My wife researched groomers in our area (Fair Oaks/Carmichael). This place was recommended by a few people so she made the appointment for today (5/18) at 8am. I brought my little girl, Smokie, in. She's got long hair that has matted and was in need of a spa day. Well, I pull up and the door was locked. I knocked and nada. Since we had an appointment supposedly at 8, and no one was there. Non-existent communications. We sit in my car waiting on someone to show up. I had the bright idea to call the number on their yelp and spoke to someone who said that someone should be there and she'd call to figure out what was going on. The lady I spoke to was not very customer friendly and acted like I was bothering her on a Saturday. She called me back a few minutes later saying she was coming in to take the appointment. By this time it was almost 8:30. The hours posted stated cats were from 8-9, then dogs from 9-4. My cat was not going to be easy or simple. Aside for the matting, she has only 1 eye and huge PTSD that makes her a bit of a handful. The spa day was gonna take a whole lot longer that an hour. However, I decided spending more time and trauma to my cat was done. I left. No calls to see what was up, no attempts to apologize or reschedule for Smokie. My advice is to avoid this place. They seem to not really care about their customers or about taking their business seriously. The 5 star reviews need to be taken with a grain of salt. read more

Just moved to the area so we've been looking for a groomer but was worried because our yorkie mix is a bit shy and nervous when going to the groomers. Well let's start off with I'm sure glad I chose you ladies! They were truthful and said she was quite nervous but was good playing with the other puppers. I thought I lucked out with this place because every other grooming store I contacted said they were booked solid for at least 1-2 months. I was able to book a next day appointment with Dawn. I called the day before to confirm the appointment. Drove 45 mins only to arrive with a locked door and the sound of multiple dogs barking and whining inside. I waited for a few minutes then went next door to the cleaners and asked the owner if the place next door was open. He said yeah, she's in there, just knock on the window. They were so calm and happy when I arrived, on the carpet in the room with another dog having too much fun to care that I had arrived. So after being groomed at the same place for almost 3 years, Monty became afraid of the groomer after they changed staff. He wouldn't go in. I tried another groomed, and they called me to come get him, because he was too aggressive and wouldn't let the groomer touch him. Suggested I might have to have a Vet sedate him to groom him. Thank goodness for Yelp. I found a Dawn, who is known for dealing with dogs who don't like groomers. She thinks he was likely muzzled and slapped at the last place. When she moved her hand, Monty would either snarl or shrink back. Anyway, she did an amazing job to start to build back his trust. So I will start dropping him off to play and get used to things again. I think taking him in every couple of weeks for a bath before the next grooming will help too. He looks a little perplexed by the day - but at least I can see his eyes now. I can't recommend Dawn's Pet Palace enough. I talked to lots of pet parents coming and going, and they all love the care their pets receive here. ... Update... we rescued another dog, and today Frankie was transformed. I just took my two dogs here for the first time and walking in reminder me of dropping off my child at Preschool!! Tons of cute decor and huge people size teddy bears! And there were several dogs walking about in a private gated section!! No kennels! Because I have two dogs that sometimes aren't good around other dogs we were able to take them in the back yard play area where Dawns motherVicki, I think was her name, was playing fetch with my two little boys!! For my first and only dog's first haircut I was very skeptical and hoping to find somewhere that would listen and make sure the grooming would turn out the way my boyfriend and I had in mind. We visit Carmichael often from San Francisco and while here in Carmichael during Memorial Day weekend our dog was way overdue for a haircut. Of course I had to make sure that where I was taking him had to be a good place since again it was gonna be his first time so I wanted it to be a good one for my little guy. Came across Dawn's Pet Palace and very happy that I did. First impression of the place was "WOW that's a lot of pink". Lol but read the reviews and seemed like a pretty cool place for pet grooming. Scheduled and appointment and at the time of dropping our dog off, I was even more in shock on how the place looked inside in person. There's a HUGE play area for the pets while the grooming stations were in the back. The only thing was that the grooming took longer than expected but I don't mind because it came out beautiful and definitely will be bringing my Malone back! We paid $50 for a bath and haircut which is the best price we have came across while finding a place to groom our dog. AND she even added a little American flag bandana on him for Memorial Day weekend. So freaking cute!! Thank you so much Dawn for making this frightening situation into an amazing situation for me!!! Oh goodness. Where do I even start?! We just moved in the area and cannot believe we've been missing out on this amazing place! We've had our puppy bathed a handful of times, but this must have been her first true pamper session. She smelled so good and felt extra soft and cuddly! Okay so this place is cute, a little overwhelming and yes a little tacky but cute. The service I received was friendly for the most part but definitely not the best. It was my fur babies first time getting groomed so of course I had an area of concern and wanted to make sure he was taken care of. But I felt rushed to leave and told I couldn't stay. Also the language the staff uses is not very professional but I mean whatever we are all adults.. We took our pup Zoe in to Dawn's this past weekend and I think this is the best haircut she's ever gotten. The cut is super clean and even. They even got her legs and underside, which other places seem to overlook. It took a bit longer than other places I've been to but they were short-handed and I didn't mind at all. read more

I brought my Chihuahua and Pomeranian Mix in for a nail trim over a month ago and the guy said they could bathe them and get a lot of the hair off my Pomeranian and it would only be $10 more than nail trim (nail trim was only $10 each) and included the trim. So I made an appointment for both and when I dropped them off the $20 each was now $35 and $20. Okay still a good price. When I picked them up suddenly the price changed again and it was $50 and $25. I was a bit perturbed and gave the guy $100, took my change and left without offering any word or leaving a tip. When I got home and inspected my dogs closer, I realized they did a fantastic job on my Pomeranian. Not only did she come home soft as could be, but they got a lot of her undercoat which I'm sure was making her hot. And they did a terrific job of trimming around her butt which is so important with a long fur dog like her. I wish they'd been more upfront with me about their pricing. Others might not have handled it the same as I did. But getting past that the price still wasn't bad and as I said they did an excellent job. Have to give them one ding for the price confusion, but four stars for the grooming. Definitely would recommend. read more

Absolute incompetence! I am beyond livid!! I brought my dog into get groomed several weeks ago, my dog after a few weeks started shaking her head a lot. I looked into her ear and found each ear packed with cotton ... photo attached. It was so deep in her ear I would have never seen if she had not started shaking her head. I brought my dog up to Dawn's pet palace for them to check her ears to make sure all the cotton was out and they offered a free grooming. Several days later we brought her back for the free grooming AND THEY DID THE SAME THING AGAIN!!! Cotton was left in my dogs ear, only one this time ... picture also attached! I don't know where to begin! I went there because they were cheap but BIG MISTAKE! THEY LITERALLY KEPT MY SMALL DOG 8 HOURS for a haircut! I kept calling and was told 30 minutes longer until I was fed up and just went down there and got him. My dogs hair is ugly and there was a small cut on his face!!! I mentioned that he was bleeding and they acted like it was no big deal. I could not get out of that place fast enough! When I brought him home he was very lethargic and thirsty! I've been going to Dawn's Pet Palace for over a year now for my chihuahua. Now I have brought my second dog Benji to her for his first puppy cut he is a yorkie. Even though he was very hyper and moved around a lot she was still able to do a amazing job with his haircut. It's exactly how I wanted it and I couldn't be happier. Her place is also so cute with the glitter floor and all her decorations and of course it being pink. It's located across the street from me as well so I love it. It does take a while sometimes so be ready for that could be a couple hours but I don't mind he gets time to play with the other dogs which is great. This was my 4 month golden doodle puppy's first groom and this is my first dog so I gave this place a try since it had a lot of good reviews. I book an appointment via telephone and Dawn tells me to come in at 2:30pm. I arrived at the shop and the open signage is off and all the windows are covered in pink advertising so you cannot see inside. I was very hesitant at this point only for my feelings to be confirmed when I walk into an overwhelming amount of tacky decor. A mixture of a pink theme, not taken down holloween decor and dirty floors. They have a random selection of harnesses, leashes, etc that have dust all over the products as if it's been sitting unattended for years. No one greeted me at the entrance after I signed in so I walked into the gate pass the sign in booth into the products display area. I notice a full sized bed to the right and perhaps people sleep there too? Workers are unprofessional but they were a bit older and kindhearted. Dogs were walking about which was nice and they were provided with water. This was my last resort since all other places were booked and one of the workers said he would be in good hands. Upon agreance I was to pick my dog up at 6pm. I arrived and the man with the long beard said that they need 30 more minutes and asked if I lived close by to come back. I ended up waiting in the parking lot for 30 more minutes after arriving. My dog was there from 2:30 to 6:30, which is a total of 4 hours. Towards the end I did notice that kibble was left out for dogs to be fed. I was not asked by a worker if my dog was allowed to eat kibble they had provided. Despite all, the cut was great and my dog smelled amazing. My dog started scratching his ear at pickup and the workers were hesitant and saying that he might have a cotton ball in his ear??? As soon as I put my dog in my car he urinates a full amount. He is potty trained and never pees in my car and this is how I know he has never went to the bathroom since I dropped him off. I have mixed feelings as I am a new dog owner and this was my first experience at grooming. This place does a great job at grooming dogs, but customer service is beyond terrible, well being of dogs outside of grooming is not accounted for, and cleanliness in the lobby area is unsanitary and unkept. I shopped around many groomers to find one that was comfortable with a 95lb pittie that needed to be kept separate from other dogs. I looked no further after speaking to Dawn. Dawn said she loved bigs dogs and arranged for me to bring him in at a time where he wouldn't be mixed with others. As soon as my dog met Dawn I knew he was in good hands! She bathed, trimmed nails, did ear flush and Anal glands extraction on my dog with no issues Also, he wasn't traumatized when I went to pick him up about an hour later ... definite bonus!! I brought my two cockapoos here three times and I'll never go again and here's why. I'll start off with the good. They do a good job after I tell them what I want done but only after it's drilled into Dawns mind because supposedly she doesn't write directions down or has great memory. I don't appreciate having to repeat myself. My main problem is how long she had my two dogs which was seven hours, two times in a row. Wouldn't have been a problem if she hadn't told it would be four hours both times. Don't come here if you like having things on a schedule. The first time was 4 hours. Second time was seven, said they were busy. I had to call three times because each time I called, I got "another half an hour" or "twenty more minutes". What Dawn meant by that was "it'll be another two hours". Either she's bad at time management or she's a liar and doesn't want to admit she messed up. Talked to some long time customers and one said he's used to it, been going for two years. Another said, "you know I just think she's too nice and takes on too much." When I went to leave this last time after I had expressed I was angry, Dawn said to me, "I know you're pissed but it's probably better to bring them in at 9am (versus 1230 which was my apt time) because then we can get to them sooner." Excuse me? So it's my fault you couldn't get them done in said 4 hours? Also, "you can take them to A&M and they won't do as good of a job as us" also "sorry it's harder we don't have enough staff" LOL okay. Also she claims the dogs run around. I've never seen the dogs running around and both my dogs drank a whole bowl of water when they got home and pottied a lot, and played a lot AS IF THEY WERE NEVER OUT OF CAGES. To sum it up, Dawn's awful at time management, is unprofessional, lies, won't own up to mistakes and is horrible at decorating. Her business looks like she let her three old little girl decorate.
