Wow! It was our first time here, and we were drawn by the positive reviews -- and they did not disappoint. The exterior is pretty unassuming, so I wasn't expecting to walk into such an awesome spot! From the super-friendly welcome from our smiling hostess, who seated us immediately, to our waitress, Carrie, who was incredibly nice and provided excellent service, everything was top-notch! I'm always on the hunt for the best club sandwich, and I can honestly say this was THE BEST club sandwich I've EVER had! It was so beautifully presented, it almost looked fake, but it was absolutely delicious. We also tried the Pick 3 appetizers and loved the fried mushrooms, southwest egg rolls, and bagel bites, and we had a burger too! Food is pretty good. I would say 4-5 stars depending on what you order. Highly recommend the spicy cheese curds (5 stars). Pretzel bites are a 4. There are tons of appetizers to choose from, which is great if you just want a drink and something small to eat. Regarding the entrees. Burgers, wings, wraps, and sandwiches dominate the menu. They do have a "plate" menu which has chicken and steak options. Nice variety, which includes a kids menu. I got the wings which are a solid 4 stars. Lots of flavors to choice from. I sampled my wife's Hamburger Steak plate and enjoyed it. Tons of beers (many regional) on the draft menu. 5 stars for their draft beer selection. OMG!!! As crazy as this sounds ...The fried okra is my absolute FAV!!!! It is cut into long slices and fried to perfection! Even if you're not a veggie person... try these with ranch. YUM! Any burger ... you simply can NOT go wrong. And although I haven't tried these hot wings yet, they seem to hit every table in there. That will definitely be my next try. It's a small place, with a lot going on, which can sometimes get a bit loud. But the staff stays friendly and professional, taking on the crowd with ease. read more

Was helping my wife install some of her stained glass in Lexington on Wednesday evening and decided to grab a bite before heading home. Not being too familiar with the area, we checked Yelp for some suggestions and saw a lot of positive reviews for the Olde Well Tavern, so headed that way. Got there about 715 to a packed house, so took that as a good sign. Had about a 20 minute wait , so grabbed a drink in the bar, and was impressed by what a large selection they had. While waiting I even found one of my bottle cap art pieces on their wall, which was a great surprise since it was my first time visiting! We finally got seated, and had to make some decisions. There were a number of great options for dinner, but in the end I went with the Tavern Burger, they offer a ton of toppings, so plan ahead before you get out on the spot, I ended up with pimento cheese, lettuce, onion, onion and cole slaw with a side of sweet potato fries. The service was extremely good and the workers were really kind. Our waiter was quick to assist us and quickly situated us. I came with a big group of 9 and was made aware of the long wait and let us know a table would be ready in 40. Exactly 40 minutes later our table was ready. So communication here is awesome. The food did take about 25 minutes to come out but considering the entire restaurant was packed that felt pretty quick. Food came out hot and delicious, and was extremely cheap! (For a burger, fries and drink, 20 boneless wings, fries and drink it came out to $34 after tax.) I can't recommend this place enough. I waited a month between visits to try to gain some additional perspective as my first visit was also what I would consider a 1 star experience. First visit-understaffed, long wait time (appx 1.5 hrs), beer took 20 mins to arrive, food was incorrect once it eventually arrived. Server paid all her attention to the table beside us and was not interested in making sure we had all we needed as we were only a three top...Manager ended up giving me a gift card to come back. Second visit-to paraphrase, it was essentially the same thing as my first visit except this time the waiter and manager became combative attempting to defend their own mistakes. I will never, ever come back here and you should seriously consider other establishments to patronize. Weird vibe if you're not a local that they know and the bathrooms are not clean. Everyone makes mistakes and there has been plenty of times I haven't been on my A game either; but the way we were treated was unacceptable. read more

My wife and I visit Olde Well Tavern most Saturday's for lunch. We enjoy sitting at the bar with the locals and also meeting new people as well. Everyone is friendly and they make you feel so welcome. Our bartender Shelia always makes sure we have what we need. The food is excellent. The menu has a great variety of options. I just wanted a Yuengling and to watch NC State v East Carolina. The staff insisted on seeing my ID which has private information on it. It has been over 50 years since I was 21 -- quite obvious. They are discriminating against seniors, trying to reduce my constitutional expectation of privacy. The manager say it's the law, but not so. All they need to sell me alcohol is evidence that I'm 21. Plenty of that. Just look at my face. She is trying to intimidate me with her lie. The AI overview says, "No, you are not required to show an ID to buy alcohol in North Carolina". Just use common sense as to my age. It's none of their business about the info on my ID. So the manager refused to sell me alcohol. I'm a retired veteran, serving 34 years. We had a reservation for 8 with family and friends. I had never been here before and didn't know what to expect. I can't believe I hadn't heard about this place before this. Tucked away in Lexington, is the Olde Well Tavern. A little out of the way but oh-so worth it. You know it's good before you even go in as the parking lot has very few empty spots. There is ample parking but this place is popular! The smells of the kitchen hit you before you get out of your car. What a wonderful, comforting aroma! This only serves to build your anticipation for what lies inside. The first thing you notice entering the Olde Well is the conversation "buzz" from all the customers. People are talking, laughing and having a good time. You are immediately out at ease walking in here. We were lead to our table right away. The place is well-lit, a nice fully stocked bar is available. They have many drinks to choose from and plenty of beer varieties. Our server got drinks promptly and quickly took our orders. A couple arrived before us and ordered appetizers of buffalo wings, fried banana peppers (yum) fried okra and cheese filled pretzels. The wings were HUGE and quite delicious. Fried banana peppers were new to be but were certainly good as were the pretzels and okra. They have a very varying menu, something for everybody. I opted for the beef cheesesteak and side winder fries. These fries are 100% unique. They are cut in an arc which gives each fry its own character with one end being thick and tapering down to a thin end. It gives the fries a contrast of texture from fluffy to crunchy on each fry. Very good. The cheesesteak comes on a standard 8 inch roll and I got mine with peppers and onions. Note: they don't have mushrooms. It was very tasty. Other dishes ordered around the table included hamburger steak, shrimp, chicken cheesesteak and grilled chicken sandwich. Everybody raved about the food. Service was excellent and timely even though the place was slammed. Our server was excellent. It was a little noisy but in a good way. Sever big televisions had on various football games. There was a lot of conversation and good times throughout the restaurant. Prices are reasonable and the food quality is excellent. I can't wait for my next visit here. There are numerous food items demanding to be sampled. I'm just the guy to do it. This is a gem in Lexington. You should be a part of it. read more

Had the tavern burger with smoked Gouda with all the fixings . It made my top 3 burger I have ever had. I personally hate tomatoes but these one were great and to me that says something . I'm not sure what Neil M.'s problem was, because the food was great, portions are large, and I didn't overhear any political opinions spoken loudly. But there was a monster truck rally playing on a TV (oh my). You can read Neil's review in the screenshot below, but it does not seem to be truth. We were seated immediately on a fairly busy Saturday evening. Everyone was friendly and professional. The decor was something you'd expect in a good local ale house. There was a plaque commemorating Iwo Jima on the wall next to us (hmmm, could that have bothered Neil M.?). The crowd was MIXED, and it seemed like there were a lot of locals. Plenty of seats and standing room at the bar and in the common area. Great place to congregate! We ordered a BLT, burgers, and a Philly cheesesteak, everything was perfect, nice predictable sides as well. Prices are fair considering the portion sizes. Excellent service, no wait for a table, clean, and very tasty food, several beers on tap. Hubs and I aren't big eaters so we shared the hamburger steak with mashed potatoes and broccoli, and a 10 piece boneless wings. We were stuffed!! First time visiting Olde Well Tavern. I was looking for a casual place to have a beer and bite with a friend. Olde Well is BUSY on a Friday night, so if you want a table, get there in advance if possible. When we arrived, even the bar was full. It took a couple of minutes for the only bartender to fit us in, but I had an old fashioned that was pretty good. The beer selection is average. After about a 30 minute wait, we were able to sit and eat. The table service was friendly and always available. We had fried pickles, which are always welcome and tasty. I had chips and a ribeye sandwich. The chips were house made, (I think) and were nothing to write home about, cold, and 'meh.'The ribeye sandwich was expensive, but big and filled with delicious meats. No complaints there. Overall, I plan to come back and try the wings and some other stuff. read more

Really pleased with this spot! Unassuming location, but this place is great! Definitely bar and grill style atmosphere, and the menu reflects that too. When you walk in, it's got a healthy buzz, but not too loud. Service was good, as the server was attentive, the order was correct, and our drinks were always filled. We lucked out and came on a trivia night! It was well done and the entire restaurant seemed to enjoy it. The fried pickles I got were crispy and salty, pretty much what you want from a fried pickle. My chicken sandwich was juicy and the bun was nicely toasted. Funny to compliment something so basic but some people get it wrong! Not these guys. We really like Olde Well! We have had them a few times, both as eat in and take out and both have been good. I'd recommend getting the appetizer sampler and trying their onion rings, pretzel bites and southwest eggrolls. The pretzel bites seem like a throw away but these are stuffed with cheese and really delicious! They have good ranch dressing, their potato are the unusual windy variety which is fun and their burgers are consistently good. One point off because only just the last time we got two pimento cheese burgers that were decidedly cheap on the pimento cheese. If I am getting a pimento cheese burger, I came for pimento cheese obviously so don't be cheap! Aside of that though, it's a really fun spot, if you can eat in they have a huge beer variety with something for everyone's palate and the food is decidedly good! Came for the wings after hearing and reading so much positive comment's on it. So myself and my boy Nick came to give it a try. (35min drive) and we got Garlic Parmesan and Boom boom flavors. We rate on 0-10 scale for wings The chicken Parm was a solid 5. The sauce was weak but the wing itself was spot on far as cooking. The sauce was runny didnt stick to the weling at all, and had hardly any flavor The boom boom came in with a 6.5. good flavor, stuck well, good after taste... I cannot believe I have not written a review of this place yet.... but my lack of reviewing is not an indication of whether you should try it! Olde Well Tavern is just a great little hole in the wall sports bar just outside of downtown Lexington. Most weeknights they have something going on from Trivia to Music Bingo (you will probably see us there) to live music. Outside, it is not too much too look at, but inside you'll find a very nice (and good size) bar, and a decently large and clean dining area. We have been a lot of times, and of course every now and then you will have a server that is having a bad day, but overall the service tends to be very good! We have also been taking advantage of their take out during the COVID pandemic. As for drinks and food, they have probably one of the better, if not the best beer selections in Lexington and they do offer cans, bottles, and growlers to go! I don't know that I have had anything to eat that I would not order again, but some of my favorites are their salads, wings, burgers, and wraps. And their ranch dressing is fantastic for the ranch snobs out there! If you need a fun spot to hangout for a bit, or just want to go get some good food, Olde Well Tavern is a great spot! read more

I've had Olde Well bookmarked for a while. It's on the east side of Business 85 in Lexington, and I've passed it hundreds on times heading home to High Point from Charlotte. I finally got the opportunity to visit this weekend and it was well worth the wait. Olde Well is in kind of an unassuming building and has the feel of a local spot where you kinda expect to walk in, the jukebox screeches to a halt, and everyone turns to stare like a movie. Isn't like that at all. Everyone was incredibly welcoming and friendly, especially our waitress, who took the time to go through all the beers and wing flavors. Speaking of beer: phenomenal selection of both drafts and bottles/cans. I had three: Girl Scout Cookie Stout, Suit & Thai (Thai-influenced spicy beer), and a Donut-infused nitro (see photo). All very good. Olde Well has some of the best wings in the Triad area (yes, I'm grandfathering Lexington into the Triad). We had garlic parmesan and hot. They also have Carolina Reaper and Grim Reaper wings, which I'm dying to try, but need to do it on a night when I don't have to function afterward. We did try the Carolina Reaper sauce, which was actually delicious, and didn't have me crying in a corner in the fetal position, so there's that! We also had side salads, which were the perfect size, and were nice and fresh. The ranch dressing is homemade, but I didn't notice anything overly special about it. It was good [shrug]. Everyone in the group was really impressed with Olde Well. We remarked that it would be a great place to watch a game, especially if you're looking to get out of the humdrum of your usual spots. The food is probably better than your usual spots as well. I do recommend using your GPS if you're from out of town. With no direct turn off from 85 Business south, it isn't intuitive. Was told it would be a 30 minute wait and received a text stating they would text when the table was ready. Checked on our status after waiting for 50 minutes and was told we were next to be seated. Another 40 minutes later (now 1 1/2 hours in) we decide to call and see what's going on...only to be told they yelled our name outside and didn't have our number to call and they normally don't text or call. They acted as if it was our fault that we didn't have a table. If they gave me a $500 gift card, I'd throw it away before I went back to check this place out. read more
