I am a big fan of Nashville style chicken. I have tried a fair amount of food spots that offer Nashville style chicken unfortunately I have not tried the popular Dave's Hot Chicken until recently. I arrived on a Sunday afternoon for a late lunch. Dave's Hot Chicken is located in the nice Village Oaks Plaza off Cottle Road in South San Jose. Plenty of parking is accessible in the large parking lot all around. The restaurant has a vibrant modern decor with bright fun graffiti plastered all around the walls. It is spacious with plenty of tables inside for dining. I wanted to try a bit of everything so I ordered Dave's meal #3 which consisted of 1 tender, 1 slider, 1 slice of bread, pickles, and a side of Dave's sauce. I selected mild heat level. Everything was delicious. The tender was moist and flavorful. The slider was scrumptious with every bite. Fries were crispy and salted just right. Dave's sauce worked perfectly with everything. Overall I enjoyed my experience at Dave's Hot Chicken. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere was family friendly and welcoming. Opening until late night hours is convenient. Been a huge fan of Dave's Hot Chicken for a few years. My first time was at the Union City location and instantly fell in love with it. The sandwich was juicy, seasoned well, and had a great crunch. Since we moved to South San Jose, we found this location. My first time trying this location was after the company was bought out. At the time it still tasted fine. Tonight, the sandwiches were pretty flavorless and appeared different from what I am used to (the chicken was not as red as what I am normally given). I almost considered throwing the sandwich away, but felt bad about throwing away food. I assume this was a one-off experience, so I'll give this location another chance at some point and will change my score as needed. The customer service was great as always. It replaced the Blaze Pizza, and it has lots of personality with its vivid wall murals, spacious indoor/outdoor seating. Finally, I had the much hyped Dave's Hot Chicken and the hype is not real. Full disclosure, I ordered this off of Door Dash. I got the 2 Tenders at medium heat with fries. Medium heat was not hot at all, but had good spice. I thought that heat level was perfect. The flavor was simply just ok. I have had much better tasting chicken at other hot chicken spots. The tenders were huge, so I will give them a star on that. The French fries were tasty. Dave's sauce was also lacking in flavor as well. I will definitely give Dave's Hot Chicken another try in the future, probably when I get a chance to heat in the restaurant.
