First time visiting. I'd give it 3.5. Place has a huge menu with lots of choices. Decent happy hour deals as well. I got the fried shrimp happy hour special to start. It was okay, not great. I then ordered a burger. Their go to is medium well, I asked for medium and they obliged. I got the mushroom, onion, swiss burger but changed the Swiss for cheddar. The burger was cooked perfectly but lacked flavor IMO. Others in our group ordered wraps and breakfast burgers which they liked. Then two folks ordered quesadillas, they were MASSIVE! I mean just huge. Place was reasonably priced and the gentleman that waited on us did a fantastic job. He was very good. We had a group of 10 and would not split the bill which was frustrating. Next time I'll try something else other than that burger. I also understand that the sangria is really good but didn't try it.

Tavern In The Hills, hidden on a hill down a two-lane residential road, can be easy to miss if you are not looking for it. However, you should not do that, for this place is a hidden gem. We started with the Bavarian Pretzel Sticks, which were good. Then, we got our entrees. I got the BBQ Pork Pierogies, as I wanted to try some pierogies, which Pittsburgh is known for, while my brother got the Tavern Quesadillas. My BBQ Pork Pierogies were savory and delicious, and my brother enjoyed his Tavern Quesadillas. In short, Tavern In The Hills is a hidden gem and I strongly recommend it.

Visiting from FL ( but grew up in West Mifflin) Looking for some local flavor. Friendly tavern atmosphere. Had the Polish Platter which had perogies almost as good as my mom made, tasty kolbassi and kraut. Onions were overcooked but so what. You'll love this place.

This was my first time visiting and we had a pleasant visit. The restaurant has nice stained glass windows that give it a nice tavern feel. We dined in the restaurant and were told we could sit wherever we liked. I ordered the Phoenix Burger which included beer cheese and caramelized onions. It was served with fries which were ok. My husband ordered the Peppers and Bacon Pierogies per the recommendation of the waitress. He cleared his plate! I tried a bite of my mother in laws steak Pierogies which were also good. The restaurant is not fancy but was nicely decorated for the holidays with a wreath and poinsettias. The wait staff was dressed in sweatshirts which gave a very casual atmosphere. Parking available on the side of the tavern.

Pierogi Pizza. Sorry for the sour cream smudge.

Kind of a neighborhood spot but the food was tasty and the service was very good. I had the pizza shown and my wife had the bacon and peppers pierogi. Worth a try.

A hidden gem batting well above its class…read more You'll find it tucked off the side of Old Clariton Rd, locals will remember the American Legion that used to be here. Parking is a breeze and on site. As we walked in, we were greeted and immediately seated. The hostess gave us the option of a high top or bench seat. Inside was exceptionally clean. Seating was nicely spaced around the bar, perfect amount of spacing to not feel cramped and able to hear your date/guests. You can get away with casual dress (I wore shorts and a tee shirt) but I would not feel overdressed in nice clothes either, it could easily accommodate both. Our waitress was super nice. Actually, every staff member was very friendly, which made for a very pleasant atmosphere. We started with a pretzel, both the honey mustard and cheese sauce were delicious. I ordered the summer special "backyard burger" which is a 7oz char-grilled steak burger. My wife got the Angus with a salad. Everything came out as ordered and was delicious! Service was excellent. This is a definite return for us!

My only complaint was that the music was too loud; we were sitting beneath a speaker. Though when I asked if it could be turned down slightly, they immediately obliged. By then, the crowd had thinned out and that helped. (The pork shank will bring me back!)
