GREAT DINER! My favorite place locally for breakfast and I'll keep going back. Their biscuits and gravy, while not always on the menu, are the best north of the Mason Dixon. Their Benedict in all forms of fantastic. Their specials are none like any other and alone are worth the trip in to see what's new. On a spontaneous trip into Salem, we were looking for a good breakfast spot, and after some yelp research we found Debs Diner. From the outside it may not look like much, and it is a really small place, but the food is probably some of the best breakfast food I have ever eaten. The peanut butter and fluff French toast is a gift from the heavens. I also had the Spanish breakfast wrap and was very pleased with it. I would highly recommend stopping here if you are in the area. read more

I was working in Salem the other day, did a search on my iPhone (love it!) for a local restaurant. Deb's came up and was within walking distance. It does still say "Pilgrim" on the outside but once inside the menus let me know I had the right place. It's small but comfortable. Very much a "diner" experience with the grill behind the counter so you can watch your food being cooked Although lunch time, I went with an omelet, partly because I didn't see anything special on the lunch menu. I got a Western with wheat toast and homefries. Everything was good and the price was very reasonable. No mistaking that this is a favorite of the locals. There was a great deal of bantering going on, all good natured. Most of the other patrons were on first name basis. It makes for a fun time. I wouldn't go out of my way for Deb's but if your in the neighborhood it's worth a stop. read more

Great hometown feel. Service is amazing. The food is cooked right in front of you. A menu with a lot of food yet it's very unique. Well I have to say they have fire food, but the wait staff has a stick shoved up there ass 24/7, if I were the owner I would tell each and everyone of them to have a nice day. I went today to attempt to have food where they have the signs saying serving breakfast all day as well as the open sign on but then they also had a sorry were closed sign. People were inside moving around lights on and everthing so I go in just to simply see if it's open, so I do, doors unlocked I just poke around and simply as are you closed right now. She goes yes and then proceeds to point at the sorry were closed sign with the BITCHIEST face, she looked like a new born baby who was rolling in there shit for 30 minutes. And she was trying to hint to me that I can't read like look you bum, you are missing teeth, you couldn't keep up with the simple task of brushing your teeth twice a day so next time you think of trying to educate somebody when you have contradicting signs going and in a rude ass manner think twice that just because you may be having a shitty day your supposed to try to make others enjoy there's. read more

Last night, I desperately wanted diner food. Alas, I live in downtown Boston. When a day trip took us to Salem, I saw my chance. This was everything I wanted and more. Delicious pancake, corner beef hash, scrambled eggs - all great. Highly recommend sitting at the counter, where you can see the magic happen on the griddle. Would absolutely return! read more

All i can say is WOW..the food was really good along with the proportions and the service. My wife and i were in the Salem area for about a week and ate there 3 times after we found out about them from yelp. We would have eaten there every morning had we known. Their muffins are huge and delicious especially when you have them put it on the grill. Highly recommended. read more

Deb's Diner is so authentic! You get the boxcar diner setup and the complete diner feel. It has parking in the back, really reasonable prices, excellent food, and the cook we had today was not only personable but not bad to watch cook either. The waitress was very friendly and attentive but made you feel comfortable too! I definitely recommend this diner to anyone visiting Salem and for any local too, although they seemed to know all about this place already. read more

Quantity over quality is why this diner gets a five star ratings. I visited this restaurant for mother's day. An older woman whom I think maybe the owner was very rude. Keep giving us dirty looks and never acknowledge us in way. She never said Happy Mothers Day. I was very disappointed. Stopped in for a quick breakfast and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of food and superb service. Coffee I have to say, was very tasty and included with free refills. Looking at the various items on the me menu I opted for something i have had in a while, an omelette. I got the Denver omelette (ham, onion, and pepper) with toast and home fries. It's probably one of the best omelette I ever had and that's a big statement. The home fries were cooked just right, with a nice color and tenderness to them. First time here, ordered 2 eggs with and cheese and the banana French toast. The eggs were full of ham. My potatoes were raw when I asked For them to be well done. My French toast was okay but had tons of melted whip cream on. My friend ordered 2 eggs with sausage and a banana pancake with white toast she got wheat toast and kielbasa not sausage her pancake was raw in the middle our drinks did not have ice in them. I am extremely disappointed in the restaurant I would not recommend. read more

This place is now known as the Pilgrim Diner. It has good food fairly cheap, cramped but seldom completely full with friendly locals watching the tourists go by. I go late night on the weekend (Fri/Sat) where they are open 24 hours - they are strictly breakfast and burger. I like the place, It has my vote for a late night haunt. read more

This is a great spot. I had the one egg with hash. Greasy goodness! The home fries were amazing. Hubby had Debs sandwich and helped me with my toast and side of bacon. This is definitely not a place for someone who is calorie counting for sure but it's a great for someone looking for a good old-fashioned breakfast in a neat little spot. Came for breakfast. No complaints about the food or service. Cooks behind the counter cursing about this and that no problem because we didn't expect the Four Seasons. Everything in the joint, however, needs scrubbing and a coat of paint. We stopped at the front door and hesitated about going in because the place looks like such a dump. Old is one thing, grubby is another. We're glad we didn't let the look of the place keep us away, but it's hard to believe that what you are eating in the midst of grunge is ok. read more

Found a new can't miss staple of Boston-area dining. The restaurant is small, but with a high-turnover and plenty of counterspace, there wasn't any issue with customers waiting. We sat at the counter and I was thrilled with that decision. You can see all of the food as it is being made and it makes you want to sample everything they have to offer. I witnessed a stack of pancakes being made that were, no joke, a foot in diameter, and they looked delicious. The waitstaff is very nice and accomodating. Coffee is good and refilled generously. When I saw the southern wrap on the menu, I knew I had to have it. It was your basic breakfast burrito with bacon, egg, choice of cheese, and southern style gravy inside. Out of this world! Husband got a blueberry waffle with a generous helping of blueberries on top and a fist full of butter. They had your run-of-the-mill syrup to pour at your own leisure. If anyone is in the Salem area or driving through, it's easy to find, cheap, quick, and delicious! read more

My husband and I came back to try something new and we were pretty satisfied. The only issue was the waitress did not write down our order, so she ended up messing it up. We are by no means picky and ate what we we served happily, but other people might not be as easy going as us haha. i ordered a half order of french toast with strawberries and bananas & a sausage egg and cheese on a bagel. My husband ordered their southern benny again because he loved it last time. The waitress walked away before he could ask to try a half order of their boston cream french toast but decided not to say anything because his one meal would be enough. When the food was ready my french toast was correct and yummy. The do not use fresh strawberries, they use the kind with the syrup, which was good but overwhelmingly sweet after a while. My sausage egg and cheese had bacon instead, which I don't mind so I ate it. Taylor got sausage benedict instead of the southern, which again isn't too bad he just isn't a fan of sausage. The man who was cooking was friendly and nice, and although our order wasn't correct, we still enjoyed it. As a tip I will just say to be very clear about what you want, especially if you're craving something hardcore, haha nobody wants to be let down in that state of mind! read more

This is a amazing diner and would give 10 stars if possible...have gone in about 3 times cause just moved to the area..and everytine have gotten above average sevice (2 different waitresses) very attentive and always kept my coffee hot and full. The cook there is phenomenal..i ordered different items each time and was not disappointed AT ALL..the waitress on a wednesday (jen) was up beat and extremely friendly amd same goes for the cook(jane) ...i got a meat lovers omelet that day and it was HUGE....home fries cooked to perfection and everything was hot a fresh...came in in my lunch break around 1230ish .... The other 2 times was when they were open all night..which is awesome!! The waitress (alicia) was friendly and joked around and had us laughing..(jane) was the cook then also and again food was nothing less than perfection...the smores french toast omg was out of this world...(a new item in the special board) the place was busy but still had the best food and amazing service..bacon was perfect also...i also got the southern benny and again nothing short of perfection..i have and will continue to tell everyone i talk to about it and recommend to every one...small diner with comfort food...a MUST if your in the area..thanks again jane for great food and your positive attitude(even at 2am lol) and jen and alicia for the great service!! 10 stars in my book read more

Deb's Diner is highly recommended. I was first introduced to Deb's Diner when I was in college and frequently made visits Friday nights after a night out with friends. Usually other college aged people would be at Deb's at this time which served a fun atmosphere. Nowadays I stop by more conventional hours and it still remains one of my favorite places to eat in Salem. Fantastic breakfast food, cheap, great service. Meal of choice: scrambled eggs, bacon, home fries, wheat toast and a corn muffin. read more

Went here because I was in the area and was looking for a breakfast place on the way to Salem. I ordered the Kielbasi omelette which was really great and my husband ordered the boston cream french toast which was outstanding. It is a pretty small place but we were lucky that a table was clearing out as we arrived. Everything was really fresh tasting and the waitresses were great to us. read more

Ammmmmazzzzinnnnggg. Some people might look at Debs as a dive but you have to give it a chance before judging its small lot. They have the most amazing large pancakes the size of a large round plate. My boyfriend described them as buying into a cloud they were so perfectly fluffy. As soon as you walk in you smell the heavenly sent of bacon in the air. The staff were all polite and the service was quick. While on vacation in Salem we had chosen beforehand several places to try breakfast and instead we picked debs for at least three mornings. Coven is another great breakfast spot close by but had a more trendy art deco feel but an excellent tea selection. But if your looking for some hearty homey food then Debs is where you want to go. The home fries are great and definitely give their egg sandwich on an English muffin a try. Honestly I want to move to the area just for debs. Went for the first time yesterday and it is a good old school diner. I had an ommelette that was very good and the home fries were excellent my son had corned beef hash and eggs it was great too and he couldn't finish it. They close at 1p.m. mon-fri, so good for breakfast and early lunch. THIS IS HUGE!!! I found out that on Fri and Sat nights they open at 11 p.m. and stay open til 3 am!!!!! The Northshore has squat for late night eating options so this is a big thing for me. read more
