The Older man at the bar is obviously a drunk you can tell in his voice. When I was there dining he broke glass, drank multiple beers, was extremely inappropriate and when I called back to leave my info with an employee of theirs I met at my job about a professional recommendation he was slurring, didn't make sense, was very combative and soooo unprofessional and then proceeded to call my phone back after I hung up 6 times. He claims to be one of the owners which is not true. Stay FAR away from this place. read more

Around 12:45AM I brought some family members to Deep South Growlers to have a beer. After seeing that the sign said open, we walked in and we're immediately accosted by the female bartender, and told to leave. It was so out of ordinary for this place. I have been here several times with friends and have never had a problem. My wife, brother, and I just walked out after we were spoke to like that. After a few mins standing outside I decided to go back in and discuss with the gentleman behind the bar how we were treated. He seemed to be heavily intoxicated and asked "Awww did we hurt your feelings?" Then the female bartender started to mock me for helping the community last year in the snow storm. She said " Oh no, is Derek the 4x4 man mad?" She was seriously making fun of me for helping over 100 people get groceries. I was calm and just made it known that I wasn't sure why they were so angry. Belligerently, they told me to get the F out and never come back. I am sincerely disappointed in this place and the people that work at the bar. That is not how you treat people in the community. It is also very alarming to keep hearing about how intoxicated the bartenders get in other reviews, while serving patrons of the bar. read more

I had no idea this place was here. I'm a huge fan of Umami's around the corner from this place and it's where I often meet or take out of town friends for something different (Korean Fried Chicken). However, they were going to get in the area earlier than I could meet so they started at Deep South. I ended up getting free sooner than I had thought after that and so I met them here...and I'm glad I did! They have a huge selection of draft beers: ales, IPAs, stouts, lagers, etc. A variety of ones you've probably heard of but some you may not have. You can get flights of samplers or full pours. Service is friendly, prices are fair, and beers are delicious. Definitely a great find and a good place to happy hour before you eat at a good restaurant in the area. read more

My boyfriend and I had been recommended this place for a casual drinking spot. It's pretty close to where we live so we thought we would check it out. It's located in Lenox Village. Great quiet area with a variety of businesses to check out. I was obsessed with the decor as soon as we walked in. Beautiful colors and GOLD. I'm a sucker for gold. Very cute and comfortable. I will say the one downfall is that it's very bright. Maybe after a certain time they could tone down the lights a bit. But hey, I guess it keeps you awake! They have a great selection of beers for the going rate in Nashville. My IPA was $6. Service was friendly and fast. We found a cute little table and explored the selection of games they have. We didn't find much for two people, but they had a good selection. The table next to us had an intense game of Monopoly going. On the table we noticed some food menus. Since they don't serve food, they must allow you to order some from the surrounding restaurants. They had Chinese food and one other menu I can't remember. Maybe Burger Republic? There are plenty of food options in the little neighborhood. It's a great little place to grab a craft beer and play some games. They have a patio so in the summer this place will be hoppin'. I made this place a Yelp page because HOLLA, y'all gotta know about it!! For the locals to the area, Deep South Growlers took the open place in Lenox Village where Menchie's used to reside - right on the corner of Lenox Village Drive. I work a few doors down and had been passing by this place every day, telling my husband, "I heard it's a new beer place! They have growlers! Let's go!!!" So, go we did, a few nights ago. And they have totally transformed this place. I never liked frozen yogurt anyway, and when you replace it with beer? Yes please! The interior is comfy and stylish, with modern chairs, tables, and couches, and a gorgeous huge bar smack dab in the middle of the room. They have rotating beers on tap - TONS of them - as well as some epic ciders and amazing non-alcoholic choices. Great selection, and they update their Facebook almost nightly, letting you know about specials and sharing a photo of the current "menu" - a huge chalkboard display behind the bar, where they write in current beers and ciders on tap. They have growlers to take home, and samplers (4 beers to a sampler) if you just want to try some different stuff. We didn't ask about food, so not sure if they have any - we'll definitely find out next visit! Lovely bartender was friendly as can be and answered any and all questions we had. First, this place may have changed so take what I say with that in mind. So the staff etc. could have been changed since I was there last. A conversation about business at the Marriott lead to this review a full year later. Many things change in a year. Apparently, there is trivia night. Not making fun of trivia night, just noting just how out of place any idea of fun would have been a year ago. So take this with a grain of salt. ----- So with that in mind... Clinical atmosphere, great beer. Music sub-par. Seating poor, but as I edit I see some new seating. Art and class lacking, but again that may have changed. However, the real problem from day one was the the lack of opportunity this place could have had if it wasn't the seemingly, regular apathetic bartender who couldn't give two hoots if the clientele was engaged. Boring place unless you really want to go drown your sorrows or pop in with a date and be left alone in the corner to converse without ANY noise or laughter interrupting you. It is a quiet place and that has its advantages under certain situations. However, if you are looking to go have a beer and converse with strangers no matter how skilled a conversationalist you are, you likely will have a difficult time because the place is so quiet and the bartender is so detached from actually talking to customers. The usual bartender as of 1 year ago -- yeah an old review, but a conversation tonight about why businesses fail included a brief discussion about this hole in the wall -- wanted to be anywhere on the planet but there. Sure, most of us don't want to be at our jobs, but it looked like torture to this poor soul. Freaking the dentist office. Everyone their looking at their drink in some solemn reverie. Clearly, not an experienced bartender with any skin in the game. Complete bored and couldn't care if the place flopped the next day. Likely had daddy War-bucks paying for school. Typical early 20s something employee who could care less if the business succeeds. Clearly, felt it was just another job and in one week could have another. The bulls would be paid. The sad part is being a small place, the right person with the right charm could really make this waterhole shine with a little better music and more warm setting. I let like was at the juice bar in 2001 Space Odyssey, except Hal had no interest in keeping me "trapped" for another beer. Without any charisma or charm in a cool futuristic environment, it felt worse than the frozen yogurt shop it replaced where at least the employees where hopped up on sugar. When the bartender is more intent on checking their facebook to see picture of their friend lunch in Detroit that day than interacting with clients and working the crowd to keep the conversation flowing in a small bar it is a business on its heels and not long for this world. The place has a great location, but will fail like most businesses do because the business doesn't realize what it is selling. Bartenders have to be engaged conversationalist. Pay a Real bartender, even if it cost you a few more bucks an hour, not some clueless kid. This place embodies every that is wrong with the out of touch "kids" of this. This is by far my favorite place in Nashville. The staff is incredible and have all become friends. They are so intentional when getting to know customers. Customer service is truly the best I have found. They make their regulars feel like family! They have the best beer selection and I can always find a handful I enjoy.
