The menu stated, "our secret scampi sauce." Well, it was quite a secret, I couldn't see or taste it. Our security clearance wasn't high enough. The shrimp was over-cooked and like rubber. The mussels were salty, but at least had some seasoning. Our server was overwhelmed. She did not do a good job, but I still gave her a tip. The place is super noisy. They had music blaring, so everyone talking very loudly. I have been to Italy, and this place is as far from Italian as it gets. I did finally find the secret sauce. It was pooled in the bottom of the plate. Also, I never saw a manager the entire time. They need to step up and help the poor servers and talk to diners. They have a big wood burning stove centered in the dining room, but the smokey warmth that greets you at the door is their own in-house smoker. They smoke all their own meats! Spoke to the waitress: everything is fresh and homemade. The variety on the menu is amazing, like a drive across the USA from Maryland. To get the local flavor, I had the cream of crab soup. Rich, delicious and full of real crab. Biscuits and gravy are the best I've ever had. Please don't tell my southern-cook brother in law. Same with fried pickles. They have spoiled me for ever having them anywhere else. Their barbecue is excellent and distinctive. Potatoes are fresh and flavorful; my dad called their fries "county fair fries" ...perfectly cooked and skins intact. My dad got tuna melt, club sandwich, and grilled cheese: all great. And he even loved their chili, and he's a huge chili snob. The interior is humble and authentic to old school roadside diners... the wood burning stove is a unique touch. And if that weren't enough, the music is amazing, over our visits we heard The Ramones, ska, funk, salsa, Afro-Cuban... all at a perfect volume. Can you tell I love this place?

They were light and crispy with just the right amount of salt. Two of us ordered the loaded Patrick's bowl with mashed potatoes, fried chicken, chicken gravy and corn. It was pretty bad. The chicken was overcooked and really tough to eat. The potatoes were super thin, runny, and most likely an instant potato mix. I was definitely expecting more and was disappointed by the dish. Maybe they were having an off day? The restaurant was really busy so maybe we just ordered the wrong thing. I would give it another shot.
