I'm always finding new spots when I travel, and this particular BBQ spot caught my interest . David Alan's BBQ in Mukwonago did not disappoint. The smoked meats were on point, juicy, flavorful, and you can tell they take their time with it. The pulled pork and sausage had that perfect smoky bite, and even the brisket in the bowl hit. The sandwiches were stacked and messy in a good way, and the sides actually showed up too, mac and cheese, coleslaw, and cornbread all solid. Had the opportunity to try their Cod fish fry. It comes with three nice sized pieces of beer batter cod and your choice of a number of different side options. We had their pig tail fries and potato pancakes. The fish was very good, not greasy, cooked perfectly. The pig tail fries were also very good. Had to have the potato pancakes recooked as the first ones were over done. The second ones were very good as was the applesauce. Rye bread is rye bread not much more to say there. Neither of us cared for their coleslaw, which is vinegar based. Overall we give it 7 out of 10. The service was handled by the bartender and she did a great job. It was smash burger wednesday so we got the cowboy burger. I thought it was pretty tasty. Nice heat to it. I didn't really enjoy the onions. I think it had two different kinds but neither won me over. I'm so happy we did the special because we got delicious onion rings. I loved the crunch and the onion didn't fall out. They had the bbq sauces at each table which I thought was convenient. We also got the bbq chicken salad which was delicious and fulfilling. I just didn't like the blue cheese. It's such an acquired taste. I would definitely get it again but without it. The cheesecake with oreo mousse was to die for. It was sooo fluffy. So sweet and decadent. We loved it. Yummm! I came on a Friday night during Lent. We got there around 5:30 and were quoted about 35 minutes. We were able to grab 2 chairs at the bar when someone left and ordered 2 Moscow mules for $14. I thought it tasted good and the price was right. About 10 minutes later they texted us that our table was ready! They had a lot of fish fry options. I personally don't like fish, but my mom ordered the cod. It came with 3 very large pieces, a choice of side, coleslaw, and bread for $20. She said it was good, but was slightly too greasy for her taste. I ordered the rib sandwich with a side of mac n cheese for $16. I loved it! The food was very good. I had the street tacos and the other party had the burnt ends sandwich. The tacos are generously filled,however, the order now is two tacos instead of the original three. It was busy when we went but when I asked for a booth they were accommodating which was nice. Everything is still good, but the ribs were inconsistent. We had 2 full racks. One was fall of the bones soft and delicious. The other was not falling off the bones and tough to chew. I had the good rack, so I left happy, but seeing that my friend didn't have an awesome time, and seeing the inconsistencies makes me dock off a star. Still an awesome joint with popping vibes. No, I don't wanna be too critical or harsh on these guys . I mean a lot of people cannot cook brisket that's just how it is. The brisket was really really dry. It was obviously smoked too long and they did not trim it good enough because they took all the fat off, which would have increased the moisture. The hot links were good though. Now to the sides . The fried green tomatoes were awesome. The collard greens were seasoned very well and also very good. The macaroni and cheese was also very good. The cornbread was also very good. If I had other complaints, I'm in a hotel and they did not send utensils with the order ??? They also did not send barbecue sauce of any type. Maybe it's a one time thing . The presentation was beautiful, the flavor of the meats was just not there for us. We had the brisket nachos. We need the BBQ sauces to make them tasty. Now the bbq sauces were amazing and they had lots to choose from so that was a huge plus. And we had the smoky bbq chicken salad. Again it had all the right things. The chicken just had no flavor. We just moved to Mukwonago and had to try David Alan Alan's! My husband had the meat platter with brisket and pulled pork and couldn't stop eating the yummy pork. I liked his brisket. Their menu is every changing, with just some amazing and super original items always coming onto the menu. They're innovative with their additions, both in food and drinks. Any smoked meat you like, they probably have. Their burnt ends are just amazing. Tons of delicious appetizers, so many entrees, and wild different options to try like smokehouse ramen or a meatloaf pizza. Mukwonago is a small town, and this is definitely one of the good spots to check out if you're coming thru the area. And there's a chocolate bacon martini that's a must when we pop in too, don't forget to try that! The service is always friendly, never slow even when it's busy in there. Lots of TVs to watch sports, big sports bar/restaurant. The place is clean, and has lots of seating considering the small area they have to work with. My friend and I eat here once a month. The food is never consistent. I recently ordered the Southern Philly Sandwich and was given a partially filled sandwich which was served on a dry sub bun. There was no cheese on it and barely any toppings. This is a $16.99 dollar sandwich and was so disappointing. I called the manager and told him how bad it was. He offered to send me a gift card. I thought that was very nice until I received the $10.00 gift card. Thank you for sending me a gift card, however this does not even cover the cost of my sandwich. Both the ribs and brisket were very tender with little fatty piece like other places give. My favorite sauce was the bacon bourbon since it was a god blend of sweet and savory. They had all kinds from sweet to spicy and a Carolina style also. For drinks I had the smoked old fashioned and berry mule. The berry mule was delicious and the added cinnamon stick gave it a good spice to go with the ginger beer. It's about time I give David Alan Alan's a review. To begin with, I have eaten here at least 20 times. so when I give this review, this is a very thorough and comprehensive review. To start, I'm gonna say this is more of a bar/restaurant, than any restaurant. They pride themselves on having an excellent selection of beer. I have a soft spot for Todd the Axeman, and they have it ice cold and fresh as the day is long. I have eaten everything from the burgers to the ribs. My go to- I've had the nachos several times, with an array of different barbecued meats. Choose any meat, whatever you're in the mood. I have to say the nachos are a definite sleeper bargain. You can easily just eat that and be happy. The sauce selection is a good variety for everyone's taste. I prefer the Smoked Jalapeño. Again, as a customer for years, I have to say, the staff is very friendly, and the food/beer quality is dependable. The only thing I gripe about is the cleanlilness has seemed to fall off. The entrance door is dirty looking, not to mention the closer doesn't work on the main door. That's your first thing you see, when you walk in. A group of 5 friends went for lunch on Sunday afternoon. The restaurant seemed quite busy, but we were seated right away. Our very friendly waitress brought us water and took our drink orders. I ordered a raspberry spiked tea, and the other drinks ordered were bloody Mary's and the smoked old fashion. My drink was ok, but I wish I had tasted more of the raspberry instead of all tea. Loved the smoked old fashion that my friend let me try. The glass had smoke filled in the glass with a lid, so when you took a sip through the straw, you were smelling the smoke while enjoying the delicious old fashion. One friend asked for her bloody Mary to be on the spicier side and when the waitress brought it over asked her if it was spicy enough or if it needed more. Per my friend, it was perfect. I ordered the fried pickles with a side of ranch dressing to share and a classic cheeseburger. The options for cooking the burger were pink or no pink, and I opted for the no pink. The pickles were abundant, crispy, and delicious!! My cheeseburger was done to perfection. The butger came with Cole slaw that was so tasty and a side of choice. I chose the macaroni and cheese, which was so creamy and delicious. Other orders at our table were the loaded nachos, which were piled high with flavor, Cuban rolls, and quesadillas. Everyone was happy and full. They have a huge selection of beers on tap and a shot menu. Three of us had a shot. One Dirty Girls Scout that tasted like a mint cookie, a lemon drop which made your mouth pucker and I had the tootsie roll and you guessed it, tasted just like the candy. I found myself off work on a Monday which has not happened in a long time except for vacation time so I decided to spend some time in Mukwonago and get a cocktail some lunch and hit up the elegant farmer for at least an apple pie. The place is in a strip mall with plenty of parking. With a proper full name of the restaurant on the restaurant I was expecting something upscale or fancy but it was standard wood and tin like most other bbq restaurants with a bar, booths and tables. The menu is interesting with standard bbq items and and their bbq take on other items like the smoked meat loaf sandwich or the rib sandwich which I was torn between, I really wanted a slab of ribs but you can't get them until after 4pm. I ordered the Hunch punch margarita as my cocktail as I looked over the menu and i it came in a mason jar and it was pretty good. My server was Krissy and I asked her what she like better, the smoked meat loaf dinner or the rib sandwich and she instantly said that she likes the rib sandwich so that's what I ordered with Mac and cheese as my side. The rib sandwich looked delicious and the Mac and cheese also looked delicious but the coleslaw looked pretty average. The Mac and cheese was ok with the 6 cheese blend but I expected a bolder/richer cheese flavor and the pasta was cooked to mush which was too bad. The rib sandwich was pretty good with rib meat chunks in KC bbq sauce, smoked Gouda cheese, red onions, dill pickles on a toasted bun. If you ever wanted to know what a Mc Rib sandwich would be like if a real bbq restaurant made one than you should try one because it hit the spot. Mondays special is .75 cent jumbo drummys sold in a minimum of 4 so I had to try them so I got 4 to go for dinner. WOW those are jumbo drummys which were a meal in them self and still somewhat moist because they were lightly smoked and deep fried to finish them off and meaty so Monday is the day to go and stop by. Overall like many of my bbq experiences the meats are the stars and the sides can be a little lacking but all in all I enjoyed my lunch. read more
