My husband and I stayed here for four nights for our honeymoon back in July. We really enjoyed our stay here. We stayed in one of the cabins- the Sunset Suite. These cabins come with a private hot tub, a BBQ grill, and a nice patio. Our cabin had a nice view of the sunset and the Deer Harbor Marina. The location is very quiet, peaceful, and remote. It is about a 20 minute drive to the town of Eastsound, where all the major restaurants and businesses on the island are located. The location is also known for having deer walk around the property at night time. The cabin also had a few basic kitchen essentials, a microwave, a Keurig, dishes, utensils, and a wine opener. The TV had a full range of streaming services to choose from. The cabin was small, very homey. We loved the hot tub and the views. It was perfect for our getaway. Matthew's Smokehouse, a BBQ restaurant, was right next to our suite. I honestly wished this place was cheaper as we paid around $200/night and they add a nice $500 cleaning fee on top of everything else. I believe this is very expensive for what you get. We had a nice stay, but will probably look elsewhere to stay the next time we visit the islands. read more

We stayed in the lodge, minimum of two nights ran us $400. They also have cabins available for a premium. Rooms are small and dècor has three decades of catching up to do. I'm really glad that I received a weekend stay as a gift- because if I had spent any money of my own ($65 pet deposit and taxes and $55 ferry ride) I would've been PISSED. What they charge people to stay here is outrageous. First of all- the "cabin" is a glorified motel room. The "fully stocked" kitchen includes 3 forks 2 spoons, 2 coffee cups that are too small for the Keurig, and 1 wine glass. The "kitchen" is terrible. The two burners barely work, and you can't tell what temperature they are on. And the only oven is a toaster oven- with no tray provided. For being out in the middle of nowhere- it's super loud. The hot tub on the deck is SUPER old and loud, and kept me up for both nights. The DVD player doesn't work and the fireplace only worked half of the time. Also- the white towels provided (only provided 2 for a two night stay for 2) were stained. A little bleach would help. The on site restaurant is closed for the season.....which I wasn't aware of until I went to make a reservation. I know it's the off season- but you should treat all of your guests the same. Also- they expect you to keep your pets off of the furniture- even though they charge a pet fee lol. I'm sorry. If I pay for my dog to be here- he's climbing all over the furniture. My husband and I stayed there for two nights to celebrate my birthday. We took advantage of the groupon deal and got a rate on the pond cottage. We read the reviews and wanted more privacy so we paid a little extra for the pond cottage. It was a two bedroom home with all the amenities. Hot tub on the patio and light breakfast in the fridge. The tub on the master bedroom is only big enough for one person. We got no reception while there but we were away to get away so we didn't mind. We didn't eat at the restaurant but we did cook in the fully furnished kitchen. The grounds could use some upkeep but err didn't have any problems with check in and the place was nice and worth it. We will return with our family and children but I think we will only stay in the pond cottage. read more

This review is for the catering only! We used Deer Harbor to Cater our wedding welcome party at Woodside Farm on Orcas Island. We had to make an effort to lock down a contract and finalize the catering plan, but once everything was set it was a wonderful experience. They arrived to the site on time. The food was delicious - everyone was raving. They provided tasty salads, oven baked pizzas, and pies from scratch that were seriously amazing. We brought our own alcohol and they provided a bar tender, ice and serving utensils/plates/cups. It was perfect! read more

My fiance and I stayed here in late October. We got a livingsocial deal. We got in when it was raining but eventually clear up. We were welcomed with a deer running by when we drove in. The person who checked us was nice, and we were given a room with an electric fire place. This place was very relaxing and peaceful. We had a wonderful scenic view on the surrounding areas plus bunnies hopping around our windows. The bed was super soft, and we got a little basket with some snacks, croissants, and two SUPER green bananas (my fiance took this home, and 1.5 month later it never ripe). The room was rustic comfort, and the house was welcoming with relaxing commons areas. We would definitely recommend. read more

We really enjoyed this place, especially the intimate "local" knowledge shared with us by the gracious manager Ron (in the R.V. next to the main office). We stayed in the lodge on a weeknight in March with only one other room being used on the other floor so we didn't hear anything. Had a pleasant chat with them before retiring and again in the morning. It was obvious that people had put a lot of thought into the little things as well as the general decor, etc. The beds were comfortable, the shower had three settings and decent shampoo/conditioner/gel in the dispenser, the goodie basket and carafe of wine were lovely, the gas fireplace was a nice touch. Location was lovely, complete with rabbits and deer and a view (albeit limited) of the harbor. Negatives: Wi-fi was sketchy at best but even cell phone coverage is sketchy all over the island (though I know that's not really related). When roll-away was unfolded it was very difficult to move around it to get to the bathroom. Forgot to mention something which might be significant..... we blew a fuse...twice! just by using the little hairdryer that comes with the room. Don't know if #8 is particularly finicky but....it's good to have directions on how to easily fix this (and it is pretty easy, once you know how) rather than get frustrated and wait for someone to come and then come back again. read more

For Christmas Eve we decided to get away from it all and have a peaceful night away on Orcas Island. Well it sounds like we should have stayed in a Cottage. We got the "Group On" deal and stayed in the lodge... which reminded me of college dorm rooms. Super small; and paper thin walls. I am really glad we stayed there on a night when only one other couple was there. Hearing them in the bathroom in the morning was - awkward. The wine and cheese plate that was part of the 'special' to greet us was... interesting- cut cheddar cheese; M&M's and nuts; and a little pitcher of wine. The fireplace in the room is fake; which was disappointing. The bed was the worst of all - the mattress was super old so they put a 'Memory Foam" topper on it to make it better which was a bad idea on a bad mattress. My boyfriend and I woke up in pain. Could not even sleep in because we didn't want to be in the bed any longer. $120.00 for the Room $40.00 for the Ferry $40.00 Vern's Breakfast ------------------------------ Should have stayed home. read more

Hubby and I consider this place to be the best in the San Juans and we have stayed at more than one. The family that runs this place is great. They really care about their guests and work hard to make sure you feel welcome. By the way, the owner's son runs the restaurant. And does a great job, just like his folks with the main hotel. We stay in the cottages. They are located around an old orchard and are completely private from the everything else. They have their own front porches for enjoying your morning coffee on. And, they have private hot tubs on their own private back patio (that face the beautiful forest) for finishing your day off. Some of our best moments were sitting in that hot tub, sipping some great Washington wines, listening to the sounds of the forest, and staring that the impossibly dark, star-filled sky. If that's not enough to relax you, they also offer spa services. The spa is not a full spa like in a luxury hotel, but it does offer massages. You can book pretty easy and the cost is reasonable for a resort. The cottages are well appointed with everything you could possibly need. Including a fireplace, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, tv with cable, hot tub (as I said), robes, and more. And, every morning, someone will bring you a breakfast basket, full of muffins and stuff to enjoy with your coffee. (Like I said, they try hard here.) Have your coffee and muffins on the front porch while you watch the bunnies play in the old orchard areas. Or around back, while you scan for deer and other woodland creatures. And, did I mention that every time we have come, we have done so with the dogs. Dogs are welcome in the orchard cottages. And the floors are not carpeted so if your dog decides to get car sick, you can clean it quick and easy. Parking is right in front of your cottage, so it is easy to bring in your luggage, golf clubs, dog crate, whatever. Easy. Lastly, the road from the ferry landing to the cottages winds around the island providing you with beautiful views and a great drive. (Go slow at night to avoid killing wildlife.) read more

I had inquired about the TravelZoo rate I saw online and rudely told that I'd need to book two rooms. I was going to get this for my mom and dad, who recently retired and is visiting. I read the cautions, all of them, but I failed to heed them. Several previous reviews described situations that indicated the behavior of the owner. Unfortunately, I quickly discovered what others had already experienced: the owner is abrupt, inconsiderate and greedy. We had plans to meet friends at the dock in Deer Harbor to go sailing. While I saw several more attractive listings in Eastsound, I chose the Deer Harbor Inn in spite of my hesitations. Logistically, it was just considerably more convenient to stay in Deer harbor near the boat. I requested a two night stay and my credit card was immediately charged the full amount. Unfortunately, an unpredictable situation arose and we were not going to be able to meet our friend's boat as planned. I called to inform the Inn of our cancellation. I was not expecting a full refund, but was not prepared for the reception I received. It was immediately abrupt and rude. I was sternly informed I would not be getting any refund. The tone and demeanor was very off-putting. The conversation did not go well. The owner boldly announced that cancellation rules are "on the website". While it is true the topic of cancellation is mentioned, none of the policies clearly addressed my exact situation. The website begins with: "Cancellations are subject to a fee of 20%... ". Whether intentional or not, the reader is left with the feeling that some refund is possible. The most disturbing aspect of this encounter wasn't being charged the full two day amount, but the attitude and total lack of any semblance of caring or hospitality. In all, this was a totally unpleasant experience that was not called for and did not have to occur. This establishment does not deserve my patronage. read more

We came here after purchasing a LivingSocial voucher for a one-night stay. The voucher also included a $20 credit for the spa, which we didn't use. We also couldn't try the restaurant, as it's on "winter hours" (only open on weekends) and we came during the middle of the week. It's a nice little place. We were actually the only people staying in the lodge (room 3) so we had the place to ourselves. The room was adorable; the fireplace was on, everything was clean, there was a Keurig coffeemaker, and the bed was comfortable. They'd also included a little breakfast basket for the morning, including bananas, croissants, and juice. On the second floor, there's a little TV area plus they have tons of DVDs, books, and board games for entertainment. Although we didn't make use of it, there's also a hot-tub outside that looked nice. The only real complaint I have is that it's sort of far-off from the rest of the island. I don't blame the Inn for that, of course, but it's something I wish I'd known beforehand. It might have been nice to stay a little closer to East Sound, especially since the Deer Harbor restaurant was closed. All in all, though, I really enjoyed my stay here and would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice little island getaway. I think it would be really nice during the summer! read more

We stayed in one of the Orchard Cottages which sleeps 2-3 (king bed plus a full size fouton). The cottage was really adorable, lots of windows and tastefully decorated and complete with its own private hot tub on the deck! Nothing quite like sitting in the hot tub with the rain beating down watching hummingbirds swoop in to drink from the flowers right about you. There is a nice central yard area with benches, ping pong table, and some other games. The inn does not exactly look out over the water although you can see bits of the harbor and we caught a lovely sunset - the marina is only a ten minute walk down the road. The central lawn area was very nicely kept although the cottages don't have a lot of privacy from each other. We didn't eat in the restaurant but we did peek in and it was gorgeous inside and the menu looked spectacular (a bit on the higher end). The owner/manager, Ron, was very friendly and helpful in checking us in and recommending things to do on the island. Overall we had a lovely stay and will definitely return! read more

We stayed one Saturday night in a lodge room. Pros: Comfortable bed with a mattress topper adding extra padding. Fireplace in rooms. Nice amenities including coffeemaker and some breakfast items. Friendly staff. Quiet, scenic property with deer and plump rabbits. Free WiFi (which is great since our cell phones didn't get service out there) Cons: Restaurant is nearly ALL seafood and my husband is allergic. Was wishing for a little more variety in the non-seafood choices. We did not eat there for this reason. Distance from the main part of the island (Eastsound), but didn't deduct stars for that as it is what it is. It was our first time on Orcas and I think next time I'll stay closer to Eastsound. Overall, this is a lovely little property with a real family feel to it and nice attention to the little details. read more

I purchased a Groupon and took Advantage of the great price. I was in the lodge room. It was pretty cheap and the hotel was just fine. It was clean when I got there and the people helping with the hotel rooms were nice! The Website lists that there's a complementary breakfast but I would take that with a grain of salt. What they mean by complementary breakfast is two granola bars two yogurt cups and two orange juices. Which is nice, but not too filling LOL The restaurant on the site is extremely expensive so I wasn't interested in going there. Plates were anywhere from 18 to 30.. Even the salad was crazy expensive. So I thought to myself that I would just go to the local grocery store get some snacks and save a little bit of money. When I got back to the hotel room I realized that they didn't have any plates, forks, knives, no freezer or a toaster. Which is fine! But keep in mind if you bring food back that there are no plates to use even if you want to microwave something all u have is a napkin. I could've really used a freezer for my ice cream ;) haha oh well. The hot tub was nice but a little bit dirty. Overall the price was good for the room but I would never pay above the Groupon price. It was just right for me though because I really wanted to go see whales so I wasn't too worried about how nice the hotel was. It was clean enough and useful. read more

Had a restful and comfortable stay at Deer Harbor Inn.  We had a room in the lodge--it looks rustic but nicely appointed rooms, with a comfortable bed. Cozy sitting area and patios in the 'lodge' part, with stock of extra supplies for room if needed.  (I'll note we were on bottom floor - noise from people above was noticeable, and they weren't being particularly loud. If noise at night/morning bothers you, might  want to request room on top floor or take a separate cabin. We didn't see inside any of the cabins but photos show them to be nice inside as well. Not a lot to do at the Inn-- small grounds, with boccie, horseshoes, and a hot tub. A walkway leads down to Deer Harbor marina and the Island Pie Pizza/Italian restaurant (check ahead for days open). Marina has various activities available. But not a lot of other activities around area, so expect to be driving to other parts of the Island. The on-site restaurant (dinner only) while pricey, offered a good dining experience. It has a large patio with beautiful view and tranquil setting. The menu is heavy on seafood and meat, which neither my wife or I like, but they had a Caesar salad, and a very tasty vegetable fettuccine in pesto. Piano player was a nice touch, and wonderful conversation with our server who was from the island and was able to provide insight and history.  Other than in the restaurant we never saw any Inn staff--at check-in there is a small bag with your name+key. BTW, think ahead for breakfast--if you don't bring your own, you'll be driving 15+ minutes to get to EastSound and some places for brekkie/brunch. Came to Orcas Island bike riding and stayed at the Deer Harbor inn for two nights. The cottage was plenty big enough for 3 adults and 2 small kids. The staff was very friendly and gave us complimentary baked goods that were awesome! The hot-tub was fantastic after a long grueling bike ride to the top of mount constitution in the rain. I did not eat at the restaurant but according to a local it is a great place to eat. read more

This is a fun rustic place. We stayed in the lodge in room #5. The rooms are cozy & comfortable. A nice continental breakfast was provided with homemade granola, yogurt, boiled eggs, fruit & English muffins. There is a coffee maker in the room - Starbucks coffee was provided. The bed is comfortable. There is a hot tub in a little gazebo behind the building. We didn't use it, but checked it out and it seemed nice. There is plenty of parking. Free Wi-Fi a major plus! If you are looking for a stylish, trendy place to stay, this is not your place. If you are looking for something comfortable & cozy, you will like this place! read more

Had a very nice short stay here using a Travelzoo deal. While it may be the only place to stay/eat on this side of the island it is right down the road from the Deer Harbor Marina where kayak and whale watching tours leave from. The staff was really friendly and informative and our room was nice and clean. They have ping pong and bocce in the yard as well as a hot tub (I'm not too sure how often any of them are used though). Look are especially deceiving here. We booked this place during October and thought it would a nice getaway. It unfortunately was not. There is no privacy in the entire building(if you're in the lodge). The walls are thin, the hairdryer doesn't work, one bedroom (out of 8) controls the reception for all of the TVs. So if someone unplugs it everyone's reception is gone. There is no one to meet and greet you when you get there and tell you a little bit about the island or anything. You just pick a bag up with your name and go to your room. There is just zero customer service around here and no one to talk with for the Inn. Will never reconsider staying here unfortunately. read more

We were another couple to find Deer Harbor Inn via an internet coupon. Ours was through Living Social, which sounds like it may have been a better deal than some of the others. With one night's stay, it included a bottle of wine, a smoked salmon boxed lunch and $10 off at the restaurant for dinner. When we arrived, there was some confusion about which coupon we were using (I wasn't surprised about that because the woman I spoke to when I booked the stay seemed flustered and disorganized). It worked in our favor though, as the room was already set up for Groupon customers (who got a carafe of mystery red wine and a cheese and cracker plate). A man brought up our bottle of pinot grigio and smoked-salmon-and-cracker-boxes, and then said we could just keep all the Groupon goodies as well. Score! My boyfriend likes white wine and I prefer red, and we were left with plenty of both to indulge in. We stayed in room 6 of the lodge, which I'd recommend over the others as it had the nicest view. The room was clean, quaint and quiet with a squishy bed and an electric fire place. The man who was maintaining the grounds was also the person who checked us in and we thought we was very friendly and cool. My boyfriend and I are far too disorganized to book a massage or a whale watching trip in advance, so we missed out on those features of Deer Harbor Inn. I'm sure they would've been nice though. We always can find time to eat, however, and we did make it to the restaurant for dinner. The food was very good, but a bit overpriced. We felt a bit awkward being the only people in the restaurant at first (but it WAS a Monday night and eventually two other groups arrived). Our server was pretty unprofessional and rude, which was my biggest complaint about the whole experience. Overall, it was a lovely stay. I'm not sure I'd stay at Deer Harbor Inn again without a coupon or someone wealthy to pay for it all, but I'm so glad we had the chance to become acquainted to Orcas Island. Definitely check out Mount Constitution if you visit... it is totally worth the short drive or hike. read more

We were in a single room room, no view, no deck. Completely false advertising and when we asked to cancel they said no, with no accountability to their misrepresentation of advertising. Wow, what a terrible experience and all I did was try to make a reservation! I called to make some inquiries on the property and the lady that answer the call, Pam, provided the information in a very curt and dry way. I figured she might have been having a bad day so did not think much of it. I went to their website and reserved a room for 1 night. The reservation went through without a hitch and a deposit for the full amount was charged to my credit card. I figured this was a bit extreme, but I accepted it. The following morning at 7:20am I receive a call from Pam advising me in a very stern voice, that THEY DO NOT ACCEPT 1 NIGHT RESERVATIONS IN AUGUST! No apologies.. nothing! I mentioned to her that this is not referenced on her website and that if this is the case, why did the reservation go through and my card get charged? She just said we have to fix the website. Again no apology or anything. She then said very curtly so are you staying 2 nights or do I cancel? HOW RUDE! Even if I could stay 2 nights, I would have not stayed here. She was outright mean about it. If she is this mean when making a reservation, I would hate to see how I would be treated staying in her property. I guess if you don't interact with her it should be fine, but this experience was really really unprofessional and rude. read more

I made mistake of buying a Groupon, and even with the discounted price, I still was not happy with my stay. The normal rate was $149/night for the main lodge. This is over priced. When I showed up, I went into the little yellow building as instructed. There were bags sitting on a table with each person's name and a key inside the bag. My room was on the first floor. The window didn't lock. I tried contacting the inn keeper however neither of my cellphones had enough continuous service to place a call. I sent a text to the two phone numbers listed, and never received any response. I was only in my room a few minutes and was ready to check out since I could hear people at the other end the lodge talking and the people on the second floor footsteps. In addition, every time the toilet was flushed or water was turned on, I would hear it running down the pipes inside the wall. The walls were paper thin and I ended up wearing ear plugs the entire that I was in my room. The restaurant was closed and the one restaurant Deer Harbor recommended was also closed during my stay. Breakfast provided consisted of Costco croissant, granola cereal in paper bowl, green bananas, yogurt or prepackaged hard boil eggs. I was able to get the hot tub to have hot water but the lightening was so poor out there so i brought a flashlight with me. I didn't stay in one of the stand alone cabins, so I can't speak to these, but I definitely wouldn't stay in the lodge again unless I was deaf. read more

If you have the option to stay elsewhere, do. If for nothing else, on the basis that the management is rude and not personable in the least. Similar to a few of the other low ratings on this site, I had issues with the owners. When making my reservation at first, I needed to switch dates. I was still within the period allotted to switch and had even been told by an employee that switching reservations would be no problem. When I went to make the switch though, I was given a lot of trouble and the interaction was abrupt and rude. On the weekend of our stay, my husband and I actually did not end up staying - a storm backed the ferry schedule up a few hours and it got too late for us, as there are very little dining options of the island after 9pm. When I called the hotel to make sure there was nothing we needed to do since we missed the reservation, the owner answered and was extremely unkind and short. I have never had anyone in the service industry treat me that way. Next time my husband and I want to get away to the San Juans Islands or on Orcas, we will NOT be staying here. read more

I actually have never stayed here. Due to a Living Social weirdness, my reservation was cancelled. When I showed up at the front desk, the kindly gentleman couldn't find my reservation and they were all booked up. Rather than freaking out or being rude, he calmly invited us to have some wine in the dining room. He left for about five minutes and came back with apologies, having booked us a wonderful room at another hotel. He gave us the cork and the bottle. He was so incredibly nice that I will make it a point to stay at this hotel again, even though the one we did end up staying at was really nice too. The location is good and the cottages/lodge looked nice. The restaurant is very quaint and cozy. Absolutely top of the line service. read more

This is overall a very nice place. My boyfriend and I did a 2 week northwest road trip and mostly stayed at Westin hotels and I still give this place 4 stars. When you arrive to check in, you walk to the main office and pick up a white bag with your name on it. The key and a map are inside. You never meet the owners, which is a little weird. The rooms are cute and quaint but a little small. Still great for the price. The bed and pillows were comfortable and the place was really clean. Didnt really hear the other people staying in the lodge. They give you breakfast every morning in your room. If you are okay with eating yogurt, granola, banana, some raisin bread toast with butter, orange juice and coffee- this will work out great for you. Only negative thing about this place is that it is about 20 min drive from ferry terminal and 20 or more minute drive from any other town or restaurants. It was a relaxing not too expensive place to stay for island vacation and super close to deer harbor! read more

One of the cleanest places I've ever stayed, and that's the most important thing on my checklist. There are a few things lacking, however. We stayed in Room 1 in the Lodge. There were no towel racks to hang our towels on. Empty Kleenex boxes and toilet paper did not get replaced and a few things like that happened, but overall, it is a nice place. Don't get fooled by the promise of hot tubs. I wouldn't want to go into these. They look pretty icky. You should have a pleasant stay if you choose to stay here. I don't know if anyone else got suckered in by a groupon deal but it made it seem (until booking) that you had a private room and bath as in...actually a tub, and actual privacy. Not bad for a place to stay but if you wanted to make it a total get-away experience, this is NOT the place. We stayed at Deer Harbor Inn one night, I am glad we didn't make reservations for longer. The rooms are cute but very small with thin walls and very uncomfortable squeaky beds. This lodge is not worth what they are charging. In addition the house across the street had a dog that barked none stop day and night which was quite annoying when we were looking for a nice peaceful place to stay. read more

Wonderful stay in our own private cabin! Beautiful area, hot tub was hot when we arrived, the resturant was phenomenal! They only thing that I could complain about was the big bathtub in our room, the water was not super hot and it made a loud clanking sound when it was filling, and the TV remote didn't work. They let us check in early which we were so thankful for since we took an earlier ferry to get to the island. I would stay here again and again! Great price, great food, clean cabin, clean hot tub. cute cute cute! nice grounds, nice rooms and who doesn't love Orcas? Their restaurant is great too, simple menu; a little spendy. They have different types of accommodations and we did see some families there having a good time. Breakfast is some juice, sweet rolls and banana in a basket...that has been set up in the room before you arrive.... lame. Other than that we plan to be back! read more

I purchased my room through Groupon and it was well worth the deal. I will gladly paid full price to stay again. I stayed in room 7 (recommended by the owner) and it was very clean with lots of cabin-esque furniture. It came with complimentary breakfast goodies, a TV so we can watch the Seahawks game, a fridge and fireplace. read more
