The exact demographic is puzzling to me. The shop has somewhat of a metaphysical vibe, with AA/spiritual/motivational tchotchkes thrown in. Don't get me wrong, the business owner seems friendly, the store has been around for a long time, so she probably has a devoted following. But it took me, personally, five years to give in to my curiosity to see what the place was all about. Think New Renaissance meets hospital gift shop, with a spiritual reading thrown in for good measure. There is a wide assortment of spiritual and self-help books, New Age and Celtic CDs, lots of branded coins and trinkets, bookmarks and the like. I think you should check the place out, even if it's only just once. The store has survived its current location for a number of years, and obviously continues to draw folks in. A few of the other artists who use the shop are more edgy or masculine. I believe they all make the ceramics in the back of this very store. I was thrilled to find out local ceramic artists Mary Carroll and Alexandria Cummings have joined forces to open Fine Things, a ceramics studio and home decor retail space. Their website mentions the retail space will eventually offer their own ceramics, as well as some of their favorite home goods. I can't wait to see this business bloom into a bustling hub for ceramic enthusiasts and artisans - it's just what the neighborhood needs! The studio offers a membership-based workspace for less than $250 a month, providing ceramicists with 24/7 access to a spacious and well-lighted environment equipped with shared tools and resources. The owners are hoping to create a collaborative community where artists can hone their craft and potentially build a following of their own. I haven't had an opportunity to speak with anyone who is using the space, but I am definitely intrigued. At this price... who knows? I might try my hand at becoming a ceramicist. I am such a huge fan of both Mary Carrol and Alexandria Cummings' work, and I can't wait to have a spot to purchase their work right in my neighborhood! I was offered a small ($3) or large bag of soil to purchase to do myself at home. Still glad I made the purchase and my cactus fits right in!
