This time-tested lunch spot is in, I believe, its third location now in Salt Lake City. The food has remained consistent and good. I have ordered the Rooster Call for all the years I've come here. It's a white meat chicken salad sandwich with cashews and grapes on ciabatta. It tastes today as it did a decade ago- they stay tasty and consistent here, no cutting corners or trying to fix something that's not broken. My partner had the BLT al la Rick, with added avocado on white toast. A classic. We both had the lunch special, which came with chips or orzo pasta salad, and a dessert bite. The orzo pasta salad is, again, as delicious as it was a decade ago. Toasted pine nuts, and basil really make it pop! I had a brownie bite, and my partner had a lemon square, both of which were very tasty. We both ordered the half sandwich, which you can see from the pictures is really a whole sandwich. Saw this place on Yelp and wanted to give it a try. It was a short walk from my hotel so that was a plus. Staff were very friendly. They have a great lunch special deal. I didn't do it because it was a little too much for me. I just grabbed a sandwich and chips. I got the Dipper and it was really good. I really liked that they sliced it diagonally that helped make dipping in the au jus so much easier. They are among the few places that I have ordered French dip that has sliced the sandwich diagonally. Service was fast without compromising the food quality and appearance. Have enjoyed eating here many times, but one fateful day I witnessed an employee drop a container of cucumber slices on the floor behind the counter. I've been coming here for 13+ years ever since college (the U is right up the hill), through grad school, post grad as I started my career around the corner from the OG location, and now over a decade later I drive up from South Jordan specifically to come get a sandi here. After 13+ years, domestic travel all over the country to all major U.S. cities, being a sandi obsessed girl, experimentation on home-made sandis, studying the sandi, and being a frequent sandi consumer of all different types, I can attest that Robin's Nest is still BY FAR, one of the absolute best sandis I've had in the country. I can confidently say this and I still drive 45+ mins out of my way to come get the heart warming classics that have been melting us SLC locals alive!! You can't really go wrong with anything here, but my personal faves are anything on the ciabatta because the ciabatta is such a beautiful foundation, lightly crispy on the outside, ever so slightly toasted and not hard at all/won't cut your mouth like other poorly toasted breads used on sandis, and then puffy soft bread behind the crisp. My decade+ go-to's: gouda smoker, madam, the gobbler, the big dipper, anything with bacon because it's perfectly thin and crispy and I don't even normally like bacon, but it's done so well here and so complimenting of the other ingredients that I love it. The cheese is always perfectly melted, not too much/not still hard, and avacado thinly spread so nothing squishes out when you eat the whole thing, it all stays together. Always get the Orzo if they have it still when you get there, go earlier in the lunch hour so you have a better shot at getting what you want while available, desserts are all good and never disappoint. Post-pandemic the shop is only open 3 hours a day M-F so go get in line and get your sandi while it's available and hot!! Don't be shocked if they're out of stuff, this place is in demand and sells out so go early, it's the closest thing to a Texas BBQ hot spot demand line but in SLC sandi form, in the middle of business buildings/professionals at lunch central so be ready for it to be busy, always. Josh (usually at the register) and Robin (his mother I think) started the place and still run and operate it personally. They are one-of-a-kind, genuine artists at the sandi craft and have mastered the texture, flavors, temperature, and emotion of this American lunch classic and they do it inarguably the best of the best. I've brought several international visitors to Robin's because I think it's the perfect example of the American lunch sandi on steroids and taken to the next level but not overdone/overdressed/trying too hard to be something more than what it should be. It's still simple, but it's simply good and it's a great/good and memorable experience of the classic American lunch sandi for visitors to take home to their homelands which is a pretty special story when you get to try a very well done American sandi. I have to express that the very few weird complaining comments on some of these reviews are laughable espesh for a place like this, these guys are a family owned small local business that is incredibly well respected and loved by locals that have become a staple in our SLC community. The best part, Josh and Robin are their authentic selves as the artists here and it's awesome they don't put up with entitled humans but still always go above and beyond for their everyday customer and community, they are a delight. If you're going to go eat at an establishment, keep in mind it's a 2-way street, yes we're paying for food, but we're also lucky enough for those making it to be willing to share their love of it and their craft of it with the world and mostly, serve it to you who gets the opportunity to experience it. If you're pissed that a place that is really good sells out of stuff because they're the best sandi in the city and you showed up too late, reset your expectations on popular food experiences and plan better next time if you want to give the place another shot, come earlier, try a different item etc. Just makes you seem a bit out-of-the-loop on expectations when it comes to popular establishments. I LOVE Robin's Nest, no matter if y'all are locals, visiting, or just passing by, you literally can't go wrong if you want a good sandi- it'll emerse you as a SLC local and you can proudly say you tasted a solid piece of the city, in all it has to offer in the sandi genere :). read more

In the past, I loved Robin's Nest. But my experience today has made me decide to never go back!! I called in to place an order to go for our office for a lunch meeting and was asked to email them our order instead of giving it over the phone. When I was on the phone I asked the wait and they said 30 minutes. I emailed our order to the address provided and showed up at the location for pick up about 45 minutes later. My coworker and I were greeted with so much hostility and sass! I let the cashier know that we had a to go order and after asking the name, he denied that we had ever placed an order. We could see his computer screen behind him and saw our order at the top and pointed it out. The other person who was front of house said to him, "that's the order I told you about that came in." He FREAKED OUT and yelled at us for not placing the order the day before and saying that he would have never quoted us a 30 minute wait time for the 9 sandwiches we ordered (which I understand is a lot to make all at once with no notice, but we gave them ample notice). He continued to chide us for how we placed our order even though we were only following Robin's Nest's directions, but agreed to make our order. He later came up to speak with us after he started to prepare our order (we assumed to apologize) but only CONTINUED to rudely harp on what he had yelled at us before. We mentioned that we come here often and had never been told to order the night before. As he was walking away, he said "if you order from here often, you should know better." I honestly wish we had just left then to take our business elsewhere!! But we had a meeting to attend and didn't want to be more late than we already were. While paying for our order, he mentioned that he recognized us and our business and realized that we come there often. He seemed to be trying to acknowledge how rude he was for no reason without saying sorry. I really can't believe unnecessarily aggressive he was and having worked in food service for most of my adult life, I can confidently say it was not even busy inside the restaurant. His missing our order would not have been a big deal had he not continued to be rude and disrespectful. I understand not everyone is suited for customer service, but this experience has made me never want to come back... My husband has been a huge fan here and couldn't stop talking abt it since he went with his coworkers. We finally tried for lunch, and let me tell you, if you work around the area, go treat yourself! I normally don't write reviews until I personally tried the place 3+ times but since my husband is such a huge fan (and apparently his boss had tried every single item on their menu the past few years) I will take their words for it. I ordered their Big Dipper. French dip usually is a hit or miss for me since so many places mess it up, but man... it's probably my favorite dip!!! I'm kinda odd when it comes to dip but I love when it's not greasy. Their beaf is perfectly roasted soft and tasty; bread is carefully toasted soft on the inside but also has the crispy shell; so spongy that it absorbs all the goodness from the juices; the juices also has very balanced flavor, on top of the mom n pop feels. (I had to take a break on writing the review since it's getting me hungry lol). I highly recommend ordering the combo and try their pasta if you are a basil fan. Nice plate cleansers in its own way (and you can try their treats!) The place it decent size and pretty chill, but since it's in the middle of bunch offices it does get busy during lunch hours, so better plan your visit ahead of the time. As for the service, I actually don't drink soda and all which supposed to come with the combo, and they let me grab a bottle water instead. You don't see that often since I also don't drink tap water lol so can't be more grateful!
