David and his team removed and replaced two broken areas in our front yard. The driveway had been cracked and caved in from a dropped debris box. The walk to the side yard had been lifted up and tilted by a tree. They did better than the original - placed rebar to reinforce both areas where the builder neglected to use. His team, including his son Josh were efficient, courteous and did an impeccable job matching the original surface for a very reasonable price. I had asked for multiple bids for concrete for my backyard and front yard project. I needed about 400sq ft of concrete poured, baserock compacted and rebar. After receiving the bids, I found David's experience and bid fair.This is a family business who knows concrete. You have a professional contractor with over 50 years of experience (licensed and bonded) not a fly by night cowboy. David is patient in responding to questions, answering technical questions on retarders, type of concrete (50/50 6-sac mix) and the curing process. David and his team, came out and did the demolition of flagstone, dirt, bushes, and tambark on the first day. They were careful around my drip irrigation and capped any lines that needing cancelling as some bushes were removed. They also put down a 1" layer of baserock and manually compacted vs using a machine, and doweled in the rebar every 30" to tie in with my existing concrete. We had agreed upon a broom finish with a decorative 6" band around the edge along with the control joints. David accommodated and stuck to his plan. The following week when the temperature was not in the 100's, he had a truck from Folsom Ready Mix come out and they wheel barrow in the concrete Vs using a pump. They spread and leveled it out about 4" thick, and set about setting the control joints and smoothing it out. The used a retarder in the concrete and on top to slow the curing which helps form the crystals so the concrete can cure slowly, harden, and gain its strength. Concrete curing is the process of maintaining adequate moisture in concrete within a proper temperature range in order to aid cement hydration at early ages. Hydration is the chemical reaction between cement and water that results in the formation of various chemicals contributing to setting and hardening. Curing plays an important role on strength development and durability of concrete. Curing takes place immediately after concrete placing and finishing, and involves maintenance of desired moisture and temperature conditions, both at depth and near the surface, for extended periods of time. Properly cured concrete has an adequate amount of moisture for continued hydration and development of strength, volume stability, resistance to freezing and thawing, and abrasion and scaling resistance. American Concrete Institute (ACI) Committee recommends a minimum curing period corresponding to concrete attaining 70% of the specified compressive strength normally reached in 7 days . The 70% strength level can be reached sooner when concrete cures at higher temperatures or when certain cement/admixture combinations are used. Higher curing temperatures promote an early strength gain in concrete but may decrease its 28-day strength. David stated to mist the concrete over the next 48-hours when it's cooler, in the morning and late evening to keep the concrete hydrated to help the curing process. I plan to do it the first week since the weather has been hot out. All in all, I would wholeheartedly recommend David Morris concrete. The team is courteous, they do what they say they will do, they show up on time, clean up after themselves, and leave behind a quality product. The quote was honored, no last minute, price hikes, and the business is licensed and bonded. I have recommended him to my neighbor and other neighbors on Nextdoor. Our back yard had small variations in grading, not like a hill, or even a pronounced bump, but enough to have little "steps" up/down to the other level. With my elderly mother visiting , we didn't want any trip hazards , and it didn't look good. They made it to where everything is level, and it looks 100% better. I have been remiss in not giving these folks a review much sooner. They have done major walkways, embossed stairs, & a large patio for us at 2 different homes. They are polite & considerate of your needs. Additionally, they show up on time and when finished the area of work is clean. You might initially consider them to be somewhat expensive but that is NOT TRUE if you are looking for quality work that last for years without any problems. I'm not any expert to decided the right person to do the job. #1: David's attitude was nearly perfect as he had shown photos of his work. So my choice is so wise to choose David plus 2 to 3 workers were very nice as they all did totally respected my organic home garden that they did worked around it. They all really worked so hard, it just like a good old days. This usually take more than 5 guys that do their job with totally 4 of them. David will take check, this means: He pay his fair and share taxes.
