Excellent cocktails! The bartender, Jonathan, was a great mixologist. He delivered three unique hand crafted cocktails that were catered to our preference. Don't bother making a reservation, it will not make a difference in getting a table. They tried to sit us next to the wall or in the corner by the bathroom at the tiniest table in the walkway. There were multiple tables with only one person sat at each, who all looked like they just walked off the beach and took all the main dining tables. So if you do want to try it, come earlier or maybe just sit at the bar. This place is pricier than others and they aren't reliable for reservations like some of the other established spots, so for that reason won't be back. We ended up having a drink at the bar and left to have dinner somewhere else. 2 stars for the amazing drinks at the bar, they are about 180 pesos each. read more

I arrived at my reservation time was a single diner who ate here last week and was impressed. Tonight a whole different story. I was seated , ordered a large bottle of sparkling water, the water came and I asked for limes, big mistake or they had to grow the tree, 20 minutes later I finally asked the hostess for help. The tortilla soup came( by the hostess(where is the waiter?) I couldn't eat the tortilla soup it was tomato soup with some add in's. 45 minutes and I'm waiting for my steak...... Steak came right as I was writing and from there the food and service improved. The filet Mignon was cooked correctly and the sauce was delicious. The mashed potatoes looked like a kid had finger painted them on the plate with a Brussels sprout as the fingers. Had an early lunch here and loved it. We ordered the Octopus, carne asada plate, shrimp and octopus tacos. Highly recommend! All the food was well seasoned and absolutely delicious. The service was extremely attentive and our waiter Alejandro was one of the best servers I've had. He paid attention to detail and was so kind. On our trip to PV we found this place on a Friday. It was so good we came back again on Sunday before our trip was over. Every person working was very helpful and friendly. If you check my reviews I don't usually give bad reviews...we ended up splitting the molcajete which was ok nothing special and also comes with no sides (rice or beans) when 9-10 they do. When we sat down we asked host to please put us by a fan because obviously it's hot AF in Vallarta lol , well she did but the tan was facing her not us and when we where ready to leave another party sat by us then she turned the fan their way smh. Fantastic! We spent an evening here enjoying a cocktail and a bottle of wine with dinner. Lovely ambiance and the service was superb. The food. Oh my gosh THE FOOD. We started with the rose' mussels. Absolutely divine. We both were scooping the broth with our spoons, so well done. The spinach salad was the perfect amount for two, crispy sweet nuts really stood out on this salad. I had the filet. Creamy, delicious and cooked to perfection over a wood fire, each bite had a slight smoke flavor. My companion had the ribeye. Also cooked to perfection over a wood fire, the chef is skilled at this place, they know what they are doing with meat. We selected them for seafood, only to find lobster was out of season. Our bad there. We chose the A/C enclosed area over the open air dining for comfort reasons. The waitstaff was very attentive. I chose an aged ribeye for dinner. I can't say it was the best I've ever had, but it was prepared to the correct temperature and properly seasoned. My wife had the octopus, which she enjoyed. Wine list was limited, but that's not unexpected. The manager stopped by to check on our progress several times. Overall, I'd definitely eat there again. read more

Absolutely and easily one of my favorite restaurants in PV! First tried this place on a tacos & tequila tour and had to go back the next day because it was just that good. Let me tell you that the shrimp tacos with the sauces they have paired with it are to die for! So much flavor packed into one bite. I also tried their fish tacos which were easily the second best on their menu. So soft and made to perfection. Not to mention, their drinks are top notch and we're never lacking in flavor. Honestly, anything on their menu is probably good. Walked out of that restaurant so full and sooo happy. The atmosphere and environment is great as well. Don't pass this place up! read more

My husband and I were vacationing in PV, and signed up for a tacos and tequilas tour. DeCantaro was one of our stops, we had a phenomenal cocktail and shrimp taco. We decided to revisit, for dinner the next night. Our second experience was disappointing to say the least. We made an Open Table reservation, which the staff couldn't locate, and the restaurant was practically empty, so not sure that we needed to make a reservation. The initial encounter was very awkward, as if the staff was surprised to have customers. We were seated in the air conditioned area, and a complimentary order of hummus and tortillas chips were delivered to our table. Hummus was an odd option, and it was just ok. The chips were stale. We ordered margaritas, which were served with a sprig of rosemary, which the server lit, table side....that was odd too. We ordered the shrimp tacos as an appetizer, and they were as tasty, as we remembered from the tour. For entrees, my husband ordered the tomahawk pork chop and mashed potatoes. I ordered the grilled shrimp, with jasmine rice and assorted veggies. Our food arrived a short time later. The pork chop was sliced and placed awkwardly throughout the potatoes, gravy served on the side. The shrimp was tasty, but lukewarm, and they were a little bit dry. A little lemon and olive oil would have made a big difference. The rice was uneventful. The veggies were the best item on the plate, baby squash, zucchini, brussel sprouts, cauliflower and broccoli. There were also pea shoots, and dried corn kernel, which were not necessary. The plate was also drizzled with 2-3 sauces, and there was also a side of sauce. My husband asked for extra napkins. For some reason we had white paper napkins, the surrounding tables had black cloth napkins. The server returned with extra napkins for my husband only, I had to wave him down, to get extra napkins for myself. The entire experience was AWKWARD, and the food was over executed, I would not return. read more

The food is amazing. The octopus was soft, tender, fluffy and so flavorful. The rib eye tacos were so nice. Fatty cut with great sauces on the tortilla. A Sh*t Show of failure on almost every level. This restaurant has prime real estate on Basílio Badillo and I have walked by it dozens of times and wondered why it's always empty. Now I know why. They got one thing right - there is an extremely charming and personable young lady standing at the door hawking customers. She's lovely and very friendly, but don't be fooled. Ambiance - C minus. Despite trying to position themselves as a fine dining establishment, they have big screen TVs hung in every corner that play soccer incessantly. Guess what, fine dining and big screen TVs don't mix. Big screen TV's are for a sports bars. And the entertainment seems intended for the staffs' benefit, not customers. Other than juveniles, Americans really don't care that much about soccer. Food quality - F minus. I ate the salad (which was ok) but the filet mignon (which I had ordered almost one hour prior) was raw, unbelievably tough and I'm not sure it even was fillet, or beef for that matter. I left it - I wouldn't even take it home to feed my dog. Service - D (but that may be a result of the incompetent kitchen staff) Food Price/quality ratio - C. not over priced on the surface, until you realize what crap you are being fed. Value for alcohol - Z minus. They have this ridiculous contraption they put on their wine bottles to measure the pour...you wind up getting what would amount to a half a glass of wine at very high prices. Bottle prices are a ridiculous multiple over retail. Don't be fooled by the extremely charming and lovely young lady they have at the front desk. This place is complete crap. A nice place to eat grilled food. They have an open air grill (and supply of wood) off from the kitchen where yummy things are created. Ribs and wedge potato fries are by far the best I have eaten in Puerto Vallarta (see photo). The fries and yummy grilled octopus are available as a side item on their appetizer menu. Soups are not worth your time. They have no concept of French Onion soup. Service is friendly. Food is slow to come from the kitchen. Sit back & relax with your favorite adult beverage. Breakfast & lunch are quiet times but a nice selection of items. Dinner time gets busy!!!!! Expect to spend several hours. Credit cards accepted. read more

Location is very nice and beautiful, however service is extremely slow. We were a group of 6. Restaurant was busy, but not fully packed. Starters arrived after more then an hour from the minute were ordered. Main Courses haven't come out after 2 hours from placing the order. This place is just amazing. Food, drink, service, and atmosphere are top notch yet still have a casual and relaxed feel matching the Old Town Puerto Vallarta vibe. Lots of great items to try and especially if you are the carnivore type that likes grilled meats. Whether it be surf or turf, it is all great. There signature cocktails are so unique and delicious as well. Service at this place is very attentive and friendly all the way. I was impressed with it and it really felt sincere. The décor was very pleasant and comfortable. It had a cozy feel to it that allowed you to escape the busy street just outside this semi open restaurant. The owner is often at the restaurant to oversee operations and quality and frequently a family member present. Walking by De Cantaro with my sister and my niece, we chatted briefly with Héctor, who was just really sweet and charming and friendly. He convinced us to stay for lunch, so we did, and it was just excellent. The mimosas were fresh and sweet and cold, all of our entrees were delicious, the servers were friendly and playful, and the coffee was the best I had in PV all week. De Cantaro offers excellent customer service and quality food. The chef came to our table and recommend several different meats, which all looked incredible fresh and delicious. We went with the tomahawk steak. This was the best decision I've ever made. The steak was served on a hot Himalayan salt block. The meat was table side by the chef. The presentation and aroma is like no other. The side dishes were also amazing and of great quality. Our group was pleasantly surprised by the quality that we continued to order dishes. We tried numerous cocktails, calamari, and dessert. Each was memorable and the best I've ever had. I don't think any steak house can beat this place, especially for the price and service.
