These cabins and resort are perfect for quiet getaway from the cities hustle and bustle. Pure Heaven. Loved the people, the ease to walk out of cabin straight to beach, starry nights and the smell of the huge cedars. The sunsets are amazing, the birds are beauty singing every morning. I will be back every year. In fact sooner than a year if I can find vacancy. The staff was wonderful. We accidently left somethings and were contacted immediately to pick them up. Thank goodness we were still on the island. Thanks Beach Haven for the rest.

The resort has been steadily going down hill for years now. The road on the beach has eroded so badly that it seems it will just slip into the sea. Maintenance is just not happening and complaints are blatantly ignored. This once was a wonderful place to stay but sadly it is absolutely not worth the money anymore.

But I was profoundly disappointed as we drove up and saw the property. The grounds were not beautifully landscaped as I expected. It was dry and barren. The layout was spread out with no clear connection and no central point of activity. The loss of the "mansion" is a huge disappointment. That has always been the centerpiece of the resort and has always been front and center in the marketing materials and represented an elegant and luxurious experience. That iconic structure is no longer part of the resort. The check-in process was completely impersonal. When we did find the "office" it was in a squat brown nondescript building. There was no personal interaction. We were not welcomed or offered assistance. We picked up a poor-quality, black-and-white photocopy of a map of the resort so we could find our building. Next to the office was a large, run down industrial building that looked like a former fish processing plant. A blight on the property. The building that housed our room was dated. The hallway was shabby. The ice machine was making a death rattle. The decks and walkways needed power washing, and there was debris from the trees littering the walkways and stairs. Just a daily sweeping would do wonders. Our room was nice but way overpriced. That's really the issue here...I expected an exceptional experience for that rate. This is no longer a resort. We had just returned from three nights at Roche Harbor Resort on San Juan Island. A fantastic experience for far less expense.

We stated that in our reservation and were given a half hearted "happy anniversary" after being seated in the middle of the dining room, without any view. Several couples after us were seated with views to the water. It was our first time there and we didn't know to ask... In any case, we loved the food when we finally got it - but it took over an hour and a half after ordering to receive our meal. The waitress, Countnee (name on receipt), couldn't have been less interested in serving us. I guess she never got over the bell incident??? She seemed overly nice to others... even comping a bottle of wine for the couple next to us. We didn't even get the short spiel about how the strawberries in the sorbet were grown in their garden.... she told other people, we heard her- but she couldn't be bothered to take the time with us. We spent a lot of money on what could have been an amazing celebratory dinner for our anniversary had the service been even a little better. Get over yourself and have a little fun. The hostess was wearing jeans, this shouldn't have had such a pretentious, snooty vibe. We had friends recommend dinner here and we were disappointed, will never be back. It's the next morning and I'm still wishing we had gone somewhere else. It was our 20th anniversary after all!!!

They had a cot for each of our dogs to sleep in, treats, poop bags, and a coupon for the neighborhood pet shop. I think it says a lot about a place when they welcome dogs with such open arms. Outlook Inn is also situated near the downtown area and is walking distance from some nice shops and restaurants. This doesn't count towards this rating but Orcas island was beautiful. I highly recommend you visit and stay at Outlook Inn, especially if you have a dog.

We couldn't sleep 1st night because how it was and how uncomfortable bedding was. 2nd night, we decided to go back instead of staying here. Overall, not worth $800 for 2 nights. Some of the best seaside views or sunset on the island are from the beach nearby. However, the cottages are older and you have to put up with some minor issues here and there. That's understandable really but the service can be a bit variable. Their front desk is not always staffed so there is a number to call. And depending on who it is the service can be friendly or gruff. So service gets 3. We have stayed here in different cottages but Screech Owl is my favorite though it's the one that's not on the beachside. I just love the owl decor and the grand spaciousness of the cottage. The hot tub is the best in the Heron cottage as its in a secluded alcove and the sauna is nearby. Eagles Nest is a lovers den as it has one of the best ocean views and is a studio style with hot tub overlooking the ocean - very secluded and perfect for a honeymoon getaway. But for a family outing the Screech Owl has the biggest deck for entertaining and a very spacious - 'oh! I want to bake up a storm' kitchen. The caretakers are now living below it so some may not prefer it but I still like it. The pets are free here and no deposit/housekeeping is charged but they ask you leave it clean. We bring our lab who thinks Orcas is a second home as we come here so often! 4 stars.

The hot springs are my favorite part and the main reason I came back. My friends and I booked a private soak ($150 for 1.5 hours), which was well worth it. If you stay overnight, you can also do a group soak for $20. The hot springs are clothing optional, and during the group soak most people were nude. It was a bit crowded, but still fun and a memorable experience -- especially if you're open to something new. The room itself was a little cold, but thankfully it had a wood-fired stove (and one of us actually knew how to use it). Beds were comfy, and the bathrooms are a short walk away since they aren't in the rooms. Overall, such a special place -- I'd definitely come back again.

The only downside to the location is the fact that it is right across from an airstrip- so you get to see a lot of little planes landing and taking off while you are sitting on that back deck. Well, it wasn't really a downside for us since the friends we were with know a ton about small planes so we enjoyed the coming and going. And, you couldn't hear the noise from inside the condo. The condo itself was nice, adequate, nothing fancy. It was clean and comfortable and the kitchen was reasonably well-stocked with dishes and cooking utensils. Mike at the front desk and Bo from the adventure outfitters were helpful and ready to make sure we had a great time. Great for families!
