This experience was very frustrating when we had been waiting for an hour just sitting there. There is nothing worse than sitting there getting hungrier by the minute, only to realize the kitchen doesn't even know you exist--especially on your Birthday. They took our drink order 20 mins from when we got there. The building outside looked a bit dull and plain. Upon entering the restaurant it looked spacious and with cute decor. The tables were spread out throughly with enough room where couples can chat quietly. The server was super nice and friendly. Explained the whole menu and even specials of the day, too. My wife and I visited De Poca Madre on Sunday around 12:20 PM, and unfortunately, the experience was underwhelming from start to finish. When our server first approached our table, she already seemed over the day. She spoke very quickly, avoided eye contact, and didn't come across as welcoming. First impressions matter, and this one wasn't great. I ordered a Michelada but was told they were already out of the mix. Running out of something like that on a Sunday around lunchtime was surprising, but we moved on. My wife ordered a pineapple mimosa. The drinks took about 10 minutes to arrive even though the restaurant wasn't particularly busy, and the mimosa came before we even received water. When the water finally arrived, it was served in a plastic to-go cup, which felt out of place for a dine-in meal. We ordered the egg sandwich and the steak and eggs. Before ordering, I specifically asked if the steak came with a grilled jalapeño, and the server replied, "It already comes with one." When my plate arrived, there was no jalapeño. I also expected a generous amount of chimichurri based on the menu, but there was barely any on the steak. After our food was dropped off, no one came back to check on us. I actually had to ask the busser for salt and pepper because the steak needed seasoning. When I mentioned the missing jalapeño, he told me they were sold out. Had someone communicated that when I placed my order, I would've understood. Instead, I was told it came with one. The food itself was just okay. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't memorable either. Nothing really stood out, and for a $65 brunch, I expected much more in both flavor and presentation. The service never improved. We didn't receive any drink refills until the check was dropped off. Even then, there was still no eye contact, and the server reached across the table to grab the payment rather than taking a moment to engage with us. When we got up to leave, no one thanked us for coming, asked how everything was, or acknowledged any of the concerns we experienced during the meal. I still left a tip because I know serving isn't an easy job, but overall the experience didn't justify the price. Between the inattentive service, poor communication, missing menu items, average food, and lack of hospitality, I don't see myself returning. There are too many great brunch spots in the area that offer a much better experience for the same cost. read more

I am extremely disappointed with the service I received today. My fiancé, my family, and I eat here regularly, and we usually have a great experience with the other waitress. Unfortunately, our experience today with the younger waitress, Liz, was unacceptable. There were only about four tables, yet we didn't receive our waters until we were almost finished with our meal. She never checked on us once, and we had to flag her down just to ask for Tapatío and salsa. The wait for basic items like water and condiments was much longer than it should have been. When we asked again, she seemed visibly annoyed, and even while taking our order, her attitude came across as irritated and uninterested. We really enjoy this restaurant, which is why this experience stood out so much. Has a wait for a reason! The food is all made to order. We ordered the Eggs Your Way, La Blanquita Omelet, and a side of French toast. My favorite part of the dish was definitely the French toast, it was fluffy and had the right amount of toppings. I will definitely be coming back just for the French toast alone. We waited approximately 15 minutes for our table (which is not bad, considering that it was a weekend at around 1215pm). The staff is very nice, helpful and efficient. We got the horchata and agua de pepino; which are served in their beautiful glasses. Their menu is very extensive; it ranges from the usual sweeter brunch items (french toast) to savory (steak & eggs), they also have appetizers to share and salads. My husband and I had an early optometrist appointment and were looking for something to eat for brunch. I'm not a huge brunch person because I dont really care for breakfast foods. The cafe actually tasted like cafe de la olla not some powdered drink or white washed drink. The potato tacos were honestly pretty soggy for potato tacos i wish they had been crispier. Flavor just wasn't there for me. My husband got the Torta, and honestly it was good just a little oily. I will say the main reason I'm giving this place a 4 star rating is their fries. If i need any reason to come back here it's that. I don't think I've ever had such good fries at a restaurant. They were perfectly crispy and had a good seasoning to them. If they did something like loaded fries with those fries, I'd be here every week getting my order in! So definitely a cute spot, I'm not saying it's bad because honestly, it's a brunch place and i didn't get the chance to try their breakfast food. Ahi tuna bites: we're bland and missing some flavor. We loved the presentation and the Chicharron. Michelada clams: it had a lot of flavor and some how all came together with the various flavors. SO GOOD. Crispy calamari with candied jalapeños: thick yet tender pieces and our favorite part were the candied jalapeños, wish it came with more. Braised beef cheeks: a classic with great flavor. Cazuelita de lengua: we were excited for the lengua but felt the sauce over powered the dish. Paloma: very refreshing! Service is always attentive and the restaurant atmosphere is great for a date night.
