I brought my bike into Landry's yesterday, and Andres went above and beyond. He spent about 15 minutes diagnosing and fixing the issue on the spot--and only charged me $15. He not only explained what the problem was, but also showed me how to prevent it from happening again. At most bike shops, I probably would've been told to leave the bike for a few days, but Landry's clearly prioritizes its customers. Having someone like Andres available to help walk-in customers speaks volumes about their commitment to service. While I waited, I watched Andres assist others, and I was just as impressed. He's calm, knowledgeable, and genuinely listens. His natural ease with customers and ability to fix a wide range of problems makes him a real asset to the shop. I went to Landry's Bicycle to fix a stripped screw that adjusts the seat height of my bike. I have a trail bike that I bought from a different Landry's two years ago. And the staff were very helpful and fixed it on the spot and helped replace my old handlebars for a new pair and did not charge me for the screw or installing the handlebars. Definitely recommend, the staff are very helpful and nice. Definitely will come back. The service was impeccable. read more

I've had great experiences at Landry's in Newton. I came in because the seat was hurting my crotch, and of their people adjusted my bike seat so it didn't dip up so much, which made a huge difference. Another time an employee figured out how the attachment to the pump had gotten screwed up. No charge either time. read more

Not sure where all the positive reviews are from but my first, and likely last experience at Landry's was today. I went into the store looking for some brake cleaners for my disc brakes. The one star is for the nice looking interior. Everything else was very lackluster, worst of all, customer service! Or better yet, lack there of! No one batted an eye, said "hello", as I made several rounds around the store and coming up to the counters. I know I'm height-challenged (5'7") but didn't realized I was that short not to even be noticed with 3 other customers in the store ! I couldn't find what I needed and left. I doubt any knew I was even a potential customer. I went to a different Landry's location, and similar. Someone did talk to me but very dismissive...saying he is busy helping someone else and go to the counter and find someone else to help. I graciously left and that'll be my last time. Insanely expensive. I went in to replace my bike's chain. The staff kindly suggested I also replace the brake pads. "Sure, thanks for noticing that." On top of the new chain, the service on the chain and the new pads, I was charged $27.50 for a few additional minutes of work (the bike was already being serviced) - to install just one set of brake pads (not both wheels). I love supporting local businesses, but in my opinion this is untenable. read more

Overall a great selection of bikes and convenient location. I went in for a bike for my 9 year old that I had seen in stock online in a particular color. I was able to get that bike for the price listed online and have it quickly assessed by their mechanic. I am taking off 1 star because I was at first helped by a child who looked no older than 12 but apparently is an employee?? He was very unhelpful (again, he looked about the same age as my own child) and none of the 4 adult employees stepped in to help with his price and bike confusion. However, I was able to get things figured out once I requested an adult manager, who was sitting nearby and helped me. I am still very confused as to why they had a child working there. read more

This isn't about their bikes, but about their great service. My husband had ankle surgery and is non weight bearing for five weeks. We had bought a knee scooter online and we could not get the brake to work - this was challenging as it was the only way my husband could get around as he had a very hard time with crutches. I brought the scooter to Landry's and explained our difficult situation. They fixed it in about an hour for an extremely reasonable price which was greatly appreciated. Every employee I spoke to was kind and understanding and will not be forgotten - the next time we need a bike I will return to Landry's! read more

I'm a longtime Landry's customer. Most of my experience is with the Boston location (which is awesome BTW). This was the first time I'd been to Newton store. It's terrific. The staff is amazing: very attentive, and genuinely helpful, and not pushy. Thea and Kevin are doing SUCH a great job there. I went to the Newton store with my 7 yo daughter, on a busy Saturday, for her new bike. The Newton store has a lot of kids bikes (don't let that COVID news fool you: they have a lot of awesome bikes). We got a sweet new bike for my daughter, and a helmet, both perfectly fit for her, and some cool stickers too. All in all it was a great experience. Expensive, and did not do a good job. Called in advance to speak with maintenance person, and instead was forced to speak with incompetent front person. Bike was dirty, looked barely oiled, tires were deflated, and I had issues afterwards with derailleur. They call that a tune up! On par with other locations, this location is on Highland avenue in Newton. It is one of the smaller locations although has a larger back showroom, however this is much smaller than Norwood location. I only went here to pickup a bike Norwood did not have. Same friendly service and decent prices and great inventory. Not sure why the reviews complaining about price, these prices are moderate, in fact lower than most of the smaller bike shops in the area and as always you get what you pay for. I rarely write reviews. I was so frustrated and disappointed with Landry's. After months of trying to contact them via the telephone and their online chat option I gave up. I understand that we are in a pandemic, and there is a bike shortage. However, other bike shops that I contacted were far more responsive, helpful and better equipped to handle/deal with the pandemic and the volume of business. I eventually bought my road bike elsewhere where the customer service exceeded all expectation. I should have known that there may be further issues with them, when I dropped off a hybrid for service at Landry's in Newton last week. I decided to give them another try only because of parking and convenience to my home. I was stunned when I received a bill for $207 on extra work that was not communicated to me via a call or text. I gave them the OK initially for a maximum charge/work of $130 to be done via a link that was posted outside near the service drop off, since there was no service person to speak with in person. You just put a tag on your bike, and leave it there, and then submit an online form. Pretty unsettling - I saw some high end road bikes on the rack waiting for service. Someone could grab the bike and go. When I heard nothing about the work for over a week I called yesterday to inquire. I spoke to an employee who said, "we can take $25 off the bill." When I picked it up, I conveyed my frustration, and they did discount the work. Unfortunately, I will never use them or recommend them to anyone. read more

Although I confess to being an Apex Velo fan (where they know me by name), I do go to Landry's for some stuff, and I am always pleased with their selection and prices. Last October, I bought a new wheel for my road bike at Landry's. Since then, I've been getting a lot of flat tires. With three of the flats, I brought the bike back to Landry's in Newton to ask if they could diagnose the problem. Every time, I was told that the were probably pinch flats because the tire wasn't sufficiently inflated. That was inconsistent with my experience because sometimes the flats came shortly after I pumped up the tires. Also, the location of the flats on the inside of the tube made me question this diagnosis. In any case, the first time, they couldn't find a problem. The second time, they replaced the tire, saying they had found a small hole on the side -- possible, but I had bought a top-of-the-line tire the prior summer. The third time, the flat came after 30 minutes of riding on the new tire. This time I was able to rebut the pinch-flat thesis by pointing out that they had pumped up the tire themselves. The third visit, I think they found the true problem and retaped the inside of the wheel to prevent the spokes from causing flats. (So far, so good, though it's only been a couple of weeks.) When I picked up the bike I expressed my dismay that they were charging me for the repair given that I had just paid for the new tire which apparently was unnecessary. They did take off part of the charge, but I was more struck by the lack of sympathy of the front-desk staff for my series of ruined rides. Their response is bike tires get flats and they were addressing the problem by process of elimination -- maybe the latest repair won't work either. If that's the case, I'm not sure what they'll try next, not that I'll be returning if there's a next time. read more

Wanted to share a bad experience with Landry's Bicycles Newton today. Ordered a bike on sale online this morning...only to get a couple of hours later that they're actually not selling that bike at that price anymore. The email also says, "(please) feel free to contact a member of Landry's Bicycles Newton store sales staff to discuss potential substitute options", so i did just that. Waited 15 mins to be helped (only 2 sales people, and 2 techs). One of the sales guys came by and said, "will be right with you, after I finish with this one customer (at shoes)," only to have another lady walk into the store with her kid, and he ended up helping her instead. After waiting another 10 mins, we left. What a dissapointing and unfortunate experience with a local small business. read more

Landry's is an employee owned business and their commitment to customer satisfaction, technical advice and service are at least a 10 out of 10. They also NEVER try to upsell you - something I would be highly susceptible to. And whether you are buying a high end bike or spending a few hundred for an entry level one, the they treat you exactly the same and make you feel like one of their best customers. Kevin's technical skills and advice are world class - he has helped me fine tune my gears, cured the dreaded "hot foot," recommended the perfect bikes for me and made a ton of special orders to perfect my rides. read more

This 1-star review is for the quality of a tune-up and also how I was treated by Jamie, one of the front desk staff members who was incredibly rude and dismissive when I came to pick up my bike after having some service done. At one point he said, "I'm done talking to you," and started ignoring me mid sentence. For the back story, I had to bring my bike back due to problems after a tune up* and the mechanics had been trying to get it back to me with a quick turnaround due to earlier issues. I had called a couple of times to inquire about the progress and see when I could pick it up since I needed it to commute for work that night (I work overnights). When Jamie saw that I had called several times and had had issues with the tune up, his demeanor and interactions with me completely changed. He became short with me and stopped answering my questions, such as if I could get some of my replaced parts back or what what was included in the different levels of tune-ups (I was planning on bringing another bike in for service that needed more help than the basic tune-up included). He then stopped interacting with me completely, started actively ignoring me, and helping the customers behind me instead as if I wasn't even there. Sadly, this is not my first bad interaction at Landry's but this was certainly the worst. I've been bringing my bikes here ever since I moved to Boston but will have to find another shop from now on and will steer others away from them. I understand they're busy but that's no way to treat anybody. *In addition to this terrible interaction, they also made the brakes worse after the tune-up. I came within 2 inches of getting hit by a car after picking up my bike because I wasn't able to brake in time due to the brakes barely working. You'd think they'd check the bike before handing it back to the customer, but somehow this was missed. Scary stuff. read more

Year after year, Landry's does a great job for our entire family.... now in their new, expanded store! Of particular note are the adaptations they make (at our request and also their own ideas from observations) for our now 8y with Cerebral Palsy in the form of right side weakness) from a stroke. We asked them to switch the hand brake sides. The head of service Oak has helped us evaluate many different gear switching mechanisms and which ones might be easier to switch to his dominant side. Oak moved up the right break a little closer to make it easier. We've been coming here for years and biking is a huge point of pride and joy for my son who was interested and able to learn young in no small part to the right gear and adaptations. Biking also doubles as Physical Therapy for him :) The whole team is so friendly and helpful (Eric, Jamie, Josiah, etc.). We are really lucky to have Landry's as our neighborhood bike shop. read more

Wonderful experience recently on a repair, crew is attentive and seemingly cares about each customer. Hadn't needed to show at store for some time, still was treated like a VIP. Newton demands top service and Landry's delivered. Would never think to leave a review for a non restaurant, and I was very impressed the other day. Fair prices too on repairs, didn't screw customer like so many taking advantage of rampant inflation. This will go a long way once things eventually reset and the consumer in charge. Recently bought and adult bike here during tax-free weekend and had a great experience. The store manager took care of us and never made us feel pressured to walk out with a bike, providing detail about the different models available depending on my biking level. I went back the next day to purchase a bike, had to order from the warehouse but the bike arrived at the shop, had safety check and was ready for pickup within two days of ordering. Went in this morning with my daughter with the goal of buying a bike in short order and riding it the same day. Tim was a great help and gave us a couple of bikes in our price range to try out. He didn't push us to a more expensive bike when my daughter chose the (much) cheaper one. Put a bell and kickstand on it, helped us load up the car and we were out the door in about 30 minutes. I brought my bike in after having an accident and I was impressed at the service I received. First, I was asked if I was OK, which I thought was very nice of them to be concerned. Then, what I feared would be a costly repair turned out to be a simple fix of popping the shifter back into place, which was done at no charge. The tech then did some simple tests and had some recommendations about service that could help my bike's performance, but in no way pressured me to have it done. I took my bike in to Landry's this evening because the flange holding the rear sprocket set together came loose and the cassette came apart. My husband, who is generally good at troubleshooting, was stumped, thus Landry's. While we waited, Jeff reassembled the sprocket set on its hub. What I thought was going to be a huge deal took him no more than 10 minutes, and to my great surprise, he said "no charge"! Quality control is still a bit loose (e.g., kickstand/kid seat poorly installed), but the staff are more than happy to fix issues that are brought to their attention. Staffs do a good job making proper explanation and recommendation for new bikes. They seem friendly and knowledgeable. However, their service has become inferior (compared to previous owner International Bicycle). Just recently, I took two bikes for tune-up. After a few days, I was notified that they were ready. When I came back to pick them up, I found that one of the bike's rear brake was still loose (i.e. tire rolls despite braking) and the other bike's front tire still needed more air. Clearly, tune-up has not been performed properly. I have been coming here for several years. I clearly feel that I have had better overall service and price in the past when it was still International Bicycle. read more

In the last couple of weeks, I have tapped into Landry's bicycle services in several ways. Having done some research online on reviews and buying guides, my wife and I popped into Landry's on a Saturday exploring what was available for adult bikes. Staff was very friendly and not overly aggressive. We spent about 20 minutes with Gregg learning about potential options. Gregg offered several suggestions and answered our questions about expected bike maintenance. We both took test drives on a couple of bikes and found the type of bikes that worked best for each of us. Even though we did not make an immediate purchase at the store, I went back online and found the best value deals on Landry's site. Bikes were available for pickup at the store the same week. Staff was very helpful in loading one of the bikes into my compact sedan. I enjoyed riding the other bike home and was content with my purchases. A few weeks later, I brought a kid's bike in for wheels that were almost completely deflated. Landry's inflated it at no extra cost. read more
