Sides can make or break a meal and the side salad exceed expectations with fresh cheese,pickled onions and apple slices and more toppings. My friends enjoyed the take on the large tater tots as well as they loved the brussel sprouts as a side option. My meal was about $12 bucks which was a steal for the quality of food. There's a hand written menu outside of the little trailer, a couple of chairs, and an umbrella to keep you shaded while you order and eat. I decided on 3 tacos, al pastor, carne asada, and lengua (sup, I like tongue). At $2 a pop the price is right! They had a couple of other items as well, including a spiced pork in flour tortilla and something that sounded a lot like a mexican huarache, but was different and called a tlacoyo.... which I'm not even going to try to pronounce. My order was taken by what I assume was the mother of the family that operates this lovely little spot. My tacos were up super quickly. I can't say for certain... but I think that the tortillas are hand made. Either there, or somewhere close by. They were ultra fresh, and had that slightly imperfect edge. The tacos were served with roasted onion, grilled napoles, and their red and green hot sauces, which both packed a spicy punch. The carne asada was pretty good. Not the explosion of awesome I was hoping for... I was anxious. I wanted this place to kick ass. Looking at my other two tacos I was hesitant to try them. What if they weren't as good as I was hoping for? I bit into the lengua taco and my fears subsided. This is fucking great I thought to myself. Thank goodness. I consumed it with voracious zeal. The Al Pastor was next and the best of the three. The PERFECT balance of spices, carmelization, and just a hint of pineapple. Wow. For 6 bucks this might be the best deal in town. You used to be able to buy these at Whole Foods, so I've had them before, but they've pulled out of the retail market choosing to instead focus on direct to consumer and franchising a food truck business. We also got to sample their fries, which tasted fresh. Service was fast, and I had a nice chat with the owners (everyone working there is a partner in the business!) who were very interested in feedback, which I loved to see. You know it means their vested in the business. I suggested adding a greens side or really any other veggie side to the menu, since the only side right now is fries. They've subdivided the gardens for seating, so Liberty still has their space, and ZenBurgers has their own space. But if you have a group visiting both businesses, it's easy enough to get to the other seating. This seating is some of the best outdoor space in all of Asheville in my opinion. Sometimes they even have music. I recommend checking them out if you can handle a non-meat meal!

I had the black tie burger which included their yummy vegan patty, vegan truffle mayonnaise, sautéed veggies, and I asked for extra greens. The food truck itself is adorable and sits in the veggie garden next to Liberty tea. I ordered a beverage from Liberty and used their seating for a peaceful lunch. Zen Burger is also open 6 days a week until 6pm, except for Tuesdays.
