I love this place for many things! Ambiance is very comfortable and I'm hearing that they are going to change up the space soon and hopefully make it even more comfortable. Plenty of chairs and places to sit and enjoy coffee either by yourself or with others. Baristas are always super friendly and accommodating! You can tell it's high quality coffee here! They really do focus on the good stuff for sure! I have had both the honey bear as well as the matcha tea latte. I'm always amazed by the diversity of coffee shops in Cincinnati. I made my first visit to Deeper Roots and boy, was I pleasantly surprised! The Oakley location is a little small but still a warm and inviting place - a few things of note - It is hard to find - not much in the way of signage and my gps directions placed me at Kitchen Social - I figured I'd go inside and check out the shops - but, the cafe has an outside entrance - after some effort I managed to find the cafe. The first thing I found was a warm welcome and the pastry case - the pastries were appetizing and freshly baked - always a plus! My coffee came out perfectly and quickly - amazing service and an even more satisfying experience! The only downside, which is not really a critique, is the difficulty of finding the entrance - free parking in a parking garage is a big plus! I tried the brewed coffee and a pour over just for comparison. Both coffees were equally delicious - I could taste the subtle notes of the coffee as described - very, very smooth. There were many people on their laptops which is fine but it eliminated seating options because for example, one person was working seated in a 3-person couch. What a cute little spot near Norwood! Service was friendly and quick on a weekday. I have now tried a plain oat milk latte, the honey bear latte, and a GF zucchini muffin. All were delicious! Came here for a quick coffee and to knock out some work. They have an array of different seating areas and it was relatively busy for it being late evening. Seems like a great spot for locals and the like to have consistent coffee. The coffee was hot and fresh. The service was friendly and prompt. I have always enjoyed Deeper Roots coffee. Since giving up drinking coffee, I hadn't been in in quite some time, but on a chilly day, I was walking through Oakley and needed a warm drink. I stopped into Deeper Roots and was excited to see that they had severalll non-coffee options and some hot tea lattes. I ordered a London Fog. The barista was excited to make it for me since they had just gotten in a new concentrate. She recommended I sweeten it with honey. Sadly this made the drink far sweeter than any London Fog I have ever had, so it took away from the experience a bit, but it was still tasty. I also appreciated the kindness and enthusiasm of the staff. I will definitely be back for a non-doff drink sometime! I will just know to politely decline the honey in my London Fog ;) read more

Having suffered, blah weak or punch in the face drip hotel,coffee, when I've been on the road for a week and I get back home the first thing I do is make a pour over with my excellent coffee, no matter the time of day. No, I don't go to Starbucks (accepting emergencies). I like my coffee to be good not bitter. I seek out local shops that serve Java justice. This is an excellent, small and well orchestrated coffee shop. I've never seen a pour over machine like the ones they have and. The workers are knowledgeable and friendly. When I travel to Cincinnati, I will stay close to this location specifically to get my morning coffee here. read more

Coffee is terrific. I most often order an espresso, which they delightfully serve with a sparkling water on the side. Sometimes I'll indulge in the signature Honey Bear (w/ skim milk). The scones are terrific. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. My only complaint is the space. Location in Oakley is great, but the seating in the store is very limited. My church also has a standing order for coffee. Delivery of beans is always prompt and orders are correct. I prefer the South American single origin for drip coffee. read more

I am a huge coffee snob who travels for work and Deeper Roots is (in my opinion) the best roaster in the US. I use their Alchemy blend at home almost exclusively for espresso and always have another bag of one of their fresh roasts for pour overs. The lattes and coffee from the stores never disappoints either. The employees always give good recommendations and make great drinks. Highly highly recommend! Visited on a Saturday morning before a workout and it was very busy! I opted for just a hot coffee with almond milk and received it very quickly which was great considering the large crowd. It was fresh, and did not have any burnt taste which I appreciated as sometimes at cafes with drip I have found the coffee to be burnt! I was not able to have any pastries due to food allergies, but my friend opted to have a croissant and it looked super flaky and fresh! She also had a cappuccino which looked delicious. I'm giving Deeper Roots an extra star in this updated review. I've been to Deeper Roots twice in the past four days that I've been home for Thanksgiving Break. I hope it's saying something that I've frequented Deeper Roots so often, considering I'm coming Philadelphia, a city which is also known for its coffee. While I haven't had a pourover from Deeper Roots in a while, I want to update this review based on their lattes. The mocha I had today had a respectably symmetrical, striated latte art pattern today. There's only one coffee shop I've tried in Seattle that has done my latte art better. I couldn't take it for granted and snapped a photo of it, which I've attached to this review. After securing a lid on my cup of coffee, I tasted the drink, and I found myself closing my eyes to appreciate the supple foam. It was milky and airy and lovely. This mocha has a rich dark chocolate flavor. Any chocolate lover will love it. I have had very artificial tasting chocolate flavor before in a mocha, and it was so disappointing and unappetizing, so Deeper Roots' mocha is up there for me. My one minor gripe is that the chocolate flavor is stronger at the bottom, so next time, I'm going to swirl the drink around in the cup after visually enjoying the latte art and drinking off the foam. I had to drink my way through about a third of the drink to get the deep chocolate flavor. The top third of the drink tasted didn't taste bad, though--just milkier and less coffee-like, but this makes sense given how lattes are made. My last comment about the mocha I had today is that there was not a single ounce of bitterness in the espresso, which is very impressive. A lousy espresso-based drink will leave the rancid bitter flavor in your mouth. Not this. It's hard to achieve that, and Deeper Roots has. I can also expect my lattes to be the same quality almost every time, which is one of the most important features of a good coffee shop imo. I do not like to spend $5-6 on a drink, just to be disappointed, and I have not had that experience at Deeper Roots. Overall, Deeper Roots is quite the beast, and I'd say it would hold up in other bigger cities where there is more coffee shop competition. read more

Went to get my usual smooth, delicious decaf beans from here. Much to my excitement, I found low caffeine beans for that tiny kick I need without feeling shaky. I have to admit that I don't give Cincinnati any credit for food or I guess really anything... but I had a fantastic experience at Deeper Roots when I was in town for a visit. I'm used to leaning on Starbucks when I'm in Ohio for the convenience and I just didn't think the market could support quality, but I was very wrong. We started with a couple pour overs which is my usual. They were excellent. Expertly prepared and very high quality single origin beans. We were so happy we couldn't stop. We had eight of there specialty drinks before we left. Everything was excellent, interesting and delicious. We then spent the next two mornings looking for anything that could compare. From downtown to the east side to Newport we looked and found some good stuff but nothing close. The service was excellent. We were guided without pretense by a staff that was there to do a great job. Insightful recommendations and a super friendly attitude. I'll be back every time I'm in town. Deeper Roots is pretty good. I happened to notice them while walking past their location on my way to the Spotted Goose. Apparently, they have been there for years and I never noticed them. I was running errands headed to an function and decided to stop by. I'm glad I did. The service was good and their pastries are good. I personally did not like the coffee drink I ordered but that's because my preference for coffee isn't super strong. My drink had a very very strong coffee flavor. I think if you are a heavy coffee drinker this place is for you. Considering I like certain coffee beverages that aren't super strong, the one I ordered wasn't for me. I ordered an Iced Cherry Cordial and a Raisin & Turmeric Pastry. The drink had such a strong coffee flavor that I literally took two sips and didn't drink the rest. It was just way to strong for my personal preference. The pastry was very good. The raisin with the slight hint of turmeric with other spices was amazing. The pastry dough was flakey and slightly tough to the pull/tear. You actually had to bite it and it had the perfect chew. I really enjoyed the pastry. I also thought the combination was different but it worked. Overall, Deeper Roots has amazing service and pastries. I was asking a lot of questions trying to figure out what I wanted and the two girls were very patient and answered all my questions. There was also a line forming outside and they were still patient. I really appreciated their patience and menu guidance. I should have told them I didn't like very strong but that was my fault. Visited on a busy Saturday morning. The line was long but it moved forward very quickly. Staff was nice and within 3 minutes of ordering we had our drinks (drip coffee with oat milk and banana Forster latte) and out pastries (zucchini cherry chocolate bread and cinnamon roll). My latte (pictured) was delicious, the latte foam was perfect and coated in a dusting of cinnamon that enhanced the banana foster flavor perfectly. The zucchini bread was moist and the cherry/chocolate inclusions were a sweet compliment. The cinnamon roll was light and fluffy with a hint of citrus. We sat inside, the space is cozy and charming.
