I give Deck Doctor my highest recommendation. Our deck was in drastic need of a powerwash and stain - as it had been several years since the last one. I called Jim at Deck Doctor, we discussed options and I sent him pictures. Given that the deck is 35 years old, I did not want the deluxe restoration treatment - I am just keeping it along until I replace it in a few years. Jim understood and came up with an effective but economical solution. A few days later, his employees Danny and Walter came out. They were knowledgeable, friendly and competent. Danny made a stain suggestion that improved the appearance of the deck enormously. The deck is now protected for another year or two and it looks great. The cost was more than fair. We just purchased a new home. The only thing wrong with the home was this deck. It was old and tattered, did not match the home. We received various quotes who all wanted to sell us on a complete tear down and rebuild. To us that seemed extensive and expensive.. Jim from deck doctor showed up (spent way more time on inspection than any of the previous contractors) He showed us how our sub structure was solid and would only require minor board replacement and powerwash/re sealing. Our back porch was weathered and potentially exposed to termites. Within days of calling they came out and refinished better than new. I like the look a lot better than the plastic look. My suggestion is to call them to receive a quote if you need the same work done. I only wish I had called them a year sooner when I first noticed there was no sealant and it was flaking off. I am so happy with our refinished deck!! Deck Doctor sent a well armed crew to come and tackle a deck that had been ignored for close to 4 years... it was rough and grey from years of sun and rain abuse.. All the wood furniture on the deck was in the same poor condition. The Doctor's crew worked on it, and their attention to detail is noticeable. I also had some newly built wood storage doors that were a different tone than the rest of the connected deck... well, it's all tied to together now with the same oil based stain... really brings out the beauty of the original, 26 year old deck and the newly built storage doors. If curb appeal means anything, my home just appreciated several times the cost of the project. And I agree with another poster here, you can try to do a job like this yourself, buying all the equipment and supplies, plus putting in all your labor, and, unless you're a pro, it will not look as great as how the Doctor will do ya. I must agree that 10 stars would be given to Jim! I called and left a msg to get my rain gutters cleaned since I had an issue with water overflown the rain spout. Jim emailed me right away with a quote and he was there right on time. I love how convenient he tries to make everything especially for working professionals by emailing you an invoice later so you technically don't need to be there. They even power washed additional areas on my patio, fixed a few broken pieces of wood decking, and removed old, outdated black stain that bordered my deck - all at no additional cost. I'm glad I chose these people to repair and resurface a small deck (100 sq ft). The deck extends over my garage and had been leaking down into it. A part of the underlying plywood was rotten and needed replacement before the deck could be resurfaced. I got an estimate from Jim Hamilton and hired Deck Doctor to repair the deck. The person Jim sent to do the plywood replacement was super-qualified. He (Ben Bush) is a roofer and was able to do a great repair and even some extra work on the underside, so to speak, inside the garage looking up. Also, Ben decided that the deck on the topside was not in good enough condition to repaint as it was, so he did not just patch the repaired part, he resurfaced the whole deck. After the sealing and painting I pretty much have a whole new deck, all for the original estimate. These people met and exceeded my expectations. read more
