After testing multiple bikes, I bought the most expensive one b cause it felt the best, but didn't feel like these guys were trying to upsell me at all. I bought a Trek bike there a few years ago and had a good experience. Lately, I went with a flat tire and they gave me a new inner tube, installed it and inflated it. I asked how much and the mechanic said to just tell my friends that I got good service there. I highly recommend these guy. They're friendly and very accommodating! read more

Went in last week and met with Kent. Very knowledgeable and personable service. Knew exactly what I wanted, for the type of biking I'd like to do. He gave me a few options, but settled on one dual sport TREK that would fit my interest. I later did my own research and went to other shops, including shops in Boston proper, and because of the attention and knowledge of Kent, I went back today and ordered said bike. Hope to forge a good relationship in the future with this shop. Also, I love supporting old brick-and-mortar, family owned shops that still have good personable relationships with the community. read more

I took a spill on my mountain bike last summer and bent my rear wheel. These guys had good reviews, so I figured they could help me out. I booked my appointment online and got a date for more than a month out! Wow, I figured this place must be epic! I drop off my bike and they say to give them 10 days. It's a simple 15 minute job, but I figure it just takes time to get the part and they are super busy - no problem. After a couple weeks, I haven't heard anything, so I give them a call and they say it's not ready yet. Eventually they call me to say the bike will be ready and I can pick it up the same day. I tell them I'll pick it up the next day. This is where it gets really messed up. I go in and the bike isn't ready. They say they'll just do it while I wait. 30 minutes later, they bring out the bike and the replacement wheel isn't even the same black color as the original wheel. It is some cheap, generic wheel. They said they didn't have a new wheel to put on there, so they took one off another bike. They give me a slight break on the price, but at this point, I'm a little annoyed and just take my bike with mismatched wheels and go home. I take the bike for a quick ride and notice it's not staying in gear properly. Not having time to deal with it, I put the bike away for the winter. Spring is here and I take the bike out for a closer look. I notice the rear gear set wobbles when the wheel turns. THESE GUYS PUT A USED WHEEL WITH A BENT HUB ON MY BIKE!!! I just ordered a new wheelset online and replaced both wheels myself. Much easier job than I anticipated, and the bike is riding flawlessly now. Dedham Bike will not be getting any of my business in the future, nor will I recommend to anyone. My experience with their business practices and quality of service is appalling. Save yourself the aggravation and take your bike to one of the more trustworthy and competent bike shops in the area. read more

I went to check this place out after a friend of mine in Dedham came here to get a cyclocomputer (they charged her $10 to install it, which I can't decide is a legitimate cost, or a cheapo nickel-and-diming move). DB has a great and informative website with a lot of great tips, and a "Come on in, we want to help you! We love bikes! We'll hook you up" feel. Plus, you really got the sense it was a little guy family company, and not one that catered to the hardcore couriers or Lance Armstrong wannabes. So I went to check it out. On one hand, it's a third-generation family-run bike shop in what looks like an old gas station that's cramped and quaint like someone's garage, not hi-tech glossy and slick. On the other hand, I didn't get that old-fashioned emporium-esque "come in and browse for hours" feeling when I stopped in for bike tubes. The guy behind the counter barely looked up from what he was doing to help me. He wasn't rude. He just wasn't as friendly and encouraging as the website made him out to be. My heart was a little broken, I gotta say. read more

Love these guys. They fixed my old clunker (c. 1960s Schwinn) without sticking their noses up at why I ride this antique jalopy, anyway. They charged a normal fee for a tuneup. And no attitude! The whole procedure allowed me to ride my bike well into late fall of last year. I literally said gratitude prayers as I pedaled, because shops like this make me happy...and need to be supported by our community to survive. There is easy parking out front. I will bring all my bikes here from now on. read more

What rude, disappointing treatment we received from Lenny, one of the service people, today. We've shopped here before with no problem, but he is awful. The last time we shopped there, we accidentally left an item behind, after which my husband returned and was told they likely put it back in inventory. Another service person that day volunteered to give us a new one at a discount since no one was exactly sure what happened to the item. This was fine with us. We returned today and explained the situation to Lenny who was odd from the start. After my husband's explanation he insisted that they never made that offer. But then he repeated the inventory issue. Inexplicably, he was surly and rude, insisting no one ever said that. He was plainly inferring that we were being dishonest about what happened before. It deteriorated from there. He was rolling his eyes, muttering under his breath at is and was incredibly rude. Eventually another representative intervened, but Lenny kept saying inappropriate things. We made it very clear that it is wrong to be so disrespectful and rude. We will take our business elsewhere. I suggest you do the same. Update: despite the manager's reply saying they will use this experience as a learning opportunity, Lenny, the same horribly discourteous employer, doubled down and sent me a very hostile email trying to justify his bad behavior. I instructed Lenny to never contact me again. Beware. read more

Dedham Bike has been great helping me get a bike for my daughter as well as myself. I like the fact that it is in my town so that if I need support, they are right there. Though some like the bigger, flashier stores, the customer service at a small, independently owned business is always superior as they build relationships with customers. I went in to find some screws to reattach a derailleur hanger on my mountain bike. The clerk literally said "I don't really have time to look for those". It's not like he was busy with other customers; he was just sitting at the register in an empty store! This is the epitome of lazy service. Good customer service is independent of price at checkout. Treating all customers as though they matter, leads to loyalty and more sales. So the next time I'm in the market for a new bike, Dedham Bike wil not even be a consideration. I ended up going over to EMS in Newton, and the bike tech spent 10 minutes going through parts catalogs and looking in her parts drawer. While she didn't have the parts, she made a great effort - something Dedham Bike could take a lesson from if they want more business. read more

I've always been impressed with the knowledge and responsiveness of Dedham Bike. Even though I had bought my bike elsewhere, they were more eager and available to service it. One example: I broke a rear spoke a few days before Christmas. I commute to Boston by bike, so I really needed it fixed. Called Norwood Bicycle Depot, where I had bought the bike, and they said "call us after Christmas, we're too busy." Called Dedham Bike, and they said "if you can get it here by noon we'll fix it today." And they did. That was huge. So the next time I needed a repair, I took it there instead. Another example: I had spoken with them about a bike I was thinking of purchasing. They said it was in stock, so I stopped by to see it that day. When I got there (just before closing time) the door was locked and I couldn't get in. So I sent an email explaining what happened, and the store owner got back to me in a flash and helped arrange a return visit. Classy. It's not a spacious store like International Bike in Newton, but I haven't found them wanting for selection. Plenty of bags, racks, gloves, etc. Also, if you just want to look around for awhile, they don't harangue you. Some people might interpret this as being indifferent but I prefer their approach. read more

My kids first BMX bikes are from here. The owner, instead of saying "Here, kid," and shoving a bike at my kid, spent time with each of them and found a bike that fit their size, properly. Also, he needed to make some minor adjustments, to custom fit each bike, so he kept the bikes overnight to dial them in. I like this place and will continue to get my kids' bikes serviced here. read more

We bought 3 bikes here over 5-6 years. We keep coming back because while it's a small place, we like the helpful service and the selection. We just got a 7 speed Raleigh comfort bike for our daughter that she adores. No bike snobbery, just a great place to find bikes appropriate for any level of enthusiast and price range. read more

I was so shocked by the above reviews that it literally prompted me to get a Yelp account and tell of my experience with them this year because it seriously differed from the other reviews. I'm 40 and hadn't had a road bike since I was a teenager. Felt completely idiotic when I walked in there because I wanted to try a triathlon this year but didn't know what to look for in a bike. I seriously can't tell you how friendly they were and the guy who helped me (Matt I think was his name?) spent a good amount of time with me giving several options. Plus it was pretty cool that he was so knowledgeable and was able to answer every possible question I threw at him. I also just want to add that another guy who's name I don't remember helped me load the bike into my vehicle and was EXTREMELY patient. I was so happy with my experience @ Dedham Bike and will most definitely be going there when I upgrade. read more
