Update: Came here last night with my family for my brother's birthday. Overall great experience. The server was outstanding. She was very attentive and friendly. All the food we ordered was delicious. My sister in law thinks they got a new cook. I'm from out of town so I'm unsure. I just know the last few visits here were not great. Maybe it was my food choices. All I can say is last nights food choices were great. I really enjoyed their calamari and octopus the most. You can never go wrong with the Portuguese sausage. The octopus special was a 10/10. Very fresh. Loved how well the octopus was grilled. Perfect amount of onions, peppers, and garlic. The potatoes were well made. Amazing experience. First time at this restaurant. First noticeable thing was how clean it was. Our waiter was Chris made us feel right at home. We were told by someone to try their Portuguese calamari and although it wasn't on their list of specials, they made it especially for us. The depth of flavor was stellar. The chourico was delicious and not fatty at all. We also had the Portuguese clams casino, regular clams casino, stuffed Quohog and bang bang shrimp. All very tasty. There was a small sign stating that frozen drinks were available. I had the two best pina coladas that I have ever had. We will be back!!!! What an amazing place. We went on a Thursday evening and there was quite a crowd but no waiting. Strands of lights hung from the ceiling. This is a very clean and immaculate restaurant. Food: Always very good. This restaurant is going downhill unfortunately. Went there for takeout, waited a MINIMUM 10 minutes at the counter to be greeting. The bartender was too busy speaking with the one person sitting at the bar to assist the people waiting at the counter. Restaurant was slow and only had two people sitting down at tables. I grew up in the New Bedford area and this place is just about as good as any of the NB/Fall River staples. I've gone probably 10 times and every time I go it's fantastic. I once had a grilled octopus that was some of the best I had! I wish they had rabbit more but I only saw it twice but when I had it, it was amazing. The shrimp Mozambique was amazing, pretty sure I licked the plate. I wish Portuguese food was more well respected in the area because it's 10 times better than any of the local excuse for "italian" food which is pretty much chef boyaredee level slop. Ok, went sat at bar the guy behind the bar cracks open beer #2 for me and says "in case I'm not behind the bar when you need it - that would have been great if I hadn't just taken my first sip of beer #1 KENO screen obscured by menu so unless you go right to the terminal and remove the menu blocking the KENO win/lose screen the operator could simply tell you "Not a winner!" and pocket whatever you did in fact win! Well... I have a background in Portuguese cuisine. So... I'm pretty sure I can speak to the accuracy of the tastes and dishes. I've only been here once and I'm thinking next time we can push the rating up a bit as I'm sure there is another tasty dish or two yet undiscovered. Walked in and was greeted by a very very friendly woman. I'm guessing maybe the Owner. She actually welcomed me and then held me by my upper arm as she guided me to my table. Then.. kinda funny but weird... she told me how nice my bicep was and said that "women can still say these things and men no longer can". That's an accurate statement. (Both about how nice my bicep actually is AND the fact men could never do such things, however innocent). So. The greeting was superb! My friends arrived and we dug in. Portuguese soup. Nice. Creamy. Spicy. Would have liked to see a clear kale soup option on the menu though as that would have been my choice. Similar soups but this version was creamy and I like a clear soup. Of course I went for my "Cadillac Portagie favorite"... Pork Alentejana . Nicely cooked and marinated chucks of tender pork. Had the deep fried potatoes (cut too small and too few) but the pickled veggies, littlenecks and the olives (with the stones) were top o the line for taste. The traditional rolls. Platter style. I came around 12 on Sunday and by 1:00 this place was almost full. Park include behind restaurant and on the street. There's about 30 tables and bar area. Meal Portion good size most people I sought had leftovers. Order include Bacalhau A Gomes De Sa: Cod Fish Sautéed with olive oil, onions,garlic And potatoes. Topped with boiled eggs. This came in a casserole bowl. It was well put together. Flavor was good. the fish with tender. And I had leftovers. Seafood Avana: sautéed In white garlic sauce, muscles, shrimp, scallops, Zucchini, Summer squash over linguine. The sauce was extremely delicious. This is the kind of sauce you want bread to dip in. All the fish was cooked perfectly. We tried the Creme Brulee, in lemon rice putting. The Brulee was good, not sure home made. Rice putting wasn't my favorite was a little bit too lemony but it was still tasty. read more

The Pearl has been slowly going downhill in service since the pandemic. I have begun to see a trend where they focus on big parties more than anyone else. Over the last year I find when I leave we say the food was great but the service was awful. Today I ordered takeout and was told 40 minutes, but actually gave them an hour. When I arrived I was told a party of 30 had come in and they had not even started my order. Unfortunately I am done with this establishment. Great meal tonight at The Pearl! Was there to celebrate a birthday and was not disappointed in our choice of restaurant or meals. Got the evening's special of 2 meals from a list of choices for $35 including 2 glasses of wine! The birthday girl's Portuguese steak was so enjoyed, perfectly cooked with a side of rice and hand cut fries and my baccala a la Pearl equally delicious! We took our appetizer of linguica egg rolls home with us and split a complimentary birthday dessert of Grandma's Pudding-yum! Joe our waiter was personable, extremely efficient with a side of comedy that kept the smiles on our faces throughout the evening. Generally the customer service wasn't great. Kept retrying over and over again to enjoy but it never was. The food was mediocre at best and was undercooked. When I ordered something else it was overcooked. I waited in line on the for THREE. HOURS!! Just for them to give me a 45 minute wait along with I dislike the practice of the restaurant. AND on top of all that, they messed up my drink. The atmosphere wasn't special and honestly the riverhouse is better. Found hair in the food (the undercooked one). The few times I went I was very happy with how good the food was, and the price. The only downfall here is the customer service... it's good don't get me wrong, but both times with the place being 1/4 full it took way too long to be seen whether it was for a drink, how long it took for the food to come out, or even to ask a simple question. Luckily all the other Portuguese restaurants in the town are so inconsistent with not only the customer service, but the food also so it won't hurt this place much. read more

Spectacular decor & amazing delicious food! However we had a poor experience in the beginning with the bartender (Jill B). It took a long time to be seated, mind you the dining area was completely empty. She made us feel uncomfortable when she finally approached us to seat us. We sat for literally 10 minutes waiting to be asked what we wanted to drink until I got up from my seat & asked her if she was actually going to serve us in which she heavily sighed and rolled her eyes & said she had no servers & continue to complain about being busy & having no servers yet was standing around talking about her personal life to everyone at the bar & blatantly, ignoring us in neglecting her duty to act professional and provide somewhat decent customer service skills which she obviously lacks & could use more training. She was very inattentive and clearly flustered and easily annoyed. It's not our fault they didn't have enough staff and I believe we were very patient and understanding of situation had she just nicely informed us and apologized for the inconvenience. She could benefit from more in depth training in customer service, restaurant representation and professionalism at the very least. Thank god she found us another waitress who happened to be sweet ass a peach because otherwise I would've not returned. I hope my next experience is better. read more
