I worried going here would be the worst part of my day... but it ended up being the best part! I came here after a minor accident that damaged one of my rims, not knowing what was wrong with the tire. The guys I worked with (Edgar and John) pulled my car in, looked at the tire to see the problem and noticed my engine mount was also broken. They actually put a bolt in to hold the engine in place (it was missing a bolt), put the spare tire on for me, gave me directions to a place that had the rim I needed in stock and even offered me some lunch (they were making a lunch run) and didn't charge me for anything. Hands-down the BEST auto repair place I have ever been... We will definitely be coming here for all our car repair issues in the future. I recently took my vehicle to Dave's Automotive and made my selection to have repair work completed based upon reviews. The problem was what we suspected, the compressor was out and needed to be replaced. I received a call with a quote stating that it would be over $1900 to replace the a/c compressor, condenser, and expansion valve. I asked why 3 parts need to be replaced when it was just one part failing and received an explanation that if the compressor failed then the other parts would most likely fail within 6 months. I asked them how much the part was going to cost because we had already been researching parts to fix it ourselves and was told the kit costs $770. We found the same parts online for $200-$300. I understand the labor involved in this repair, but I don't understand why I was told there wasn't a cheaper kit to be found. I then called Nissan to ask what their standard repair was for compressor failure and was told they just replace the compressor. I'm disappointed because I feel as though I was overcharged for parts and labor that I didn't need. The positive here is the level of service. They were very communicative and repaired my vehicle in a speedy manner which I greatly appreciate. I didn't have time to shop around for repair shop or I would have. read more

We recently had the opportunity of utilizing the services of the Pflugerville store on June 13. I only wish I could say that the experience was favorable. That being said, I will provide some background on the issue. On Sunday, June 12, my son was driving his car with a classmate to Austin. On approaching the Austin area the vehicle's the low voltage light started to flicker. When I talked with him that evening he asked what he should do. I told him that most likely a portion of the diode trio in the rectifier of the alternator failed. I recommend he ask our friend there to help locate a local shop that could swap out the alternator and get him on the road again. On the advice of our friend my son dropped the car off at Dave's first thing Monday morning. My son called me mid-morning at school and told me that the car needed a new alternator and a new battery. And the bill would be close to $900. As my son needed to focus on school and did not need to be screwing with a car I called the shop. The gentleman I was directed to was Ed. Ed notified me that they were indeed working on the car. It was on the charger and the car required not only an alternator but also a new battery. Really? How did he know it needed a new battery? Well, the car had been on the charger for a few hours and it was still charging. Really? And the battery is old so Ed recommends the battery should be replaced. Really? I asked him if the cars charging system had been checked for output. Ed indicated this could not be done until the battery was replaced. Really? So, the alternator had yet to be checked and I was being dinged for a new battery. Hmmm. I indicated to Ed that the car started fine the previous evening in Pflugerville. The car started fine that morning. While the battery voltage may be low it is adequate to start the car and drive it to the shop. I asked Ed if he had started the car and checked charging voltage. He said no. I advised Ed to attempt to start the car and check charging voltage. If start voltage was inadequate to crank the engine, he could take any flavor of 12 volt battery and jump the vehicle battery. This would enable the technician to start the car and excite the alternator adequately to determine charging voltage. Ed said he would check with his tech and get back to me. Ed called me back about 10 minutes later and advised me that the alternator was not charging to full capacity. OK, since we have the charging system problem sorted I asked Ed to replace the alternator and we would address the battery issue upon the vehicle return back home. Ed was still heavily advising the purchase of a new special battery. I advised Ed that I was willing to deal with the battery on my own. Just replace the alternator please. When the vehicle work was complete I asked Ed if he could have my son picked up at the UT campus since he had no wheels in Austin. Ed indicated that a shuttle that far would not be possible. So much for the shuttle service. A $355 AL0738X alternator with a two year warranty. Hmmm. This is an interesting bit of markup. Only 60+ % over full retail. Not only is the alternator a $220 normal retail with lifetime warranty but the warranty on the alternator itself has been reduced to two years by Dave's shop installing it. I understand marking parts up to cover the expense of having to source them. I just don't understand the 61% markup over retail. This is another item that baffles me. $33.68 of shop supplies. Interesting in that my son had cleaned and re-cleaned the entire engine compartment the week prior. I assume it's a standard ratio line charge. Even so, that charge watered my eyes. I really didn't appreciate Ed blowing smoke up my ass. In addition, I also question their business ethos. Either play the long game or the short game. It's their choice. They might also qualify what "shuttle service" means on their web site. I don't mind paying a fair price. IMHO I do resent being gouged. Note: I have reached out to discuss this with the owners of Dave's via personal letter and have received no response. read more

Didn't have an appt but guys were real up front saying it would be a wait and that they would try to squeeze me in but if an appt came in they would be put first. Totally understood and wasn't a big deal. Waiting room was clean, the front office guys were real nice, and there wasn't any BS saying, "Well this or that needs to be replaced." Dave's Ultimate RIP-OFF ARTIST. Run run run away from this place as fast as you can. LIARS, CHEATS, and THIEF'S. I sent my wife their to get her brake pads replaced because I wanted to be lazy and I didn't feel like doing it myself. They quoted her $995.53 to replace basically the entire brake system sans master cylinder. Here are some of their quoted prices for parts. R. Caliper $149.65, L. Caliper $136.35, 2 rotors $199.24, Brake pads $137.50, Brake system flush $67.50 + $33.70 for brake fluid. The quote also includes parts cleaners x3 @ $4.86 = $14.58. Oh but they offered her a new customer discount of $100.00. HILARIOUS. None of these prices include the labor charge of $315.12. She called me, I told to just come home and they actually asked her to sign some waiver that her car was unsafe to drive, SHE REFUSED. I went to the auto parts store got new premium pads for $65.00 and replaced the worn ones in about 45 minutes. The rotors have normal wear and tear, I wouldn't put my wife on the road with inadequate brakes, but even if they needed to be turned or replaced the pair would cost under $100. Do not ever do business with these jack-holes!!!!! THE WORST. Dave's is everything you ever hear about mechanics that take advantage of women. read more

Found these guys on yelp saw there reviews and though I'd give them a try. Called them yesterday to see if I could just have them look at car. I'm a single guy with 1 vehicle that can't afford to leave car for long periods of time. My plan was have them diagnose car and plan another weekend to have it fixed cause i thought if it took more than 1 day I'd have to rent a car. I explained all this to them. They said they had full schedule on Saturday but to bring it anyway and they'd squeeze it in to diagnose and if it had to stay over weekend they had a loaner car I could use. I dropped of about 745 am they called me about 1030 with diagnosis and car was repaired by 2pm. They even came and picked me up from house to take me back to shop. I Stopped in without an appointment to have a diagnostic inspection. I went there because my husband had a positive experience there and thought it would be the same. The guy barely listened to my problem and didn't ask follow up questions to figure out what kind of inspection I needed. He told me that it would be an hour to inspect it at 100 dollars! Also, I would have to make an appointment for the next day. I felt like a "woman at a repair shop". I went to the Meineke down the street and received courteous service for a fair price. First of all let me say Thank you Dave's Ultimate Automotive!! I was shopping around for a place that with change my oil if I provided my own supplies (oil and oil filter). I wasn't doing this because I'm cheap, I just happen to use an oil for my car that not a lot of shops carry. I spent all day Saturday calling around asking how much shops charge for an oil change if the customer supplies the parts. Boy oh boy was it a task. I called around to multiple Jiffy Lubes, Wal-Mart Express Lubes, Kwik Kar, Mister Clean, and various other places to see that they would say; I was surprised at what I was told. The prices ranged from $26 to $70, yes yes $70 for an oil change with ME supplying everything. I honestly laughed in the face of the Jiffy Lube guy when he said they would charge me $70. So this morning I got on Yelp to see what my fellow Yelppers had to say. That's when I can across the reviews for Dave's Ultimate Automotive (and I'm glad I did). I called and asked the same question I asked the other shops and I was prepared for the worst. What Scott had to say actually surprised me. Only $12 to change my oil, I was in shock. I hustled and got down there as soon as I could. The guy Nathan that first helped me was super friendly. The inside of the shop is nice as well. There's a big flat screen TV on the wall, FREE wi-fi, water, and coffee to sip on while you wait. It's not regular old brewed coffee ladies and gentleman, they have a Keurig! So all and all I have to say I had a very good experience. They got me in and out the door in about 45 minutes without an appointment, so I was pleased. They also talked to me about my options, providing an assessment without charging me a fee. They also did a quick oil change at a great price. Dave's automotive has always kept my vehicles, including a 16 year old GMC Yukon Denali, running at a reasonable price. Working on just what it needed and no more. The few times that they found additional items, I was called and consulted. There were never big surprises, just an additional part and the time for to come in. The car has 200,000 plus miles. Dave's has been doing all the work since it had about 80,000. They always manage to get me a loaner vehicle if it's a long repair job. Very pleased. read more

We recently took our car here for repairs. They diagnosed the problem and gave us the quote. This was a Friday and the parts would not arrive until Monday. Since the car would still run, we asked if we could pick it up to drive over the weekend (we had not paid them). The gentleman I spoke with was very kind and gave us honest information about the complexity of the repair (it really was a tough repair!!). Over the weekend we decided to try and fix it ourselves to save money. We did still go back on Monday to pay the diagnostic fee and pick up the rest of the parts that they still had from taking part of the car apart. Long story short: they easily could have lied to us and said it was an impossible repair. And we could have just not come back to pay them what was owed. But we were all honest with each other, which mechanics don't always have the reputation for, and now I will only take my car to Dave's for repairs. :) glad we have a neighborhood honest mechanic. read more
