Jay's in N. Lima is closed. Now have to go to Boardman for Jay's. So sorry to see them close…read more Gyros, burgers but hot dogs were their best.

Ok, this is a perfect example of a place that should get 3.5 stars; definitely better than a 3 star…read morebut a few things would knock it below 4. Let me explain: This is the definition of fast-food AND greasy spoon. You need to know that before you visit. If you are looking for a "restaurant" this is not the place for you. However, if you understand that some of the best food, and food experiences, come from the most unlikely places, then enjoy my friend! Small place with a drive-thru. Inside has 4 tables and 7 stools. Grill is right behind the counter so you see everything they do. I ordered the #6 Hungry Man because I wanted to try both a gyro and a hot dog. Let's talk about the food: Gyro - It was really, really good. The pita was perfect and the meat had great flavor. The negative on the gyro was the tzatziki sauce; it was incredibly runny and didn't have a very strong flavor (3.8 stars). My only guess is that it is watered down. Even still, I really enjoyed the gyro. Hot dog- They call them "Jays" and there are a lot of ingredient options. I went with mustard and chili. This is obviously why the place is called Jay's Famous HOT DOGS. This is the way to go! The hot dog was great. The chili had an awesome taste: kinda smokey and peppery. The bun was very fresh too which was unexpected to be honest. On future visits, I will definitely just get hot dogs! Fries- Fresh cut. There was basically no salt so I had to add quite a bit. They may have been just a little undercooked too. However, I still thought they were good and had no problem eating all of them. But...it is one thing that would keep the stars below 4 so keep that in mind. (3.6 stars) I ate in and as I was eating there was a steady crowd of people coming in and going through the drive-thru. The girls behind the counter did a great job but I did see more than a few people wait 10+ minutes for their food. (3.5 stars) Just know that if you visit right at lunch time you might end up waiting a little bit. If that happens, be patient!! Long review but some important things to know about this place. If you are considering it, I say go for it! Enjoy the atmosphere, experience, and surprisingly good food.

Let's start with the food. The Hilltop, also known and searchable as Basilone's, is the best value…read morein the area from New Castle to Youngstown to Sharon. Hilltop has Margie Dogs, unique to the area (although some say "uhh, Stanley Dogs?") and a short menu of local traditional favorites. Today it's about the first Friday of Lent, 2026, and the fish dinners associated with Lent in this area. That plate of deep fried haddock, with mac and cheese, and cole slaw, and the bread and butter was $9.00! Nine freaking bucks! And it came out blistering hot and delicious. I also got a couple Margie Dogs. You can't have Margie Dogs, because you think chili dogs are the best. You have to CRAVE a Margie Dog. And anyone who has ever HAD a Margie Dog, CRAVES Margie Dogs. So suffer. Margie Dogs are so much better than chili dogs, so you don't deserve them. (Hilltop does have kraut and chili dogs as well. And there's catsup on the table for your chili dog...) Anyways, the wife and I got two fish dinners, two Margie dogs, the sides and bread. Oh, and two Black and Tan pints. For $25.00. And I tipped a fin cause, man! Take care of your wait staff mang! I would bring my Mom here, lots of stuff to look at, pictures all over the walls, and a quiet and safe bunch of customers. In a quiet and safe part of Farrell, Pa. If you haven't been here, even in a couple of years, come back. Farrell is up and running great!
