    three different types of beer

If you ask folks where to go for beer along coastal Maine, Tributary is mentioned on the short list. The owner is a veteran brewer with 20+ years of experience, and it shows. My husband and I enjoyed every beer we tried from our flight. My recommendation: the Pale Ale.

The selection at Tributary is not huge, but there are a few really good beers that we love that keeps us coming back. There is plenty of parking, and dogs are usually allowed on premise (as if we needed another reason to visit!). Inside is a simple setup, but enough to serve its purpose (gives you a comfortable place to sit while enjoying a drink with a friend). Recommend stopping by if you're in the area!

    Delightful pale ale

With only 4 beers on tap, you'd think I'd be less generous than 5 stars. Normally you would be right and my first thought was solid 4 stars. But Tributary was awesome and I'm feeling generous because of their great attitude and the promise of great things to come. Such a great space in the corner of a small mall, it was very polished and welcoming inside. Friendly staff, welcoming smiles, glad you're here kind of people. Everything is shiny and spotless. Love that. And bonus for being dog friendly! 4 ounce tastings are $1.50 each so you could have them all for about $6. Plus they will let you just have a small taste before you decide what you want to drink. Nice. Unlike many other craft brewers Tributary's offerings didn't have catchy names. They had a Pale Ale, Brown Porter, Wheat IPA, and a collaborative brew with Earth Eagle called a Sweet Fern Gose. If you've never tried a Gose you owe it to yourself to try this ancient German style of sour/salt almost medicinal wheat brew. This one was brewed with natural ferns that was quite something! We both loved their pale ale a lot. I'm sure there are great things ahead for Tributary. Highly recommend you stop in and try it!

This place always has a good vibe going on. Fantastic Brewer. Great beer. Excellent service. Mott The Lesser is onTAP and you must try the Hop Harvest, it's quite choice.

They had 6 beers on tap when we stoped in. The IPA was my favorite. Awesome place, nice inside seating with a small outside area. They had live music too.

Definitive in Portland is an absolute favorite of my wife and I! We had our first unofficial date there, made many trips to try new beers as well as had our engagement photos taken there as well! Definitive did recently announce their closure of this location recently and my wife and I were free this weekend for their last weekend open. We made time to get down here to visit the spot as we had never checked out this location. If I was rating solely off of beers I would give five stars for the quality and taste. They have some delicious sours and make a good variety of styles. Only knock on their beers would be they have not made as many new beers over the past couple years. The downgrade from five stars into four stars comes down to the location itself. While I am understanding that due to space constraints it is more limited for space here it is overall a more disappointing space when you compare it to Portland. They do still have a patio available but the size is so small compared to Portland. The overall inside vibes are just not as nice either. This was a great spot to get all of those visiting the tourist heavy area of Kittery but I would take the Portland location everyday! Overall though it is a shame to see a brewery location closing in our great state of Maine especially a location of a brewery that is a favorite of my wife and I!

Wanted to visit this location as sadly it closes Monday. We tried several IPA's and sour beers…read more Parking was quite easy for us as traffic was really busy on the roads coming into brewery.

It wasn't my preferred type of beer, but I found it tasty and refreshing. The next morning at breakfast at a restaurant in town, there were small signs on the table for their beers. So that afternoon, I went to Liar's Bench for lunch. I appreciate the messages the universe had sent me. Apart from a challenge getting parking at lunchtime, with several spots in the lot reserved for nearby Murray's Plumbing, there's much to like about Liar's Bench (and that's no lie). The beer selection is varied enough that I was able to get a very satisfying flight. My local friend had suggested I order whatever was the chef's special of the day (which today was a specialty burger), but we instead opted for the BBQ platter for 2, with a large amount of pulled pork, slaw, potato salad, and Texas toast. We sat at the bar and had great service and conversation. I can see why this is a popular lunch destination. Another bonus for me is that Liar's Bench is the closest brewery to a hotel at which I often stay when I'm in Portsmouth, making this a new destination for me when I'm in the area.
