Large collection of jade; upon entry was greeted by an older woman who followed me throughout the store. Could feel her watching me the whole time. I did not feel free to browse the store. She asked me again if I needed help. I asked to look at some jade pendants. Her attitude was dismissive - like I was wasting her time, even though she approached me twice. Whenever I asked a question about pricing or quality, she answered almost sarcastically. My bad diva :0 sorry for being curious about the jewelry I was buying :0 I know I'm not crazy because she happily greeted/did not follow the clearly white visitors around (I'm Asian :0) Very cute jewelry! I had a mission while I was in Chinatown, which was to buy a jade bangle. I had two places in mind which were DDJ and Bin Ching Jade Center. I stopped by DDJ first and was greeted by the friendly lady (who I will just call auntie since I never got her name), but left to check out Bin Ching. After not seeing anything I wanted, I went back to DDJ. I checked out some bangles and auntie helped me figure out my size and try some on. After trying it on, I wasn't really into the bangle look anymore but auntie suggested a pendant instead. I got to try it on and fell in love immediately. We got to talking about our lives and getting to know each other as we were processing the purchase. The day after Christmas, my dad asks me if I could take him to Chinatown, as he wanted to go to Bo Wah Trading to buy a 2026 Chinese calendar. Unfortunately for us, when we got to Bo Wah Trading, we found out that they had already sold out their 2026 Chinese calendars. Needless to say, my dad was bummed out (insert Sad Panda Face), so I told him I knew of another place where we can pick up a calendar. While walking back to my car, about a block away (going mauka), there is a jewelry store called DDJ Hawaii, and right by the entrance area of the store was a ton of new 2026 Chinese calendars. As I walked into the store, I was greeted right away by a nice lady, and told her I came here to buy a 2026 Chinese calendar. The nice lady showed me the various Chinese calendars they had which ranged from $7 to $5 bucks. I told my dad to pick up the calendar he wanted, and I promptly payed $5 bucks for the calendar & thanked the very nice lady. Located in china town, really close to Lin's lei stand. There is a small parking lot you can park in (need to scan the QR code). We walked in and they immediately acknowledged us. Very friendly service! We had a lot of questions about the different jade bracelets they had available. She was happy to answer our questions and was able to show us different choices they had. We went here 7/11/26. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by 2 aunties, they automatically made us feel like we were coming in for family dinner. They were welcoming, even conversated with my 8-year-old, she is typically really shy, but they had her talking. We were able to walk around without feeling like we were being watched. We hung out, looked at everything, they let us know they could help if we needed anything. We wanted to buy almost everything in that store! All the pieces and jewelry they have, it's all different and unique. Unfortunately, we were on limited time, but we were able to find a few pieces that we liked. I brought her to DDJ Hawaii (located on the corner of Hotel Street and Maunakea Street) where she was offered many choices and found a bracelet that she really liked! Over the years, I've stopped by for gifts such as Chinese zodiac keychains, lucky red envelopes, and more. This time, I saw cute Year of the Rabbit envelopes. When I started to look at the jade rabbit lucky charms, I was asked if I needed help. Sue was the friendly, helpful employee. I told Sue that I wanted to get some party favors. She invited me into the shop and brought out a whole box of jade Rabbit charms! She encouraged me to get more than I thought that I needed since I was there. She was right! The other day I was killing time while waiting for my volcano shake, though, and I was gloriously alone. So I went in. It's a cute little shop filled with jewelry - lots of jade, which you'd expect in Chinatown. Gold and pearls and things like that too. I ended up buying an agate necklace on a silver chain - it seemed reasonably price compared to what I've seen online on sites like Etsy or Amazon for similar pieces.
