We stopped in for dinner on a Friday evening, and the restaurant was relatively quiet. We were seated right away and the service throughout the night was friendly and welcoming. To start, we ordered the Mantu, which were really good--nicely made dumplings with a great mix of flavors. For my main, I had the Quabili Pallow. It came with a generous portion of rice topped with very moist, tender lamb along with carrots and raisins. The dish wasn't heavily seasoned, but it still had a really nice balance of flavors and was very satisfying. I also ordered tea, which was excellent and paired well with the meal. I don't usually leave reviews, but I feel compelled to share my experience. The food at this restaurant was average at best, but the worst part is that when I accidentally paid a tip when they already charged 18% service charge. I politely brought it up and asked the server to redo it, she made it appear that she had corrected it but it end up not reflecting on my credit card charges. The lady server also appeared annoyed and dismissive. It felt like we were being taken advantage of, not treated as valued customers. For what we paid, we expected quality, service, and transparency -- and received none of the above. There are far better options nearby that won't leave you feeling ripped off. Pretty average Afghan food. This place used to be known for having the best Afghan food around but not so much anymore. just pay attention as they charge extra 2 bucks for credit card usage and make sure you check your bill because they automatically charge gratuity for groups and then ask you to leave extra tip even though they have already charged the tip without mentioning it (slick guys). The place nickel and dimes customers which is a pretty embarrassing for them. Their chutney is apparently made of gold so they are extra stingy with it. I have ordered numerous times for pickup and food has never been ready at the designated time for pickup - always "5 more minutes". I'm pretty sure they don't even start on the order until you get there. On the positive side, they do have a decent dining area to take guests out to eat and it never gets busy inside. Overall, skip this place as there are plenty of other options nearby to dine with the family. This place is a hidden gem-clean, nicely decorated, with friendly/attentive service and the food was exceptional! Rich in taste, savory, aromatic and the portions were large. We started with the Bolani with potato. A light pastry with yogurt and chutney, I was thinking a middle Eastern quesadilla as a description. The serving size would be a meal in itself. A nice precursor to my entree. I'd recommend the kabob plate with tikka, beef and ground sirloin. It was accompanied with rice and chopped cucumbers with bits of onion. Celebrating my brother in law's birthday we decided to have a dinner at De Afghanan. Gets a bit tricky on google maps to locate it if you miss the right turn though not that big of a challenge. Good enough parking spots though can get a bit squishy in there. Once we got in our host for the evening was Amanullah and he got us to our table by the window and got us our menus and had us seated just fine. We started with some tea and he brought along a chickpea mini dish of sorts that tasted amazing with the cilantro sauce. Got going with our appetizers and an order for Mantu and Bodinjon Borani. Pretty impressed must say with the mantu and it got swept off the serving plate in no time. Borani was tasty as well and we took our time with it enjoying the flavor. For our main course we ordered a plate of Lamb Kabob with white rice , Quabili Pallow, Triple Kabob and Combination Kabob with Brown rice , carrot and raisins. Can't say enough about the kabobs , the marination, the actual grilling and all aspects that must have gone into making these must have been absolutely to the point. Amazing taste and we kept talking about these all evening long. Quabili pallow had the lamb just perfectly done and tasted amazing. We ended the evening with an order of Baklava and Firni which again came out just perfect and complemented tea along with them. Great food, great service, great host made our evening special. ****BE ADVISED SCREW FOUND IN FOOD**** In good faith, I chose to hold off on this review but with how this was addressed once we contacted the restaurant of this mishap was unfortunate. I ordered Chapli kebab to-go and found a dirty screw partially wedged inside my chapli kebab. I noticed the screw once I started cutting into the meat. This is not my first time doing business with this specific restaurant so I was shocked with what we found. Restaurant stated "we apologize and will make you free food next time you visit". We no longer wanted to do business here with what we found and how this could've turned out if this was ingested. We drove to the restaurant showed them the plate and they offered PARTIAL REFUND. I do not condone or like bashing small businesses but this is something that needs to be addressed and corrected considering the compensation in return was a partial refund in return for a terrifying takeout experience. read more

This reviews is based on the overall experience of In dining. After a 6 mile hike we decided to give this place a try. Empty when we entered so got our pick of sitting. Choosing the lovely Toshak setting they provide over traditional chairs. The area was clean and comfortable along with a bathroom to match. We ordered our food but never got water till we asked for it. There was also construction next door so it was loud bangs here and there. But once food arrived all that didn't matter. Everything was delicious, flavorful and fulfilling. The humus keeps popping up in my head very memorable. Take a chance on this place you'll be surprised. My partner loves Afghan food, and the past 3-4 years we've been eating here. Every single time they're very impolite and inconsiderate of their customers. The tall Siah post guy thinks he's the only human or server on earth and he can disrespect you directly no matter how respectful you're being. We continued our business because of good food and who cares about their serves behavior since it's so obvious and forever type of thing. As of very recent experience, the food was 2/10, I've always had Mantu here and loved it, but today it was the worst I've ever had. Very rubbery and bitter tasting dry, barely any daal or gashniz whatsoever. Qabuli Pulao was STINKY and zero spice, at least cook the shank with basic spices so the smell is bearable and there's anything to taste besides plain stinky meat. Rice was undercooked and no effort to garnish the plate with cilantro or a side of salad if possible. THE ONLY thing that was good was the green chatni itself while the Yogurt was like a month old type of thing. Is the owner actually AWARE of what's happening at this location? We came here for the first time. The food is good but the service is terrible. This is a restaurant and their only job is to serve and if they cant do that, better not work here. There was a birthday party and two big tables were full of guests. And While we were sitting one person came and asked if they had "room for one person" and the server who thinks he knows english better than anyone else replied " we have tables not rooms". This person sat at the table and asked no one attended him or welcomed him- he left. We ordered a bunch of combo items which are supposed to be served with their bread and potatoe salad. They did not serve us that. This restaurant really needs more than one server. We had ordered our food 30 mins prior to arrival. When we arrived we felt very rushed. We ordered 3 plates and my son did not get any water. We did not receive any of the complimentary potato salad either when the people across from us did. So I tried my best to be fair here. The servers and the owner are awfully rude. They totally lack even basic human interaction skills. If I am paying their bills (being a customer), I expect AT LEAST no bad behavior (leave good behavior aside for a minute). They don't even want to serve. I consciously have them 3 chances before writing a review, tested their food quality for 80-90% of dishes on their menu, and came on different days to validate that how bad they are is consistent experience! Guess what, they are super consistent in being bad. I gave them 3 ratings to atmosphere only because no other Afghan restaurant in tracy has this much sitting space. Hygiene and cleanliness?? Oh forget it. Now let's talk about food which I have 3 ... again only because couple of their dishes were decent or good category but majority were just about the same or worse than any other Afghan place I have been to. Now let's talk service (which doesn't exist at all). They refused to give us plates because we were 20 people in the party. Heck you ready it right!!! They refused! Why? You may be thinking they may have ran out. That's what we thought too but then realized it was only our group and perhaps 2 more families of 4 each sitting in the restaurant at that time. It turned out, that they simply didn't like the fact that we were larger in number (booking some 3 weeks in advance). They not only misbehaved but also canceled our pre ordered dessert. When asked, why they took our order 3 weeks in advance? They responded we are not answerable. Upon insistence for utensils as we weren't going to be able to eat food, they finally agreed to give us one more plate! YES! It was indeed that bad. No dramatization at all. In fact we were being nice enough to eat there despite all this chaos. Why? Coz it was Sunday evening and we knew no other place would be available to accommodate the size of our group on such short notice (which is why we had pre ordered 3 weeks in advance). Look, if despite this review you want to visit them, be my guest! But I'll be honestly watching them that how long would it be before they go out of business. This place is not that easy to find, it's located in the same complex as Squeeze Burger, not far from the Mall. We came on a Thursday night and there were 3 other tables. The food took a while to come, so just be prepared. We each got a chicken pea and potato appetizer, but I didn't eat much because it was super sour. We got: *Potato Bolani ($9.99, 3.5 stars) - I've discovered that all Bolani comes with large portions :) however, this was definitely the biggest I've seen (see picture). We've had it for 3 meals already, and there is still 1/3 left. The Bolani is pretty blend, so it's a good food to eat with dips or meat. *Chaplee combo (4.5 stars) - Chaplee is ground meat (usually beef) formed in thin patties and seasoned with chili flakes and other spices. The version here was delicious because of the crispy browned edges. I would stuff a small piece inside the Bolani and dipped it in yogurt sauce. *Kabuli pallow (3.5 stars) - This is one of my favorite Afghan dishes, a traditional dish with tender shank of lamb buries under a mountain of seasoned basmati rice with raisins and carrots. This dish lacks some deep flavors, but the lamb shank was very tender, and there was a little bone marrow in the bone. Yum! read more

There was a time where I used to love this place! They always served the best kabobs and sides. I've noticed the past few times I've ordered takeout from here the kabobs are extremely small. I will post a picture next time if I drop by here again. I truly believe they have cut the normal size kabob into half. So you're getting 3 normal sized kabobs but cut into half which is 6 kabobs. That is wrong on so many levels! It is not worth the price or time to order from here. Not only is the kabobs extremely small but it's also burnt. Go someplace else! Find another Afghani restaurant where they actually serve you the regular size kabobs unfortunately this place used to be great but not anymore!
