A perfect place to pick up sandwiches in Mariposa on the way to Yosemite! It's one block off from the main street - check on google maps because it's easy to miss. It's run by a kind gentleman who took our orders. Sandwiches are simple, made with fresh veggies and ingredients. The turkey sandwich used thick sliced turkey which tasted amazing. In the unassuming town of Mariposa, CA sits a sandwich shop (trailer) called Shortstop Sandwiches. It's proximity to Yosemite might makes it a great place to grab a sandwich on the way in to the park. In all honesty, the drive to Yosemite Valley from Mariposa is at least 45 minutes so the sandwiches were finished well before arriving in this beautiful national park. Back to the sandwich shop. Stopped to grab sandwiches for lunch in Yosemite. First thing to mention is it's cash only. There's a grocery store across the street and they do offer cash back. Sandwiches are FRESH. Oh my goshhhh. My mouth is watering just thinking about this place. I got a chicken pesto sandwich. Words cannot describe how tasty it was!! The chicken was sooo tender and moist. And the flavoring was absolutely delicious!! Get the chicken pesto sandwich. Another thing I really liked was how kind the man working at the window was. He was SO kind!! Having lived in a few states (5 from east to west) I'm always on a quest for places like this. Great atmosphere, delicious sandwiches, awesome/down to earth owners, and extensive yet not confusing menus. I ordered the chicken pesto which was a hot sandwich. The chicken was moist, the pesto was so fresh as were the vegetables. The owners have grown some of the produce used in their sandwiches. The French roll they placed these ingredients in was also very tasty. Great and fresh tasting,... and reasonably priced for the quality of sandwich. It may take 2 minutes longer than assembly line Subway (although I've waited longer in line at Subway) but quality is well worth the wait. Enjoy! read more

Stopped here for lunch on our way up to Yosemite. Very reasonable priced sandos and nice shaded patio to sit at while enjoying your sandwich. I got a turkey sandwich with avocado + soda and my boyfriend got a turkey bacon sandwich + soda and it was less than $15 :) cash or check only so make sure you have that! read more

How stinkin' adorable is this place? So glad my local friend brought me here for lunch. The menu is pretty vast; and how can you beat the list of wraps and sandwiches that are only! $3.00? Everything was fresh and delicious! And apparently the sweet irony of the place is part of it's charm. Despite the name, they do take a bit of a time to make even the simple orders. This was such a pleasant surprise. I took my young son to lunch and I wasn't sure what I was going to get him for lunch. We chose a cheese and beans wrap. It came with black beans and although he has never had those. He loved the wrap. My choice was a California wrap and I added chicken. This wrap was very very filling. Their shakes are made with ice cream and milk and as delicious as you can imagine. Their fruit smoothies are frozen fruit and milk. Delicious! The man(assuming the owner) at the window was very friendly and helpful and gave recommendations. I will definitely return with my family and I highly recommend this little stop without hesitation. This Amanda is probably the rudest cashier I've come across and we have Walmarts in our town. Lol IYKYK She is the reason this store should have self checkout. The restaurant has an old school vibe where hearty cuts of meat and stiff drinks are plentiful. I had a porterhouse steak which was made perfectly seasoned and as requested, medium rare. My Old Fashioned was made perfectly. The service was attentive yet not hovering. This is a definite favorite for my next trip up to Yosemite.

One thing that puzzled us a tiny bit was the "specials" appeared to be identical to menu options, but no harm, no foul. The service was very friendly, knowledgable and very well executed. It was accurate and reasonably quick. The food was outstanding. We started with very nice small dinner salads, and the garlic bread brought to the table was well done. We had Chicken Alfredo with Feta, and the Rib Eye Steak. Both were sensational (the chicken benefitted from a squeeze of lemon). The portions were large, and the preparation was perfect. The steak was exactly as ordered, and was the best steak we've had in some time. The chicken was cooked well and the pasta was perfect. The vegetables were great, seasoned and steamed, retaining a bit of crunch. Desert was an event! We had the cheesecake, which was very good, and the chocolate mocha ice cream pie. Oh, my goodness! That pie! It was at least 5" high, and covered a desert plate edge to edge, and it was a coffee and chocolate fantasy with a toffee crust! Out of this world! Simply epic. The only photo we managed was the salad. Everything else we were too busy digging in to! If you're in (or passing through) Mariposa, by all means, go! We certainly will be back.

I am very big into bbq and if i see a spot, my tastebuds and appetite get curious. IMO, there is not a lot great bbq, living in the south for some years, i have had my fair share. This place is a great mention for bbq. From flavor to tenderness. I had the ribs, tri-tip and brisket. The tri-tip and brisket was tender and had good pepper flavor but not over powering. The ribs, amazing flavor with just a bit of a snap. Sides: coleslaw and beans. The beans were delicious. The coleslaw, well it's different but good. To each their own and this place was fantastic to me. This would be my go to for bbq if i lived in the area.

for the yosemite area and surrounding, this place was appealing. unfortunately our experience was a…read morelittle bit different than what we had in mind. smokin' oak is about an hour away from the north entrance gate to yosemite national park. a beautiful drive and a quaint little town. parking wasn't too much of an issue but maybe we went during a dinner rush? we ordered the 3 meat platter, mac and cheese, house pickles and their jojo potatoes-- by 6 pm we had ordered and they were sold out of the pulled pork completely, so instead we opted for the chicken, tri-tip and brisket. the seating both inside and out are very limited. the bathrooms aren't the cleanest but hey you go for the food. the service was okay as well. during our wait for an open table, we grabbed their 3 signature sauces. a standard barbecue, a yellow mustard base, and a "cali white". honestly the standard barbecue sauce was pretty good and so was the mustard base. we were told the cali white goes well with the chicken and it does for the most part as it's a mayo/ranch profile. BE AWARE: you will likely wait for over an hour to get your food. the people behind us probably waited longer. they hadn't taken anything off the smoker so we marked off them cutting it fresh. not sure what happened. 2.5/5 the mac and cheese was fairly bland and the macaroni itself was a bit too soft, but the creamy cheese was great and is my personal favorite type of mac and cheese. 2/5 the house pickles were just okay. semi-soft from the pickling process rather than crunchy like a grillo's pickle. i think next time the pickled onions would be a better choice. 3/5 the tri-tip was seasoned decently, but it was not tender and quite dry. it didn't have that rich smoky flavor either and feels like they warmed it without juicing the meat. 3/5 the brisket itself was good. probably the best thing we ordered. the fat was melty and soaked nicely into the bread when eaten. 2/5 i personally was not a fan of the chicken as it was smoked, but slightly dry and didn't have much flavor. it was cooked nicely though and will be tiered 3rd in line. with the cali white sauce, it was decent just not my favorite. 4.5/5 i actually really liked the jojo potatoes! you can taste the tallow it was cooked in and it was nice and crispy, with green onions and a sour cream sauce. i liked it a lot! the potato was salty and cooked through-- would absolutely order again. finishing notes: for the area, this is a nice spot to be to watch the sunset with family. just make sure you're willing to wait the hour. not to mention, the portion sizes are extremely small and this plate alone fed 2 people who are usually only peckish and can't finish a whole lot. i would order the brisket and jojo potatoes again without hesitation. it is a solid spot, though other places shine brighter. i will say, i can't wait to come back to give them another shot. thanks for the dinner guys!

The ordering process is straightforward - you place your order at the front inside and then pick it up with a buzzer outside, which works perfectly for enjoying the outdoor setting. 5/5 Tomato Soup with Half Grilled Cheese was so hearty and exactly what you need after a long drive or before heading into the mountains. The soup was the best I have had in a while, with rich tomato flavor that was perfectly seasoned and had just the right consistency. The grilled cheese was nothing too special on its own, but it paired so well with the soup, especially to warm you up in the cold. The combination is classic comfort food executed beautifully, and you really can't go wrong with this order. The Grove House is absolutely worth planning your Yosemite trip around! It's the perfect stop to fuel up before heading into the park or to unwind after a day of hiking. The combination of good food, welcoming atmosphere, and that small-town charm makes it a must-visit when you're in Mariposa. I would definitely recommend trying this place out - it seems like one of the best restaurants in the area on the way to Yosemite. I'm already looking forward to my next visit and hoping to catch one of their live music nights!

Don Rueben's was the perfect stop! Cute little place! Great service and super fast! I enjoyed the grilled fish tacos spicy style! The chicken burrito was full of juicy shredded chicken. The carnitas plate was delish! Great rice and beans! I would def make this a stop on the way up or down next time!

I ordered the chimichanga but expected it to be topped with vegetables. Nonetheless, it was very large and worth the price.

It´s a great place i went there a few times before heading off to climb in yosemite. I can say im a huge fan of the food they serve and the attention is just aces. I cant decide which is better the turkey cranberry sandwich or the california spicy black bean wrap. The prices are really good, i live in San Francisco and when you hear of a place that charges less than 10 dollars for a sandwich it just makes you want to go there. I definetly recommend it to all people who like to get a bit of fresh air and want to eat somewhere in which the food is both good and the price is reasonable. read more

Excellent place!!!! Every time i go up to maripsoa I always stop by and get one of the many amazing sandwiches. The owners are friendly, The quality is amazing, I cant get enough of this place. I have probably tried everything on the menu and I cant find even one that I do not like. They even have some healthier options if you want them, like whole grain mustard(amazing) Just ask. Excellent place that not many people know about I would recommend this place to anyone read more

On our way to Yosemite we found a this off Main Street Sandwich Shop. I am vegetarian and I found many different kinds of sandwiches and wraps. I ordered the Spicy California Wrap.It was delicious !!! My friends had the Chicken Pesto and Turkey Mix. They also were very satisfied . We enjoyed the beautiful garden and the humming birds as well..This place is right across the street from the public rest area. read more

Never open, the owner lives in the house next to his trailer that he makes sandwiches in. I wouldn't eat there if he tried to pay me! Don't trust the person. This guy is the real Slim Shady beware! read more

Degnan's Kitchen is located at Yosemite Village. They have restrooms and water to fill your water bottles. There's indoor seating and picnic tables outside. You can also buy groceries or souvenirs at the Village Store next door to Degnan's Kitchen. You can catch the Yosemite Valley free shuttle service to take you to many of the scenic locations if you don't feel like doing the long hike to each location. From Yosemite Village, we walked to point #1 on the map: Lower Yosemite Fall and the Cook's Meadow Loop, the waterfalls you see in my pictures. This location is kid and stroller friendly. My observations alerted me to a communal yet cozy setting, with shared table and comfortable benches. This establishment feels magical to me. The floor is clean and the wooden tables and benches are inviting. I noticed that they have regular customers, as one after another, the customers were greeted by name with hugs and big smiles. Savanna (sic) greeted me and took my orders: small latte & ricotta + egg toast. My Ricotta + egg toast was delicious and the presentation was nicely done. The ingredients looked simple and the herbs tasted fresh and clean. The dish was perfectly seasoned. I tasted a little 'heat' at the back of my throat, but that's something I can handle. I even enjoyed the green sauce over the top. LOL! My order of latte was smooth and creamy. No sugar needed here. The creamy milk did its job. Savanna made my coffee after taking the order, and I complimented her on the delicious coffee. Would I go back? You betcha! And I'll bring my friends. Note: There's seating outdoors as well for those who bring their four-legged family members
