October 2025: this marks my fourth visit to a tried and true favorite. When my friends asked me where I'd like to go for my birthday, this was the spot. The "kitchen to table" setup is the best way to get the freshest and most intimate dining experience at a restaurant. From any seat, you can watch the action. See the Chef and his team put your tasting plates together. It's amazing still, each time I'm here, to see them operate in this small, open kitchen. The fresh foam, the sous vide cooking, the pan seared scallops (with brown butter dashi) searing on the hot pan. It's an outstanding dish. No shame, drank all of that broth without my spoon. The tasting menu has changed since my last visit. (Now $55 pp vs the old $75 pp, and they now offer two sharing plates that they never served before). The octopus and oxtail sharing plates are a must try. Nice sharing portions and the flavors in each dish, just outstanding cooking principles here. Loved it. The surprise elements in both were the sauce and the accompaniments (see menu). During the tasting, I not only admired the food but the plates as well. Each piece featured stunning bowls and plates. Truly a great dining experience. The Chef even offered us a refill on our Earl Grey ice cream with fleur de sel. My favorite dish was the scallops of course, and the Apple, wasabi foam with fluke. Outstanding. Totally recommend.
DDOBAR is such a gem! It's tucked away in the corner of olly olly so it took us a lap before we found it. We decided to go with the $55 per person tasting menu and split the octopus share plate. Each dish was delicious - my favorites were the scallops, the octopus share plate, and the yubutarts. The earl grey ice cream was the perfect way to end the meal, and we were stuffed by the end. The service was great as well, very attentive. We went on a weekday without a reservation and were able to sit at the bar - at one point the bar was completely full but all of the tables were open. The ambiance was better than expected: very elevated for a food hall and still intimate even though trivia night was going on at the adjacent bar.
I know most people hit up DDOBAR at Olly Olly Market for their 7-course tasting menu during dinner which is the star of the show, but I had a taste for ramen and stopped by during lunch hours (Tuesday-Friday, 12-2:30PM) for something quick and light and I'm so glad I did! They recently added ramen to their lunch menu so I had to check it out. Service was quick and it's inside a food court but the ambiance is still nice. I had the Tonkotsu ramen with pork belly, beansprouts, and scallions which was flavorful and rich without feeling too heavy. The YubuTarts (aka elevated inari sushi)? Delish. I tried the Spam & Egg musubi ($5) which was just enough for a little bite without the bloat. They offer a few extra toppings if you want to customize, but the small, focused menu really delivers. If you're in the mood for a quick, flavorful lunch or just need a ramen fix without committing to a full dinner experience, this spot hits the mark.
Overall: B // 4 stars Casual upscale dining available in Olly Olly Market along the Chelsea Piers featuring a unique Korean-forward Asian fusion tasting menu. Opted for the light 8-course version of the menu at an affordable $55 tasting, which serves as great for a light meal. I think everything is executed well, but the meal is most ideal for those who can tolerate dairy and meats to the fullest extent. (Fluke: A) - The wasabi foam carries the dish here with an immaculate subtleness that covers high surface area. The fluke is tender and powered by the foam, with apple that adds texture two ways as well as a delicate pine nut. (Hiramasa Yubu: B) - Firm white fish that works with the citrus notes; the yubu adds a powerful sweetness as well. For those who are dairy tolerant, the yuzu crema seems like it would be the perfect balance. (Botan Ebi: C) - Shrimp is tender and sweet, but the yubu is sweetener and slightly overpowers the shrimp. (Black Cod: A) - The warmth and char added from the torched miso flavor is divine, especially when contrasted with the sweet yubu. The flake salt also adds here, but borders saline-forward. (Scallop: A) - Beautifully cooked and sliced scallop with a crisp sear and tender interior; the dashi brown butter broth adds a light butter note, stronger sweetness, and a delicately umami dashi citrus that is captivating. (Salmon: A) - Perfectly pink in the middle and still firm block of Salmon that was sous vide. The nori sabayon adds a delicate grassy note, and paired with the spinach and small bits of crunchy potato chips, this was a lighthearted bite that works well. (Chicken: B) - Yangnyeom style sauce that is sweet and spicy, paired with a tender, non-fried chicken that tastes great. For dairy tolerant individuals, this also adds a parmesan coating, which would develop a depth of flavor drawn out from the saline in the cheese. (Fruit: B) - Reasonable substitute of the earl grey ice cream with soybean powder (which sounds amazing) for the lactose intolerant; the fruit is cut well, perfectly ripe, and sweet. Located in a small food hall. We made a reservation and had our choice of the higher or lower end of the counter seating. We opted for the lower end (bingo night was going on closer to the higher end, and it was cool to watch the chefs at work from the lower end). We went with the $55 Tasting Menu and added the two sharable plates (Octopus $19 and Oxtail $38): -Fluke: the wasabi was interesting with the foam texture! It tasted very mellowed out. The fresh apples and fish complimented each other -Scallop: great nuttiness from the brown butter and saltiness from the dashi, which combined well with perfectly seared scallop -Share plate - Octopus with Romesco and Almond: has a good kick to it! Super tender octopus, super buttery crisp toast, and extra crisp from the almond slices -Yuba Tarts: their signature tofu pockets (similar to inari sushi) --Hiramasa with Yuzu Crema: a bit overpowered by the yuzu crema and yuba, but love the brightness --Botan Ebi with Ikura: the botan ebi was so silky in texture! Nice hint of sweetness with the saltiness of ikura --Black Cod with Caramelized Miso: Char was perfect, but otherwise overpowered by the yuba and miso -Salmon: great tender texture from being sou vide. There was add softness from the spinach. A balance of textures came from the bit of crunch of the potato chips, and the airiness of the Nori Sabayan foam -Share plate - Oxtail with Fingerling Potatoes and Shiitake: lots of flavor, which the shiitake soaked up! The potatoes were crispy. Definitely worth getting every last bite off the bone! -Chicken: was tender and juicy with a really good kick and flavor from the gochujang. Parmesan is a great balance because it's strong enough to not be overpowered. The chicken was overpowered though, so maybe a stronger flavored meat is needed to add extra flavor. -Earl Grey (Soft Serve): such a good bergamot flavor, which was amped up with the fleur de sel salt We were offered another serving of soft serve, which I declined because of my lactose intolerance, but my fellow diners happily partook. -Complimentary Coconut Macaron: crisp outside and very coconut-y inside For drinks I went with a La Croix (Plain or Grapefruit). I went for the grapefruit. My fellow diners went with wine. With the share plates, it was the right amount of food. I do want to try the more expensive tasting menu.
Easy 5 stars!!! Food was amazing and pretty good value too. We got the $55pp menu and we left very full and satisfied. I was concerned about the ambiance at first considering it's in a food hall but it was surprisingly intimate. Service was great too; the chef gave us an extra portion of the earl grey ice cream because he overheard us raving about it! We also got complimentary coconut macaroons at the end. Overall would recommend this spot to everyone!!
This is not your typical omakase experience - inspired by korean yubu (fried tofu pockets), Michelin-starred chef Jiho Kim brings a fresh perspective to the format with two inventive tasting menus at DDO BAR, all centered around yubu tarts. We chose the 13-course yubu tasting menu at $75. From the creativity and attention to detail to the use of premium ingredients, every course felt thoughtful and refined that it was hard to pick a favorite. The menu also had a good ratio of raw and cooked toppings. Most importantly, the pacing was just right--we never felt rushed, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. It's a great spot for a casual date night or a relaxed catch-up with friends. As a bagel lover, I was impressed to see their reimagined Smoked Salmon with Everything Bagel into yubu! The Hiramasa was an indulgent bite, generously crowned with caviar for that extra touch of luxury. My friend couldn't stop raving about the Scallop, finished with a drizzle of brown butter dashi. Moving forward to some special and unexpected toppings: The Duck Pastrami was a standout with its smoky and peppery taste. The sweet Korean Beef Tartare reminded me of bulgogi. While the Pork Belly with Mushroom Pickle, served with a piece of lettuce, felt like a playful nod to kbbq. But what really caught us off guard in the best way were the desserts. The Earl Grey Soft Serve sprinkled with sea salt might just be the BEST dessert I've ever had, and the portion was generous. It was rich with tea flavor even by my standard, subtly savory. Our server also surprised us with mini coconut treats. At that point, we both agreed they've truly mastered the art of dessert.
I had high hopes that the food and concept would be great here, and I can confirm that we all enjoyed it! The dishes are highly curated and well thought out. The scallop dish with dashi broth & tuna tataki were probably my favorite. The yubu adds a refreshing tart to each of the sushi pieces - I was pleasantly surprised by this. 13 courses is a lot and I was stuffed by the 10th. This was well worth the price. It's still an underrated place. It's not that busy and I didn't need a reservation to get seated on a Friday night with 3 people. The main downside is the atmosphere. It's in a food hall, and right next to us in the open space was some Rihanna night dance party that was getting rowdy lol.
overall food and fresh food but nothing wow-ing that would make me recommend to friends. the DDOBAR tasting menu: - Fluke: woah flavor explosion, sweet tartness from the apple cubes with super fresh and soft fluke with hint of wasabi at the end - scallop: very sweet and buttery with a hint of cinnamon - yubu tarts: i actually really liked the tofu skin pockets, added a nice sweetness to each bite!!! the hirsmasa was really good with a big bump of caviar , botan ebi was super creamy and fresh, black cod was surprisingly really good with a hint of jalapeño - salmon: very basic but fresh - chicken: what was this?? chicken sausage coated with gochujang sauce well grey soft serve: SO YUM THEY GAVE US FREE SECONDS HEHEHE
The restaurant is in the middle of the food court, and has counter space only. It is worth making a reservation! We tried the chef studio tasting menu and really enjoyed all the dishes. There is a good degree of variety, and they are all very nicely presented, and taste great. I didn't feel entirely full at the end but very much enjoyed the meal and the service.
Happiness is just a meal away at a creative, affordable, delightful and surprising meal like the ones I've had at DDOBAR. I've eaten here twice now, once for the standard $75 tasting menu and another time for the upgraded $135 one and was wowed by the flavors. They even got me to try duck (a meat I don't include in my diet)-- I did not want to miss out on whatever the skilled chefs had to throw my way, down to the incredible earl grey soft serve at the end. The strange digs might explain the relatively low price point for such an incredible meal. It's one of the stands inside the food hall Olly Olly Market, located waaaay on the west side past 11th avenue, and the chef's table is not at all shielded from the onlookers playing Pop-a-shot or ordering a smoothie from a surrounding stands a few feet away. I've seen omakase hosted in other food halls before so I know it's not unprecedented but I'd imagine a lot of people might find the dichotomy between fancy meal and cacophonous food hall mismatched. The service and flavors do make up for it though, as I've found myself here twice now and would easily say yes to going back. I went from being someone who meticulously researched every course of every meal before deciding to venture to a restaurant, to someone who is now alright with being surprised, so I don't want to tell you too much. Here's a little taste: Cacio e pepe pudding to whet the appetite, the likes of everything salmon, torched squid, lobster foam, and charred scallop, and many of these bites served atop inari-- sweet tofu skin. It really works, and I find myself regularly fantasizing about the ebi bite. I'll keep an eye out for when this Michelin starred chef reopens his other restaurant, Joomak Banjum in a new location soon.
I took my fiance here for his birthday dinner last week and enjoyed our experience! The restaurant is located inside a food court. We had a 7:30 RSVP and were seated at the counter immediately. We both got the Chef Studio Tasting at $135 and ordered a bottle of sake to share. We started with the poached oyster which was good. Then moved on to the Madai which was amazing. They used apple (instead of watermelon which was written on the menu) and had a citrusy foam that I loved. The next dish was cooked scallop with a gochujang crisp. The crisp was so good! On to the Yubu tasting - I personally love inari and always get this at buffets haha. I liked all of the 4 we were given but felt the taste of the inari flavor took away from the pieces. Regardless, all delish bites! For the next course, we were given toro tartare with seaweed crisps. There was no fillet mignon to be seen (also written in the menu) though I heard the party next to us ask about this and the chef said they were out of it. This was still a tasty course. The lobster carpaccio and crabmeat risotto were also good bites. My fiance has a slight crab allergy so they replaced his with a truffle risotto that was delicious. The last two courses were a anago toast and a truffle wagyu taco. Both good. We ended our meal with a refreshing earl grey ice cream and even got extra since it was the end of the night! They also gave us two coconut macarons Overall a good meal but keep in mind some inconsistencies with the menu. I would've appreciated knowing ahead of time what would be swapped/excluded.
I read a blog about great places to eat in Chelsea, and DDOBAR specifically piqued my interest. I was looking for a different foodie experience, and what really caught my attention was DDOBAR being a Korean omakase. I also appreciated the affordability. It was $75 for the lunch menu, which I felt was a steal. I've never been to the Olly Olly market, so it was cool exploring the establishment and seeing what other restaurants it had to offer. DDOBAR was very casual and unassuming, but you get a full blown 11-course meal. I made reservations for 12pm on a Saturday. Initially I had made a reservation for 3 then had to update my reservation for 2. We did end up having a 3rd person show up, and we're so grateful that DDOBAR was able to accommodate our friend after all. We unanimously enjoyed the overall experience - from the service to presentation to food. The flavor combinations were indeed unique, and I loved the yubutarts (sweet tofu rice bags) used as the bed of the nigiri fish. Almost every course we tried, one of the 3 of us would say, "I could eat 5 of those." Even the cacio e pepe, which I've read some Yelpers' aversion to, was a hit among the 3 of us. I felt that we had the perfect amount of food; I didn't feel uncomfortably stuffed nor under fed.

Located inside the food hall in Chelsea, DDOBAR provides a very casual prefix meal experience. The $75 prefix menu came with 13 bites to try and I felt satiated after the meal. There isn't much of a waitstaff here as they leave a container of water for you at your seat. read more

I tried out a new food hall in the city called Olly Olly New York. I've been wanting to go here for a bit and overall had a really enjoyable experience. I tried Yubu Tart. Very innovative Korean food. DDOBAR was awarded a Michelin star this year. We got original egg, pork belly, scallops, lobster and a cucumber salad. They are yubu tarts. I've never had anything like this before but I loved every one I tried. Delicious! Overall a really great food hall which I feel like will get even better next year. read more

The Korean style omakase, very interesting dining experience in the food court. It is a hidden gem in the olly olly market, the chef is from joomak (Michelin star restaurant), and here only cost $75 to try the tasting menu. Definitely worth to come and enjoy the night with cool crews. The omakase not limited in the Japanese and Korea style but also the French fine dinning skill. The ingredients are fresh and delicious, specially the botan ebi (shrimp) even rarer to find in the traditional omakase place. Will come back for spring menu. read more

DDOBAR is located in the new olly olly market and is open all day, but I went for the omakase. Every bite I took here was delicious. The courses were timed perfectly even when I started getting really full and slowing down, which is just one of the benefits of having the chefs cooking everything right in front of you. Loved the counter set up for that. Shout out to the diversity of the kitchen staff, too. Speaking of the chefs, I forgot to ask his name but the chef/owner was extremely friendly and you could tell he was super proud of his food--and for good reason. It tasted great, it was inventive, it was fun, and I cannot believe the value. 13 courses of quality ingredients for $70 and a 15 dollar caviar supplement? I mean come on. I suggest you run here because unfortunately I have a feeling that there's no way a deal that good can last forever lols. My blanc de blancs was a perfect pairing for this meal--dry and bubbly to wash everything down. Will definitely be back with friends who are sometimes reluctant to drop tons of money on tasting menus with me! read more
Absolutely incredible meal at Ddobar! I was very impressed, everything was so creative and downright delicious. Almost feels like it is slightly under priced for the experience. Highlights include the Galbi add on, which is those gorgeous tender beef and the salmon piece was lovely. I look forward to seeing if they change the menu seasonally. I can feel a Michelin star in their future! As for the location, it's kind of super far out west, so difficult to get to, but the olly olly market is cute and feels like a fancy food market. We did the Chef's Tasting Menu at Ddobar. It was so delicious and each piece was stunning- really a piece of art! It was in the pricey side ($135 pp) for the setting but they really used fresh ingredients. It was nice that the chef would check in and made small talk. One of the issues was the time between courses. We sat down at 8pm and we didn't leave till 1045/50. We didn't eat beforehand and got really hungry waiting for the next course. Another issue was their listed menus online. I do wish they listed information on the different menus and the different costs since they only list the $75 menu on their website and Resy. read more

This was one of the most surprisingly wonderful meals! The Food Excellent - The Service Excellent Ambience Funky unexpected but fun! My daughter found this newer Omakase only restaurants (sort of a nice food counter in the Olly Olly market Arts building on way W 26th St in Chelsea. After finding the place (they need better signage) we sat down to a great Chef's tasting. This is Omakase only - 2 choices one for $75 one for $135. Small menu differences. We had the $135 one. It was a good deal of 13 Lovely courses! Sort of Pan Korean Japanese style tastings. Actually many items served were larger then typical omakase servings. Go a bit hungry . The range of flavors + textures hot + cold really worked. At one point I thought I needed something warm alas it came out! 2 of the items just didnt for me but out of 13 thats OK! Neither were bad. The counter service was lovely. The chef came to ask how we were doing. We were asked how the pace of the courses were + if we wanted to slow down. Theres also a nice wine list. I found a favorite Sicilian white that I dont see alot of. The single wine glass cost was on the high side. All in all a great evening with great food in an unexpected place. Truly an incredible meal!! Their set menus are a fusion of Korean and Japanese with such exquisite flavors. They have 2 options - the yubu tart tasting for $75 and the chef studio for $135. Very affordable for the quality. We went with the chef studio. I really enjoyed a few of them in particular: - Salmon with everything bagel: I love salmon lox bagels and this was like an elevated bite of smoked salmon with the everything but bagel seasoning on the outside of the salmon - Eel with spicy pork BBQ: wow oh wow if you love spicy pork Korean bbq flavors, this was eel with the same flavors. I've never seen this done like this before - Lobster with Kombu: one of the best of the set menu. The lobster was sweet and tender, a buttery flavor. I was in love!! My friend who came with me usually doesn't eat raw fish and sushi, but she was willing to check it out and just fell in love! The only dish that wasn't a favorite was the duck with the pickled kimchee. It was overly pickled sour like a pickle from a jar rather than kimchee. We gave the chef feedback and he was very receptive. Overall, the meal for the price was totally worth it and memorable. Some dishes as I mentioned were super incredible. It was a unique experience and we would come back hands down!!! The ambiance is in an upscale food court vibe. However, this is more like an omakase counter with the chef coming and explaining each dish. And, two tables for larger parties on the side. I didn't even notice it was in a food court. My friend and I went for the Chef's Tasting Studio menu to get more variety. Part of this menu included the yubu tart tasting as well, so I'm glad we chose this option! The seating counter is in the middle of a food hall -- during the night, it's quiet and intimate enough to talk to who you come with, otherwise I didn't 100% love the vibe. But it was easy to forget the rest of the space when you're eating. I'd rate this place a 4.5/5. All the dishes on the chef's studio menu was amazing. I would say that the pieces I didn't like were actually from the yubu tart tasting. I just wasn't a fan of the flavor combinations. Otherwise, the rest of the tasting was soooo good. I tried Joomak Banjum first and was expecting a similar style of pastry-like dishes, but this was so different. I feel like Ddobar focuses on more Korean flavors. My friend and I finished completely stuffed to the brim. At the end, we had a wonderful earl grey softserve that really tied up the meal. If I could bring home a tub of the ice cream, I would. The service was excellent. The chefs were kind and explained the menu well. They were inviting and you could tell they loved what they do. We are a group of 5 people who recently had the dining experience at DDOBAR but were disappointed with the oversight. The Wagyu Taco was supposed to have truffles, but they were missing. I shared this feedback through the restaurant website but never received a response, which felt dismissive. Acknowledging customer feedback would go a long way in enhancing the overall experience. Located at the center of the Olly Olly Market. It is a fancy food court, so there may be ambient noise. No one's Japanese, so I'm not going to call it Inari and I won't call it YUBU cause that's the name of another place. They serve elevated little fried tofu pockets and then some. We wanted to try both Yubu Tart Tasting and the Chef Studio Tasting but it was rejected since it would disrupt the pacing. Shucks, we opted for the Chef Studio Tasting with the supplements. In hindsight, the uni and truffle were not necessary. It's like the cherry on top of a sundae. The food was already so good I would inhale it either way. I wish I enjoyed it as much as the savant we were sitting next to. It was like a crossover between You're Not Yelping and The Menu. The chefs maintained their professionalism and were cordial. They answered her flurry of questions and thanked her for her multitude of praise. It was also interesting to watch them alter their menu to accommodate another couple's dietary restrictions ,so there is no need to shy away if you are allergic or anything like that. The menu was more of an outline. They used various culinary techniques to accentuate the main ingredient and modified the dishes to highlight different features throughout the course. This is what one would expect when having Omakase and it was executed excellently. The grape foam was tasty, as was the brown butter sauce. Galbi was good, but I can see some people finding it a tad rare. The crab meat risotto was rich, unlike me when I left the place. All jokes aside, I would recommend, ddobar. read more

The experience was great. Just as the comments say even though it's inside a food hall, if you go after closing hours you have the place for yourselves. It no longer feels like you are in the food hall. Things get quiet and you can enjoy the company. Delicious food, the service was impeccable. You were told what you were going to have, asked for allergies, recommended wine and sake. While everything was delicious I was a sucker for the ice cream! I asked for seconds! Do go and enjoy it, both prices are worth it. read more

From the team behind Joomak Banjum, DDOBAR is situated in the new Olly Olly food hall in Chelsea. We went on a Friday night around 8pm and the entire food hall was empty except for two "booths" that were open, including this one. So definitely do not feel the need to dress up, very casual is the vibe here. Most of the seating is bar, but recommend the high-top seats over the lower ones because those chairs are super low and the lower table comes to your chest almost which felt odd. So would come in a group of 2. There were two round tables off to the side for larger groups, which only one was filled when we went. However, the food was fantastic. $75 for three starters, 8 yubu, a chicken course, and the delicious tomato ice cream. We opted for the galbi supplement because we were still a little hungry at the end. We also got some sake, and they have four options to choose from. The meal is definitely bang for your buck. Ddobar is a strong 4.2 in my eyes. The food is amazing and quite creative for the most part (we'll get to that later), but the service was a bit hit or miss (though everyone was generally friendly) and even though I knew the vibe was more "food court," that's something to consider when you're thinking of booking for a special experience. I came in knowing the vibe was more relaxed and that the emphasis would be on the food, so the location didn't bother me as much. I'm grateful they didn't charge us a cancellation fee for our two friends who didn't show up, which is a plus. Service: Everyone was generally friendly and attentive, so this is more commentary on how certain situations could have been better handled. There were three things that sort of rubbed me the wrong way. (1) When I first came with my husband to sit down, I chose the elevated seating because I had read reviews that the lower seating could be a little awkward and difficult to see the kitchen. I was originally told I could pick any seating, but then they changed their mind and made us move to the lower seating saying that the elevated seating was reserved for others. I chalked it up to the fact that we were supposed to be a party of 4 but were now 2. Later on, however, other pairs of 2 came, and they were allowed to sit wherever they wanted. The two elevated seats I had first chosen remained empty the entirety of our meal. (2) We asked for green tea and they didn't explain that it would be coming in tea pots per person. If we knew this, my husband would've ordered a different tea so that we could have variety. We also asked for hot water, but I think they got busy and forgot so my husband had to ask again. (Normally not a big deal as I get how tough the service industry can be, but just an added irritant to everything else.) (3) if you are celebrating a birthday, they don't do anything particularly special to differentiate the experience. I don't mind, but I know others may care, so thought it was worth mentioning. Food: We did the yubutart tasting which was more than enough food for both of us, but we had also had a small snack beforehand so weren't super hungry. They have a new chef tasting with more courses that I'd like to try in the future. The standouts for me were the scallop, botan ebi with egg and ikura, salmon with everything bagel, lobster, and beef tartare. Honestly, almost the whole menu was a hit, so it's really difficult to even say that one thing was "better" than the other. The only two items I felt could have been elevated were the chicken and the melona, which was unfortunate as they were the last two courses. I've made spicy gojuchang chicken before at home, and it tasted basically like what I've made at home before. The almond didn't come through as much as I expected it to. It was still really tasty; just not something new to me. As for the melona, I love melona and loved that it was on the menu as dessert. It's a childhood favorite of mine, so there's some nostalgia. I can see what they were trying to do with the crispy prosciutto and making something a light sweet/salty taste, but I don't think it quite hit. Because the prosciutto was mixing with the coldness of the melona, some bits were very hard on the teeth to chew. In addition, some of the saltiness was lost and was definitely overpowered by the melona. I kind of preferred having the melona by itself at that point. I think if they had something else a bit softer, or even put small sprinkles of salt on top, that would've come through better. I was wondering if rice krispies would work better than the crispy prosciutto. Again, still yummy, so this is just a small comment on how to maybe make it a bit better. P.s. If you are thinking of upgrading the hiramasa with caviar, I personally don't think the caviar is worth the upgrade in this case as the hiramasa was balanced very well and would've tasted just as great without the caviar, which was more muted by the hiramasa flavors. Overall, I'd definitely come again because the food was generally 5/5, flavorful and delicious. I'm hopeful the service misses were more a result of the circumstances and that my next time is a more seamless experience! read more

The strong sweetness from tofu skin overpowered the fish itself that the flavor didn't really come through. Ddobar was one of my favorite new restaurant experiences in 2023. For a very affordable $75 Chef Studio Menu, you receive 13 courses w/ a couple of supplements if you so choose. And an added bonus to this dining experience is the ability to interact with the chefs. You're seated at the counter surrounding the small open kitchen and can chat w/ the chefs, which I really liked. A majority of the courses are Yubutarts (fried tofu pockets w/ rice and unique topping combinations), so keep that in mind if you have a soy allergy this is certainly not a restaurant for you. I'm sure the menu is seasonal and may change but some of my favorites were the: salmon, duck pastrami and braised pork belly. I also really liked the butter poached lobster. We ordered the galbi ($15 supplement) which we really liked - tender (on the rarer side which we prefer) and delicious with the jang. Overall, it was a fun, delicious dining experience that felt unpretentious and upscale at the same time. It doesn't break the bank either. I'd return! read more

I'm glad we were able to find this place before it blows up. It's an 11 course Korean omakase and every dish was great. It's rare that there isn't at least one average course. Our favorites included the scallops with brown butter dashing sauce, salmon with everything bagel and duck pastrami. Service was very good and the only downside is the (lack of) ambiance eating in a food hall. However for the price and quality, that is easily overlooked. It's a winner! read more

The most bang for your buck in all of New York. We were blown away by the service, the people, the atmosphere, and most importantly: THE FOOD! They do not play games in that small, 6 person kitchen. It has all the flavor, all the quality, and all the preciseness of top notch tasting menus all over the city. Our favorites were the ebi, pork belly, scallop, and duck. But every dish gave us pause. They're currently developing a more "adventurous" menu and I'm hoping to come back soon to try it! read more

Came by with two school friends and, of course, brought along my hubby T.H. We opted for the later seating as we had plans throughout the day and were pleasantly surprised to have a quiet intimate experience at what is normally a pretty busy asian dining hall/cafeteria. Ddobar is inside the Olly Olly Market has a space in the rear middle with counter seats on 3 of the 4 faces which allows for a good amount of seating and a fun experience (dinner and a show!). We opted for the omakase with the expanded menu and had a great time. Unlike normal omakase sushi experiences, ddobar uses a stuff tofu skin underneath its sushi grade seafood to add an extra depth of flavor, texture, and sometimes heat or sweetness. Our meal started with a lovely savory flan which hit all the right umami notes of a well done corned beef/pastrami then progressed to a beautifully balanced Hamachi with apple foam. A warmed butternut squash and scallop dish followed and balanced the sweetness of both the scallop and the butternut squash. Topped with a crispy sage leaf, this was a hit with everyone in our party. We then moved onto 4 very flavorful, creative, and balanced sashimi dishes which took us on an adventure to Scandinavia, Asia, New York, and Pacifica. A risotto before the lobster, pork, truffles, and beef kept our bellies warm before we finished in the true Korean fashion with noodles and a wonderful earl Grey and sea salt ice cream. We overall had a great experience here and will definitely return. Highly recommend to take them time to visit. read more

This hidden gem with counter seating is located inside of a food hall in Olly Olly market. They recently started doing a tasting menu, centered around Yubu Tarts, which are little fried tofu pouches with rice inside and various toppings. The most memorable pieces were the seared scallops with brown butter dashi, tuna tataki yubu handroll and the duck pastrami with housemade chili oil. The chefs were so friendly and I thought each course was super unique and flavorful. The meal ends with an amazing earl grey soft serve ice cream. I thought that $75 for 13 courses +$15 Galbi was super reasonable especially with how much detail and thought they put into each dish. read more

DDOBAR takes away any pretentiousness that is associated with "prixe-fix" or omakase. It's located in Olly Olly market, and is quite loud, not just from the music but also others in the open space. For $75 and 13 courses, DDOBAR is truly a fun experience, from their lively staff and easy interactions with the Chefs, to having yubu focused pieces, makes them stand out from other omakase places. The combination of sticky sweetness of the tofu pockets with fish, fresh vegetables, is sensational and every bite is a surprise. The earl grey ice cream at the end was the perfect finisher. It was also my friend's birthday, and the Chef kindly prepared a slice of chocolate cake even though it was last minute notice. We had a lot of fun and am looking forward to coming back! read more

I heard about this place on Eater--omkase tasting menu in a food hall! The Olly Olly Market food hall is newish, located in the Starrett-Lehigh Building on the western fringe of Chelsea, past the HighLine. Martha Stewart Omnimedia used to have offices (and a coffee bar) here. The Market seems to cater to local workers; it is closed on weekends, although DdoBar is now open Saturday evenings. DdoBar is open in the evenings well past all the other vendors. DdoBar primarily serves a $75 13-14-course "Chef Studio Menu" at their chef's counter. The chef/owner Jiho Kim also runs the fancy Michelin starred Joomak Banjum Korean tasting menu restaurant near the Empire State Building. DdoBar also has tables, but I don't know what function they serve. Bookings at the chef's counter are staggered through lunch and dinner hours. The night I went, the first dinner seating was at 7:30 (vs. the usual 5:30) because they were hosting a private event which ran long (they were using the aforementioned tables), so things were a bit disorganised at first for us regular diners. There were 13 of us at the 7:30 seating, with 3 other parties arriving later. Chef Kim and another young Korean man were the lead hosts, sommeliers, primary servers, food preparers, plate clearers, bill settlers, etc. In other words, they did everything, helped by a cook (and occasional food preparer and server), another food/plate preparer, and a dishwasher--5 total staff. Being in the healthcare field, I couldn't help but notice the staff multitasking with their hands without the use of gloves or many hand tools like tweezers. The menu, which I don't think changes much, was composed of 3 composed dishes (cacio e pepe, cured bass, seared scallop), followed by 8 Yubu tart selections (one was a handroll) presented sushi-style, complete with a hand towel and lemon slice. Yubuchobap is the Korean version of Japanese inari, dehydrated fried tofu filled with sushi rice. My favourite toppings were the lobster and duck pastrami. Next was a BBQ chicken skewer (tasty but undercooked) and an optional ($15) beef Galbi course that I highly recommend. Everyone finishes with Earl Grey ice cream. Overall a delicious and fun experience. Some of the other Olly Olly vendors looked interesting as well, but close much earlier than DdoBar. read more

Skimming through the other reviews and the reviews on social media, this will probably be a hot take, but I wasn't as impressed with this place as everyone else it seems. Came here with my sister for dinner because her foodie friend recommended it, but I didn't expect for it to be in a food court/market type place. I get that this is the vibe of food court, but I just wasn't a fan of the open space concept...however for the price point of $75 for 13 courses, I really shouldn't complain. The food was good, very unique for a tasting menu. I've definitely never tried anything like it before but some of the dishes were too....experimental imo. I wasn't a fan of the cacio e pepe, botan ebi, or the salmon with everything bagel seasoning (?), though I should note that my sister did enjoy the salmon. My favorites were the seared scallop, duck pastrami, and the earl grey ice cream. Total bill came out at ~$200 (pre-tip) between the two of us with one glass of red wine each. Definitely a solid tasting menu option but just not a great fit with my palette. read more

My co-worker raved about this being her favorite omakase in the city, so we came for her birthday dinner. I felt like there were a lot of things that Ddobar didn't do that well that other similarly priced omakase spots nail. Firstly, their timing is really off. Sometimes we waited for a quite a while for the next round. They also completely forgot our spoons for dessert and we were just sitting there and looking around trying to flag someone down. Finally, someone in my party had to go up and ask a chef for our spoons. I also thought they would do a little more for our friend who was celebrating a birthday, but they just stuck a candle onto the dessert and called it a day. A lot of my co-workers and I were puzzled at some of the pieces and the flavors, so it definitely isn't one of my most favorite omakases in the city. If I could give 0 stars I would. While this restaurant has good quality ingredients, they have completely wasted those ingredients. There's too much going on the plate. When you arrive, you stand around not knowing who to talk to because it's a complete mess. Everyone is running around like a chicken without a head. The plating is beautiful sure...and thats where it ends. No one attends to your drinks or looks to see if they can make your experience better. It's honestly a shame because I wanted to like it but it's like watching a high end/quality anything get put through a meat grinder and then topped with a nice piece of garnish. Never again. Don't come here unless you have 2.5 hours to kill and have lost your tastebuds. read more

My wife and I had an amazing experience here and I would strongly recommend going. We loved that we were able to see everything being prepared and Chef Kim and his team make the whole experience fun while at the same time making top notch, extremely creative dishes. The counter seating makes dining entertaining and we really enjoyed the tasting menu. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. High quality products for a decent price. I tried the Yubu tart Chef Studio Menu (see all the items in the pics), a 12 item menu for $75. There is an option to also include Golden Osettra Caviar and Galbi for extra $15 each. In my opinion, the Yubu tart menu is actually good enough. Actually, my favourite items were the SEARED SCALLOP with Ramen soup, the DUCK PASTRAMI and the BRAISED PORK BELLY, but feel free to try the extra if you feeling fancy and hungry. Drank sparkling wine based on restaurant recommendation and pairs well with all the items. (Remember, prices do not include taxes and tips) ESPAÑOL: Recomiendo este restaurante definitivamente. An outstanding meal and even more exceptional value. We had the Yubutart tasting menu and every course was a winner. Loved the playful reimagining of classic dishes: cacio e pepe, everything bagel and lox, duck pastrami, melon and prosciutto. Not only were these dishes creative but delicious in and of themselves. I agree with other reviewers that the use of yubuchobap in every sushi dish adds a constant note of the sweet fried tofu that distracts a little from the other components, but the sushi is still really good. We will definitely return the next time we're in NYC to try the chef studio tasting menu, but it will be hard to beat the value of what we had tonight. read more
