    Buffalo wings

Beautiful NEW addition to Julian's food selection. This is a family run restaurant with house made options and a little taste of Julian's famous apple pie to finish off your dining experience! I had a wonderful experience here. The food was delicious. I ordered the chips and salsa/guacamole and the chips were incredible. The buffalo sauce on the wings is unmatched, the chef has absolutely perfected the homemade sauce and it's one to be remembered. The rolled tacos were crisp on the outside and the meat was so tender inside with an array of toppings that were all fresh. The quality shows in every way! As they are a new restaurant, they're working out everything necessary to run a very successful establishment in the heart of Julian! The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Will absolutely be returning in the future for that hometown, comforting feeling of a home cooked meal that we all know Julian so well for.

I watched the cook hand my salad to the server, and the salad slid along the bottom of the bottom black shelf (in the photo) on the way out. Very gross. The server then brought it right out to me like nothing happened. Had I not seen it, I never would have known my salad got scraped along the bottom of a dusty shelf. There were also flies everywhere. I think this restaurant is highly unsanitary and the shelf salad was probably the tip of the iceberg.

We were staying in the Lodge across the street and decided we wanted a snack, so De Los Altos Restaurant was open the latest and had the best options for dessert. We chose to share a carrot cake and each ordered a hot chocolate abuelita. Everything was tasty.

Kids never get a soda but today was special!

Beatriz was an excellent server. She welcomed us so warmly and answered all our questions. The food was great & my kids loved it. The music in there was my favorite & we look forward to returning often!!

We were not disappointed at all. Upon arriving, there was a musician playing, and they did seat us off to the right so we could not see but could hear still. There is outdoor and indoor seating, but at the time we came it appeared that the outdoor was reserved for an event. We happily sat inside! Having met Jeremy's parents earlier in the day who also recommended his restaurant, and they were just lovely, we had hoped to possibly meet Jeremy too. I wanted to try everything, but we opt on getting a few dishes to share. Our son ordered the filet mignon and they were able to substitute mashed potatoes for fries. Amazing!! The mac & brisket appetizer appeared to be the highlight and specialty and we just had to order it. Every bite was cheeesy and delicious with the brisket very moist. We couldn't go without ordering the Brussels sprouts and it had a twist with ponzu sauce and pineapple. Definitely a different take and I thoroughly enjoyed the taste. Every bite was foodgasmic and I highly recommend!!! I knew coming here that some Yelpers have experienced wavering in quality, so glad we did not experience that at all. As of the date that we came, we understood that the restaurant had been listed for sale, not sure if Jeremy sold it yet or not. I hope not, we plan on coming back this summer!

When we saw the Julian Beer Company, we couldn't help but be drawn in for a drink and food! Before ordering, we had used their restroom which is located inside the coffee shop; super cute aesthetic! We went inside, not the first building, but the second building. We had grabbed a menu at the front and looked at what we'd like. We had chosen a few items and waited at the bar area. The man working there wasn't pleasant. Unfortunately, we didn't feel welcomed. He was short with us, stared blankly, and didn't say a lot. There wasn't a greeting nor a nice transaction, since words weren't really exchanged. When we ordered, he didn't respond and there were long pauses. We felt quite judged and confused. We ordered anyway, and took a seat outside. We had ordered their IPA and their Japanese lager. For food, we ordered their cheesesteak, extra rolls, coleslaw, and their sausage. Their sausage was fantastic!! I loved every bite. Th with cheesesteak was also good and had a generous amount of cheese on top. Their beers nicely washed down the food on a warm day. After eating, we decided to waltz into the first building to look at their merchandise. Inside, a different man had greeted us with the biggest smile! He asked if we needed help, and gave us free stickers. He was very kind and made our day! I truly liked the city, beer, place, food, and the service that kind man had given to us. If we didn't have that interaction full of judgement, this place would be beyond five stars! Hoping it will be magnificent next time.

Just about every table was occupied, but the servers were efficient and certainly friendly. My order was the Cafe Hamburger ($16.95) which came with a huge portion of French fries, and slices of pickle, onion and tomato. I requested mayo to complement the house-made ketchup. The patty was thick, done medium well, and very tasty, clamped by a very fresh bun. Tammy was the server, and despite being quite busy, checked in once or twice. A great burger and great service.

That said, I do want to clarify that, from what I observed, we were not the last table to be seated. I understand it was a busy Fourth of July, and I know everyone can make mistakes. My disappointment wasn't because of the wait alone--it was because my order was incorrect multiple times, and I was eventually asked again what I had ordered even though it was just biscuits and gravy. By the time my food finally arrived, the experience had already been affected. I don't expect perfection, especially on a busy holiday. I simply shared my honest experience and hope it helps improve service for future guests. -------------------- We ordered our food and my friend received her meal, but my order of biscuits and gravy didn't come out correctly. The server acknowledged the mistake, saying it was her fault and that she would get it fixed right away. Unfortunately, the wrong order was brought out, and the staff had to come back and ask what I had originally ordered. It was a simple order--just biscuits and gravy--so it was frustrating that it was difficult to get right. When the correct food finally arrived, the experience had already been delayed and a bit discouraging. At that point, I was honestly just over it, especially when I was asked if I wanted a box, as if we were finished. Overall, the food was fine once it arrived, but the service experience that day was disorganized and left a negative impression.

My husband and I ordered a ruben with chili cheese fries and a tri-tip sandwich with fries. The star of the day was actually the chili cheese fries, which was surprising! My husband pointed out that they do serve chili as well, which I will probably get the next time I'm in town. The sandwiches were also very good, though the Ruben could have used a tad more sauerkraut to balance the flavors. The fries on their own are double fried or battered (or something along those lines) and have an incredible crunchy texture! We came on what I would consider a moderately busy day for Julian, I've seen Miner's Diner packed to the brim before. Our server, Kaylin or Kaitlin (I'm sorry about the spelling!) was amazing. It's obvious she's been a server in a busy restaurant for sometime, as she was on top of EVERYTHING. It was like she had the timing down to a science--and not for just our table,--but her whole section. Refill? She was ready. Done with food? Check ready to go + to go boxes. She was doing that with the other tables simultaneously. Impressive, honestly. Overall, this is a nice spot to stop by if it isn't packed to the gills. Food is standard Diner fare, but does add the the mining town vibe Julian has. We didn't get any this time but I also suggest the shakes or sodas. The rumors are true. Don't eat here…read more It's true that you're quickly seated, but there will be a vacuum cleaner hanging out in the corner of the dining area. And the tables are a little sticky. All forgivable grievances really if the food was mid to okay tasting, but it wasn't, so yikes. I ordered the French dip sandwich ($16.95 I think). The sandwich comes with sliced smoked tri-tip topped with a slice of cheese + grilled onions on a toasted French roll. It's served with a side of fries and a cup of au jus. Initially, it looked promising, however, I heavily suspect that sliced tri-tip was just deli meat in disguise. Moreover, the au jus was incredibly salty. It. Was. So. Salty. Without the au jus, the sandwich was just a sandwich and not a French dip. Overall, the kitchen needs to exercise more qual control. Both orders of fries for the table were severely undercooked. And the buffalo burger was burnt. There is litany of things that Rongbranch could do better, so come at your own risk. Strategically eat here if you need a bathroom break or a break from the crowds. However I advise against making Rongbranch your dining destination while visiting Julian.

The skillet breakfast item has a nice puff pastry, but felt a little empty. I would hope that they would improve their management, as others around us were waiting for a long while, too. Food was so good (burger and grilled chese with brisket.) And even though it's in the podunk Santa Ysabel, there are other things (pie, bread) at the same intersection so you can get a lot done. I'd like to also call out the fries. I have an unhealthy obsession and visceral reaction to bad fries, but Farmhouse 78 hits it out of the park with their fries. It defies logic that other sit-down places will meticulously prepare quality, fresh food, then slap frozen Ore-Idas down on the plate. Farmhouse 78 does not do that. Fresh cut potatoes fried in beef tallow. Doesn't get any better than that. I'd add a sixth star just for the fries if I could. I plowed through them before I even touched the sandwich.

I even brought friends who had never been here before, thinking it could become one of our regular stops when we're out hitting the trails. Instead, it left a bad taste in everyone's mouth... and not just from the food. Waitress: Where do I even start. She claimed she was hard of hearing--but her attitude spoke loud and clear. Tossing menus on the table, aggressively slamming salsa down, and getting snarky over being off because our party count was off by one person. Seriously? It took two seconds to adjust the table, but apparently that was just too much. Yes, she technically did her job... but with such a cold, unwelcoming, and rigid attitude that it made the whole experience uncomfortable. What really stood out? We were there first and ready to order, yet she chose to take care of every smaller table that came in after us. No communication, no "I'll be right with you," nothing. Just ignored. Basic courtesy clearly isn't part of the service here. And trust me--I used to be a waitress. I handled large parties all the time and actually communicated with my tables. It's not that hard. Honestly, if gratuity hadn't already been forced onto the bill, she would've gotten $0. The only pleasant person we encountered was the busser--quick, friendly, and actually seemed like he wanted to be there. Maybe swap their roles, because he outperformed her by a mile. Food: Let's talk about the food... if that's what we're calling it. Everything came out cold. Not "warm-ish," not "could be hotter"... just straight up cold. It felt like our plates were sitting under a heat lamp for way too long before making it to the table. One "white" friend asked to have her meal fixed--fine, no problem. But when another "Hispanic" friend asked the same thing? Suddenly there was attitude, menu slamming, and mumbling under her breath. So... what exactly was the difference? Why the inconsistency and hostility? If the kitchen is that backed up, maybe management should step in and help instead of letting food die in the window. Just a thought. Final Thoughts: This place had potential... but that waitress single-handedly ruined it. We'll be taking our group (and our money) elsewhere--Dudley's Bakery is looking like a much better option moving forward. I usually bring large groups out here, so this isn't a small loss. Unfortunately, if this is the level of service they're okay with, this place isn't going to improve anytime soon. At this point, it's less "Farmhouse charm" and more "junky barn energy."
