The gentleman I spoke to on the phone stated he was open.I went directly there and was treated with respect by Josè .I showed him my old bearings he told me all they needed was to be greased. Busted Knuckle Bicycle Shop is located on the intersection of Belgrade Ave and Walworth St. I happen to be visiting in town and needing a quick bike fix. Called around 6:30pm to see if I can pop over there to check air and possibly put air in my bike tires. The gentleman at the store Clint was able to assist me at the shop even though he was already busy working on other bike. I'm happy that I have a bike to ride now especially now that weather's getting warmer. I hope that more people buy used bikes and repair and use them, I have my vintage 70s Schwinn Cruiser that I had it for years! Of course you have to put maintenance on it but when you take care of it, it will take care of you. And also, when you take it to the bike shop in your neighborhood, you are supporting a small business. read more

I deliberately avoided this place since moving to Roslindale three years ago. The name was a turn-off to me because it read as "we hate women." It seems odd that bike shops would be shitty to female customers, but many are, and I can see by the reviews that I was correct about this one (note how many of the negative remarks come from women). I finally gave it a try last week out of desperation. As I feared, the person there (Owner or employee? Not sure? Who cares?) was rude and dismissive. He also did something I really detest, which was that he droned on at length about why he could NOT work on my eBike. A simple "No" would have sufficed, but then he just made me stand there and listen to him whine about how it wasn't worth the money. I bought a lock there, which I kind of now regret. After that, I tried Adi's Bike World in West Roxbury, which was wonderful. The owner opened up the store on Labor Day because so many people called (of which I was one), and was super nice to me, so I bought my inner tubes and brought the bike back for service two days later. I moved to Boston last year and finally brought my bike in for a much needed tune up. I've always gone to neighborhood type bike shops so I was happy to find this gem. The service was great, affordable and fast given the circumstances. Even during Covid they were able to flip my bike in less than 2 weeks (some of the delay was them waiting on a wheel key from me). I got a tune up, fixed my front breaks, fixed my basket bc a part broke off and I think I got a new chain, all for $120! I'll be back! read more

This is THE place to go. I needed to adjust my derailleur and handle grips but couldn't find my tools. I called the shop to buy a tool. The gentleman working the floor said he wasn't sure they had the right tool but he'd be happy to make the adjustments for me. I rode to the shop, he stopped was he was doing to put my bike on the rack, made the adjustments perfectly, and set me on my way. When I asked how much it cost, he shook me off and said he was just happy to be helpful. The kindest guy you could imagine. I walked into the shop with my teen in the hopes of purchasing a bike. I know inventory is very low but the owner treated us very rudely. My daughter was actually shocked and so was I. I am not sure why a store owner would treat customers as if they were bothering him. Shouldn't any business owner be happy that someone is walking into their store especially during these times?! I recently brought in a bike I'd purchased used off Craigslist, which needed quite a bit of work to bring it up to speed. Jay was really helpful in explaining what was wrong with the bike, and even though I needed quite a few components replaced, he helped me prioritize what to start with and didn't push me to spend more than I was comfortable with. They completed the work quickly, and my bike is in great shape now! I will definitely go back to have some future work done on it. read more

Took my bike into this shop for a complete overhaul. Less than a week later my pedal unexpectedly fell off while biking down Mass Ave in rush hour. I took the bike back in and showed Jay, the owner, how the crank threads had been stripped when the pedal fell off. This happens when the pedal is installed incorrectly (Google it). Jay looked me in the eye and said there was no way that he could have installed the pedal incorrectly and quoted me $100 to replace the crank. Totally unethical. Beware! read more

I've never written a Yelp review but was compelled to write one after the horrible experience I had at Busted Knuckle. Brought a new bike in that we assembled at home to ask a question about the breaks. I was told that it would be 90 dollars to do a re-assembly and that it couldn't be guaranteed because my bike was so low quality and that it wouldn't last past three rainstorms. Even if that was true (and based on thousands of reviews I've read, it's by no means a perfect bike but it's also not worthless), this definitely could've been communicated in a way that didn't feel completely dismissive and condescending. Sorry, not all of us are riding super fancy bikes and some of us just want a normal, reasonably priced bike to ride around for fun. I guess my bike's not deserving to be looked at because it sucks. The one star is for the lack of customer service. Based on other reviews, it seems like you're best served if you know more about bikes and have a nice one to bring in. read more

I was hoping for better reading all the great reviews on here, but I was not impressed. I had work to be done on two bikes 1) My regular commuting bike, which needed a tune-up, new cassette, derailleur and chain, and brakes. 2) an old bike that I wanted to fix up to gift to a family member Bike #2 came back fine, but bike #1 had both sets of brake pads rubbing significantly on the tires as well as the chain rubbing on the derailleur in common shifting positions. When I brought it back in, they worked on it a bit more... I rode off again, then noticed brakes still rubbing on the rear and now front was not rubbing, but brake handle was extremely loose (quick fix to keep it from rubbing?). Brought it back in again. The person who helped me asked "Did you take the front wheel off? It's on kind of funny." (I had not). This person fixed the loose action on the front brake, and I thought it was all better. However, on my first real ride to commute, I now noticed that the front brake was pulsing. Tired of my repeat visits, I looked it over myself at home and one of the front pads was about a quarter inch higher than the other, which I'm guessing was the root of the problem. I fixed it myself in about five minutes. If I'm paying $200 for a tune-up and overhaul, I'd like to walk out with a finely humming machine. The number of basic things wrong after multiple visits was pretty inexcusable. They also rang me up on bike #2 with someone else's more expensive receipt, and it took awhile to get it corrected. Two stars instead of one because the shop staff were generally nice, but I will not be coming back. read more

I am no bike expert and have found these guys to be nothing other than professional, courteous, knowledgeable, and reasonably priced - even when just asking questions/advice and not buying anything. Really disappointing experience at Busted Knuckle. I purposefully went there for a tune-up to support my local bike shop. They had the bike for two weeks returned it in worse condition - it would not stay in gear. The owner first told me I didn't know what I was talking about or how to switch gears, then tried to tell me all bikes slip out of gear and that mine always had this problem. When I explained actually it never had this problem before, he became quite upset and agitated, offered a fix involving a new part, and when I asked the price of the new part started storming around the shop. I picked up the bike a few days later and it still wasn't working right. Again I was told it was me, and that in fact there are only 17 gears on my 21 gear bike (this would have been funny if it weren't so infuriating). Their total gaslighting of my experience and knowledge of my own bike plus the owner's pretty much out of control rage were bizarre. Not sure how they stay in business. I'd recommend going anywhere else. read more

I brought my bike in for a tune up--spent $90 and, as far as I can figure, all they did was replace brake cables and put air in the tires. The chain was bone dry and I could barely shift gears. When I picked up the bike, they seemed confused and rushed and only had time to take my money. Maybe they fucked me because I'm a novice and it was a cheap bike? Fast forward 3 months, I bought a good bike, am riding every day, and will not be recommending or dropping any money at this place. They suck. read more

Bought my son's first bike from Busted Knuckle at their old location in JP. They were awesome about letting him ride around and try things out. We had a pretty tight budget and they showed us some new and used bikes we could afford without trying to up-sell us, unlike another shop I had checked out before them. We got a great bike that has grown well with him and, IMO, my son's bike is the coolest looking one on our street. :) read more

I've taken three bikes to Busted Knuckle and have found everyone on staff friendly, helpful and willing to work with me. I'm a novice bike rider, who is content to patch up my old bike and go for a ride now and then. These guys were approachable and awesome. Their prices are fair, the turnaround is quick, and each bike has been in great condition when I've picked it up. I'll continue to use this shop for all my repair needs and next time I'm in the market for a new bike - I'll start shopping there. read more

I am very new to biking and bought a cheap bike just to get started. I took my bike into this shop and asked them to check it out and see if it was safe to ride, at which point he condescendingly told me department store bikes aren't safe, then gave me incorrect legal advice. They didn't look at my bike or check it like I asked. Definitely never returning to this place, if they want to encourage biking they should be helpful no matter what level someone is at. read more
