This is my husband's favorite place to have breakfast. I like getting the BLT with half french fries and half onion rings. It's definitely a destination spot because the decor is fascinating. They even have a bear skin on the wall. The service is so friendly every time we're in there. The food is delicious. This place really doesn't look like much and is kind of hidden, but what a hidden gem it is! The decor gives off a country homey vibe, and the food just matches the vibe! The staff is always friendly and greets you with a smile. It is a small place and is almost always crowded when we arrive, but we've never waited too long. This place won't be for everyone as they are pro gun and very pro America, but we love it. I'll post some of their signs as it says it all. This is a wonderful fun place. We were there Sunday morning and all the locals were in. As we were leaving a couple were setting up their parcheesi game. The staff is top notch. They enjoy having fun with the customers, but if you don't want that, they leave you alone. My husband had the corn beef and you have a choice of home made or out of a can. He likes our home made, but usually goes for out of the can at restaurants. Everything was as ordered. I had the traditional eggs Benedict. Didn't want the potatoes so she gave me a lovely bowl of fresh fruit and beautiful sliced tomatoes. Everything was wonderful. For some reason we thought the entrance was at the back. Oops. This place was an unexpected, well deserved place to go to to eat breakfast. Biscuits and gravy were so genuine and fluffy. The country style patsies has a flavor of being cooked with corizo well being firm still and presentable. And the one sunny side egg up was on point and not over cooked or under easy. For a restaurant being in the Mariposa county, you really can't ask for more, after eating here at this place that's been here for decades. Being known for "Pops Cafe" and than being switched to a whole nother name. It still holds its merit when it comes down to its culinary value. On point and would recommend this place a go to if your in Mariposa county. Stop messing with eating downtown, when you can drive an extra 10 minutes away. This is a local spot for me, one of those places everyone knows you by name... however, don't be afraid to stop in if your not a local, they treat everyone like friends. My favorite is the Chicken Fried Steak Breakfast w/country potatoes and sourdough toast. Youngest kid LOVES their Pastrami Burgers w/battered fries. Hubs loves the Oakie Benedict and the clam chowder on Fridays. Oldest likes the Chicken Fried Steak Dinner. And the girl...French toast. Let's talk about those burgers; these are generous sized hand formed patties. These are not mass produced frozen thin burgers. Cooked to order, we all prefer Med Rare on these big and juicy bad boys. No matter your choice of burger it come generously topped; pick a Blue Cheese and you'll get mounds of yummy blue cheese, mushrooms your thing, expect your mushroom burger to be piled high with mushrooms. If Steve is around ask him for his special buffalo sauce on the blue cheese burger topped with bacon; YUM! We stopped in to support a Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser not too long ago. Having my own sauce since high school I was leary on getting spaghetti but glad I tried it! Packed full of meat and Steve's house made sauce, it's so good. Served with two slices of garlic bread and your choice of salad or soup, you'll need to be rolled outta the joint. Highly recommend the house white gravy on anything and everything, top it with a little hot sauce (several on hand to choose from) and it will make the kitchen sponge taste amazing. I also really like the sweet potato fries w/chicken strips dressed in Steve's special buffalo sauce. Steve's the only that can make that special sauce so be sure to ask if he's around. If Steve's not there get gravy on the side and dip your chicken strips in it; you'll feel like your in Texas... A new item added to the menu, or one I recently became aware of is the Chicken N Waffles. This normally comes with syrup but I like gravy w/Chicken N Waffles, and they're happy to oblige. The waffle is thinner than the traditional breakfast waffle, which I think is a great thing w/Chicken N Waffles. It's also not super sweet, again a good thing w/Chicken N Waffles. I do think they need to add three chicken strips over the normal 2 and for all I care ditch the eggs - only cuz I'm not an egg fan... I try and they always cook them to order, eggs just aren't my favorite. Let's talk drinks....no alcohol but endless amounts of brewed iced tea - if you've ever read any other reviews of mine you'll know fresh brewed is the only way to serve iced tea. Sodas come from a soda fountain and are free refills as well. They have it set up so that if your running low on your drink you can jump up and grab your refill if the restaurant is busy. Short on time, grab a breakfast burrito. Recommend the ham; comes with hash-browns, cheese and scrambled eggs inside. Oh and the salsa - ask for extra cuz it's that good! I seriously think Chips & Salsa need to be added to the menu. Ya, I know...I said I'm not an egg fan and then recommend a breakfast burrito. This thing is so big usually split it w/someone. One more thing we all like to know and I realize I often overlook mentioning; restrooms. Always clean at Steve's! If your in the area stop in and say hello to the crew and grab yourself something yummy to eat. read more

So, Steve's is a roadhouse cafe. It's outside Mariposa in CASE 49 South, so you're not exactly going to stumble upon it, but, very good food, and lots of it and great service. Breakfast is worth the trip any time, and if you're into salads, you've GOT to try their cob! You'll likely be glad you went. read more

We happened upon this out of the way place because we were staying in a rental house close by. We loved it! Alll 4 of us had some sort of burger and they were all excellent - large and juicy and cooked perfectly. Their side of onion rings were cooked perfectly too and the bacon in the burger was thick and tasty. We stood out because the place was full of locals - our waiter commented that we must not be from around there - and as a result they treated us extra special. The owner even sat with us for a few minutes to welcome us and tell us jokes. And they treated me to a very yummy cheesecake birthday surprise (much better than the yucky dried birthday cupcake I got at the very expensive Awahnee hotel). We had breakfast at Steve's Sportsman's Cafe today and the food was fine, price was right but the ambiance was very hostile and disgusting. Lots of signs advocating guns (not for hunting), one said "I carry a 357 three days a week, up to you to guess which days". Another sign gave ten reasons why a gun is better than a woman. (One reason was that at least a gun acts the same every day of the month) And another sign said if you don't like their gun mentality please leave, there's the door. And worst of all is their ongoing support for trump. It's Sept 2021, the election was last year and they still have a Trump in 2020 flag by the cash register. If you can eat the food and ignore the gnawing of disgust in the pit of your stomach then it's a fine place for a meal. If you don't want to support people who continue to support trump, then I'd recommend skipping this place. read more

Hadn't eaten there in about 1.5 years. It used to be great! Great food (rare around here) large portions, fair prices and good service. Now the food is mediocre, prices are almost double, you get 1/2 the amount of food (1/3 the fries), and experienced/ attentive waitresses are gone. The burgers used to be the best, they are definitely using a cheaper patty now. I brought the rock hard sandwich bread to waitresses' attention and I got 10% off of my bill (I wasn't looking for a discount). The bill was over $50 for lunch for 2 and a kids meal (sandwich, burger and kids frozen chicken tenders). I left the discount as a tip and won't be back. Business will definitely suffer. Had a hard time finding a spot because there was zero reception for me in the Mariposa area so when I saw this spot had good reviews during my short reception seconds, I raced over. Walked in and was greeted immediately by our server, Tracy. She welcomed us and joked with us from the moment we walked in. We had a good time laughing and talking with her. I had the burger and it was delicious! So good. Meat delicious, crunchy lettuce, fresh tomato, extra pickles = perfection. Fries were absoulty delicious too. Biscuit and gravy were amazing. Reception is rough so do yourself a favor and map yourself there before you get into town. Pricing was decent. I now see the reviews about all the gun memorabilia and animal stuff being offensive. Tried this place for the first time tonight for an early dinner. Wasn't sure what to expect after reading the review about the offensive signs, etc. We were pleasantly surprised. Our hostess and server we're delightful. The decor was homey and 'locally authentic'. A few deer heads and taxidermied animals. If that bothers you you might have a problem. Didn't bother us. We sat in the back room with the wall of local ranch brands. Very interesting. My husband ordered the steak salad and onion rings. I ordered a BLT with extra tomatoes and lettuce with sweet potato fries. Unfortunately what I got had meat on it (turkey and ham?) But that's okay. I was hoping for more mayo on it though. Sweet potato fries were great. Onion rings were fabulous! Husband enjoyed his steak salad. It was my birthday so we got the chocolate cake. Huge with 7 layers. It was tasty but maybe a day or two old. Overall we enjoyed Steve's and we plan to come back again to try their breakfast. read more

Total diamond in the rough. I stumbled upon this place while lost on my way out of Yosemite. Famished, I had no idea whether I would live or die this night. Found this place while stopping for gas. Folks, the meats are savory, the salads are fresh, and the breakfasts are like momma bear used to make. They have the best philly cheese steaks west of Philadelphia, and that's a lot of restaurants in between. The servers are wonderful too. The owners of this restaurant might be good, kind people and I have no desire to insult them. However, my wife and I had a breakfast there yesterday, and for an establishment that claims to welcome everyone, it was very unwelcoming to any person who isn't a right-wing Republican. It might as well been a Trump rally. We had to endure having Fox News on a big tv, all sorts of placards & signs about Trump and guns, etc. It was completely overboard. Talk about living in their own bubble. I strongly discourage any moderate person from eating there. I've never seen a business go so out of there way to make people uncomfortable. Food was ok but the owner needs to learn how to trar a coustamer. Weve spent around 200$ i n theee this week because its really the only place around. Well i went and orsered a whote pizza with artichoke and when I got back there was Anchovies and no artichoke on it so my girlfriend went back to exchange the pizza for the right pizza seeing as we cannot eat anchovies we don't do them at all and the owner basically will not basically he told her to take the pizza and to shove it up my ass before he said that though he called me to tell me I was a liar and that I said anchovies I didn't say until he's but even if I did what kind of customer service tell you you can tell a lady to take a pizza and shove it up somebody's ass first off and just because you made the pizza wrong man you decided to throw a big temper tantrum even if I said anchovies like I said even if I said it you are a horrible at customer service and need I would say contact my girlfriend on Facebook and apologize because that was out of line I'm the one that sent her up there and this was the owner I'm talking about Steve that was cooking and that said all this I just want to make that clear definitely would not recommend this place to anybody read more

Do not hesitate stopping by this cafe. It's just off the road and looks like a gas station, but the cafe has its own entrance. I loved the western feel and hospitality. The ice tea was brewed to perfection. The biscuits are fluffy and the gravy is served hot making the combo the best I've had in a while. read more

We went here this last Saturday morning with our friends on the day of our daughter's wedding. We almost missed it because it looked like part of the gas station and drove right by. But decided to trust our GPS and turned around and there it was! The food was good. Not as great as all the reviews boast of. But in the reviews they are gushing about a guy at the grill. I only saw a gal. So maybe it was the guy's day off? It was fine though. The minus one star was about the service. The friendliest it got there was when maybe the owner? Asked us how everything was. Our server was not the friendliest one on the block. She brought us our drinks one at a time. I finally re-filled my own water. My friend asked for more water and mine was sitting right next to hers just as empty and she never even noticed or cared.It was easier to just get my own. We were a party of six and I think that there was a party of two near us. It was definitely not busy. Everyone in our party noticed it. I felt as if I was being served by someone's teenage daughter that was being punished and forced to be as cordial as she could muster up. Not that she was a teenager or even that young, just from start to finish, it could have been a better experience with someone who pretended they were happy to be there. Note to whoever: The food can be amazing but if you feel you are inconveniencing the one bringing it to you, it ruins the taste. People like to feel welcomed. It is called Customer Service.
