Entering the venue, soft Celtic music plays in the background, lending a beautiful atmosphere accented by old farm tables, dark green wainscoting and mug club mugs lining the mouldings. The beer selections are superb. I had their IPA, aromatic and very tasty. Then the Stout, a strong tasting and aromatic dark brew. Food wise, we had the pulled pork sandwich and the Korean Style Brisket. Both were equally superb. Service was simply superb. Overall, one of the nicest brewers we've been to in some time. Met up with locals friends here for some post food brew. The beer was decent, not great. The sour-meh There was a concert upstairs & the place was packed. The barkeep gave me a solid book recommendation. I love the general space/ family style seating. I didn't see the bill but prices seemed average for the area. By the time we wrapped up our single pour, it was dead quiet, with only 1 other occupied table. [ETA: EXCELLENT follow up from the business. I absolutely would go back and give em another go. Also, I think I saw a farmers market type area on exit but nobody in my group would let me go nose around. Bah, I need better friends.]

If you looked through my reviews I have quite a few for breweries! Less so I have a handful of…read morereviews that I have done close to a places closure. This review can be classified as both. Definitive in Portland is an absolute favorite of my wife and I! We had our first unofficial date there, made many trips to try new beers as well as had our engagement photos taken there as well! Definitive did recently announce their closure of this location recently and my wife and I were free this weekend for their last weekend open. We made time to get down here to visit the spot as we had never checked out this location. If I was rating solely off of beers I would give five stars for the quality and taste. They have some delicious sours and make a good variety of styles. Only knock on their beers would be they have not made as many new beers over the past couple years. The downgrade from five stars into four stars comes down to the location itself. While I am understanding that due to space constraints it is more limited for space here it is overall a more disappointing space when you compare it to Portland. They do still have a patio available but the size is so small compared to Portland. The overall inside vibes are just not as nice either. This was a great spot to get all of those visiting the tourist heavy area of Kittery but I would take the Portland location everyday! Overall though it is a shame to see a brewery location closing in our great state of Maine especially a location of a brewery that is a favorite of my wife and I!

To my satisfaction, they had a pretty tasty stout and even let me buy a half glass rather than full. The great musician offered up some fun live music - which Sanford needs more of, so I'm grateful for that, but then he allowed my brother to go up and sing some songs. Maybe that will become a more regular happening! Their closing time is listed as 8pm but I think because people were there having a good time, they stayed open a little bit later.

Of course the ice cream place was packed so we opted for this. Unbeknownst to me, there was an upcharge since this place isn't really related to the ice cream shop. It was all a bit confusing. It was really hot inside so we opted to sit outside on some barrels. I ordered some chicken strips and a hot dog, with fries. We also ordered some mozarella sticks. I had ordered the hot dog since I wasn't sure how many chicken strips I would get, turns out three chicken strips would have sufficed. The hot dog was the kind with thick skin that I had to ungraciously strip off before I could even take a bite!! Once the skin was gone the hot dog was good. The chicken strips were OK, somehow a bit too processed for my preference. Fries unremarkable. The ambiance was nice, we had a fun time laughing on the side of the restaurant. I might come here again if the weather was better, it was SO HOT inside that it would not have been habitable for me. I might try something different next time.

It had recently opened and the owner was talking to us about the beer and was incredibly knowledgeable. We were the only ones in the venue, but nonetheless, the owner was nice and talked to us throughout our experience. Fast forward, and we recently decided to bring a friend to the brewery on a Saturday night. For starters, the venue was completely dead. There were no other patrons (I don't know how they stay in business with the consistent lack of customers) and the bartender was...odd. We went to the bar and barely got a "hello." My friend and I ordered the pale ale offering that they had and my partner got an IPA. The bartender asked if we wanted to start a tab, so we said "sure." We stood there as the bartender turned his back...assuming he would take our cards. We awkwardly walked to a table as we sipped our beers...which we were not a fan of. The pale ale had a weird flavor to it, and the IPA had an odd taste as well. We fought through the taste, as we sat in silence with no patrons and just the bartender. We ended up paying our bill and quickly leaving. It's unfortunate, because Dover has the opportunity to house cool brewery spots, but this one misses the mark between the awkward service and the odd tasting beer. The general consensus was that we would not come back.

It wasn't my preferred type of beer, but I found it tasty and refreshing. The next morning at breakfast at a restaurant in town, there were small signs on the table for their beers. So that afternoon, I went to Liar's Bench for lunch. I appreciate the messages the universe had sent me. Apart from a challenge getting parking at lunchtime, with several spots in the lot reserved for nearby Murray's Plumbing, there's much to like about Liar's Bench (and that's no lie). The beer selection is varied enough that I was able to get a very satisfying flight. My local friend had suggested I order whatever was the chef's special of the day (which today was a specialty burger), but we instead opted for the BBQ platter for 2, with a large amount of pulled pork, slaw, potato salad, and Texas toast. We sat at the bar and had great service and conversation. I can see why this is a popular lunch destination. Another bonus for me is that Liar's Bench is the closest brewery to a hotel at which I often stay when I'm in Portsmouth, making this a new destination for me when I'm in the area.
