To sit next to each other we either had to do a high top table or sit by the bar. Circle City Tavern: Come for the cocktails, stay because you can't hear yourself ask for the check. We really, really wanted to like this place. We even waited until after the soft-launch growing pains, figuring they deserved some time to work out the kinks. Apparently, the kinks have settled in and signed a long-term lease. First, the noise. Concrete floors, hard walls, hard ceiling...basically an acoustically optimized aircraft hangar serving cocktails. The restaurant was only half full, yet we still had to communicate through a combination of shouting, lip-reading, and hand signals. Despite the abundance of empty tables, we were firmly assigned to a tiny two-top because the larger tables were being "saved" for parties of three or more. Those mythical parties never appeared, but I hope the empty tables enjoyed their evening. They serve breakfast, brunch, and dinner, but no lunch. No biggie. I ordered a gin and tonic. They had no tonic, so they substituted soda without mentioning it. When we asked about it, the response was, "Well, I guess we're out." Who says that to a customer? Just the verbal equivalent of a shrug emoji. The fries were excellent. Full credit where it is due: those fries understood the assignment. We both ordered the BLT, which featured greasy bread, completely flaccid bacon, and a supporting cast of indistinct mush. I took three bites while desperately searching for a redeeming quality. The search has officially been suspended due to lack of evidence. The wings, however, were good,more like pieces of fried chicken than traditional wings, very enjoyable. The black garlic dipping sauce was delicious. The spicy margarita was also very good, although "spicy" is not being used decoratively here. It arrives ready to challenge your cardiovascular system. The Old Fashioned was solid as well. To their credit, they removed the gin drinks and both BLTs from the bill. That was absolutely the right thing to do and was appreciated. Even after removing the cocktails and sandwiches, two margaritas, one Old Fashioned, and an order of wings came to roughly $75...not counting the three bites of BLT we managed or the fries. Circle City Tavern has some good drinks, excellent fries, and tasty wings. Unfortunately, those bright spots are buried beneath indifferent service, baffling seating decisions, limited food options, and a BLT that should probably be placed on administrative leave. We may return for drinks and fries; provided we bring ear protection and don't arrive during the mysterious period formerly known as lunch. read more

As a couple of locals we were so excited to visit this newer place in the city. We anticipated to have a go to spot for our catch up sessions but it fell a bit lackluster. Cute spot with plenty of parking and clean exterior and interior. We asked for a booth because we were in it for a few hours but were told booths were not for two people. We looked around to find about 10 people in the whole place (including off service staff). But okay we headed to the bar no big deal. Food was great and so were the drinks! Hats off to the skills to make them. The bar service was transactional. It was 5 pm and we asked if they were closing since we felt kind of like we were just taking up space with the limited interaction and warmth we were getting. I have eaten here a few of times, and every time has been amazing. This last trip I decided to give a few of the appetizers to try and had jalapeño popper egg rolls and spicy tuna tostadas. Both were amazing and I will definitely be sure to order with an entrée next time I visit. I accompanied my meal with a local IPA which I also. Everything is supposed to be handcrafted. I believe that most of it is. Everything we ordered was hot, juicy, crispy, tasty, flavorful, whatever it was supposed to be. Bloody Mary was delicious with the smoked salt on the rim, the bacon strip was actually still hot off the grill and was a solid piece of bacon. Next, the double tavern burger with bacon. Yes, it's gonna cost you, but I assure you it was worth all $30. Everything was juicy and fresh. Only thing was the bottom bun got soggy pretty quick, but since it was so good I'm not complaining much. The regular fries were crispy and tasty. The crispy chicken sandwich was legit. Juicy and large piece of chicken freshly fried. The Calabrian chili slaw and a nice little sweet heat crunch to it and the pesto smacked. Got the cilantro garlic fries with this and those were amazing too. The ranch. You can taste the fresh dill in it, rich and tangy, always get sides of ranch. The staff was very attentive and made sure everyone was taken care of. In addition to that, the entire set up in open and very clean. We ate outside on the back patio which is full of games and things for anyone to do really (cornhole, big jenga blocks, etc). Lots of room out there. When we came here, it was a Wednesday night so I guess you can say it was "Country Night" with live music. Our visit was two weeks ago and now I finally have time to write about it. We made reservations for 8 (including kids). I like the place. It's nice and the vibes and decor matches what they're going for. Parking is good and seating is decent for a small restaurant with booth to the side and tables on the middle section near the bar. They also have outside seating too with bathrooms along the back area. Music is definitely loud and we found ourselves talking louder just to communicate with one another. We ordered from the happy hour menu. Happy hour ended at 6pm on Wednesday and we made it right before! We got a variety of things. The tostadas were delicious. The adobo chicken tacos were stuffed and had a kick to it. Really flavorful. The garlic noodles were a bit too salty. The loaded pepperoni flat bread was decent. Just too much dough. The jalapeño eggrolls were good, definitely tasted better with the sauce it came with. The tavern nachos were mid and the "chicken tenders" for the kids were ok. No seasoning whatsoever on the chicken and very plain but fries were good. Drinks were a mixed review. The smoked old fashion was fire and definitely well done. The margarita flight was interesting. It's only served Tuesday but they made an exception for us since the waitress didn't know it's only for Tuesday and other guests got it too. The spicy margarita was good, the strawberry one didn't taste like strawberry. The mango didn't taste like mango. We were a bit confused but it is what it is, not all drinks can win. The golden sunset margarita was gross, it was really sour for some reason like they forgot the tequila. We're not one to complain and dealt with it. The city smash was good. Definitely worth it for happy hour. Overall service was good, food was decent and environment is kid friendly. Live music is definitely a plus. Always a fabulous time here. We sat at the bar for a date night and ran into an exceptional mixologist in Draven! Super personable and friendly! All the drinks we had were exceptional and delicious! We tried the Spicy Tuna Tostadas, Chicken Adobo Tacos and Brussel Sprouts for the first time, no disappointment or complaints here! Their alcohol selection is vast and the decor is very earthy and warm. Love the atmosphere and the server was so attentive and great with checking up on us. I had the fish taco blackened with truffle parmesan fries. Well worth it. My friend got a pesto sandwich and it was good from what I gather. So many things to try. I stumbled on this place on a Monday afternoon after studying (there's a library just a quick walk nearby in case folks are interested in taking a break. I was able to attend their Happy Hour which on Mondays are from 3pm to close which I loved! I ordered a cocktail (Crimson Drop), an order of fries, and their Tavern Burger. I also chuckled because on their menu they had Girl Dinner which if you know, you know. I'll likely order that next time. The fries were the perfect amount of crispy and flavorful. The cocktail was a little bit on the sweeter side for my taste but for $8 it delivered! I wasn't impressed with their burger--there wasn't enough sauce for me so it tasted pretty bland and I was expecting more. Maybe their other burgers are better? I originally wanted their happy hour nachos which didn't come with protein and I wasn't able to add any protein to it unless I bought the "regular-priced" one which I also thought was a little strange? Went to Circle City Tavern for the first time ever.. I was charged $45 for ONE shot of Fortaleza Reposado with pineapple juice. When I questioned it, the bartender (John) told me it's because the bottle is "$300" and only yields about 18 shots. That explanation doesn't add up -- the same bottle is widely available for around $150 retail, and bars don't pay retail pricing. To make it worse, I went to The Brass Tap right after and ordered the exact same drink for $15. Same tequila, same order, a third of the price. Our server was absolutely wonderful. His name was unusual Caleb or something that starts with a K. I ordered the $17 lunch special, which was very very tiny. Definitely way overpriced. The vodka pasta was good though. The serving was the size of my fist... for $17 dollars!!! These still working were working their tails off, sweat dripping from one of the men. I felt pretty bad for them. The only pleasant part of this lunch was our server the Young guy named Caleb. I don't think that was his name. It was unusual and it started with a K.
