This was the first stop on my most recent trip to Portland and I must say - I am really sad I didn't get to stop in one more time before the trek back to Las Vegas. They say the best place to eat is at Grandmas's house...well Dean's Homestyle Cafe is literally Grandma's house! Seated in a quiet little neighborhood, the food here definitely stands out. Bring cash - as credit/debit cards are not accepted. I am still dreaming of the freshly made biscuits and gravy - it melts in your mouth the second you bite into them. Even thinking about it and writing this review makes my mouth water. Trust me, you're not going to get biscuits and country gravy like this! The chicken fried steak was delicious. A perfectly tender steak with the perfect crunch. It doesn't get any better. You can tell a lot of the customers were locals. I have eaten at Deans since they were in Damascus. I am Glad they moved a few years ago to this much larger location on highway 212. The food is great tasting and there is plenty of it. Kind of reminds me if I was making breakfast this is exactly how I would prepare and serve it, and the prices are very reasonable. The chicken fried steak with sausage gravy is my favorite. The biscuits and gravy are yummy also. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. I would recommend Deans to anybody wanting a good old breakfast. read more

The food is always outstanding along with their prices and the staff there are very welcoming and friendly. I personally love their omelets. I garentee you will not leave hungry, but you will probably need a to go box due to the large portions. The only thing people should know is this is a cash only business, and if I remember correctly it is not wheelchair friendly. This place is definitely worth a visit! The food is fantastic and the service is top notch. The restaurant is a very charming older house that has been turned into a restaurant. I'm going to give this a 3 star review even though I couldn't make it inside to eat for the following: A) Parking lot is a death trap, even without the construction around the outside of the parking lot. The title Homestyle Cafe fits them perfectly! There is an initial feeling you are going to Grandma's for a meal as the setting is welcoming to all. Sunday late mornings are a busy time but we were seated quickly after waiting for about 10 minutes. The waitstaff is prompt, courteous, great humor, quick wit & attentive to our every need plus making recommendations that proved to be perfect for our taste buds. This facility is clean, well staffed, & friendly to all ages, family styles & no one goes hungry afterwards. Portions most generous, picture perfect to challenge some of the finer restaurants & most reasonably priced. Highly recommend. Our family of 4 adults each had a different breakfast item & before we knew it, we were sneaking a sample from each others plates to see if their food was equal to ours. Well, another year goes by from my last review on this place...and still no DAMN wheelchair ramp! It would not be that expensive to install a simple ramp. What is the matter with this business? They may be going with the attitude that they don't own the building or house therefore they don't have to have it accessible. Obviously, they don't care about the matter because the person who answered the phone was rude and actually hung up on me! I recommend anyone who is disabled in any way or know of someone who is disabled boycott this business! Walked in and was greeted by old bitter woman. They don't take card and the place is disordered and old. I left immediately.

Came in for breakfast today with a couple of friends for breakfast. The service was excellent, coffee was delicious and hot and our breakfasts were great. I had the Denver omelette with hash browns. Both were perfectly cooked. My buddies each hand two eggs, hash browns with bacon and sausage. Again, perfectly cooked! Great portions too. And not over priced like most restaurants are these days. Our first time here. Portions are huge. If you come here and like the same thing as another person in your party and don't want a huge meal then I suggest doing a split plate. They only charge a dollar. Unfortunately my girlfriend doesn't like chicken fried steak. She got the small biscuits and gravy and I got the chicken fried steak. I gave her half my hash browns and one of my eggs. I also got a pancake instead of toast or a biscuit. It came with my meal. It was pretty delicious. Only bad side is that they only take cash. Always a wait. Cash only. If you love your fellow man, enjoy your meal and make the kind choice not to linger too long. We are here at 10:30. Waits can be up to fourty minutes. Open 6:30am to 3:00pm. Prices about $7.00-$13.00. Dean's serves ridiculously large portions. This is country cooking. They don't mess around with fancy orange slices. Your food is slapped on a plate and dropped in front of you. Service is excellent. 100%. I decided to try one of the specials, the Benedict, as honest as it comes. Dean's is pretty much famous for everything they serve. We also hit up the cinnamon french toast and pork chop special. So far, into our now 30 minute wait, eight people have left, all with leftovers. One lady is taking a whole table and putting on lotion while her omelette remains untouched. She then proceeds to hop on her iPad with her now moisturized hands. Said omelette waits to be eaten. The ten or so parties on the wait list look upon her and her omlette with irritation. Yes, I was one of them. Go to Denny's lady, seating is limited here and the children are begging for food. Have a heart. An hour later we have our food. Remember those big portions? I've never in my life been served three Benedicts, yup, three. There must be at least two cups of hollandaise on this plate. Eggs cooked perfectly added another cup of runny yoke. I never made it to the hashbrowns. All of the meals were straight up, honest, no frills. Pork chops were well seasoned and cooked well. It's pretty good food. Not entirely for me but that's not Dean's, that's me. I'm glad I came back to try Dean's again after all these years. If you like country diner food, I believe you will love Dean's. read more

When a little bit of family came from out of town to get together after my dad passed away, I had to look for yummy food out in the wilds of Clackamas. My plan was for us to eat breakfast, because my dad *LOVED* breakfast , and then visit his spot in Willamette National Cemetary. A yelper and a Clackamas friend pointed me in Dean's direction and I'm glad they did. It is just the kind of hidden, homey place Dad would have loved and it was perfectly located for our plan. Dean's is in a pretty industrial part of Clackamas and ten minutes from the cemetary. On a cloudy cold Sunday morning the parking lot was crowded and there was a bit of a wait outside on the porch but that was fine. It is small and cosy inside the old house, and our servers were friendly, funny, and generally awesome. The group ordered biscuits and gravy, a veggie omelet, ham and eggs, basic eggs and toast, coffee, a coke ( they have pepsi products). I got a mini breakfast with 2 eggs, 2 strips of crispy bacon and a fluffy perfect pancake. I added blueberries for $ .65. Breakfast for 5 people came to $41. A deal I think. Cash only. I'd had a slightly less tasty breakfast a week or so ago for two people for that much money. Our only glitch was at the end our ticket got mixed with someone elses and the kind lady was futzing around with all the change. I think they might need a better system. But even that fit the sorta old timey style of the place. And it got worked out. Dean's is open for breakfast and lunch, serving typical comfy diner fare. Give it a go. P.S. When we got to the cemetary my dad's favorite nephew told my dad that he had missed out! and he shouldha come to eat breakfast with us and apologized for not bringing him any leftover pancakes. We love Dean's Homestyle Cafe. Really great homestyle food at good prices. You need to be hungry to eat here because you get a LOT of excellent food. Breakfasts here is wonderful. So far, I've only managed to have lunch there once, and got a cheeseburger & fries. It was amazing. Sometimes I'll wake up in the middle of the night still thinking about that fantastic burger. Three people, four dishes (just had to get the French toast on the side) and three full take out boxes. Chicken fried steak, pork chop special, and ultimate omelette were Ono-licious (Amazingly yummy for non-Hawaiians)! But our waiter stole the show! Fun, sarcastic, made us all laugh. First time I met a client for brunch and the waitress with black hair (read a couple other negative reviews of her) assumed we were not going to eat a lot because we ordered coffee to start. She then makes a comment about only having 10 tables and it's not a place to hang. We both had less than an hour, I was going to tip her extremely well which half the tables where single diners who probably tipped a buck and called it hood. Very unfortunate I will never be back because first comment I heard from a diner was this is sooo good. This was my first time out since the COVID-19. The business did a good job of following all the guidelines. We came with a party of 5 and the wait wasn't to long maybe 15ish minutes. I love the atmosphere of this place being as it was once a house. They have a very home town vibe. The menu was a good size and the prices were decent. Upon receiving our food the portion sizes were HUGE. For sure could have shared, but the food itself was more on the bland side. Nothing special to write home about but also not bad. I got the chicken fried steak that came with hashbrowns and eggs. The hashbrowns were on a the soggy side and not crispy at all, the eggs were cooked perfect over medium. The gravy didnt have much flavor. Service was nice but very slow. Having trouble finding much to mention that set this place apart from any other breakfast house other than the atmosphere. read more

Dean's is the bomb. Plain and simple. I was about to turn around when I got there and the sign said "cash only" but a patron that was leaving convinced me that it was worth it.
