Walked in with my fiance to look for wedding bands. Lady we spoke with did not seem to want to help. We asked her questions and she gave us half answers at most. For example we asked her about inlays for rings and what kind she had and she stated they have "a lot" when we tried to clarify by asking what kind she just said " 22 kinds" and told us to look online. Basically brushed us off. I asked about protection plans for rings and she acted like it was something that didn't exist anywhere and repeated my question like I was stupid for even asking. We walked right out and tossed the business card. Very poor customer service. read more

I needed a watch battery for the watch my husband gave me on our wedding day 18 years ago. Made some slight about the brand being Kenneth Cole. I should have just left with that snobbery coming from them. Came here because my local place is gone and I go to Encinitas weekly. I requested to wait for them to do it, but they said they could not do it right then and that it would be **several hours**. So I left, and I got promptly on the freeway. And, about a minute into driving, a text came through saying they were done. Just how freaking lame. If they'd have said 10 minutes, I'd have walked around and come back. But they flat out misrepresented the estimated time it would take and lied about their inability to do it at the time. And I couldn't make it back the following week because I got sick. I finally had the opportunity to get back to Encinitas last week. LAST WEEK. But if they'd have been strait about the time, I could have left there with my wedding watch and had it this whole time. But they wanted to be jerky about doing it right away and then they did it right away anyway. read more

Poor quality of products, I understand jewellery is marked up 100% or so, but their prices were significantly higher than most shops. He spent time with me to determine what my goal was and then he found the very best stone that I could get for my budget. Along the way he educated me on cut, clarity, and grading in general. Perhaps most importantly, David was extremely helpful in pulling off giving the gift as a total surprise. He orchestrated getting my wife to bring in her old ring for a cleaning, then he fabricated a story that allowed me to leave the ring at the store while he transferred the new stone to her setting. It was fantastic for my wife to open her present on Christmas morning and see that she had a new and much more beautiful stone in her old ring - and best of all, it was a total surprise. Dropped off a Nixon watch that had a dead battery at David Bernatz Jewlers on the border of Encinitas in the Target shopping center. They told me it would be 24 hours and $15 before tax. I don't know how much it usually costs but I did it and they did it and it came back fine. It has a 1 year warranty. They weren't nice or anything, they were like car salesman but at least my watch works! read more

I just picked up my redesigned ring and all I can say is David is an ARTIST. He handed to me very humble and said it turned out "Nice". I looked at him and said--no it didn't. It came out STUNNING! Terrible job on my ring for a resize and mean women working there. They sized it incorrectly, left a mark in the middle where they tried to put it back together and left me wondering if my stones were the same ones I brought in there originally. The lady screeched at me when I mentioned the size not fitting and told me it was my fault that the ring was an incorrect size. David just starred at us and did not intervene to make sure the job was done accordingly or see what was going on. He almost looked afraid of the woman. Terrible service. Terrible job. I hope my stones are still real after all that mess. Going to take it somewhere else to verify as I'm not sure anymore and have no trust in this place. read more

David is a genius designer, but when he is not there the staff is rudely obnoxious. I have bought many things there, but not recently. I went in there and only one blond older lady was friendly.
