    Pickle Chips

We had a party of three and went on a Wednesday evening. The place has plenty of seating, and has a nice looking patio area. Biggest complaint is about the service. It took 20 minutes to get our drinks - two beers and one mixed drink (simply Tito's). My husband ended up ordering a second beer and it took about 15 minutes for that one. We got the fried pickle chips as an appetizer. Could have been crispier but weren't the worst. He got the salmon as his entree, I got the crab cakes. The rice that came on the side was very dry. The crab and salmon were good, and so were the sweet carrots. We also ordered their special brown butter cake as the waitress said it was very good. It was delicious and helped save this review. The inside was soft and the outside had a sweet and sugary crust. It was topped with vanilla ice cream and caramel. Very rich and delicious! This place might be great if you're just going to sit at the bar, although it's hard to tell.

Pros: I like the location, atmosphere (like an at-home type feel meets sports bar), roomier than it looks from the outside, parking is convenient and good for conversation for our group of 5 (at least they liked their food). Cons: I wasn't a big fan of the wait staff as they weren't very welcoming or friendly (waitress particularly didn't seem to be people-person, seemed flat). I got the crab cakes, rice and green beans $24.99 - it would be a fair price if it weren't so tasteless (none of it had any flavor) and VERY dry rice & crab cakes (did not taste like crab cakes).

The best bartender ever ! Shawna .. is amazing !! What a wonderful night ! She's amazing!

Mom's Smothered Chicken. Not dry had a nice mixture of mushrooms, bacon, and cheese. The 3 potatoes were undercooked and very bland. The asparagus was also nicely cooked but also bland. Solid burger. Minimal seasoning. It is just a burger. Overall the food was kind of bleh. Solid drinks and nice service from the female bartender that doubled as our hostess. Our waitress was training a new employee clearly not happy about. Service wasn't the greatest. The place was very clean and open. Smelled nice from the fresh basil plants that were perched jn the open area/ out door seating area. Four outa ten probably won't go again.

This family restaurant is a few minutes away from the Roxian Theater so we decided to check it out before a show. We arrived around 5:30 and were seated right away. Shortly after that, there was a wait and a long line. The service was excellent on a very busy night. They have a decent beer selection on tap and the food came out pretty fast. We ordered the fish tacos and the reuben. The tacos were sort of skimpy on filling to be honest and the fish was not well seasoned. They forgot the cabbage filling entirely and we had to ask for it after they brought them. The reuben was pretty good but really needed more corned beef for the $14 price tag. This place really packs them in on Saturday nights. We sat in the bar area and could see all of the families coming in with big parties. They run a tight ship and get the orders in quickly and efficiently. We enjoyed our visit but would probably order something different.

Enjoyed the zucchini. Service was good. Just a bar. Nothing special about the bar not even the zucchini.

Really tired menu. One can eat only so many French dips. This place really needs a new chef with some creativity and skill.

Downey's House provided the local spot I needed. An ice cold Yuengling on draft went down very well, and while I didn't find pierogis on the menu, I settled for a phenomenal bowl of spaghetti & meatballs. Local marinara & meatballs made with the same recipe of the old Main Hotel that was in Carnegie for nearly 100 years. That bowl of pasta was SCRUMPTIOUS and just what I was after. I even talked my lovely wife into doing up her salad 'Pittsburgh style', which means adorning the salad with fries. And yes, it's as good as it sounds. Thrown in a protein like grilled chicken and that is a banger of a meal. Great dining area with a square-shaped bar and TVs with sight-lines in any direction. The service is friendly and helpful, and prices are probably lower than at some chain-y eatery that just makes your food via assembly line. It's local and sensational!

Please see my attached photos for the dinner menu in May 2026. My husband and I have eaten two meals here. The service during our first visit was prompt, while the service during our second visit was a bit slower but always courteous. Here are my husband's and my ratings for our foods across both visits: Bread - 4.5 stars - This bread was free, and it came with olive oil. It was fresh and tasted good. Strawberry salad - 4.5 stars - The mixed greens, strawberries, pecans, and goat cheese were fresh and tasted very good. I liked that the right amount of vinaigrette dressing was added. Soup of the day - 4 stars - The soup was cream of mushroom. I received a large cup of it, and I liked it. Dynamite shrimp - 4.5 stars - My husband said that this appetizer was his favorite food here. A large number of fried shrimps were coated in a slightly spicy sauce. Tuna poke - 3.5 stars - The tuna, avocado, and mango tasted plain, so we added much salt. The wonton chips look slightly burned. Jumbo lump crab cake dinner - 4.5 stars - This entree contained one large crab cake that was very meaty and flavorful (5 stars). On the side was asparagus (4.5 stars) and rice (4 stars). Filet mignon - 4.5 stars - My husband ordered this filet mignon twice. The chef cooked the first steak as my husband had requested, but the second steak was slightly overcooked. Nonetheless, he enjoyed the flavors of the steak and the sides of garlic mashed potatoes and green beans with the right amount of butter and pepper. Chilean sea bass - 3.5 stars - The fish was tender and came with pineapple fried rice and Asian slaw. Other important information: The dress code appears to be smart-casual. My husband and I, as well as many other customers, wore jeans. The restaurant charges a convenience fee for using credit cards. We stopped before going to an event at the Roxian Theater. The place is big. they have a decent size bar. There's a darts game and some other games, outdoor covered patio, they also have a banquet room besides their main dining room. Our waitress was really sweet but service was slow. The menu is huge. Lots of options for all ages crowd, families and there were some vegetarian options as well. We ordered food to share. the calamari appetizer which tasted OK, but some of the pieces weren't cooked thoroughly so they were really rubbery. We also ordered the blackberry salmon which again was tasty, but the salmon was overcooked. And both of our side salads were drenched with dressing and must've sat in the back for at least 20 min. to the point the lettuce was soggy. I don't know if this was just an for the kitchen staff but food wise was not the best especially for a $45 bill!

Our cocktails were subdued but very tasty. First we were served a pea soup shooter--we all wanted a whole bowl. Then a couple of appetizers--the 'compressed pineapple' with frisse was interesting with a flavorful dressing, but not too sweet. I got the special, seared tuna with a shrimp over udon noodles and a Hoisin sauce with some sort of wasabi. Again, the flavors were unique but not overpowering. Also got the chicken with couscous and peas. Sounds plain but it was anything but plain. The other mains were just as good. We finished off with three desserts. The carrot cake got rave reviews from my dining partners (not my style). The Creme Brulle was very large and perfectly cooked. But the best dessert was the deconstructed Smore. The chocolate, the merengue, the graham crumbs, a little ice cream. Oh, I'm going to be dreaming of this dessert for a long time! The price is also quite high for pittsburgh standards--over 100/person--but well worth it for a special occasion!
