If you looked through my reviews I have quite a few for breweries! Less so I have a handful of…read morereviews that I have done close to a places closure. This review can be classified as both. Definitive in Portland is an absolute favorite of my wife and I! We had our first unofficial date there, made many trips to try new beers as well as had our engagement photos taken there as well! Definitive did recently announce their closure of this location recently and my wife and I were free this weekend for their last weekend open. We made time to get down here to visit the spot as we had never checked out this location. If I was rating solely off of beers I would give five stars for the quality and taste. They have some delicious sours and make a good variety of styles. Only knock on their beers would be they have not made as many new beers over the past couple years. The downgrade from five stars into four stars comes down to the location itself. While I am understanding that due to space constraints it is more limited for space here it is overall a more disappointing space when you compare it to Portland. They do still have a patio available but the size is so small compared to Portland. The overall inside vibes are just not as nice either. This was a great spot to get all of those visiting the tourist heavy area of Kittery but I would take the Portland location everyday! Overall though it is a shame to see a brewery location closing in our great state of Maine especially a location of a brewery that is a favorite of my wife and I!

It had recently opened and the owner was talking to us about the beer and was incredibly knowledgeable. We were the only ones in the venue, but nonetheless, the owner was nice and talked to us throughout our experience. Fast forward, and we recently decided to bring a friend to the brewery on a Saturday night. For starters, the venue was completely dead. There were no other patrons (I don't know how they stay in business with the consistent lack of customers) and the bartender was...odd. We went to the bar and barely got a "hello." My friend and I ordered the pale ale offering that they had and my partner got an IPA. The bartender asked if we wanted to start a tab, so we said "sure." We stood there as the bartender turned his back...assuming he would take our cards. We awkwardly walked to a table as we sipped our beers...which we were not a fan of. The pale ale had a weird flavor to it, and the IPA had an odd taste as well. We fought through the taste, as we sat in silence with no patrons and just the bartender. We ended up paying our bill and quickly leaving. It's unfortunate, because Dover has the opportunity to house cool brewery spots, but this one misses the mark between the awkward service and the odd tasting beer. The general consensus was that we would not come back.

We've been to several of Dover's brew tasting rooms. This one really made us feel at home. Met the…read morefounder manning the bar. Love the Vice. Apparently, trivia is Wednesdays each week, We joined in and came in third. Good times!

The night before, at dinner at a nearby…read morerestaurant with local friends, one of them was drinking a Liar's Bench beer which he let me sample. It wasn't my preferred type of beer, but I found it tasty and refreshing. The next morning at breakfast at a restaurant in town, there were small signs on the table for their beers. So that afternoon, I went to Liar's Bench for lunch. I appreciate the messages the universe had sent me. Apart from a challenge getting parking at lunchtime, with several spots in the lot reserved for nearby Murray's Plumbing, there's much to like about Liar's Bench (and that's no lie). The beer selection is varied enough that I was able to get a very satisfying flight. My local friend had suggested I order whatever was the chef's special of the day (which today was a specialty burger), but we instead opted for the BBQ platter for 2, with a large amount of pulled pork, slaw, potato salad, and Texas toast. We sat at the bar and had great service and conversation. I can see why this is a popular lunch destination. Another bonus for me is that Liar's Bench is the closest brewery to a hotel at which I often stay when I'm in Portsmouth, making this a new destination for me when I'm in the area.

Well worth it!] * Young Upstart: 6.6% ABV - a bIt muted for an IPA * Bernuda Tattoo: 6.9% ABV - slight more hoppy than the Y.U * To Vera: 7.5% ABV - fruitier notes as a Hazy WCIPA * Nielsen Schmielsen: 7.7% ABV - as a double, this is quaint As for food, they have a small selection of snacks, sandwiches and "tube meats" and some shareable. the music is good, not mainstream stuff. and the v8be is very neighborhood spot. Come foe the drinks, maybe a snack, but come during the warmer months, as I'm sure the patio opens up and it's a much better scene. Wait staff could be a bit more engaging. Overall, I'd come back to try the food, it's unique to see "tubed meats" on the menu. I'm getting a lot of German influences when. it comes to the menu.
