My cabin was barely adequate. Everything in it was very old and poorly maintained. The AC was unbearably noisy. There were a number of small holes in the walls where art or shelves once upon a time. It wasn't spotlessly clean either; dust and some sort of gritty film covered the bathtub surround. It was advertised as a non-smoking room, but the smell of stale tobacco permeated the walls. The bed was okay...the sheets were clean, but the mattress was a bit spongy for my taste. There is a two-story much more modern motel building on the property, and it might be better; but I'll never know. I won't chance it again. read more

I was given the Shy Bunny cabin as an upgrade to what I had booked and it reeked of pinesol. I couldn't open the windows to let fresh air in and neither could the manager. There was dog food on the floor and in the kitchen sink and jam on the fridge door, greasy stove... Just bad. The manager could see this and then moved me to Room 8 and it looked more modern and cleaner at a glance. Well, when I wiped the remote control, light switch plates, counters, it was disgusting. The floor too. I went back down to the office and showed the wipes to the manager and he said he'd have it cleaned again. The cleaning lady had an attitude with me, so who knows if she cleaned the floors again or not. I don't have anywhere else to stay, so will be stuck here yet shortening my trip by a day. One good thing is that I'm walking distance to restaurants and the lake for hiking. I won't be back. read more

Hell to the nono man DO NOT STAY HERE - Sleepy Hollow Cabins & Hotel I TRIED to stay here in early June and I still can't let it go of how awful this place is. If you care about basic cleanliness, professionalism, and safety, this place is a nightmare. Wrong Room Key They gave me the wrong room key, and I walked into a room already occupied by another family. Imagine the risk--someone could've easily stolen something. Thankfully, I'm honest, but this is a serious breach of privacy and security. Dirty Room & False Claims After switching rooms multiple times, I finally got to one where I found someone else's hair and eyelashes in the pillows. They insisted the sheets were brand new. Clearly, they weren't. It was disgusting and unacceptable. Insensitive & Unethical Behavior When I raised concerns, they called me "sensitive" and canceled my reservation--while I was traveling with a toddler. That's not just unprofessional, it's heartless. Smelly Office & Rude Staff The office smelled awful, and the staff--including the manager--were unethical, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. Public Warning If you think someone else's hair in your pillow or a dirty room is not okay, DO NOT BOOK HERE. This place is a health hazard, and the staff clearly don't care. read more

The only thing good about it an attempted service to help. It was otherwise the worst surprise stay. - decomposing food in a refrigirator build about 30 years ago. - clearly bedding wasn't changed. we had hair and other things, even fresh makeup on pillows - heater and heating control wasn't working. temporarily started then died-middle of the night and we were freezing. thankfully a nice service guy brought a floor manual heater - spiders and roaches, live and dead, especially in the bathroom - ceiling fan was broken - if you turn lights on also fan turns on- in the winter without heating. they couldn't fix. all we watned was light. we were so cold and scared of clearly previously used bedding, spiders and roaches, we slept with all our clothes on as we arrived late and had no other place to go. read more

It's, bad. Unfortunately Managers are nice, but people "working" there are addicts. Maintenance man who was called to room to fix stoves pilots was so drunk he couldn't. We had to sleep with all the windows open cause it smelled so bad of natural gas. Mold, holes in walls, filthy stove, broken door handles, broken shower handle. Non working microwave, dirty everything. Used large band-aid at the pool as well as construction trash. Sad cause this is such a beautiful spot. read more

My wife and I decided to stay here due to the location of the San Moritz Lodge where we had family getting married. The parking was extremely limited, we actually had to park down the street the first night and had to wait to find parking the next day. We stayed in the chestnut room. The room smelled weird, the air was stale and the door doesnt fit in the frame to the point we had to actually force it open and slam it closed, it also had a small gap on the bottom that can let bugs /creepy crawlies in. The bathroom door handle was broken, the heating was broken as well When we addressed it, the new owners brought a stained portable metal heater in that smelled like tar (previously in a room that was smoked in is my assumption). We couldn't use the shower because there were ants in and around the tub itself so we opted to wait until we left. The wallpaper in the bathroom was also dilapidated/peeling. In the sink, the previous person's had left the toothpaste cap in the drain. We made every excuse to be out of the room as possible, just not a great experience. The extra blanket had cigarette burn holes in it so we threw it on top of everything. The other rooms might have been nicer but I doubt we'll be staying there again. If you book a room, stay in the actual cabins and avoid the chestnut room until they get everything fixed, which might take a while. read more

Going to be blunt about each feature of this place: Service: Front desk clerk was not friendly. He asked me how many people were staying in my room (even though I had booked through Hotels.com stating 2 adults) and said it was because I had requested a king bed. (Awkward comment to make to an adult woman). Then when I asked for a 2nd room key for my hubby he sighed like I was asking a ridiculous favor of him. NOT pet-friendly/"pets stay free" as advertised: Upon arriving at the room, all doors we saw stated "no pets". When I approached the clerk that maybe we needed to be in a different part of the property, we ended up in a circular conversation for about 5 min where he told me they DO allow dogs but for $20/night extra and I told him that's not what they said and he said there's no charge for service animals and I said "service animals are NOT considered pets per the ADA" and round and round we went. I eventually said I'm not paying extra as a major reason I chose this place was their pets stay free policy and that we could call Hotels.com to hash it out right then and he finally gave up and allowed us to stay at no additional charge. Room Condition: So the room was probably recently redone with a very cute rustic theme and fairly spacious. However, upon closer inspection, you could see many dings etc in the walls that the owners didn't' bother to clean up. That part alone was totally acceptable for us, for the price we paid and the proximity to the main tourist strip area. The part that became unbearable was the smell. Upon first entry, we were bombarded with the stench of strong lemon disinfectant mixed with urine. After a few hours, the disinfectant smell dissipated, but the urine didn't which affected our ability to sleep. Around 3 am, after having run the AC for hours and also opening the bathroom window, the pee smell cleared up enough for us to get a little sleep. Location: very centrally located to the main little town with lots of quaint (mostly antique) shops, restaurants and Lake Gregory. From the hotel you can easily walk from one end of the main drag to the other. read more

$200+ is so overpriced. For $200+, one would think you'd get something clean, at the very least. Dirty bedding, like dust/dirt in the bedding. Dirty floors. The bathroom sink didn't have an aerator so the water flow was sloppy. Dirty shower. Hard, scratchy towels. Towel ring is barely hanging on and there was one towel ring that was just thrown on a shelf somewhere. Oh also the furniture and couch was pretty gross. Poor and sloppy construction, the floors didn't seem finished, trimming missing, paint was in places it shouldn't have been. A friend also had a cabin and there was grimey greasy pan in the oven when they went to use the oven to make dinner. They decided to leave and not stay the night after all. $200+ down the drain. Another friend said they chose not to shower because of the all of the hair in the tub. Everything needs to be redone here. And at the very least, cleaned well. The new management seems nice but nothing, as far as the amenities go, has improved. read more

I have traveled a lot and this is probably the worst hotel I have EVER stayed at. If I could give this place no stars, I would. The only good thing about this place is probably the convenience to town it is and it's dog friendly. You read reviews on Yelp, and think "oh maybe people are exaggerating", they are definitely NOT. We stayed in Shy Bunny cabin and the first thing I do when I get to any hotel is check the sheets, the sheets were covered in stains, with god knows what. There was trash under the bed, the floors themselves were grimey, and I found a giant hair ball. The freezer totally smelled. We opened the closet and it looked like the wood was rotting in the corner. The last straw was there was no hot water on a day where it was raining and the temperature 36 degrees. We complained to front desk, and he said we could move rooms, it was already 9pm and we asked if we could do it first thing in the morning, he said that was fine. He did change the sheets because there was no way in the hell that was not getting done. In the morning I was ready to change rooms, and it was not ready, we had to wait two hours. When the front desk said it would be ready. Finally got to the new room and again trash under the bed! I came to realize the staff of this place just don't care and apparently either do the owners. We had one more night here so we just decided to let it be and get out first thing in the morning. Some other things that should be mentioned, though it is mentioned on the website, there is only one tv in the whole cabin. The cabins are not consistent, meaning they don't have the same utensils and cook wear. After this horrible experience I asked for a refund on the dog fee and they did refund 40 of the 80, but I still think they could have done more for this horrible filthy experience and after we spent $700! I'm seriously considering reporting this place to the BBB or the local Health Department. read more

I called to hold a room for my mom, who's managing a large homecoming there (the only reason they have business tonight). When I called back to confirm a few minutes later, the phone was answered chaotically (by a young screaming girl with others alike), and the same man I spoke to earlier -- claiming to be the manager -- said the room had just been booked by "someone" else. What disappointed me most wasn't the sold-out status, but the lack of basic human understanding. He, as a human, just told me, as a human, that we could allocate this room to my mom (who I didn't want driving 60 miles after managing a big event). Hospitality is about empathy and helping guests, and this experience felt like neither. Even an online system could've handled this better. This place was awful. Stayed in the Blue Bird cabin. When we first opened the door there was an extremely strong chemical cleaner smell. Had to open all of the windows and it never fully went away. The cabin sleeps 4 and there was only two towels. Soap container in the bathroom was empty. No napkins or paper towels and the floor was filthy. So gross!! read more

The cabin I stayed in was in a horribly unsanitary and unmaintained condition with a dirty floor, shower and tables and cobwebs on the ceiling. The only smoke alarm in the cabin was visibly broken. There were no curtains in my bedroom, giving me no privacy and making it hard for me to sleep. I was not given the room that I had specifically booked in the first place. Came up here in late December. We had a great time. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Walking distance to food and shops. Lots of antique stores. Dog friendly! Grabbed a burger from one of the nearby restaurants, took it back and enjoyed it on our balcony. Kitchen is fully equipped. We will be back for sure! read more

The positives with Sleepy Hollow: The customer service. I was confused about my booking through a third party site. My invoice said "charged" but apparently nothing was charged and I had to drum up $260 for one night in a one bedroom cabin. They were patient with me. They could see I was flustered with two small children. They let me in, cleaned up my Cheerios I spilled in the parking lot because I pulled the cereal bag out upside down. They also gave me a lighter for the fireplace and showed me how to use the remote. They were never snarky with me when others could have easily. They are very close to gas and food, and Santa's village. The bed was cozy and it was clean. Now, the negatives: I had just come from Hicksville where, for a little less, we enjoyed a wacky resort. Now I was paying a little more for a small cabin with views of concrete and a parking lot. I couldn't get the fireplace to work after two hours. We used up all our paper and even exhausted the lighter. The whole reason I got the cabin was for a fire. So we had a cold, dark night. (Guessing the wood was wet). The remote only worked from an arms length so anytime you want to change the channel, you have to stand about a foot from the TV. Also, it is standard cable so it was either SVU or Horrible Bosses playing on loop. I left feeling I had paid more than double for what I should have. This is par for the course in Big Bear/Rim of the World. I have never found a cabin I liked there. The search shall continue! P.S. The hotel itself will give you a better deal if you avoid third party booking sites like Booking.com/Priceline. read more

The floors are sticky. The bedroom carpets are sticky. The ceiling fans work, but they're missing lightbulbs. There's no overflow cover on the tub, just a gaping hole. The outdoor plumbing clean out has spilled on the artificial grass. It's not been cleaned up since that plumbing was fixed. There's a broken resin chair and a screen thrown out back. The value was meet with heart as well as the service when I needed quick accommodations in the snow. Rooms are spacious, beds are comfortable, cabins are fun and unique with different names and spacious 2 story family cabin to a large specious family cabin with a wrap around deck. The cozy corner is where I stayed and I loved the yard for my curly sue! The back lodge, chestnut upstairs a good amount of room on a memory foam queen bed. The rooms in the front lodge are comfortable. Heaters and fireplace works with gel cans. As fuel. I didn't see any at the local stores so you might want to bring your own. read more

This spot is charming and conveniently located, but I want to give a special shout-out to the incredibly kind and accommodating staff. Due to a major Expedia snafu, a bunch of people had bookings that the hotel had no record of (we think Expedia got hacked). The hotel was completely full, but they scrambled to fix up a suite above the lobby for us, which was in the middle of renovations and not ready for guests. By the time we saw it, it was clean and cozy. They were also as helpful as possible to the other would-be guests, even though they got nothing out of this logistical mess (a mess which was not their fault). That's true hospitality. read more

I landed in Crestline in the early A.M after a difficult and poorly planed road trip, I was fortunate enough to find this lovely location. I had attempted to contact many different locations and was denied but mostly found that because of the hour, it was difficult to get my calls answered. But it was Sleepy Hallow management that promptly answered the phone and was pleasant and very helpful by giving me directions and kindly waited for my arrival. Check in was a breeze and the grounds plus accommodations are beautiful, clean and well secured. I love this place. Bruce, Kassandra and the rest of the staff were flexible and accommodating. This is a nice little humble place to stay that fits almost anyone's budget. It really feels like a cabin complete with fireplace, and patio overlooking a creek for some of the rooms. Everything you need, including convenience stores, restaurants, gift shops, and grocery stores are within walking distance. Up the hill a few minutes you'll find Lake Gregory, which is small but scenic and great for relaxing. I would definitely stay here again. read more

It seemed as if the people running Sleepy Hallow are using drugs primarily meth. I saw a few visitors but it was the "maintenance man" and his friends staying there. They were in the pool and took over so that it's hard for visitors to feel comfortable using the pool/spa. They also woke us up every night since they were up all night. read more

Unfortunately we had to cancel due to family issues and they refused to refund me even though on my receipt it stated they would! The management was rude. My husband and I stayed here for a weekend getaway and it was a dream. I saw so many bad reviews and I was worried but the cabin was exactly what I expected. If you come here expecting a 5 star hotel you might be disappointed. The bathroom is retro but works fine, the decorations are basic but that's why you are surrounded by scenery, and the table and chairs seem worn out through the years they've been loved. Its charming. Again it's simple, bustling of old age, and comfy. The bed was very comfy, we didn't try out their blanket because we brought our own, we left the windows open throughout the night and didn't hear any obnoxious noises, and we enjoyed our stay. The customer service was great they even gave us a little map! It was close to everything such as the 711, McDonald's, and the market store. Very convenient, cute cabins and open fresh air what more can you ask for? read more

We loved our stay at sleepy hollow cabin we chose lazy owl cabin it was perfect for a family of 4. The walk is very close to the lake bring a wagon and skip the parking fee for the lake. Very close to everything walking distance. I gave it a 3 because of a few things the fire alarm in one room was off the wall needs better locks on every window the floors were swept but our feet were black in 2.5 seconds of walking needs to be mopped. The bedding did smell fresh and no sign of bugs so that was awesome. The kids loved the backyard area. The managers are all very nice and accommodating. We loved the pool & jacuzzi. read more

We recommended this place for our wedding guests. Several had many issues including a major leak in the room. The staff was never around or present to help or switch rooms. We also tried to call and email to get this sorted out- they never answer the phone and the email doesn't work. I wouldn't recommend. read more

Dusting the cobwebs off my Yelp account to leave this review... Pros: The location is fantastic and cannot be beat in Crestline. There's only one other hotel right off of Lake Drive. Pro-tip: stay there instead Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE. We arrive at 3pm to check-in, there's no one in office. We call the number on the front door, no one answers. We wait 10 minutes and call again, a woman answers and says she'll be right there. She finally comes by, gives us the wrong key. And we have to wait another 20 minutes while she searches the entirety of Narnia for it it as it's not in the office. Whatever, I'm patient. When we finally get the key, we go to the room (we stayed in the hotel portion and not the cabins). There was a few leaves and crumbled up bits of paper behind the door and in the corners of the room. Some toilet paper pushed into places it shouldn't have been. Not a huge dealbreaker, it's $120 bucks a night. It ain't the Ritz. The next day, the family above us starts stomping around and making noise at 7am. Every footstep is a mini jackhammer. Again, not a huge dealbreaker, it's an older hotel and I've got airpods with noise cancellation. I open the cabinet containing the microwave to reheat some leftover yums and see three ROACHES having a town hall meeting and they scurry off like I've interrupted their day! That was my final straw, my thirteenth reason why. After that I couldn't get comfortable in the hotel at all and could no longer ignore the vast amount of issues this place has. Dirt and grime everywhere, a shower curtain that hadn't been changed since Reagan was president, the glasses in the room had a long brown hair in it we discovered way too late, customer service that feels you're on hold indefinitely with a call center, and did I mention how loud the people upstairs were? Mini. Jack. Hammers. I told my partner lets just get through it, it's two nights. Don't leave your suitcase open, we don't want to take any visitors home with us. The next day we checkout and start heading home. We're in the car and I'm jamming out to Taylor Swift. I look down and a giant roach is on my shirt. I'm a 37 year old grown man and let me tell you the way I SCREAMED at the top of my lungs. My first reaction was wow, the windows didn't shatter. Just absolutely vile. I brush it off, the roach falls to the floor, and I reenact the entire one hour and 50 minutes of Footloose in about 30 seconds. Sorry Kevin Bacon, but my adaption was Academy award winning. Finally we get home and I get to enjoy the safety of our clean house and a bed that doesn't feel like a box of stones and razor blades. Monday comes, I'm sitting at my computer working from home. And at some point I look down to see my cat intensely staring underneath my feet. I peer under my desk and there's another cockroach! We don't and have never had cockroaches in our house, ever! EVEEEEEER! My worst nightmare of bringing bugs home from a hotel finally came true. TLDR version: If you're like me and The North Shore Inn was sold out for the dates you were planning to come, CHANGE YOUR DATES. Do not stay here, do not pass go, do everything possible to not stay in this giant bowl of feces hotel. It's one large dump. read more

To us was a non pet friendly room even though we paid for a pet room, and booked this in advance. Couch leg was broken, and staff as aware of it. We came and 4th of July and pool and jacuzzi were both closed. Tub was not clean, walls were very things, could hear everything. Front desk Carrie seemed overworked and stressed. I booked a three room "cabin" here last minute on Booking.com to take my GF and her kids skiing. The "Cabin" ended up actually being the second floor apartment above the Managers Office on which NONE of the 3 heaters worked in on a 27 degree night! After I called down to ask about the heaters, two men came up to the unit and could not get any of the three heaters to work, in which I was supplied with a plug in oil heater. Each time we plugged in the heater, power to the ENTIRE unit AND the managers unit below would be knocked out completely because BOTH units are on ONE electrical circuit! I piled all four of us into one bed and we slept less than 3 hours and just got up and left, Ruining our entire little family ski trip. After requesting that Booking.com make me whole for this, the management of Sleepy Hollow fraudulently told Booking.com that power was knocked out to ALL of their units due to a winter storm. Not only is Sleepy Hollow a complete dump, but their management cares nothing about their guests not having heat, and have so little morals as to fraudulently claim that "power was out to all units" (I've attached a screenshot of their email) to cover the fact that not one out of three heaters in this unit even work. Sleep in your car before you stay here. Seriously. read more

Had a great stay. Yes there were a few hiccups WiFi wasn't working. And the fire pit was not working well either. But the management was very accommodating. The rooms were very clean. I had service so no wifi didn't bother me. We still were able to make s'mores. The pool was nice. Hot tub had a weird smell but I'm picky. For the price location and the friendly staff I'll come back here. It's a short walk to the lake market bowling alley and food. read more

The carbon monoxide alarm had been removed and was in a drawer. A wall outlet didn't have cover over it. Definitely felt gross walking in this room. We stayed in room #7 for a total of $203. Loved the small city but would definitely find somewhere else to stay. read more

Found a meth pipe in our fireplace. This was after we asked for replacement fireplace cannisters which they said they would bring to our room. Then when they did, they asked for money. I was GTFO dude. This place is definitely run by tweaker trash. It sucks that so many beautiful woodland areas (Redding, Eureka, etc.) in CA are ruined by shit like this. The dinner we made came from the local grocery store #Goodwin. And made in our cabin by me. Very easy to work in inn keepers. Great people!! I would recommend this place to anyone the cabins are well priced and nice accommodations. Everyone is so inviting highly recommended. read more
