This review is for Jason. Booking is only done by email, so it was pretty frustrating not to hear back until 4 days later. He gave me a list of availabilities on days of the week that did not work for me. I asked if he had anything at all in the future on a Saturday. He told me that the next Saturday appointment wasn't until June. I told him that would be fine- I would find someone else to go to in the meantime, but I am interested in a June appointment on a Saturday. What is his response? "I can take you on 4/11/19 at 12pm." Uh, once again, that is not a Saturday! When I politely reminded him that I can only do Saturdays, he sent some condescending message, "As stated in my previous email..." no, Jason, YOU are the one that is not listening! I reminded him again that I needed an appointment on a Saturday and I would take June. This was March 5th I sent this. NEVER HEARD BACK. Just a waste of my time and frustration. Some of these back and forth messages took over 48 hours for him to respond. I am very disappointed, as I am/was a potential new client of David's. read more

I love, love, love Elon and De Facto Salon!! I bought a Groupon and came in with some pictures, not really sure of anything, but just knew I needed something different. I thought I wanted to go super blonde, but after talking to Elon, who persuaded me not to, I took a chance and trusted her. My hair was soooooo long so I did the traditional "not too much off, I want to keep it long." After four hours, five inches and a lot of trust, I love my hair. It's perfect. At first I want thrilled about how much shorter it is, but it is the perfect length! It's so bouncy and light, I get out of the shower, put a dab of smoother in and let it air dry. I now have perfect beachy waves I didn't before because it was so long and thick, weighing it down. If you are looking for a new stylist or just want to try something new, call Elon! Just wanted to pop on here to give my hairstylist David M. a shoutout. I came in today for my usual haircut but had an itch to get fun color dyed into my hair. I originally wanted a champagne hue on my hair but David showed me the new lilac color he got and I was sold on it! I absolutely love that he takes the time to consider my wants and shares his opinion after he listens first. He make suggestions on the vision he has for my hair and I know that my hair is his top priority during my appointments. I have a busy work schedule and he still finds time to accommodate me. It takes a couple of days to get something scheduled on the books sometimes because David splits his salón times with client appointments when he travels to NewYork and San Francisco. I have tried other stylists but always end up coming back to David. I always appreciate David's artistic touch every time he blends the typical honey blonde balayage I routinely opt for. The rest of the stylists and vibe at Defacto Salon is fun and hip, which also reflects the area it's located in. If you are looking to freshen up your look for summer or go bold like I wanted to, then David is who you want to see. I wish I could give a higher review because Elon was so nice to work with, but alas, I did not get the results that I asked for. It was kind of a confusing experience altogether. I showed Elon pictures of the desired color style I wanted and also told her that my main goal was to get rid of my split ends. She seemed to know exactly what I wanted and went straight to work with my hair. Elon was very meticulous with my highlights and I loved the look and feel of my hair after she toned down the brassiness of my previously color-treated hair. After reading the 5-star reviews on Yelp, I trusted her to be a professional in everything she did. With that said, I felt a little lost throughout the whole process because she didn't really tell me what was going on. She worked very quickly and I didn't even know she was already done with the haircut until she was halfway through styling my hair with a curling iron. I don't frequent salons very often, but don't the stylists usually ask you to take a look at the back, style, length, etc. before they start styling it??? I was a bit bewildered but also running low on time so I just gave her the benefit of the doubt and didn't question it. After washing my hair the first time, my hair indeed felt a LOT nicer and my boyfriend noted that my hair looked a lot healthier without the brassy color. However, all of the split ends were still there!! My hair was only about 1-1.5 inches shorter. While my hair looked a bit nicer from its previous state, it wasn't exactly how I wanted the highlights and I definitely expected more of a trim. Note: I would come back though! It was probably my fault for not being more vocal throughout the process. Definitely would have appreciated more explanations from her end. read more

Decided to take a risk. It is a cute little spot next to Tupelo, which is my favorite. I was a bit early but it was alright. Elon started right away. I was there for about an hour and a half. I even fell asleep while she was washing my hair, that is when you know you trust someone with your hair- when you can fall asleep. The color turned out great and I am excited to come back and have her work more with my hair. I have gotten SO many compliments on my hair. I even have a friend who said she is going to check our Defacto. I firmly believe that everyone needs to find a salon/stylist that fits their own style. Some people want a super high energy, chaotic salon environment and want a super peppy stylist who will talk their ear off for the duration of the appointment. However, I personally really love the low stress, chill environment at De Facto and I really love having a mellow stylist. For me, it makes the experience of sitting there for 45 minutes once every two months enjoyable. Elon is not super chatty. Rather she usually cuts while humming along to music. And she is quite honest and blunt. She will absolutely tell you if what you are using on your hair is not working. Which I appreciate and respect. It's kind of sucks when you spend an hour with someone who will tell you exactly what you want to hear. It's annoying and kills their credibility. Don't bother trying to call to set up an appointment. While she does check her voicemail, it is infrequent. I email her which will take her a day or two to respond. If you want a fairly immediate response text is your best bet. I also really like that I don't have the annoyance of trying to book through a receptionist who may not actually know her schedule. However, what really hooked me is her skill. She is a highly skilled and meticulous stylist. She will find out what you want and your hair "goals" before doing any cutting. She prioritizes finding out what you want. Every time I leave her care my hair looks awesome! She is not the type that is going to bust out a razor and hack up your head which might look good for the same day of the cut, and then like crap for two months. She is masterful at cutting hair. I would strongly recommend Elon and De Facto salon. That is if your preference is a low stress, chill environment, and a badass haircut. read more

There is a distinct line between the colored and not colored, so it looks like my hair is growing out which sucks. My co-workers said it looks like I need to get my hair done but I just spent $250. Clare is a doll! She first sat down with me to discuss what I wanted (which I clearly didn't know) and gave me suggestions as to what would look good with my complexion. My goal was deep color with red undertones and she got it perfect! She also suggested a cut, but was not pushy about it. She added layers to my boring hair and gave it life again! I loved chatting with her. She is so funny and goofy and sweet. She did an amazing job on my hair! I'm so excited to go back! The only slightly negative thing I can say is that the pricing isn't clear. I paid a different amount than what is listed online for a women's cut and all over color. Should have been $150, but I laid $180 (not including tip). Only $30 more, but it would be nice to know why. I think I may have been charged more because of my massive amount of hair, but I'm not entirely sure because it wasn't noted on the website. Elon's work is fantastic. She is a cut and color expert. While I did not get color done with her, I have seen other clients of hers and it's impressive. She has actually expressed being a fan of doing the ombre color process. (I'm not. That thing looks like you forgot to color your roots.). She did cut and style my hair and I was blown away by how good it looked, felt, and lasted. Negatives: 1- she is bad on communication (takes multiple attempts to get a call, text or email back as she has no staff) and 2- (my opinion) she is overpriced. I think a 15 percent price reduction would be more appropriate and that's primarily due to her being so short staffed that it does not feel entirely professional. If you can get past that, she's certainly a talented stylist. read more
