Deck Buddy just did a large project at my house that spanned several weeks. I had debated whether to replace my existing wooden deck with composite boards, or simply to coat the deck with a paint product to give it a new life, After consulting with several companies and realizing that several of the deck boards would need to be replaced anyway, I opted to put composite decking on the floor and top rails. To save money, I chose to put the coating product on the rails and fascia. The owner, Doru, was very helpful discussing our options. We had several conversations before we signed the contract to iron out every detail. There were some problems initially with the first crew that arrived. Suffice it to say they were not consistently showing up for work and when they started to lay down the new decking, I noticed the cuts they were making were pretty poor and they did not flash the deck to prevent moisture from collecting where the deck attaches to the house . That's the bad news. The good news is I called the owner, he came out and looked at the work, he dismissed the crew and promised to fix everything himself right away. After Doru and his partner Alex arrived, the whole project turned around dramatically. They had to pull up nearly every board but they fixed the poor cuts and installed the flashing. They worked quickly but also paid attention to detail. There were a couple areas that needed some custom work upon further review, and they were happy to implement my ideas without adding to the cost. The deck looks great now! They then coated the porch, railings, and fascia with their paint product. It looks phenomenal! They applied several coats and were careful not to spill any paint. If you old deck needs to be spruced up, I would highly recommend Deck Buddy. Doru stands behind his work and the final product is fantastic. It was also about half the price I was quoted by Deck Helmet. He told me the original crew that came out is no longer working for him, so that shouldn't be a concern going forward. Response time was typically not immediate and It is not always easy to get a hold of Doru on the phone, but he would always return emails within a day. It's typically because he is on a job working and doesn't have time to take calls during the day. Sure, it's nice when companies have a secretary or multiple employees that can respond to questions immediately, but that's overhead and those companies quoted me an extra $5k for the same project. For the money I saved, I certainly didn't mind having to be a bit more patient communicating. Bottom line, if you hire Deck Buddy and can deal with the fact that they are a small company, you will get a tremendous value. I am completely satisfied with the final product and would absolutely use Deck Buddy again. I wasn't sure after the first few days, but I am convinced that the owner Doru stands behind his work and would have worked on my deck another week for free if that's what it took to make me happy. read more

I wish I could give Doru and Deck Buddy MORE than five stars for the amazingly beautiful restoration and painting work that he did on our large, two story deck. Our deck is 18 years old, and has been sadly neglected, never having been properly sealed and stained since it was originally built. We had rotting, molded, splintered and stripped bare boards. Doru knew exactly what to do, and in a cost effective manner. He recommended the correct product, and gave great suggestions to update the look of the deck. We went from a solid redwood color to a much more modern two color style. Doru called or texted each day to make sure we knew exactly where he and his crew were in the process, and what time to expect them the next day. They were perhaps the most dependable, polite and pleasant contractors I have ever had the pleasure of working with! They showed up exactly when they said they would and completed the job exactly when they said they would. They left things immaculately clean too. Upon our walkthrough, there were a few minor details we wanted to address from areas where the crew had painted, after which Doru personally spent a 10 hour day hand painting every single area of concern (there weren't many!), as well as hand painting all our trim lines again, just because he wanted them straighter than I would have thought possible. Doru did an awesome work restoring our deck! He was prompt, professional & our deck looks like one you would see on a magazine after he was done! We thought his restoration cost was fair too. I asked 3 contractors come to give me an estimate for our 17 year old deck that had become splinter heaven & had totally unsafe wobbly railings. One contractor wanted to overhaul the entire deck because he said it's in really bad shape. The estimate was $18k. Another contractor said that it is in bad shape but it can be restored. His estimate was about $1,000 more than Doru's cost for the same exact restoration work that Doru said he would do on his estimate. Naturally, we went with Doru, & we are so pleased that we did. It was just a bonus that he was a really nice guy too. Thank you so much to Deck Buddy for restoring our deck. My 2 small kids are especially overjoyed that we can hang out more & they can play on the deck without being interrupted with splinter extractions or limited playtime on the deck because of mommy's worries of the deck not being safe with wobbly railings. Doru and his team restored our 25+ year old deck to look like new again. I can't offer high enough praise for the quality in workmanship and professionalism that Doru and his team extended to us for this job. Our 25+ year old deck was in bad shape but totally replacing it was just not an option for us. Deck Buddy comes in and first power washes the entire deck, then they return and replace all the wood that's too far gone with new boards. Finally they paint the entire deck with several coats of a special paint/sealant that fills in any remaining small cracks, looks fantastic and is warranted for 10 years ! Our deck looks like it's brand new and it cost us a very small fraction of would it would have cost to replace it. Plus for the next 10 years we have no maintenance issues to consider for it. We've dealt with many home repair business and people over the last 30 years, but these guys are among the best we've every hired. I called several contractors for estimates on refurbishing my 900 sq. ft. deck. Doru replied and gave me an estimate very quickly. He was excited about the work his company does. One other contractor replied a few days later and came by to do an estimate. He seemed more interested in selling me other services (house power washing, etc.) but said he would write up the deck estimate and send it to me. No other contractor replied. I agreed to use Deck Buddy and set an estimated date for start of work. It rained almost all of May, which I'm sure put him behind, but his team showed up a week early to start on my deck. His crew cleaned and pressured washed, sanded, installed protection for the house and nearby plants, replaced bad boards, spray painted and roll stained, cleaned up and were done in 3 days. The deck now looks as it did when installed 10 years ago. By the way, the one other contractor who did reply sent me an estimate a month later including estimates for his other services. We are so glad we listened to the other reviews here on Yelp and went with Doru (the owner) to refurbish our 20 year old deck! Other contractors didn't seem to understand what we wanted but Doru hit the nail on the head! Very responsive and great with all communication, Doru came out to access our deck and recommended replacing some boards and adding some structural components to make the deck more sturdy before coating the whole thing with long-lasting Deck Helmet. Due to some issues with neighbors and our HOA (which Doru navigated very professionally and quickly) we decided to do part of the deck with a semi-transparent stain that also looks great even if it won't last as long as the deck helmet. Doru worked diligently through high temperatures and the project was finished ahead of schedule and it looks like we have a brand-new deck! We couldn't be more pleased with the work. read more

Doru is a gentleman and a great person to work with. He was always onsite during our services. This is exactly the kind of guy you want to hire. He has done several jobs around my house over the past three years. His work is excellent and he does right the first time. He is a very hard worker, and he wants you to be happy with his work. He is a good communicator, shows up on time, and get the job finished n the time he tells you. He is very clean I his working methods. If he around more than a day, he cleans up his project and tools overnight. He his meticulous about his work. My decks and house siding have never looked so good. He is easy to work with. Power washed, stained railings, and applied deck helmet to our two-tiered deck. Replaced a few stairs that were rotted. Replaced top railings of deck with composite. Preserved tomato plants that were planted nearby. :-) Doru did a great job. As mentioned above, he painstakingly ensured that our nearby tomato plants did not get sprayed when he was powerwashing, staining, and coating. He was very professional and courteous. Our two neighbors on each side of our house are retired and were both home during the whole time Doru was working (we were not, and I still feel bad about not having water for him on some very hot days), and after observing his whole process, both decided to hire him as well. Hire this guy! Doru, the owner, is fantastic. I wish I could give him more than 5 stars. He was extremely reliable, on time, great with communication, knowledgable, honest and our deck and fence look amazing! He provided an estimate within a few days of contact. It was a very fair price considering the condition the deck was in. He messaged me each day at the start and end of the job. We had a problem with one of the boards after he was done (unrelated to the work he performed) and he came to fix it the next business day. Our deck and fence look brand new! After getting a number of quotes, Deck Buddy was the most reasonable. My deck was leaking sappy sticky yuck and he quickly diagnosed the problem (the past owners didn't seal the wood before painting). Instead of recommending an expensive idea like pulling out the boards and replacing, he sanded the spots (as well as spots that had knots and would likely be a problem in the future). He sealed those boards, perfectly matched the existing paint and my deck looks brand new. He came when he said he would, finished the job quickly and professionally. He mentioned that he did bathroom remodels in the winter and I am considering hiring him to remodel a basement laundry room. read more

Called them for installing a deck in front of my house. Scheduled them a time, they came and showed me some samples, all being so beautiful, I selected one design, and estimated me a reasonable price in advance, after that they started with the installation process, showing me all the materials they are using. Complete transparency in their work which I liked it very much. The final product when I saw, I got astonished. it looked wonderful! Doru did an excellent job repairing, cleaning, and staining our deck. He was very professional and detail oriented despite the fact that the wood rot and damage on our deck was more extensive than the initial inspection revealed and required strenuous work to replace support beams and many deck boards during a heat wave. Our deck was over 20 years old and was starting to show its age. Since the framing was in decent shape, we wanted to save money by just replacing the floor boards and railings with trex, updating framing for inspection, and painting. We got 4-5 quotes. Deck Buddy crew worked quickly but also paid attention to details.Our deck was 25 years old, but full replacement was not an option for us, since it would have cost a fortune. Deck Buddy came up with the idea of customizing and mixing a new coating technology with replacing the floor with the new TREX material. It came up amazingly.
