I'm going give them 3 stars because I don't want to bad mouth a small business in my town! I went in to have my exhaust looked at and went on Thursday around 930am and a lady at the counter said both lifts are being used, give me your phone number and make of your car and I will call you soon when lift is available! Well it's been a month now and she still hasn't called! What a terrible way to do business and they just lost me as a customer or any referrals! Maybe I wasn't going to bring them big bucks with my exhaust weld but they could've had a customer for life with 3 vehicles in my family! This is the first time I went to Frieze Automotive. My truck is 12 years old and has never needed any type of mechanical work except for the normal wear and tear issues (plugs, belts, battery, etc). I was not sure what the problem was, but my truck's engine was running very poorly and I was concerned it might be a cracked or warped head. For $42.00, Gregg performed a diagnotistic and determined the issue was an idle air control valve, the O2 sensors and the truck needed new plugs. There were some issues with the truck losing coolant and Gregg was able to determine my radiator cap was failing to hold adequate pressure. Needless to say these are relatively inexpensive issues and I had Gregg repair them along with a radiator flush and top and bottom hose replacements. The radiator has never been flushed and the hoses were from the factory. He was able to get to my truck quickly and it appears to be running very smoothly. The only issue is that my check enging light came on later in the day. The OBD II reader indicated that the 3rd cylinder is misfiring. I have contacted Gregg about the issue and I am confident Gregg will be able to resolve the problem. I will update this review after Gregg has addressed this issue. I gave him four stars for this review. It would have been five if the check engine light had not come on. Stay tuned for the update. UPDATE: I brought my truck back in and Gregg looked at it. He made a few adjustments and my check enging light was fixed at no additional charge. I have not had any further issues. Gregg did a fantastic job and i recommend him highly. Jeff read more

I've gotta say I'm thrilled to have found this place with this mechanic. Gregg Freize was so reasonable, FAST, and honest with me. I got quoted from dealer $650 total, same repairs with Freize was $240. So blessed to have found a great reliable, honest repairman so close to home. He was kind enough to get me a ride to and from home during repairs. He also was honest enough to tell me that one of the services the dealer recommended may not be needed. He checked and determined I did need it but told me I could hold off on it if I wanted, but I went ahead anyhow. He is no pressure to sell at all. Have taken both our cars to Frieze. On my Infiniti we had gotten a REALLY expensive estimate from another place for a potential issue. I went to Greg based on yelp reviews. He fixed all the issues and determined the expensive issue really was a much less expensive fix. Car is running smoothly now. Hubby's Jeep left me stranded a few days ago. Had it towed to Greg, he pinpointed the issue which was what we thought it was and got it all taken care of and worked hard so I could turn in the rental I was driving. I did have to take it back the next day because the radiator cap wasn't on tight so it leaked fluid but the team checked all the seals and put a new radiator cap on. read more

In a last ditch effort to save my AC on my Mercedes Benz, we tried this special product for which Greg installs. It is warrantied for one year. When it failed nearly at the end of the 1 year warranty, Greg took care of calling the company, getting me another kit, and put it in for free. Greg is very honest, and wants you to feel good about the work he performs. If I didn't live in south Austin, I would bring all my vehicles to him for service. I think very highly of him. read more

Severely disappointing service. I was recommended by a shop that completes minor maintenance, but for heavy repairs they suggested Frieze. I made an appointment to drop off first thing in the morning at 8 am. I called at 2:30 pm to find out status and they had not even pulled the car into he shop. The excuse was that they were short handed. However, if they knew that they were short handed why did they not tell me when I dropped off the car or preferably the previous day? Time is valuable and I had me and an employee picking me up and returning me to get my vehicle. Wasted time. They ended up only determining two issues out of 10 issues that I listed. 1) side mirrors motors broke and could not adjust; 2) cruise control did not work. For the side mirrors: honestly, I took my vehicle to another honest shop and they fixed the motors in my side mirrors where Frieze was going to replace the entire housing and make me pay over $1,000 for both mirrors plus services. Dishonest or lazy. They said you had to replace the entire housing of each side mirror. Obviously, not true. I saved $800. For the cruise control, I decided to give them one issue to resolve and give them another chance. Here is what happened. Before I left the shop (still in an upset state since basically nothing was completed), they said a part needed to be ordered. I said, OK, before I leave is there anything you need like payment to get this cruise control part ordered. The answer was, "no". I left happy that there would be one item resolved next week. She said, call on Monday since she would not schedule an appointment that day for the following week. Seems rather unorganized. Unfortunately, I have businesses to run myself. I was not able to call until Thursday the following week. I figured the part would be in and we could schedule an appointment. However, the saga continues. The part was NOT ordered and blamed me for not calling and scheduling an appointment. How is the appointment going to make the part show up? I ended up taking my vehicle elsewhere and got everything resolved, except the cruise control. They lost a lot of revenue since I had many things on my vehicle to repair and was looking for a trustworthy mechanic for our 5 family vehicles. read more

Gregg Frieze is the most honest and fair mechanic I have dealt with in a very long time (and I am 60+ years old so that has been a while). My brother recommended him after Frieze did some work on his 72 Corvette. He did a great repair job on my 1969 Dodge Charger and I know he lost money on the job because the first rebuilt parts he obtained were defective and he had to take those off, send them back and get parts again. Unauthorized repairs were made on my truck. When I went to pick up my vehicle, I was shocked and displeased that repairs were made even after the mechanic said that unauthorized repairs would be halted. While the mechanic did lower the price of the repair, I still paid $119.32 more than it would have cost me to repair the problem on my own. If I had not tried to bargain, I would have had to paid an additional $145.68 ($265 altogether). I have written the BBB about this issue. I took my wife car there for an oil leak. Dealer told me $500 for replacing a spool valve. They found a bulletin for the timing chain causing oil leak . They were diligent in finding the problem but car was over heating the next week. I call to ask if they had drained any of the antifreeze to fix the car. They never returned my call. If the wife hadn't notice the gauge ,it could have cost me a motor. read more

Let me start by saying that I have had horrible luck with mechanics over the past 27 years that I've been driving, and as a result, have a pretty cynical attitude against shops. I do 99% of my own diagnosis and work, unless it is a big repair that I just don't have time for, and this usually results in huge frustrations with whomever I have do the work... Two days before my wife was supposed to leave the state for a family emergency, which also happened to be a very busy week for me with work, her car started exhibiting intermittent issues that rendered it undriveable. No codes were set and I just did not have time to spend testing and diagnosing. After trying the go-to easy things, I was on a rainy test drive the morning she was supposed to leave, and the stress level began to rise... I pulled up to the light on Municipal Dr and remembered a shop that a friend recommended a while back... on impulse I drove it to the shop, flustered and desperate. There were a lot of cars parked inside and out; it was obvious they were busy so I almost didn't go in. After discussing it with my wife on the phone, I went in and talked to the owner... I was very impressed with the way he thought through the possibilities and I agreed with his thought process. Although he was busy, he agreed to diagnose it first and give me a call just in case it was something I could fix quickly myself to keep my wife's schedule as close as possible. I left it with him so that I could move on to other headaches for the day. We decided that evening at about 5:00 to go buy a car so my wife could just leave the next morning, and I would worry about her Scion while she's away. While we were out, Greg called to tell me that he had already found the problem; the MAF sensor. I'll admit that I was skeptical, as usually MAF sensors throw specific codes and I had cleaned it the day before, but I took his work for it and picked up the part. The next morning I arrived before they even opened, installed it in the parking lot and the car was fixed. He didn't pad the time, try to throw other costs or repair needs that he "found" like other shops, or turn it into something big for his benefit. I paid a very reasonable cost for a precise diagnosis, and my wife was on her way, with only a day lost! For the first time in a long, long time, I have found a shop that I will use again. On 12/26/09 my car was towed to Frieze Automotive for no power in the car. I advise Gregg Frieze, Owner, that the crankshaft sensor had been replaced on 12/25. Gregg advised me that a TIMING BELT was the issue which caused my car to have no power. My car was there from 12/26-12/31. Gregg would not return my phone calls for the first two days that my car was there, stating that he was 'short staffed'. After several calls to him, he advised me at 930P on 12/31 that my car was finally ready. He had it for 5 days yet he told me that it only took 1/2 a day to fix. I picked my car up and immediately knew that it was not fixed at 100%, it was shaking/vibrating while in PARK as well as DRIVE, this was not happening before I took it into Frieze Automotive. I wanted to take it back that night, however it was late - New Years Eve. I drove it for a week before calling Greg on 1/7/2010 to advise him that my car was still not working properly. He then asked me to bring it back to him so he may look at it. I dropped my car off on 1/28 and was advised the same day of the drop off that a part was bolted incorrectly and this was the cause of my car 'shaking'. He stated that he fixed it and that should resolve the shaking/vibrating. The vibrating was better, but not completely gone after the 2nd time taking my car to him. From April to June I noticed that my car was slightly leaking oil, getting worse as the months progress (June was EXTREMELY noticeable which prompted me to take it in). On 6/14 I took my car to a new mechanic for the work and customer service with Frieze Automotive was not exceptional and I lacked trust in his work. The new mechanic (NM) finds that there is an 'oil leak from under the timing cover area possibly a cam or crank seal'. I advise NM that I recently had my timing belt replaced in January via Frieze Automotive. NM thought the service would still be under warranty. The same day I called and informed Gregg of this issue. He advised me to bring my car in again, for a 3rd time. I reluctantly took it in on 6/15.. He had my car for a couple of days, gave me a loaner car (Cougar) which did not have an AC (this was an issue for I was pregnant at the time and TX gets really hot) and the loaner actually broke down while I had it. Gregg advised me that the oil leak was coming from the oil filter. He stated that the oil changed that I had done in April was the cause for the leak, he stated that he found that they put too much oil in the car. Gregg Frieze writes a handwritten statement "WE REMOVED ALL COVERS & INSPECTED ALL SEALS. ALL SEALS ARE INTACT AND DRY. FOUND OIL LEVEL WELL OVER FULL WE DRAINED OUT ALL OIL & REFILLED TO FULL MARK ON DIPSTICK. REC TO OWNER TO DRIVE CAR AND REINSPECT FOR LEAKS IF REACCUR." I disagreed with him, however I had no proof to disprove what he was telling me. He advised me that they fixed the issue and I should not have any more oil leaks. I come home and notice a large oil stain on my driveway, less than an hour after having my car home. I immediately called him and he totally blew me off, became irritated that I was contacting him again after he had "told me it has been fixed and that it was not his fault." I was furious! I took my car to NM on 6/18 to get a 2nd opinion. His findings were very disturbing. Per the new mechanic advised me that the bolt within the timing belt compartment had worn through the timing belt casing and that this was the cause of my oil leak. This happened due to the bolt being unsecurely fastened. The timing belt was saturated with oil and was dangerous to drive as is. I was informed that I would need to replace the timing belt again, it was less than 6-mths old. Please keep in mind I was 7mths pregnant at this point, driving around with a faulty/unsafe timing belt which could have broken at anytime. Thank goodness I did not get into a dangerous situation on the road with the car breaking down. The same day, 6/18, I called Gregg at Frieze Automotive and advised him of the new mechanic's findings. He refused to accept this information and refused to help me correct his error, my car was/is still under warranty. I had no choice but to pay to have my car fixed since Frieze Automotive would not help me. As well as having to pay for the timing belt again I was also out of pocket for a rental car. The purpose of this complaint is to notify the public that he is an unjust, unfair and deceitful mechanic/business man. He had so many opportunities to make this right and failed to do so. He put my unborn child, my 7-year old son and me in danger. Frieze Automotive has poor workmanship and an unwillingness to honor a warranty which caused me to have to replace the timing belt for a second time in less than 6-mths. read more
