Pretty good coffee and super kind baristas. The owner however, was really rude. Also just shady business practices that really reveal the owner's drive for money over people. First off, the coffee was $8 for a dirty chai which even for Santa Barbara, is a lot. Its good, but not worth $6.50 for a large mocha. Second, wifi only comes with a receipt. When we asked for the code on a receipt (since we didn't print it out with purchase) neither of the two codes we tried worked. Plus, the wifi only works for 2 hours. Which feels stingy given we paid $15 for 2 coffees, and many other coffee shops offer free wifi with no limits. Finally, the owner of the shop came to our table; which had pastries in a bag, not even eating them (shout out Goleta bakery, give them your money, they're super nice) and the owner told me to put them away or hide them in a condescending and rude manner, because apparently our outside food encourages others??? Its pretty contrary to your pages on your website detailing the chill vibes and welcoming environment, the place feels very conditional and strict. Once again, no shade to the baristas, but honestly I don't feel comfortable supporting a manager who's genuinely just very rude and greedy. I hope your profits are worth it. read more

I was a little wary to try Dean at first but as soon as I walked in the door I loved it. Soft music playing, very bright indoor space with ample seating inside/out. The coffee here is definitely one of my favorites in Santa Barbara/Goleta. Everyone is friendly and happy to be of help. Great quick stop for coffee and food! I was hesitant to try a new coffee place, because I'm loyal to Low Pigeon, but I'm so glad I did!! I got an iced oat milk latte, and the pairing of the espresso with the oat milk was exceptional! I also ordered the caprese "sandwich" on a baguette and it was INCREDIBLE. I honestly couldn't stop thinking about it (even now I'm craving it). The tomatoes and mozzarella were fresh, and the baguette had a nice soft crunch, without being too dense or chewy. I'm so happy with the location of this place too! My boyfriend works in one of the warehouses like maybe 100ft away, so it's a great location for those who work nearby! Plus there's lots of parking. Great lunch today at this cool new spot. Iced mocha was full of flavor as was the Caprese sandwich on fresh baguette. Local heirloom tomatoes, delicious mozzarella and rich balsamic made it great but the service made my experience spectacular. This place is a bit of a "hole in the wall." With its location and its surrounding, developing area, you would not have guessed that a good local coffee shop was around, but there is. While the shop itself is small, the way it's set up, including its outdoor seating, it feels very spacious. This is a place I wish would have existed during my undergrad. While it's adjacent to Hollister, it's on a part that is not so busy, unlike if you were to enter old town Goleta - it's relatively quiet, which makes it a perfect location to study, or just a place to read, and enjoy a cup of coffee. Again, the spacious outdoor seating makes it very enticing to just sit. I plan on making another trip with my dog to just enjoy the ambiance. (I also found out that on some of their drinks, such as their Arnold Palmer, get FREE refills. That's a rarity in itself). My go to drink - the Vietnamese Ice Coffee ( VIC ). As someone who has had VIC growing up, I can honestly say that whoever makes their batches there, has a pretty solid recipe. It's not often you can find anywhere here in the 805 area with VIC, let alone a good one, so this was a very happy, incidental finding. There's a perfect blend of coffee (that's never burnt- I've bought the coffee now about 4 times), along with the sweetness of the condense milk that just makes you want to drink more. I won't forget how the moment I drank a sample cup, that I immediately knew what I was getting. In fact, it's my go to all around right now. Not only is the taste addicting, but man, the coffee is strong, in the sense that I only need to drink about a quarter of it, and I feel like I'm ready to tackle the day! As a note to those who are looking for "authenticity" - if you wanted something super real, it would obviously come in the cup that has condense milk, with a coffee filter right on top on the cup that slowly drips the coffee into the condense milk, but again, I would manage your expectations. I can't reiterate enough that this VIC is DELICIOUS for how it is made. I applaud the maker for their take on VIC and for Dean's to helping to get one out their that is enjoyable. $4.50 a cup is not terrible either - if taste is not a factor, which it most definitely is, it's still worth it for two other reasons, 1) support small businesses and 2) it's still cheaper than a grande/medium coffee at chains like Peet's and Starbucks. Great taste for cheaper price? Sold. The VIC is so good to me right now that I can't bring myself to try anything else, so can't say too much about the other things on the menu. Sorry, (but also not sorry). Hahaha. I feel like I don't need to leave a review of the staff, because everyone who goes in already knows the deal with them, but they are awesome people. They don't simply just take your order, make your drink, and be done with it. They really start a conversation and get to know you - even if it's just by knowing what you like to order. :) I have now another place to take people from out of town (post COVID) to enjoy a good VIC! read more

Unfortunately I think this place needs some work. There are no blended coffee drinks. I ordered an iced mocha and it was $1.00 extra for almond milk. So my drink was $6.50 and it was 2/3 ice. I didn't feel I got the value. I will give it another chance since the food looked good. read more

Worst cup of coffee in Santa Barbara. Absolutely horrible flavor. I've tried it a few times given positive reviews and the convenience of the location. The espresso is bitter or bland, the foam textures are absolutely awful. It's like a milk scented cloud on top of your cappuccino here. I got drip coffee instead and immediately threw it away, it tasted like soapy mud. The food here is so inexcusably overpriced for the portion. I got the salami toast because it sounded like it'd be filling. It was one small piece of toast, smaller than a small child's hand, cut in off with a couple slices of albertson's deli salami and a piece of cheese cut in half on top. Staff and owner aren't very friendly either. In fact, the owner seems kinda a negative person. If I were you I'd go somewhere else. It's very overrated and just not good, not sure why it's doing so well. You're better off down the street at Old Town Coffee or across the freeway at the new Dune. Much better product and quality for the price. read more

Our first visit and we really enjoyed the drip coffee and a chocolate chip cookie. However, we can't say enough for their customer service. We were locked out of our van and the kindest employee worked his magic to help us get in. Now if that isn't customer service I don't know what is. Slightly disappointed. I came to this shop rather than Starbucks as I wanted to support better business. I came, ordered my coffee and sat down to begin working and could not seem to get the wifi to work on any device. I asked the girl working and she said "yeah we've been having that issue, try using a hotspot maybe?". The whole point of coming to a coffee shop is to do work on wifi, not use my own data. I then asked the guy working and he stated the wifi had been out/having issues for days. Given the nature of this business and the proximity to a college campus during finals, they should have had signage posted OR notified customers the wifi was out prior to me getting coffee and clearly sitting down to start some work. Instead I had to take my already purchased coffee to another shop, and also buy something from them to use their wifi. It would've been nice to be notified prior to purchasing. read more
