I was walking by and noticed this coffee shop. I needed a drink and decided to go in before continuing my walk. I had never been in so I asked the employee behind the counter for advice. She was sweet and kind to me. She helped me decide on a sweet Vietnamese coffee I believe it was called. It was so good. Much better than Starbucks in my opinion. This shop is super clean and well organized. Great atmosphere for studying due to it being extremely quiet. The iced hazelnut latte lacked the hazelnut flavoring which was disappointing, but still not bad. I asked the cashier for her personal recommendation and she did not disappoint! She recommended an iced coconut/vanilla coffee with oat milk and it was so good! You could really taste the coconut. By far my favorite drink I tasted today. Kinda bummed out after today. Normally a great coffee shop that I frequent about once a week but today I had kind of a strange interaction w the owner. I bought 2 drinks for my girlfriend and I before we sat down to study and about an hour in each of us had an orange as a snack and the owner came over and asked us not to have outside food which I thought was reasonable but unfortunately she did so in quite a condescending way. There were no visible signs asking us not to eat outside food and we apologized immediately after she asked but she brought out the instagram post that said so and pointed to it like we were dumb and should have known. Super disappointed in the turn DEAN has taken recently. They have gotten extremely strict about wifi, food, and seating and it has turned what was once my favorite Goleta coffee shop into an unwelcoming environment. The food and drinks are still good, I just hope they change their policies and attitudes before they lose more customers to the kinder establishments in the area. read more

I stopped by a nearby coffee house for an afternoon cookie and cup of joe, but was disappointed that they didn't have cookies, only pre-packaged bars. I had just driven past Dean 10 minutes before, and hadn't known Dean even existed. I did a U-turn and headed to Dean. Unfortunately, they didn't have a cookie either, but they did have a nice berry scone to eat with my coffee. The coffee was very nice, very similar in taste to the pour-over that I make at home. I enjoyed sitting in the front patio, while enjoying my treat. Plenty of space to feel Covid-safe while eating/drinking. I'll be back! Always enjoy the food and coffee! My favourite is the Audrey iced latte and their special breakfast sandwich with sausage and chipotle honey. The only downside is the service can be pretty cold. I'm not even greeted with a hello or a little smile, as someone who works in the service industry this is a little bizarre to me. Dean: a Coffee Shop is awesome! Much better than the Starbucks and Peet's chains. It has character: a beautiful, airy, and light interior with comfortable seating and benches. A comfortable and relaxing vibe and decor. Lots of outdoor seating, too, which I always prefer. The staff is friendly. The food is delicious. The Caprese sandwich was top-notch: good fresh bread, gourmet mozzarella, tasty tomatoes (not the normally tasteless kind you get at the grocery store). For beverage, the bubble-water-hibiscus-tea was tasty and refreshing. They have a good grab-and-go selection, so I took home their house salad--also fantastic. The large dried cherries are an innovative twist on boring salads and pair perfectly with the feta, almonds, lettuce, and honey-balsamic vinegar. The large portion actually was good for two meals. Amazing little cafe with quality food and drinks. Not to mention the aesthetic of the whole shop is very Instagram worthy. However during our visit our name was called from the counter perusual to pick up our drinks. When i got there there was only one drink so I took it as I assumed it was one of my friends orders. Halfway through our meal the waitress came up to us and said that we had a different tables drink. Totally and accident and I was somewhat embarrassed until the waiter started making it sound like we did it on purpose, kept making snarky remarks, and pressured my friend into saying she can charge us for it. So unprofessional. Customer service is a key requirement and the establishment should reconsider their employees. Update: Thank you Jennifer for responding to my review. I think your cafe is amazing with great potential to become a known hot spot in Santa Barbara. However I do not appreciate you correcting me on what my experience was at your establishment. Regardless of what your employee might have told you I can affirm that all of our drinks had not gotten to the table yet. You are also correct as our group did not pay for the drink as we were about to miss our flight back to San Jose. You are also correct as the employee did not specifically ask for a refund but she kept insinuating for my friend to pay. Additionally, I picked up the drink because I wasn't sure of my friends order however her name was called and given that the drink was the only thing on the counter I decided to take it. Im sorry for my mistake. I know customer service can get very chaotic and I greatly understand the stress of your workers. My only frustration is the WiFi..the internet goes in and out all day and takes forever to reconnect. One of the best iced rose lattes I've had to date. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much from this cafe seeing that it was in the middle of nowhere in a business park. Boy was I surprised when I took my first sip! It was just perfect...everything I want in a latte-not overly sweet, smooth, light. It is walking distance to a few businesses along Hollister which makes it a perfect spot to grab a morning mocha, lunch salad or a afternoon tea! I had had the opportunity to visit twice now, got to enjoy their delicious Baby Arugula Salad and their Hibiscus tea! The tea is my favorite so far!
