Whenever I'm home from college, Deeper Roots is my go-to coffee shop in Cincy. Located in Oakley Square, it is the perfect walk from my house in Hyde Park. Deeper Roots has a down-to-earth feel right when you walk in; with calm music and dim lighting, it is the perfect place to get some studying or work done! There is plenty of seating (although it looks small from the outside) and outlets for you to charge your devices. There is also wifi! Best local cafe to get your coffee and baked goods! The coffee is always the best/high quality part and they make everything in house from scratch. They also carry their own selection of coffee beans to buy and they do their own roasting at DR. Their various cafes are all amazingly decorated, clean, and have a great ambiance if you what to sit and work, meet friends and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. Finally made it here! Every I'm around Kenwood on Sunday I look for "coffee nearby" and I don't why but I always do that when the shop is about to closed, so big accomplishment. Went on Sunday around 2 pm. The place is cozy and adorable. It's not too big but to me it feels spacious because of the set up. It all looks neat and clean. Plus, I love that they have a parking lot right next to it! We were created right away so friendly staff that's always a plus in small places. We ordered two cappuccinos with oat milk, on that note I was kind of sad there was no almond milk option, BUT the coffee tasted so incredibly good that I don't think I would ask for almond if that was an option. I had first heard of this place in Lexington, Kentucky! There's a cool coffee shop there called Lussi Brown that sells their stuff, so I definitely wanted to check this place out since I loved it there! Parking is amazing! There's a private lot for a bunch of the businesses on that strip just right next to it. Yay for free parking!! I came here on a Saturday at 12:15 with two friends and there weren't any tables yet. As soon as we ordered, some girls left their table so we quickly claimed it! They use a lot of types of furniture here. They got seating against the walls, interesting looking tables, high tables. The light fixtures were pretty cool! They were attached to red wiring which was a nice pop of color to the black and white theme they had going on. The space definitely isn't large. I didn't see a ton of people here on their computers. I saw people reading books or parents with kids, or older adults. It's a very classy ish looking shop. I ordered a maple cortada which had orange zest in it. I didn't expect it to be sweet but it was. Still really good and I would highly recommend it! I'm not usually up for fruity flavors in coffee unless it's raspberry but this was pretty stellar! My friends got a cappuccino and an oh hey latte. My friend thought the cappuccino wasn't very sweet, but the barista said that most of their drinks are sweet. She ended up switching with my friend for the latte. LOL. Deeper Roots is another place for hipsters to get coffee. It's one of the many locally owned coffee shops in the neighborhood. This is the popular area of Oakley. It has more of a focus on coffee. There's not as much effort on food I had the Kenyan coffee. It's about $3 for the regular size. The shop was busy so it took awhile, but it wasn't too long of a wait. It has a few tables in the back. There's more seating in the front. It has a few comfortable padded benches and chairs. The shop can get really crowded so it's sometimes better to take it to go. It's nice to have somewhere locally owned unlike the chains. It's not as phony of an atmosphere. The bad thing is it's popular so it's crowded inside. read more

Awesome coffee shop steps away from Findlay Market! There are so many custom drink options. In a group of 5 we only got normal 1 latte. For the exciting drinks we ordered the Winterberry, Honeybear, Peppermint Mocha, and Ginger Spice latte. Having tried all of them, and all being fantastic my favorite was the Ginger Spice which tasted just like a speculoos cookie, yum! I dislike overly sweet drinks (ahem giant coffee corporation with the mermaid logo) and found Deeper Roots to be the perfect amount of sweetness. Deeper Roots also freshly ground each espresso drink. The quality of the coffee beans is top tier, they are fresh, fruity, chocolatey, and not acidic at all. The aroma of coffee was not overpowering and I could see myself working from the location once indoor seating is reopened. Covid protocol allows for 4 people at a time to wait inside. We had a group of 5 so we waited outside until there was room to order. The barista was wearing a mask and gloves so we felt comfortable with the safety measures in place. This is a great coffee shop in a great location. Parents, if you're taking your kids next door to Blue Manatee (which btw you totally should) make a point to stop by here and grab yourself a great coffee treat. The decor in here is really beautiful and makes the place very inviting. The tiny clipboards were aparently made by using the 3D printer at the Cincinnati Library. Who knew!?!? There is also a lot more seating than it appears from the outside. Also, it must be said that the wallpaper here is super cute! They offer many coffee options iced and hot as well as pour over options. The staff was really great at making recommendations and they suggested the honey cinnamon iced latte when I told them my likes and dislikes and they were spot on! Stopped at Deeper Roots Coffee on a Sunday morning before yoga. What a great start to a day that actually turned into my Self-care Sunday. I ordered a cappuccino and croissant and dined in while wasting some time until it was time for the next stop. The order was made quickly and on the fly. The seating ranges from small two seater tables, side by side lounge stairs and larger high seating tables for groups. Walking in during a busy time may be a little overwhelming thinking it'll be too long to wait, but it's probably less busy than it looks. When you walk in, your walking right into the counter with the expresso machine. A line of three or four could make for a line to the door, but there is plenty of room and ordering is simple. Decided to grab a bag of in house roasted Sumatra beans for home. Now I'm enjoying cold brew and hot French pressed Deeper Roots coffee at home. read more

I met a friend here on a Sunday afternoon around 1pm to work on a project for school. I had read a lot of reviews for this place and knew it might be difficult to find a table, but it was a good halfway meeting spot for me and my friend, and I have had Deeper Roots bookmarked for a long time, so we took a chance. When we arrived, there were no tables available, but a girl sitting by herself at a four-person high-top table invited us to sit with her, stating she would be heading out shortly. Perfect! We claimed our spots and went to grab drinks. When I got to the register, I asked about their options for substitutes to dairy milk. They not only have the now-standard almond milk, but they also had a macadamia nut milk option. SCORE. So I ordered a chai tea latte with the macadamia. My friend ordered a hot chocolate. When we sat down and took our first drinks, we were both so impressed. So many places cannot do hot chocolate or chai lattes well, and both were DELICIOUS. The atmosphere of this place is great, and the employees were so patient, friendly and helpful. Prices were right where you'd expect them to be, and for the quality of what you get, I would say they're spot on. I'd absolutely come back and take a chance on their limited seating again, it's so worth it!! read more

Deeper Roots is the definition of "Yay! I'm a fan!" to me. Although I wanted the experience to be a 5-star, I'm just not sure if I can aim that high. Nevertheless, I enjoyed Deeper Roots! Location is prime -- in the heart of Oakley with a huge sign on the side (and next to a parking lot! Nice!), you can't miss it! The ambiance inside was great. If I was staying to do work instead of just grabbing a cup to go, I would have really enjoyed it. Modern, but a nice touch of old school. Cool vibe going for them! Staff pretty friendly, and I loved how they were locally owned. The coffee was okay -- I've had better, had worse. You can't really go wrong with an iced latte! I tried the lavender. My friend tried the vanilla. Out of the two, I would recommend the vanilla, but both are good! Overall, decent: I'm a fan! For the area, it's a great coffee shop! Glad I stopped by and will more likely than not return to get some work done, but I wouldn't call this my go-to location. read more

I came here for the first time this past weekend and I really enjoyed it! Obviously it is one of the most well-known coffee shops in the Cincy-area and it is definitely for a reason. Fair warning - there is not a lot of seating at all. Like maybe 15-20 people can sit in the entire store. Luckily, a lot of people were getting their orders to-go so it wasn't a super big deal for me but I wouldn't necessarily pop in here during the work day with the expectation to grab a table. But if you can find a seat, the aesthetic is so beautiful - very minimalistic and chic. The coffee is on the stronger side, which I enjoyed. I got an oat milk latte and it was definitely stronger on the espresso side versus the milk side so this is a great place to go if you enjoy the taste of coffee! It is a little bit out of the way for me, but I did really enjoy it and would love to come back. read more

Best coffee in Cincinnati. Each location is staffed with the best people. I'm not your typical OTR hipster coffee snob but they still accept me. To be honest I think they like me more than them. This wasn't my first tango with Deeper Roots, but it was the first time I had visited this location. Upon arriving, I found out they have a parking lot, which is a huge help if you're coming here to get some work done for a bit (there's nothing worse than feeding a meter). There was limited seating inside, so may sure you arrive early if you want to snag a table. I ordered an iced coffee (I noticed that they had nitro cold-brew as well, but I'm a little sensitive to caffeine). The iced coffee was great and gave me lots of caffeine-induced energy to keep me going. I also tried one of the biscuits, it was buttery and delicious. The staff was super friendly and while the coffee shop was consistently busy, they kept the line flowing. I'll be back when I need to get some caffeine and I'm in the area. read more

I had been meaning to come here for the longest time, and I'm glad I finally did. There's a parking lot so you don't have to worry about spot hunting unlike other coffee shops. Deeper Roots is also in a good area, close to many shops and restaurants. The interior decision is nice, but nothing homey or elegant that I've seen at other shops (if the coffee is good who cares, right?). My biggest gripe is that there is a relative lack of seating given the size of the shop. I had come here before to study but didn't stay because there weren't any tables available mid-day on a weekday. Today I came in early and didn't have that problem. I had a latte, an Ethiopian Chemex coffee, and fancy avocado toast I forgot the name of. All were delicious, which I commend Deeper Roots on. The Ethiopian coffee, had wonderful berry accent. Overall, I'm a fan. Seating has been an issue for me here, but mostly because it gets crowded (not unreasonably so) at times. The experience didn't blow me away but I enjoyed coming here. read more

Had a quick business meeting here as it was convenient and the other party had been here in the past. I must start by saying I don't drink coffee so I was a bit anxious I'd find something I wanted. But my eyes found a list of teas available and specifically a lime ginger one. I love most things with ginger. It was served with a large cup and the tea in a French press type vessel. It was excellent. Parking lot is free and right next door. The space is small so it can get crowded but this is a must try for coffee fans. read more

Having had this coffee shop on my list for years now, I finally had a chance to go. I had heard so much about this establishment (and their many other locations) and how it's the best coffee in Cincinnati. Well, I am here to say that that just may be the truth. I got one of their signature drinks, called the lemon drop. I was incredibly surprised at just how lemon-y it was. It wasn't overly so, though. There were also notes of coriander and it was so smooth and easy to drink I think I might have a regular drink order already. They also had many pastries in their cabinet which they source from local bakeries. I ended up with the everything twist which was a croissant dough covered in everything bagel seasoning, and filled with a dill forward cream cheese. It was delicious. Aside from what I got, there is plenty more to explore with about 30 different roasts that you can order or take home and brew yourself! I highly recommend checking this serious coffee joint out. read more

My husband, and I, decided to visit some of the local coffee shops, because were pretty addicted to coffee. Deeper Roots was a cool atmosphere, and our drinks were really good. I had a 'Say Hey Latte' and he had the Guatemalan pour over coffee. We both enjoyed our drinks. We also got drinks to go. My husband got a Mocha and I got the 'Holy Moly'. We liked those as well. The staff was friendly and helpful. We hope to make it back sometime in the future! The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5, was because it felt a little small and cramped inside. This is a fantastic coffee shop and great addition to Oakley. Deeper Roots kept it simple by not offering too many options. The standard coffee options such as ready-to-go coffee, pour over, and espresso drinks (cappuccino, latte, etc.) are all available. The offering that I am very happy to see so close to home is the cold nitro coffee on tap. I drank a glass of it the other day and it was delicious; it's the perfect warm weather coffee. They also have a few specialty drinks and some tea offerings. There are bags of coffee beans for sale if you want to make some coffee for yourself at home. There is also a small refrigerator case with some bottled beverages. The food options are also few but delicious. The best part is the simple sounding but absolutely delicious toast and jam. When I stopped in there were two options for bread, whole grain sourdough or eleven grain, and two options for spreads, lemon rosemary pink peppercorn marmalade or strawberry ginger balsamic jam. There was also fresh ricotta to spread between the bread and jam. The concept might sound simple but really good fresh bread combined with some of the most flavorful marmalade I have ever tried is a winning combination. Croissants and cookies are also available. The front space of the café is open and bright with lots of light. There are high-top tables providing enough seating for a decent number of people. There is also a small space towards the back that has a few small tables and some chairs and benches. There was also a bench on the sidewalk out front. Service has been very friendly and made me feel welcome. I will definitely return for coffee beans, cold nitro coffee, and some delicious toast and jam. read more

No worries, Deeper Roots is still 5-star (6-star????) worthy, but now that I stop here at least once a week, I felt as if I needed a longer explanation. I have had almost every type of coffee drink on the menu--latte, cappuccino, espresso, espresso macchiato, pour over, Nitro (!!!), and just black coffee. Everything--and I mean everything, every time--has been outstanding. Every barista is extremely friendly and helpful. The service is prompt.
