Absolutely delicious! DeBlaze at 131 is an Italian-American restaurant we discovered online, and we were beyond impressed by the ambiance, service, and, most importantly, the food. We made a reservation online, and upon arrival, we were immediately greeted and seated by the very kind young host. There is also a public parking lot next door that offers free parking in the evenings, which made our visit even more convenient. We were seated upstairs, where our waitress took excellent care of us throughout the evening. She was prompt, friendly, and incredibly helpful when answering our questions and making recommendations. After ordering our drinks, which were deliciously crafted, we were served two rolls accompanied by their homemade olive oil dip. I wish I had asked what ingredients were in the dip because it was absolutely phenomenal! For our appetizer, we chose the House Made Meatballs in their Sunday Sauce. The sauce was unlike any other, but had the perfect balance of tangy, salty, and sweet. For dinner, we ordered the Shrimp and Lobster Florentine, Carbonara, and Smoked Gouda Pierogies. Every dish came out quickly, the perfect temperature, and packed with flavor. We truly had nothing negative to say about our experience at DeBlaze at 131. We were hoping to try one, or more, of their homemade desserts, but unfortunately, we were too full. Thankfully, that's just one more reason to come back and enjoy another incredible meal! read more

My husband and I visited for my birthday dinner, and we had a wonderful experience. Our server, Anna, was friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome throughout the evening. We started with the bruschetta appetizer, which was absolutely delicious. For dinner, I had the chicken marsala, and the portion was huge with incredible flavor. My husband ordered the filet and lobster tail, and both were cooked perfectly. We were seated on the porch, where we enjoyed a beautiful view and a great breeze that made the evening even more enjoyable. Overall really enjoyed this place. I think it is family owned - the owner and his ~10 year old son were sitting at the front of the restaurant.l at the hosts desk. His son took me to my table. The waitress was attentive and very friendly. I ordered the honey pecan crusted salmon and opted for carrots and broccoli as my side. The waitress brought bread and a garlic/oil dish to dip the bread in. The garlic/oil was so yummy, I could've just ate the bread without any dinner! I was also surprised to see I got a large portion of food when the plate came out! Most places these days you don't get much bang for your buck. The salmon was delicious, and so were the carrots and broccoli. My soda was flat and I asked the waitress about it and she fixed it. I ordered the flourless chocolate torte for dessert and liked that too. I wonder what the ingredients were, because there was a bit of spice to it that I couldn't quite place my finger on. The only improvements I think could be made are the ambience was loud. There was a large party in the dining room next to me and they were a loud family with children running and screaming all over the place (I understand this isn't within the realm of control for the restaurant). That itself wasn't unpleasant, it would just be nice if there was some strategic sound dampening. On their website I had signed up for a $10 coupon that never came in my email (not sure if I'm supposed to wait days for it...?). Another thing I noticed on their website is that they charge $10 for a split plate. I'm assuming this means if you come as two people and decide to order one plate of food but split it, they charge for that. That seems really weird. People shouldn't be charged for splitting their food, if that's what that is. They also charge you a transaction fee for using a credit card. Next time I'm in Pittsburgh I'll be coming back. I was SO blown away by this place. I'm not sure why I didn't expect anything crazy but I was pleasantly surprised. We came early, around 5pm on a Friday, and we sat at the bar. Dropped in yesterday around 5:30 and were promptly seated. The restaurant still looks much as it did when it was another restaurant by name. The service was very good with descriptions of the menu items that allowed us to make informed decisions. The stuffed hot peppers were as good as I have had anywhere. The sausage was spicy the way I like and the portion was enough to be an entree. Will go back just to order this again. This place really surprised me! I wasn't expecting it to be so upscale being in Carnegie, but here we are. I met a few coworkers for dinner and we all really liked it. The service was great and the food was delicious. They had a nice fall menu for drinks so I went with the caramel apple sangria. It was so refreshing and tasty. There were 11 of us out for a family celebration @ 5:30 on a Sunday. No problems with our server, very friendly and personable. Ambiance left something to be desired. Condensation from the air conditioning vent would occasionally drop on one member of our party. While waiting for our meals to arrive we heard a whirring sound. Looking around, we saw a man using a drill to mix up the contents of a bucket. We soon smelled some type of fumes, and, watched as this man poured epoxy on a nearby table IN THE MIDDLE OF DINNER SERVICE WITH CUSTOMERS NEARBY in a closed area. One member of our party is pregnant and complained to management only to be told " he will be done soon." What about the fumes that remained? No consideration for customers. Very disappointed with the drinks. I ordered a Tanqueray and tonic, but received a club soda with little to no gin in it. My friend ordered a Captain and Coke and had the same experience--could barely taste any Captain Morgan. We sent the drinks back, expecting it to be corrected, but the replacement was no better than the first. For the prices charged, we expected properly made cocktails. We had a disappointing birthday dinner for my friend tonight. He loves this restaurant so we were very excited to try it out and celebrate him! Upon arriving, our server Stephanie said, "So are we doing one check"? And our friend requested separate checks with many most people paying in pairs. She responded saying "oh wow, okay" and for the rest of the night we were made to feel uncomfortable and an inconvenience for having separate checks or anything we asked. I am disappointed as it was our friends birthday and we spent our dinner worried about upsetting our server with any requests. I'm not someone who usually leaves negative reviews, but unfortunately this was a disappointing Mother's Day experience. I took my mom here for lunch on Mother's Day and we had a 12:45 reservation. What we didn't realize until arriving was that they were still running a special brunch menu until 1 PM before switching to their limited Mother's Day dinner menu. Since we weren't really interested in breakfast food, we decided to order an appetizer and wait until 1 to place our dinner order, which we communicated this right away. To be fair, we were perfectly fine waiting and enjoyed our appetizer. The issue was that once 1 PM came and went, no one returned to our table for quite a while. At around 1:15 someone finally came over to take our dinner order, but then informed us the kitchen was backed up from last-minute brunch orders and that our food would take quite a while. When I asked how long -- mainly because we had already been waiting to order since 1 PM -- rather than acknowledging the delay, we were told that dinner service had only recently started and the kitchen was backed up from late brunch orders. That response honestly rubbed us the wrong way. We had explained our plan when we sat down, and the 15 minutes after 1 PM could have been time for our order to already be in. A simple acknowledgment or apology probably would have changed the tone entirely. Instead, we decided to just pay for our appetizer and leave. We ended up going to another Italian restaurant nearby and had a great meal there. I understand holidays are hectic for restaurants, but better communication and a little more attentiveness would have gone a long way. I took the little ones here for a really nice dinner treat after camp one day. Most of the diners were on a date with significant others so we were the odd ones. The service was really speedy and efficient. And the food was quite delicious. The restaurant has a lot of crosses and Christian symbolism. Not sure if this is related to the one in Bridgeville or not, but it looks like it is. We only went to this location for brunch and it was delicious! The shoestring fries were super crispy and everyone liked their meals. One warning tho. For some reason they put onions on a BLT without mentioning them on the menu. Since it was the Eggs Benedict one, it was annoying to pick them out with hollandaise sauce covering them. The service was great. So badly wanted to love DrBlaze, after years of passing by and following them on social media. Unfortunately, our girls night out wasn't as I had hoped it would've been. We really struggled with our server. She was very pleasant, but she brought out the wrong thing at least twice and charged one of our cards the wrong bill. My friend ordered the $42 espresso crusted pork chop and it came out so overdone that it was inedible. Once we notified the staff, they quickly prioritized getting her a different dish of her choosing. The good: the space is beautiful. They have plenty of space to host larger parties, they have both indoor and outdoor seating, and a quaint bar. The happy hour prices from 4-6 of 1/2 price wine glasses and draft beers is a good deal. We loved the chicken parm, the wedding soup, and the lemon blueberry cheesecake. The bruschetta, although beautifully plated, didn't seem like it had flavors that worked together. The risotto balls were amazingly cheesy, crisp on the outside, and covered in the flavorful house sauce. We had our wedding rehearsal dinner for twelve there last Friday evening. I had made the reservation with Doug, the very nice owner, a month prior after he graciously showed me the restaurant. At Doug's suggestion, I called ahead that day to have some appetizers ready when we arrived and they were there, hot, fresh and delicious when my guests arrived. Four of us had dinner last night at DeBlaze and it was a great experience. Our waitress was very attentive and the food was excellent. We enjoyed everything from the bread and garlic oil, to appetizers, to main dishes, and desserts. Especially want to highlight the desserts, which are homemade. The lemon blueberry cheesecake came with a generous serving of whipped cream, and the cake was so light, creamy, and perfectly sweet, with a graham cracker crust. Wow! DeBlaze: Where the Only Thing Ablaze Is Your Wallet What used to be a reliable go-to for decent eats has gone full acrobatic -- double somersaulted a school of Great Whites and belly-flopped into pretension. Prices have gone through the roof like a microburst over Fiori's. Appetizers are now $14-$20. Standard pasta dishes? Creeping up on $30. Add a 3% credit card fee and a $10 "split plate" charge, and suddenly you're paying dahntahn steakhouse prices in Carnegie. Two guests at our table ordered the carbonara -- twice, technically. The first attempt arrived stone cold, topped with sad, boiled chicken that looked like someone peppered it as a dare. Not lukewarm -- cold. Like it had been plated at noon and left in the window as a model. Both plates. At $28 each. Our server, who was gracious and clearly mortified, took them back and promised fresh ones. What returned were... suspicious. The two plates were now seemingly one reheated mess, scrambled together in the same pan, then slopped back into separate bowls. One had all the bacon, peas, and vegetables. The other? Just oily pasta and broken sauce. Not even a rogue pea in sight. No effort to even fake it -- just lazy, obvious, kitchen corner-cutting. Honestly, I was shocked they didn't apply their shiny new $10 split fee to that little Frankenstein experiment. I guess even they realized charging for re-dividing a botched reheat would've been a bit much. The flavor? Gone. The texture? Wrecked. The trust? Vaporized. It was like they tried to fix failure with a frying pan and a middle finger. To their credit, both carbonaras were comped -- but they went uneaten. And despite the disaster, no one from the kitchen or management bothered to check in, apologize, or offer a hint of accountability. Our waitress, again, was fantastic -- but she was the only one in the building who seemed remotely aware a meltdown had occurred. So yeah, if you're looking to drop $80+ on cold pasta that returns as a science fair entry, and to pay premium fees for the honor, DeBlaze is waiting with open arms and a warmed-up skillet. I struggle with this review because I really wanted to like this place. My party of 4 arrived at our 4:30 reservations last night and were greeted at the door by the hostest. We were guided upstairs to a big dining room and seated promtly. It wasn't very bust so my son and I decided to head down to the bar to get a couple of drinks. The bartender greeted us warmly and I ordered 2 old fashioned drinks made with Rittenhouse Rye. The bartender took a few minutes to make the drinks and delivered them to us. Now I've been making these drinks for years and order them out all over Pittsburgh. I could tell right away they weren't right. They were whiskey with two cherries and an orange wedge. That's it. No muddling. No bitters. No simple syrup. You couldn't even squeeze the orange?! I'm not one to complain so I waited on the bill. I heard the bartender discussing with a coworker about the type of whiskey I ordered and finally the bill arrived. $37.50!!!!!!!!!!!! I almost fell over lol. Never in my life!!! I threw two 20's on the bar and headed upstairs. It really didn't get much better. My wife ordered the lobster with the mushroom risotto and broccoli, and I ordered the blackened mahi-mahi with risotto and broccoli. Our entrées were good, and the risotto was the star, but the broccoli was undercooked and crunchy. You couldn't cut it with a knife. We let the waitress know and I ordered the glazed carrots instead, and my wife wasn't offered an alternative. She doesn't care for carrots . We were finished eating and talking by the time the carrots came out and nothing was taken off the bill. This place definitely needs some work but has potential. There's really no reason to go back. Our service was great. The food was very far below average. We ordered two apps that were mediocre. The calamari was very chewy and the bruschetta was good. Three entrees were just bad. The salmon was cooked well but very little flavor. The mahi mahi was very much overcooked and dry. The Teres Major beef cut had zero seasoning on it. Overall the dining experience was very much below expectations with a bill of over $200 with tip. I would probably not return. read more

Honestly we have been coming here for years, the service has just steadily declined since they moved into their Carnegie location. Food is always good but the service and price is what is going to stop us from returning. Went for brunch and ordered the breakfast BLT, took one bite and realized that it didn't have bacon in it. One of three ingredients in a BLT was missing and when it was sent back they simply just added bacon to the already bitten sandwich. Chef stated "oh I thought I put it on the sandwich." Nothing new and nothing was comped, the fact that the waitress and the cook thought that was okay really shows how professional they are and how little they have been trained. This was just the last instance of bad service over the years, not much has improved and frankly for what we are spending here it's just not worth it anymore. Been coming here for years (since the 131 days) and have always left satisfied. It was then-boyfriend now husband's ideal of an upscale meal out in his local cute suburb. I will say the menu has always been on the limited side and yes, it isn't cheap, especially if you drink. Cocktails are always strong so at least they are equitable for the high prices. This location used to be occupied by a very nice restaurant with a unique and well-executed menu, but the owners retired and I believe DeBlaze moved into this spot... The location is decent, but watch your step walking in, don't trip over the door's threshold!! The menu looked OK, but I wasn't "wowed" by it. I ordered a salad to start while I tried to decide what else I might be interested in. The salad came out pretty quickly and it was made of really nice and fresh ingredients. But I needed some pepper for it and had to wait quite a while, as the bartender was busy with other customers, just to ask for some. They have a decent wine- by-the-glass list and I opted for a chardonnay. After my salad I decided to just cash out and leave. Our first visit since DeBlaze moved to the heart of Carnegie. We loved the original location and the new location doesn't disappoint. Sophisticated decor upstairs and a great bar downstairs. I'm excited to go back for happy hour. I ordered the special, bbq braised short rib. It was incredible. My date got a filet and potato. Also excellent. The reason for four stars was that the steak wasn't cooked to the temp ordered. But our service was great. Doug stopped by to say hi and make sure everything was made right. Right off the bat let me say that the food was very good. The risotto balls were excellent. Service was very slow and the server got our orders a bit mixed up. They ran out of lobster on a Saturday night which was very disappointing and substituted 3 shrimp in its place with the steak and still charged $58. not fair!!! They also ran out of bread at 7:30 at night. I'm assuming this is a newer place and they are still working out the kinks. Hopefully, they will step it up once they get their groove. Not a fan of the tables so close together. We were so close to the other couple that we felt we were involved in their arguments about their marriage. yikes. This is not what I came out to dinner for. Also, upstairs there was a line for the bathroom and the server didnt even take notice that the line never moved. The door was actually accidentally locked and the staff should have taken notice there was a problem.
