I tried this Visionworks location since I moved from Riverhead to South Setauket. Since I was used to the service at the Riverhead store, thought the service would be consistent. Unfortunately not so. Now, the Tech that took me back to the testing machines was great. He had great customer service skills. The female eye doctor, though, had no personal skills. They didn't even offer to clean my glasses which I got at a Visionworks. Decided not to upgrade my lens there. Instead will just buy online. read more

I am so glad that I am not the only one who notices the rudeness and low standards of services of their staff especially the one with long hair, they are not willing to to help you and if they do they talk way too much before they do their job... which is soooooo annoying. And if they help you they are too rattled as if their first day on their job !!! I am Asian and one of them joked that they don't like us in there! Terrible customer experience as well. Optometrist was the only bright spot. The employees working in front were awful. First, tons of hidden fees for lens. Do you want a lens that easily scratches? No?!?? Ok, that'll be another 100. Would you like your glasses to reflect light in your eyes when you drive? No?!? That'll be another 100. Then the customer service. Just an hour and half of watching the employees play on their ipads while people are waiting and waiting. What are you doing?!? Why is this taking so long?!? I hate this place. Then comes the cherry on top. Ok, you just spent hundreds on glasses and now you just want to pick them up and go. But you can't. We need to make sure your glasses fit. I rarely leave negative reviews, but the customer service I experienced was truly unacceptable. Front desk and optician were rude and disrespectful .. I was either ignored, dismissed, or given inconsistent information. No one seemed willing to take responsibility or follow through on simple requests. I spent more time chasing down answers than actually being helped. If this company wants to keep customers, they need serious training in communication, accountability, and basic courtesy. Had a wonderful experience today. Patricia was lovely, knowledgeable, and took the time to make sure I got the best deal possible. Every employee in there was kind and sociable, even those not actively assisting me. We have been coming for years and the doctor is great. The front office staff really needs to work with customer service. They are rude and gossip a lot! I was talked into a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses by the sales representative. He told me they would send them to Maui Jim to have my prescription added . It cost me over $350. with my insurance plan. Recently, I had to send the glasses back to Maui Jim to have the nose pads replaced. They informed me that the lenses were not authentic Maui Jim lenses and they couldn't honor the warranty. When I contacted Visionworks, they were unable to pull up the invoice in their system because they updated it a few years back so they could do nothing for me. This office does not answer the telephone. A call was placed to say I was running a few minutes late. This took numerous try's to get through. If you know the menu you know the frustration. I arrived minutes late and they would not honor the appointment. They had apparently taken someone else in. This really did not make sense considering the time. If they did take someone, that would have left that person's time after. The woman at the front desk could not articulate and seemed to be nervous or unwilling to ask if there was something that could be done considering the timing. She said there was nothing she could do. No, let's wait and see. Just, you need to reschedule. I am very familiar with tight schedules, so I will try to make sense of this lack of customer service. Either the person at the front is incompetent or she works for someone who is irrational making it was easier to turn me away than to deal with her superior. I called because I was going to be late ( you get a recording but if you say "live agent" you'll get transferred right away) and Jonathon S. at the front desk was so kind about it, laughing when I said I'd driven right by it and had to turn around! My wife and I scheduled our appointments for 5:20PM and 5:40PM on 6/15/2021 at the Setauket location. Upon our arrival, the front desk lady told us that my wife's 5:40PM appt was not on their schedule, even though I showed them the confirmation email and that I filled out the admission forms. At first they said they would have to reschedule the appts but my wife took off of work for this appointment so the manager asked the doctor if she could squeeze her in after the 6PM appointment and this made the "doctor" PISSED. This "doctor", gave my wife and I the most unprofessional eye exam that we have ever been through. She did not want to be there whatsoever and wanted out ASAP. My wife's appointment was even shorter than mine as she made her read one line and didn't even look into her eyes. My appointment was around 4 mins and I timed my wife's appointment at 2 minutes and 35 seconds.....She was also very rude and very shrugged. It was completely unprofessional and unacceptable. I don't even feel she was really a doctor. I don't feel confident I got a proper eye exam and feel I should be getting a different eye exam at a more professional office where the doctors want to work there. The only saving grace was Sam, the optician who was super friendly, and super patient with us while we picked out frames. I emailed the customer service email address that the replies to the reviews mention last week but no one checks that email as I never got a response. Just goes to show how much they really care about customer service... This was our last time using Davis Visionworks as we have had bad experiences with the doctors being unhappy at this location before. I hope they take their exams more seriously in the future... read more

Came here and spent $500 on glasses and staff told us "we don't give out glass cleaning cloths anymore" basically suggesting that they were only for sale. Doctor was a bit condescending but did a thorough retinal exam. It was rude that she pushed for an $40 OCTR, asking "why don't you want to do this?" "Which one of you is paying for this?" When I know any retinopathy would be referred to an ophthalmologist anyway, kept mentioning diabetes nobody had. Suggested we wait 40 minute for dilation (only took 15-20) and was asking if we would come back or stay several times. Please trust that the patient knows what's best for them. Got the display glasses as a rx, not new ones. I knew this because it was marked before the lenses were made. The lady brushed me off when I said the glasses were uncomfortable and short, remarked hers were too and eventually heat-adjusted them. Front desk girl (tattoo on her left forearm) was utterly confused when we asked for a visit summary (that the doctor said was available up front) as if other practices don't regularly give visit summaries. She kept talking about an rx and SAID she was confused. Obviously. Staff shouldn't act like they're doing you a huge favor, most need better knowledge. read more

I have been buying glasses from this location for the past 5 years. I bought a pair of Harlem Davidson sunglasses and they broke. The arm broke off. I went back to vision works and they told me that they no longer offer these glasses. They also said in a sour tone there is nothing they can do. I have been in business for 40 years there is always something you can do,! I won't get my next pair of glasses from them. Neither will the rest of my family...very Unprofessional. read more

I just left this office and the receptionist upfront had an attitude with me because I walked in to get an eye exam done. First off, she did not greet me. She said she would help me make an appointment and I said "I thought you take walk ins" she said it's appointment only. This got me very frustrated because I not only spoke to someone earlier who confirmed they took walk ins but also it is falsely advertised on their website. My first recommendation would be to hire nicer people who enjoy their workplace. My second recommendation would be to remove that they take walk ins on their website. Yes this a 1 star review. Went there because I had insurance via the union at my new job. Showed up, found a great pair of frames, had an excellent comfortable exam with a knowledgeable optometrist. Requested the Rx and pupillary distance for additional leaded glasses that my employer would pay for (they are extremely expensive for radiation protection at work which Davis does not sell to my knowledge). The optometrist told me that they would measure my pupillary distance by a staff member out front. After waiting my turn I politely asked the manager what next steps were, then this woman (who was with her own client) starts barking from 10 feet behind the manager that I couldn't have that done here because I wasn't getting glasses there and something about her license. I politely told the manager that I did not feel welcomed here and I in-fact wanted the Avio blue frames and that the Rx and measurements were for additional glasses at work. The manager looked so embarrassed and red in the face over this employee. Then the manager starts telling me politely that they will make an exception for me. Exception for what? This just made it worse. The whole store got quiet with lots of customers over this other employee. I told the manager I am never coming back here ever again. I went to Warby Parker which is my usual go to. What a disaster at Davis. Never again. I only went because it was supposed to be hassle-free with the insurance at Davis. read more

My Wife and I have gotten glasses here in this location for three years now and we have a definite issue with our last pair we've gotten. Both of us decided to go without an exam as we we're both happy with our previous prescriptions from two years ago. The pair from last year seemed a bit hazy and not like those older ones. We get our glasses and my wife's required a significant amount of adjusting. Not overly happy but went home as it was late and they were getting ready to close. We notice the backs of her arms go three inches around her ears. We go back and they rudely gave us a hard time trying to adjust it and didn't even want to offer any assistance rectifying it. After several weeks with these new glasses, not only are my wife's frames falling off, but both of us have this hazy vision issue with my wife getting tremendous headaches and dizziness. I actually resort to the glasses I wanted the match to and the difference is night and day. Is it possible that they're using some new substandard labs... like their new customer service? Very dissatisfied as our insurance only affiliates with Visionworks. read more

Terrible phone service. You can no longer call the store directly. You have to go through a call center. I waited 34 minutes on hold before someone answered. I was trying to verify my insurance. However, the representative could not verify my insurance. She put me on hold and tried to contact the store to verify but even she could not get them to answer the phone. She told me she left a message to call me but I have not received a call back. I was forced to make an appointment on line and still don't know if they will accept my insurance. read more

I have been trying to reach the East Setauket location on Nesconset Highway to speak with Kim -on your staff for TWO days. Your phone system is diplorable. Improvements should to a business be Customer Friendly, after all that is what increases your investments. Whoever masterminded this really omitted the fact that your customers are the reason for this business. Great customer service, this place discovered that my eye care benefits were excellent and fully covered a years worth of my contact lenses and a portion of eye glasses, had been going to a private local shop who always told me the coverage I had was minimal and only applied to the eye exam and a very small addition to the lenses or eye glasses. I had been getting completely ripped off for years at my other place and it was my entire family of 4 paying through the nose every year for lenses or glasses, never both. ZERO STARS!! STAY AWAY! I went in to this store an hour and a half before the place was closing with my 4 year old. It was empty. Literally two ladies (one decent lady and a nasty lady who was in charge for the evening) on staff and no customers. I asked if we could get a walk-in examination for eyeglasses. Well, the brunette that works there treated me as if I asked to see the Queen or something. "Uh, no, you can't get an exam, you need an appointment. Our doctor is getting ready to leave" was her response. SILLY ME for thinking that the big sign on their window that says "Walk-Ins Welcome" actually meant that walk ins were welcome. So I said, graciously and embarrassed, "Oh, sorry, okay can we make an appointment for tomorrow?" Nasty (let's call her that) then responds with, "Whoa, whoa, whoa. Let's start with do you even HAVE insurance?!" I said, yes, we do. Nasty then says, "I can't make any appointments until I get insurance authorization and I'm cleaning the store right now." At that point we should have left. But I'm overly polite by nature. So I said, "Okay, I'll look at frames and get an idea of what I like so it makes it easier when I come back for my appointment." Nasty didn't respond. So I looked at frames for approx 5 minutes, my child asked to use the restroom. I walked toward the rear and informed Nasty that we were going to use the restroom. Nasty said, "That's fine as long as you accompany him, I get messes all day from kids." I was so shocked by her attitude and what was spewing out of her mouth that I said nothing and just proceeded to the restroom. When we came back to showroom after using the restroom, I asked Nasty a general question about the turnaround time it would take to get glasses once I ordered them. It was a general question (on their website it's answered in their FAQS). Nasty then huffed, rolled her eyes, and spoke slowly to me, as if I had a learning disability. She said, "I. Can't. Answer. That. Because. You. Did. Not. Make. An. Appointment. And. I. Do. Not. Have. Your. Paperwork. In. Front. Of. Me. I. Do. Not. Even. Know. If. You. Have. Insurance." That was my cue to leave. But before I left, I said," I've been here, to this store, for glasses for my entire family of five, TWICE, through insurance. I hear you loud and clear. I'm a naught person who didn't make an appointment. Shame on me." I then left the store. I went home, told my hubby about what happened, and he called the store. I'd like to preface this by saying that we are not yellers, we don't swear, we are nice to the point where people think they can abuse us, as Nasty did to me. Nasty answered the phone. Hubby asked her why she treated me that way. SHE DENIED EVERYTHING, said I misunderstood her. Hubby then politely told her that she shouldn't be working in customer service if she doesn't like customers or children. She hung up on him! No apology, but a hang up! I go to the bank, I have no problems. I go to the grocery store, no problems. So it's not ME. It's DAVIS VISIONWORKS EMPLOYEES. We used to have insurance that allowed us to go to LensCrafters. We had NEVER had an issue with them, and we had been to the very crowded Roosevelt Field store, as well as Sunrise Mall and Lake Grove locations. EVERYONE at LensCrafters, honestly everyone, had always been kind, helpful, and respectful. But now that we have Davis Visionworks, we cringe having to get glasses. We have tried the Belle Meade location--rude people. The Centereach location--rude and impatient people, but so far the most tolerable if I had to choose. The Rocky Point location--a dirty, cramped store with rude and smelly people (they go out the door, smoke cigarettes, and come back in exhaling it and then want to get close to your face to measure you for glasses), and the worst manager on staff, Karen. Now this Setauket location is just as cringeworthy. WHAT IS INHERENTLY WRONG WITH DAVIS VISIONWORKS THAT EVERY STORE AND EMPLOYEE OF THEIRS STINKS?! Going into Davis Visionworks makes me feel like what it must feel like to go to Social Services. Not to mention that the selection stinks and the 10 day plus wait for glasses is absurd. I'm disgusted that police officers have to take their business here. How I wish NYPD would renegotiate their providers. Because I shouldn't have to feel the need to shower the scum off me every time I leave Davis Visionworks. I do not want Davis to respond with the generic "We are sorry that you had a neg experience, please private message us to discuss this further" response. All I see, for every location I've named, is that generic response. Why don't you actually try to DO something to change the situation?? Send in undercover people to see what it feels like to be treated this way and start firing, rehiring, and pay big $ for world class TRAINING! But you won't do that because you own all the insurance contracts so why bother bringing in properly trained, well paid employees to treat people well, right Davis?? read more

Just got a new pair of glasses from them and through no fault of my own, the lenses popped out of the frames in less than a day. I am not the only person who has had this problem with their glasses in the past, as my mother who also gets her glasses here has had her lenses pop out frequently. This must be due to a recent drop in quality because the last pair I got from them about 5 years ago (A very similar style of frames, so much so that one of the optometrists commented on it), has had this happen exactly once and only after years of wear and tear. I am really disappointed having this happen after less than 24 hours of light use (I've only worn them while sitting at the computer all day, the lens popped out when I got up to go to the bathroom). read more

my wife wanted her records forwarded to our new optician. She was told they could not release them without her signature. When she went to sign the release the counterperson could not locate them. they called the rocky point visionworks and they could not locate them either. They were finally able to locate them after my wife theatened to call the corporate office and also report them to the state. My wife and I went to Mt Sinai Optical and recieved excellent service. Contact lenses that took 1 month to get through visionworks only took 2 days with MT Sinai. The staff at Mt Sinai was very professional and helped me with picking out my glasses that fit and looked great on me. They will be servicing my familys eye care need in the future. Im stuck with my insurance and because of the convenient location, I overlooked my negative experience that occurred last spring and give them another chance. Here is what happened yesterday: Made appt 2 weeks ago for my daughter who is in from school for Thanksgiving. When she arrived, not only did the girl at counter tell her no appt was made, she insisted that I must've made appt with a different Visionworks. My daughter explained that our family members are patients there and there was no mistake. Rather than apologizing, the girl became ruder and sent my daughter away! My daughter called me at work to tell me this. I phoned the store snd spoke with the same girl who simply did not care, refused to take blame for their error, had no time to squeeze her in anywhere,and insisted I phoned the wrong place for an appt!!!! I am stuck with Visionworks because of my insurance. However, I am NOT STUCK patronizing a business whose front end is unprofessional and rude!!! Shame on them. I'm certain that being next to an empty Waldbaums has impacted their business. Having this girl at the helm chases away even more!!! Two strikes from this location. Wasn't sure what to expect based on previous reviews, but I had a great experience here. Was greeted immediately and given information right away. The eye doctor I saw was fantastic. She took time to give me advice and made the exam very pleasant. The glasses selection was easy, and the optician who helped me with that was very kind and helpful, and took the time to make sure my insurance processed everything correctly. He offered helpful input to help with my selection, but was never pushy. Very happy with this location! read more

Evening before Snowstorm Jonas, my daughter fell & broke her frame ... They quickly helped us search the shelf to find the exact frame .. it was on sale/clearance so that was quite a feat.
