Yum! How inventive of them to use the hotel rooms as separate private eating areas for guests! It was so nice to come here with our friends and feel safe. The food was so delicious! I may have ordered too many vegetable dishes but did not regret it. They seem to put cheese on everything so I had to be mindful to order everything without it. I started with the Wedge salad - which was surprising large and delightful. My only complaint was that nowhere do they state that it comes covered in pepitas. Which was unfortunate because I had to pick them all off and I could've avoided that if it was listed on the menu. I fell in love with their Crispy Brussels simply amazing. I ordered them without cheese sauce (which is much too heavy) that they put on them but pork belly that comes with them was so crispy and flavored the sprouts. I'm almost certain they are deep fried in the pork belly fat and were incredibly tasty. They were crispy on the outside and tender inside and the flavor was not bitter as sprouts can sometimes be. I also had the parmesan lime zucchini sans the parm and they were delicious too but not as irresistible as the sprouts. The lime gave them a nice zesty flavor. Next was the chili lime broccolini without the parmesan cheese. My friend really liked these but although they were delicious and I did enjoy them I wasn't particular swayed by them, perhaps too many lime flavored vegetables? My main course was the Camarones a la diabla which came with a red chili sauce but it tasted too sweet and I don't eat sugar so I had to scrape the sauce off. The shrimp themselves were plump and I enjoyed them. I believe the steaks were the main attraction, I didn't eat them but the men in our party had the tomahawk rib eyes. They really enjoyed them along with the truffled mac and cheese. Overall this was such a lovely night in our private room with Alexa playing Pink Martini in the background. This dinner experience was incredible! My husband and I had a $400 dinner at Ox a couple months ago and our experience here was on par for less than half the price ($140). The aji Amarillo tiradito salmon belly carpaccio was amazing and so so delicious! The spice level was very mild which was perfect for me and was honestly my favorite carpaccio I've ever had, I can't describe how amazing this was. The squash salad was insanely good (we also had a squash dish at Ox which was so boring- this blew that dish out of the water). The chimichurri corn risotto seemed a little bland at first after the flavor bomb of the squash salad but the depth of flavor was actually really good. I was a little confused by the term chimichurri, it was more like an herbed risotto with parsley and a little garlic- I did not see or taste any red pepper flakes, oregano or vinegar that's typically in a chimichurri but nevertheless we enjoyed it. The de fuego Mac was delicious too. My husband's favorite dish is Mac and cheese and he said this was the best he has ever had. Ingenious way to use sweetie drop buqhuino peppers in a dish and arugula as well. The mushrooms tasted really good but the texture was a little on the chewy side for me like they had absorbed too much water. My husband loved them though. The showstopper was the Thai Snapper. The sauce with the fresh veggies and fried fish was a phenomenal flavor combination. Overall, the salmon belly aji Amarillo tiradito, the squash salad and the Thai Snapper were the best of the night being the absolute flavor bombs of deliciousness and the de fuego Mac, mushrooms and corn risotto were the more mild flavors of the night but they were a great balance to the other dishes. The Weller bourbon was also amazing. I'm not a drinker so I just let it touch my lips and tongue to get the flavor and it was really really nice. My husband said it was the ultimate gentleman's bourbon and now wants to own a bottle- this bourbon is a close second behind the coveted George T Stagg (not available here). The service was very good and our server took the time to speak to the kitchen and give us an amazing recommendation- the Thai Snapper which they described as being one of the most unique dishes on the menu. The fire pit nearby was gorgeous and although the dim lighting lends to being very romantic, it did seem slightly too dark. My husband said he would've liked to see the food better. I've been seeing the ads on the monarch hotel shuttle buses for many years. I have been told many times how great this place is. This is not an insult to the Monarch Hotel, but I'm not usually a big fan of restaurants at hotels. Finally went there for lunch today and wow! I'm sorry I waited so long. Walking into the restaurant. I felt like I was in a downtown Las Vegas steakhouse. The fireplace, the big open tables in the great booth seating. The staff was very friendly. All of the meat was cooked to perfection and tender and well seasoned. I don't like having to use sauces to flavor my meat, and even though they do provide a couple of chimichurri, I didn't feel the need to use much of it, if any at all. We had a quick trip from Seattle to Portland and thanks to all the yelp reviews we ended up at de Fuego....and it was incredible! We shared the burrata and the mussels. The mussels were in a rich broth with sliced sausages and served with bread to sop up the broth. So good! Now on to the burrata....it was devine! The de Fuego take on a bruschetta, but so elevated in flavor. Super fresh, pillowy mozzarella with pan seared tomatoes with a fragrant balsamic vinaigrette. I gave it 5 stars, but as a special occasion restaurant. This place is pricey but a lot of fun. They bring things out as they are ready which is a pet peeve of my husband because it very distracting to the flow of conversation at the table. We have five people who ordered 5 tapas plates and 4 entrees, so that was 9 interruptions instead of 2 (appetizer/entre.) Be prepared for a flow of staff running by your table with no idea who ordered what. If you can deal with that then your night should be fine. Our table had the seafood curry (it was called something much fancier than that), Houston smoke burger, ribs, salmon with risotto, fingerlings two ways, jalapeño fritters, and mussels. There were zero food complaints. My salmon/risotto was fantastic and I sampled the fingerlings and fritters. Delicious. Servers were attentive, atmosphere was intimate, presentation was too notch. The chairs we had were those curvy ones that are unkind to hippy women, but the table managed. Our bill with tip was approximately $175 and there was no alcohol consumed. First impression of this restaurant was not a good one. This place was recommended by a friend and was on my list to try. We made a reservation for 7pm on Saturday night. We arrived exactly at 7 and was told the table isn't ready and would be another 10 min. By 7:17, I went back in to check and asked how much longer the wait would be since we made a reservation for 7. The lady replied very rudely and with an attitude "we don't have control of when people leave their table so yea, but it's ready now." I totally understand what she meant, but there are other ways she could have said it. We got seated in the upper level, which had plenty of empty tables so I was also confused as to why we had to wait. The FOOD, however, was delicious! As recommended by the waiter, we ordered multiple tapas to share amongst ourselves. This is a great way to try everything. Everything we ordered was so good, but I think the two things I liked the most were the Ecuadorian Shrimp Ceviche and the Burrata. The chips that came with the ceviche made all the difference. These chips were thicker, and very crispy yet light and airy at the same time. This combined with the shrimp- a must try! And the Burrata was just as good. Cheese, onions, salsa on bread-delicious combo! I was also impressed that the food came out so quickly. We came here at the strange hours of 415pm on a Friday, after studying their hours on their website and talking with the young hostess, from what I gathered so far, 3-5 pm do not have lunch or dinner served, only bar menus. Hours were strange. Apparently their restaurant doesn't open till 5 and I arrived at 5 with people from out of town, some of which were minors. I couldn't be more obsessed with de Fuego! My husband and I love to come here for date nights, the underground is our *favorite* date night spot because of the music and the food. You literally cannot go wrong with any of the choices on the menu and we've been through the list, but I repeatedly go back for the filet Oscar and it's perfect every time. The spicy margaritas are our favorite drink! We love everything from the servers to the drinks so much that we actually hosted our wedding rehearsal dinner here a few weeks ago, giving us the opportunity to try the menu upstairs and use the private dining space and it couldn't have been more perfect.
