Passing through town & decided to stop at Dave's for a are lunch. I had #4, slider (medium) with fries & my husband had #1, two fingers (hot) & fries. Personally, I don't like mayo so I asked for the sauce & kale slaw on the side; I added the slaw & skipped the sauce. It was wonderful & I would get it again. The fries were yummy, cooked to the perfect crispiness. The dry-rub on the chicken was delicious; we couldn't figure out the all of the spices, but we had fun trying. There was a little line to order, but the staff was efficient so it moved fast. Once our order was taken we received our food promptly. The dining room was extremely clean. Beautiful ambiance! Very nice service although when I went it was an incredible wait. The reason why it's a 3 star is because I got their hot bites...and it's just spice no flavor at all. The sauce definitely carries the spicy bites 100 %. I tried my mom's regular chicken bites and it was good it had flavor. I am not going to lie! I was skeptical at first and I was heartbroken when Burgerfi disappeared. Then, my husband said, "Let's try Dave's chicken." And, I said,"why not?" Bc Dave's hot chicken had taken over the burgerfi location. We love us some spicy chicken!!! So, he went and got a take out with a slider with spice level reaper to calm the heat down and two extra spicy thinking we are eating extra spicy like pros without even sweating and getting a reaper just for a conversation piece. Then, he told me that he had to sign a waiver! Still laughing haha waiver?!! How bad could it be? And, it hit us and hit us hard!!!! It was so so so spicy that we could not eat it and we folded and got defeated and I attempted to peel the spiciness off so we can at least eat the chicken but the spiciness soaked through!! The creamy sauce that they serve their chicken with an adult version of chic fil et honey Barbeque sauce and it was so so good!!!! I had heard great things about this place. I took my 87 yo father there for lunch. The place was fairly empty and we decided to get a 10-piece Dave's Bites, with just a rub... a very basic order to go. I went to the restroom and when I returned our order was already finished and at the table I had my father sit down at. At first I was impressed and then we decided to sit and eat some of the meal before we took it home to the rest of the family. To say I was disappointed is an UNDERSTATEMENT! The chicken was warm, but I am sure was made earlier in the day and sitting under a heat lamp. The fries were cold and hard. The only thing good was the sauce; which they gave us a ton when they realized we were going to stay. We ate two bites of the chicken and threw it out. If you think it is all right to serve day old chicken and cold fries to people who get a take out and this is the best you can do, you should get a new crew. I liked their fries but it's hard to mess up fries unless you are McDonald's. The pickles was the best part! If you like eating jars of mayo then the Dave sauce is also... great for you. it's that, ketchup or honey... no ranch or barbecue sauce. I went on the first Friday they were open. I had no problem waiting an hour. I got the two slider combo. I ordered one slider as extra hot and the other slider I ordered the reaper, which I had to sign a waiver for. The service was great and there wasn't a long wait for my to go order considering how busy they were. The fries were great. They were crispy and seasoned. The extra hot slider was amazing. Great creeping heat level. The slaw on the slider does a good job of cooling your mouth down. The Reaper was also amazing. They were not joking around about this one. It still had a great flavor as it was trying to to kill me. This place is great. This was our 1st time eating at a Dave's Hot Chicken. The decor is unique with it's graffiti style. There were bar stools for seating along the windows and table seating with 2 tops, 4 tops, and a very large table that could be used for large groups or communal dining as needed. You order at the counter. We were dining in so they gave us a beeper. I liked being able to get a table in the mean time. While I was with another adult this was always a welcome feature when my kids were younger. I ordered a 10 piece Chicken bites extra hot with fries and a frozen orange Fanta. The heat level was great for me. My hubby would say if it's hot enough to make your nose run that's too hot but for me it was where I enjoy it. There is another level hotter. The standard sauce complemented it well. Almost reminds me of a zaxby sauce. It also came with the option of a honey packet. I tried both and kept switching between them enjoying them equally. I'm not a fan of seasoned fries but these weren't too over the top so think lightly seasoned. They were good dipped in their standard sauce. I loved the frozen orange fanta. It has that tiny ice texture and not the overly smooth type that melts really fast like alot of frozen cokes do. My other diner had the 2 sliders with fries and a frozen strawberry lemonade.The slider had a slaw on it that wasn't overpowering. The diner chose a medium heat which was I liked and think most people who want a little spice would enjoy. Each tender was about 1/4-1/3 of a whole chicken breast so don't be confused at options for 1 or 2. It's a decent portion. All of our chicken was hot and tender. I will say think of this place as fast casual more like McCallisters not fast food like McDonald's or chic fil a. The food is brought to your table. Twice we had employees ask if we needed anything and there was constant table cleaning as guests left. I point this out because when paying it does start with a tip option. The macaroni and cheese was kind of gross. there is like no effort. The white bread showed no effort. The sauce was nasty and tasteless. the chicken was tender and good but the dry powder seasoning was kind of gross. we both had a bottle drink. I had water. my partner had a Coke or something. I was pretty disappointed in the meal and felt like as little effort that could have been made to make food for people was made there. there was literally nothing unique or special about the place. later I went on to our bank account to check something and I noticed what we paid. I was surprised to see that we paid almost $40 for that food. I guess I wasn't looking at the prices cuz I wouldn't expect that kind of bronson. in contrast, last night for dinner we went to, I'm pretty sure a four-star restaurant in Trenton called Green's Barn prime and had very delicious entrees and appetizers and our meal was under $30. there's something really wrong with that. I don't think this place should stay in business or at least not charge those prices. it was really gross. but if you have no taste buds and you like cheap, easy food and you're not really hard to please then. I guess that's the place for you, especially if you have no concept of what good food is.
