If you looked through my reviews I have quite a few for breweries! Less so I have a handful of reviews that I have done close to a places closure. This review can be classified as both. Definitive in Portland is an absolute favorite of my wife and I! We had our first unofficial date there, made many trips to try new beers as well as had our engagement photos taken there as well! Definitive did recently announce their closure of this location recently and my wife and I were free this weekend for their last weekend open. We made time to get down here to visit the spot as we had never checked out this location. If I was rating solely off of beers I would give five stars for the quality and taste. They have some delicious sours and make a good variety of styles. Only knock on their beers would be they have not made as many new beers over the past couple years. The downgrade from five stars into four stars comes down to the location itself. While I am understanding that due to space constraints it is more limited for space here it is overall a more disappointing space when you compare it to Portland. They do still have a patio available but the size is so small compared to Portland. The overall inside vibes are just not as nice either. This was a great spot to get all of those visiting the tourist heavy area of Kittery but I would take the Portland location everyday! Overall though it is a shame to see a brewery location closing in our great state of Maine especially a location of a brewery that is a favorite of my wife and I! read more

A great little brewery in the heart of a shopping area for those that want to take a break from the outlets. Had a nice variety of beers and even offered a flight to sample. Staff were knowledgeable about the selections and even offered some additional samples. I would have loved a shirt from the place but the prices were very high. Stop in when you're in the area. I stopped in on a recent visit to the area. I came in with a friend, her husband, and a baby in a stroller on a Saturday afternoon at about 2:30 pm. When we entered it seemed like all eyes were on us and we felt completely out of place. There was a couple at a high top and a few people at the bar, but it was super quiet inside. They had some game on the TV, but no volume and no music. We quickly exited and went to the brewery next door. It was not a welcoming environment and we thought we would feel out of place just by talking and laughing over a drink. Maybe this isn't the vibe all of the time, but this experience wouldn't make me want to return or recommend to anyone. read more

Great brewery in Kittery ME, right on the outlet strip. Walking in it's a smaller place but the beer makes up for it. You order at a small counter, they didn't have any deals on flights.. it's pay per glass but they do offer 5oz for $3 and $4. I tried their seller echos a double ipa, delicious. The sweet life ipa, very tasty. Definitive ale and very smooth ipa. My favorite is their insufficient funds triple ipa... oh baby this was magic in a glass! Since I wasn't driving I had to get a large glass of this. We sat outside, nice little area with a few different spots to sit. I liked the bar tales they use as tables. Even though this is a smaller brewery stop by for the beer, it's worth it! read more

A great little place to stop for drinks, conveniently located along the outlets strip in Kittery. Inside of the former Starbucks (moved to the next building), Definitive Brewing Company (DBC) offers around 10 draught beers including a pale ale, sour ales, IPAs, double IPAs and triple IPA, in 3 sizes (5 oz, 10 oz, 16 oz, $3-$7). They also offer to go 4-packs (16 oz cans), snacks (Fox Family Potato Chips, Pub Mix, Cheez-Its) and non-alcoholic drinks, and DBC apparel. This beer tasting location is taking precautions regarding the COVID-19 pandemic including mask wearing inside the space, credit card only transactions, and requiring patron information for contact tracing purposes. The seating area is outdoors with several picnic tables and chair seating next to barrels. When finished, you bus your own drink glasses and you can reenter the brewery with mask on to order more beer and to use the restrooms (customers only). After visiting the outlets, I stopped at DBC for a quick drink and to use their Wifi. I ordered their Walrus Music, which was a sour ale and had a very nice fruity flavor (mango, passionfruit, pineapple). I sat outside on a warm afternoon enjoying drink and checking my messages on my phone. The service ordering my drink was very prompt with a credit card only transaction. read more

Probably the absolute best Sour beers you've ever had! Each one with its own unique flavor combination. My husband loves the IPA's and enjoyed the Robin, which was a 12%abv stout! All of their drinks have high abv, which I especially appreciate as I get tired of those 4% sours. Why do people do that? Not definitive! Delicious and high alcohol. The inside is super cute at the location in kittery. They also have knowledgeable and kind bartenders. I enjoy their music selections also. Their hours are great and they release new beers all the time! Make Sure to check them out ! read more

So glad we stopped here! Tons of variety and really original brews! Seems like they have lots of sours and they do them very well. My boyfriend loved their IPAs too and got some to go! Tables outside and some seating inside. Beer tender was super cool and helpful. They even do beer soft serve, it happens to be a stout the day we were there so I passed but really cool they offer this. The beer tender said most often it's a sour, so next time! There's another location in Portland but we stopped here because we were nearby! Happy we did! read more

Definitive is a great brewery located in Kittery- amongst all the outlet shops. When you're sick of shopping (or waiting for your significant other haha) stop in for a beer! Their servers and staff are all very friendly and happy to answer any questions. Also very COVID friendly. I love their Portals sour! Highly recommend this brewery if you're in the area. read more

Stopped here on a recent trip to the area and was pretty pleased! I admit I was a bit confused by not offering flights but allowing 4 "small pours" per person. Seems like you're essentially then able to get a flight, just in a less desirable format as you need to carry four individual glasses. They seem to have primarily IPAs and sours here. I was able to find four that were not either, and they were reasonably good. Sad that the one stout that was on tap when I arrived was fresh out. Service was just OK - but the outdoor seating area was pretty nice. Would give it another try when I come back. read more

We stumbled upon this brewery (along with our dog) on a very windy and cold day. We were planning on sitting at the outdoor picnic tables (due to the dog + Covid), but quickly realized it was far too cold, so we were about to leave before ordering. Seeing us ponder this issue, the bartender came outside and told us that they were dog-friendly inside, which was a wonderful surprise! I would give 5 stars (the beer is really incredible), except it is a VERY small space and the amount of people they allowed inside in January wasn't very comfortable due to Covid. There was some space between seating areas, but it is still VERY intimate. We would have felt a little more comfortable if they limited the guests more. We'll 100% be happy to return to this tiny brewery in the spring once it's warmer and Covid is less active!! read more

Checked out this brewery this week and felt like it was... meh. They have a good selection of different types so you should be able to find something you may like to try- but in our opinion not something you'll rave about and need to be back for. We will definitely give it another go in the future to see if a rotation in beers helps the cause. Great spot in the outlets. Perfect option if your sick of shopping and crowds. read more

Been to the other location, but this one was just as enjoyable. In fact, this was the only brewery I went to twice during a weeklong trip of exploring breweries - stopped both on my way into Maine, and my way out of Maine. On the way out, took the expert step of ordering a couple of cooked lobsters from a nearby seafood shack ... and eating at the brewery (outside in an effort to be inconspicuous) with my wife. Oh, and the beer is excellent. Highly recommended as a first or last stop if going to Maine, or if you live in the area. read more

Definitive is changing the beer game. From IPAs to sours to double fruited sours that drink more like a smoothie than a beer, Definitive has something for everyone. The Kittery location has a tasting room with draught pours and select 4-packs available. They typically do a pre-order of releases starting Wednesday. It's "definitively" worth a visit. read more
