I fell and broke my ankle while walking on my college campus last September 2022 and needed surgery…read moreif I ever wanted to walk again. As soon as I arrived to Medical City's ER in Denton I was immediately met with probably the rudest group of staff members I have ever encountered in my entire life. The front desk receptionist (I'd say in her mid 40's to 50's) was extremely rude to me as soon as I walked in. She had an attitude the entire time and acted as if she was mad or annoyed at me for "bothering" her with my injury. The nurse (mid 20's to early 30's with dirty blonde/brown hair) who checked me in/started triage was EVEN RUDER than the front desk lady, which I honestly didn't think was possible. She also acted as if she was annoyed at me coming in and "bothering" her, as if this isn't her job that she went through years of school for and CHOSE to do. I was in severe pain as I had just suffered a very bad break and obviously wasn't able to walk. Before I left the ER, the nurse gave me crutches to use to get around until the day of my surgery the next week. I have never had to use crutches up until then as this was my first time ever breaking a bone. I immediately had trouble using the crutches and lost my balance while trying to walk. The nurse told me to stand up and try to walk with them and then walked away to do something. As soon as I took my first step I immediately lost my balance and fell. The ONLY reason why I didn't fall all the way to the ground was because my boyfriend was able to catch me at the last minute. When this happened the front desk lady turned around and very angrily SCREAMED "YOU NEED TO GET UP AND BE MORE CAREFUL RIGHT NOW!!!". This was pretty much my breaking point with this ER as I OBVIOUSLY was being careful and would not just choose to fall on purpose. It's absolutely ridiculous and unnecessary to SCREAM at a person for not being able to use crutches after just suffering a severe ankle break. The last thing you want to deal when you are at your worst are rude staff members. These 2 women made my experience so miserable that I now refuse to ever go back to Medical City's ER in Denton when it used to be my go to ER for years. If you need to go to an ER I recommend going to a stand alone ER or just any ER other than Medical City's ER in Denton. I have had great experiences with other stand alone ER's located throughout the Denton/Flower Mound area. Despite this, I do want to mention one of the male staff members in particular. He was the X-ray technician (male, probably in his mid 20's to early 30's) and was the best ever. He was so so kind to me and just absolutely wonderful the entire time. He definitely made my shitty experience with the nurse and receptionist a little bit better and just my injury in general.

On some days they are great . But this last trip it was awful. I broke my ankle at work and my boss…read moretook me to the ER. The Dr comes in yanks my sock off my foot sending me into a crying fit, they took X-rays looked at me and said " just a bad Sprain here is some crutches, ace wrap and you can go " called my workers comp people and they send me to another Dr and my ankle was broken in 2 places.

A family member of mine visited this facility during 3rd shift (sometime between 2a-3a) this week…read moreand was treated terribly. They went in and was not greeted properly or taken seriously. The male nurse at the check-in desk made him feel as if he didn't belong there because he didn't "look sick." When my family member got to the back, he was given a breathing treatment and was left in the room over 20 minutes after it completed. He also told the healthcare provider that he hadn't eating in over 10 hours and they still proceeded to give him medication that needed to be taken with food. When he got back home, he was vomiting all over the place. When he got his diagnosis, the male nurse (same person who checked him in) was surprised! He shouldn't have judged a book by it's cover. Just because a person doesn't look well does not mean they don't feel well in their body! Again, he was made to feel as if he just wandered in there off the street. We have wonderful insurance (even if we did not, it shouldn't make a difference b/c healthcare providers should treat each person the same). This family member is a college student in his senior year and needed the help and what does he get? Mistreatment and prejudice! I told him to not visit this place again; at least not on the 3rd shift. The people there obviously didn't want to do their jobs! High reviews? How? I'm very concerned for my family member to get care being so far from home while in college. THIS is why I worry because of people like this! Shame on you, "Total" Care.

Michelle gives shots and IVs so painlessly and quickly I wouldn't have known I got them if she hadn't insured I knew all about my care. The doc is also awesome. Came in to see me in less than 5 minutes and obviously possessed a plethora of medical knowledge. This being a delayed reaction, it isn't an easy case to identify and treat. Very happy I came here.

Horizon Medical Center - This is what my mom's head was laying on when I arrived one evening...

In early January, my wife fell and hit her head. Her prognosis was extremely poor. The neurosurgeon…read moredidn't want to operate and didn't think she would ever wake up, much less ever walk again. But we refused to give up. Our family stayed by her side every single day throughout her hospitalization. Over the next four to five months, she slowly began to wake up and regain some awareness. She was transferred to five different hospitals during her recovery. Unfortunately, one of them nearly cost her life due to negligence. Before arriving at Horizon Medical Center, she was at an acute long-term care facility where the ICU and respiratory teams were excellent. As we prepared to leave that facility, we were presented with several options. Given our earlier bad experience, we were extremely concerned about choosing the wrong place. One of the respiratory therapists, who also worked at Horizon, recommended it highly. She said it was a new facility that had opened in late October 2024 but provided excellent care. I toured Horizon, spoke with the staff, and immediately felt comfortable. It felt right. When my wife arrived on a Saturday afternoon, she had limited arm movement, one immobile leg, and had been on tube feeding since her initial injury. She could only manage a few ice chips. The physical therapy team came in on Sunday to evaluate her. That kind of dedication impressed our family and showed their commitment to her recovery. Speech therapy, led by Erin, was outstanding. Erin carefully assessed my wife's swallowing ability and started her on applesauce. She worked closely with the nutritionist, and within a short time, my wife was eating solid food again and no longer needed the feeding tube. Occupational therapy, led by Leah, was another blessing. Leah has more than 16 years of neuro patient experience and it shows. She brought compassion, skill, and patience. Thanks to her, my wife can now feed herself, brush her own teeth, and assist with dressing. Physical therapy, led by Shweta, was equally impressive. She worked patiently and persistently with my wife to help her stand and begin walking. The therapists didn't just help my wife; they also trained us to safely care for her at home. The nursing staff were professional, knowledgeable, and compassionate. They always informed us about medications before giving them, and the verification system gave us peace of mind. Nursing aides were equally attentive, constantly checking in to ensure she was comfortable and safe. Doctors made rounds every morning, and nurse practitioners followed up in the afternoons. Unlike at some other hospitals where we experienced inconsistent support, someone was always available at the nursing station when we needed assistance. Our case manager, Tanisha, was phenomenal. She explored multiple rehab options and ultimately helped us plan a safe home discharge. She also arranged all the necessary medical equipment for us to continue care at home. Shanna and the weekend receptionist welcomed us every day with a smile and knew our family by name. The housekeeping team kept the room spotless and fully stocked. Any concerns we raised were taken seriously and resolved quickly. When the CEO heard that my wife would benefit from a standing aid, she immediately ordered one for her. That gesture meant so much to us. With over 40 years in healthcare, including leading four hospitals and managing a large multispecialty group, I can confidently say Horizon Medical Center provides truly exceptional care. We never shared our healthcare background, so what we experienced was genuine and unbiased. Today, when my wife was discharged, the entire administrative, nursing, and therapy teams came to send us off. Thanks to their care, my wife has made amazing progress. We wholeheartedly recommend Horizon Medical Center to anyone seeking compassionate, high-quality care. With deep gratitude, The Choi Family

When we arrived at the facility EVERYONE was so friendly and welcoming!! I walked past 8 employees on day one and they all spoke to me and greeted me. Kelly the Director of Rehab Services welcomed us during intake. She was proactive from the beginning. She went above and beyond making sure that my Mom had what she needed. Jennifer the Caseworker developed a special bond with my Mom. She listened to our concerns and did her best to resolve the concerns we had with going home. The kitchen staff served good meals. Mom said it the best hospital food she has had in the last year. They made sure she had her favorite drink. Another first time for me was when the pharmacist came down during intake to discuss my Mom's medication. In all of my life I've never seen that in any hospital before. The nursing staff was great at answering my questions. If I ever had to send my back to rehab, I would gladly send her back there. It's a smaller rehab facility with a lot of focus on the patient.
