    The pasta special
    Paige H.

I had an absolutely wonderful experience at The Mountain Room Restaurant. The service was truly exceptional from start to finish. Our waiter was phenomenal. Very attentive and friendly. What really stood out was that EVERY staff member we interacted with was just as kind and welcoming. It created such a warm and seamless experience that made the evening feel extra special. The ambiance is honestly unforgettable. Dining with a direct view of Yosemite Falls is something you just can't replicate anywhere else. Sitting there, enjoying a meal while staring out at such a breathtaking natural wonder, felt surreal. The food and drinks were just as impressive. The mocktails were refreshing and thoughtfully made, and the pasta special we shared was absolutely incredible. The combination of prosciutto, pistachio, and sauce worked so well together. It was rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced.

When in Yosemite ... The Mountain Room for a nice dining experience. Beautiful views from the dining room. Attentive service. We started with the focaccia and butter. Delish! Fresh baked and served with a flavored butter (citrus the night we were there). We then enjoyed starters of a classic French onion soup, crispy oyster mushrooms (think like fried calamari), and the soup of the day. The soup of the day was a silky smooth curry leek soup. The trout served with beets and fried rice was a big portion and very fresh. The rabbit pasta was also a huge portion. It arrived a bit cold but our server happily fixed this. He returned it to the kitchen and a new plate was brought out. It was perfect! Ended the meal with pumpkin cheesecake. A great place to get away from the chaos and enjoy a great meal.

We loved the ambiance so much that we ended up coming back on our second night during our stay in Yosemite. We stayed across the way at Yosemite Valley Lodge, which made it super convenient to dine here for dinner. The service was super friendly both nights, no complaints. On the first night, we ordered two vegetarian soups of the day, focaccia, and the pear salad. On the second night, we again ordered two vegetarian soups of the day, focaccia, and the crispy oyster mushrooms with aioli. The soups were really good, especially the creamy potato soup we had the first night. The second night's soup was a creamy vegan mushroom soup, which we did end up adding a little salt and black pepper to. I thought the pear salad was good, but the portion felt small for the price. The crispy oyster mushrooms were battered and fried (tempura style), well seasoned, and the aioli paired perfectly. However, these were a little greasy. We got a beer to share (Tioga Lager, amber) and we both really liked it. Great experience and would definitely come back on our next visit!

7 ounce prime sirloin steak, with Point Reyes blue cheese crumbles. Perfectly cooked, and delicious beefy flavor.

Another great meal at The Mountain Room! It was packed, but they still did a good job. Yosemite Lodge is not a very good hotel, but The Mountain Room provides a memorable experience. Be sure to make a reservation for a special dinner there if you visit Yosemite.

Let me preface this by saying my expectations for dining in the valley are usually pretty low- some spots are decent, some are okay, many are mediocre at best. This, however, was by far the best meal we've ever had in Yosemite (and honestly one of the best restaurant meals we've had in a long time anywhere). We'd happily return even if this place were located outside the park with multiple other options. TLDR: Hands down the best dining experience we've ever had in Yosemite. Amazing food, great wine, cozy ambiance, and phenomenal service (Erik, you're the best). Our group of four arrived after an all-day hike and we were the last reservation sat at 8:30 PM. I also want to note that we had a vegetarian in the group and there were plenty of menu options for everyone. Despite being the final seating, we never once felt rushed. Ambiance: Open, warm, and surprisingly cozy. Service: Our server, Erik, was incredible- so knowledgeable, genuine with his recommendations, hilarious to boot, and just a joy to spend a meal with. He truly went above and beyond and made the night feel special. Drinks: Great cocktail list and wine selection, with prices that were honestly more reasonable than what we're used to in Big Sur. We ordered a Chalone Vineyard Pinot Noir, which paired perfectly with everything we ordered. Food: Every single dish hit the mark (a rarity), the portions were beyond generous, and we got to share a plethora of items: -House-made focaccia with whipped tomato butter: warm, soft, seasoned, with the perfect outer crunch -Vegetarian coconut-tomato soup: not something I'd normally order, but fantastic none the less with big chunks of fresh tomato and perfect for dipping the focaccia in -Charred jumbo shrimp with white beans + tamarind sauce: this was a standout (we almost ordered a second) -Filet mignon with white sweet potato mash, yuzu chimichurri, and broccolini (cooked perfectly and incredibly balanced) -Prime sirloin with potatoes & veggies (also cooked flawlessly) -Mary's organic chicken with sweet potato, cranberry-kale-green apple slaw, and veggies (sooo juicy and delicious) -Trout with fried rice, lemon-herb browned butter, and a huge serving of root vegetables (outstanding- we all agreed this was some of the best trout we'd ever had) Sadly, we didn't have room for dessert, but everything on the menu sounded tempting (bread pudding, flourless chocolate cake, cheesecake, etc). The bill was about $300, which felt extremely fair for the amount of food, wine, and five-star service. Overall, this was an unforgettable meal and the perfect ending to a magical trip. Highly recommend making a reservation if you're looking for a special night out or want something beyond the usual pizza/burger/bar food typically found in the valley.

Such a cute place to have dinner. The lighting is dark and I liked it. The staff were quick and helpful. Checked in frequently to assess our needs. The food was tasty. Portions were good. I didn't get a picture of the avocado cheesecake but that was also good. Texture was a bit different but yet still very creamy.

Fried oyster mushrooms were the best dish of the night

I know better than to eat at these expensive restaurants in tourist locations, but our friend really wanted to go so that's what we did. The fried oyster mushroom appetizer was fantastic! I wish I would've stopped with that. The aïoli that came with it was delicious, I ate every bit on that plate, except for what I shared with my friends who also enjoyed it. Two of my girlfriends got the halibut dish which came out really beautifully plated. Unfortunately, the fish was way overcooked and dry. She also said that the rest of the items on the plate were bland. My fiancé and I split a Caesar salad with chicken on it and the trout dish. The Caesar salad was a joke. Romain was drenched in far too much dressing. The menu said it was supposed to have bonito flakes on it, but I did not see them or taste them. I also didn't notice any type of crouton. We asked to add tomatoes, but the restaurant didn't have any tomatoes. The chicken was cooked superbly though, it was a pleasant surprise! The other dish we had was the trout with pea purée and saffron rice. The menu did not mention that it is a steelhead trout, which I actually really like. But I think that could be offputting to some people because it has such a stronger flavor. Nothing really special about this dish though. Again, the fish was overcooked, and the rice and pea purée had very little flavor. Setting is kind of like an old steakhouse atmosphere. Like lots of dark wood and dimly lit. In the middle of Yosemite National Park I understand the appeal of eating at a nice spot, but for the cost, I would not return here.

We spent a few glorious days inside Yosemite Park, and there's no better place to spend it than the Yosemite Valley Lodge. One of the many reasons is the Mountain Room. We had two dinners there - we ate at the Ahwahnee Hotel in between those 2 meals. That was a disaster, which I explain in my review of the historic hotel. Both meals at the Mountain Room were very good as the foundation for both meals was the Filet Mignon. The beef is locally sourced, and was as tender and succulent as can be. My partner and I both like our steak medium, and have found even the finest restaurants can't 'get it right'. The Mountain Room cooked both steaks perfectly both nights! It had a wonderful grilled exterior with a rich, savory gravy. We also got the halibut, which, was underwhelming. Halibut is a mild, thick white fish, with a delicate taste - it needs 'something'. The halibut had no flavor - I recall having Parmesan Crusted Halibut at a beach restaurant near LA, that was a great piece of fish! No different than this piece, but flavored! We also had the Waygu burger with blue cheese. It was delicious - I'd never had a burger with blue cheese before, but it adds a whole new perspective to having a hamburger. I initially thought the sandwich would be overwhelmed by the strong cheese, but the Waygu stood its ground well. My partner liked the Crème Brûlée; she said the caramelized topping complimented the rich creamy custard. We were pleasantly surprised by the food at the Mountain Room, especially the Filet!

The staff and food were great! Came for Firefall V-day weekend. Reservations are a MUST! Steak was delicious paired with delicious veggies. Roasted cabbage was great too!

    Chocolate Torte
    Devin M.

Overall: 8.9/10 The burger was amazing I really enjoyed it. The blue cheese added great flavor, and the patty was juicy even without any sauce. The bacon was a great touch, and the patty itself was seasoned perfectly. I swapped the fries for a side salad, which was a nice balance. My only critique was that the top bun was a bit too charred for my liking. Overall: 9.5/10 for the burger. I ended the night with the chocolate torte. It was rich and not overly sweet super chocolatey, which I loved. It was a little cold, so I assume it was stored in the fridge, and the presentation could've been better. Still, it was solid. 7.7/10 for the dessert. Service was excellent the waiter was attentive, kept our waters filled, and even brought us complimentary bread. The ambiance was sophisticated and classy, making the whole experience feel special.

We reserved a table for a birthday dinner which we had to do in advance. What went well- The fried oyster mushrooms were the star of the night. We ordered it once and then two more times because it was that good. Hot, crispy, and fresh. The dessert, rose infused creme brulee with pistachio, was a hit too because of the way the flavors complemented each other. The vegan soup (quinoa and lentil), bruschetta, focaccia with basil mango chili butter, sauteed trout are also worth a mention Our server (pronounced as Shawn) was so polite and attentive. It was a delight to be at his table. They served a scoop of vanilla ice cream with a candle for the birthday! What could have gone better- Even with a reservation, there was a bit of a wait and we probably got our table after 30-40 mins of our original time. Something to take into consideration. We requested for a table with a view ie closer to the windows, but were seated in the middle of the restaurant The cauliflower Al pastor was under cooked (I'd say uncooked) and the side of fries were kinda burnt. We had to return the dishes and that's when we ordered the oyster mushrooms for the third time. The chicken with the linguine is quite bland and would do with more sauce, something that brings the dish together. It is overpriced so I probably would not return but if you are in Yosemite and have a special occasion, this would be an acceptable place to celebrate for that one night.

Other than having to wait for a table for 30 minutes, it was outstanding. Service was a little bit slow, but the food was fantastic. They substituted fillet for a sirloin--aw, too bad. The trout dish was very good although the pilaf was a little bit cold and the crème brûlée dessert. topped it all off. Best meal we've had in Yosemite so far.

Good food, ambience and service albeit a bit pricey. I liked the chicken although the sauce and mashed sweet potatoes were so sweet! It tasted delicious though. The parking lot is very dark so use your phone as a flashlight.

There really aren't many food options, so I'd probably recommend bringing microwave meals for dinner and using the microwave in the lobby area. For breakfast, they had lots of different options including pancakes; eggs, bacon, sausage combo; breakfast burritos; yogurt parfaits; and oatmeal. The breakfast burrito and egg and meat combos were the best options, and the yogurt parfait was as expected. I have been coming to Yosemite for nearly 40 years and have watched the evolution of the park, its dining, and especially the Ahwahnee. Years ago, the Sunday brunch was something people talked about across California. It felt abundant, elegant, and worth planning around. Even when dinner was never truly extraordinary, it was still consistently decent and the buffet was known for quality, variety, and presentation. This recent visit was deeply disappointing. We made a 12:30 p.m. brunch reservation during my birthday weekend because I could not get a dinner reservation. I already knew brunch had declined over the years, but I was honestly shocked by how sparse and tired everything looked. I am not looking for some Las Vegas-style buffet, but this felt scraggly overall. The buffet presentation felt pieced together, with small plates set over bins of ice in a tiny corner, rather than the thoughtful, generous spread this restaurant used to be known for. Much of the food looked like leftovers. Vegetables were not warm, several items were dry, the seafood selection was minimal, the salad options were limited, the fruit was underwhelming, and even the dessert display felt meager. There was an omelet station, bacon and sausage, mac and cheese, and a carving station, but overall the selection and quality did not come close to justifying the $69 price. What made this harder was that I had spoken highly of this brunch before, and my partner was also disappointed. I felt embarrassed for having hyped it up. The bright spot was the service. Evan, our busser, was excellent, polished, attentive, and exactly what you hope for in a fine dining setting. Simon, our server, was also kind and professional. I appreciated the birthday cupcake and thoughtful plate presentation. To be very clear, if it were not for the service, this would have been a one-star review, possibly even zero if that were an option. What makes this even more confusing is that we also had dinner at The Mountain Room during this trip, and the food there was overall delicious. So clearly, better execution is possible within the park. I do not know what is going on here specifically, but I genuinely hope management figures it out. I understand staffing and housing challenges in Yosemite. I also understand that operating here is not easy. But this is exactly why management needs to rethink the offering. I would much rather pay more for a brunch that feels intentional, fresh, and worthy of the setting than pay less for a meal that feels neglected. Right now, this brunch is not worth the reservation. This was the worst Sunday brunch I have had here, and that is difficult to say after nearly four decades of visits. The dining room remains beautiful, but the food no longer matches the space or the legacy. We left a good tip because our server and busser deserved it. Nothing else.

We sat at a table that used hanging doors as dividers, which we thought was a neat idea. The lighting was nice, not too bright but also not super dim. Our server told us about some specials and also recommended a few different meals. We took up her offer on fries and went with that. Even though it technically was a shareable, it was a huge serving! The fries were perfectly crunchy with a soft interior. The steak was also really juicy and tender, not too chewy at all. The sauces and cheese mixed in with the fries were also the perfect balance of salty, crunchy goodness. The salmon was deliciously soft and moist. Great and friendly service. The weather was nice, so we decided to sit in the patio. Luckily there wasn't a long line when we arrived. We ordered lattes, pastries, omelet, and breakfast sandwich at the counter. There's a section for you grab the condiments by the counter. The lattes and hot food are brought to the table when they are ready. Everything was delicious, but pastries were exceptional. There's plenty of parking available and a perfect place to enjoy brunch before the long drive. I definitely recommend this place! There's plenty of seating, indoors and outdoor. The weather was perfect, so we decided to sit outdoors where there was also a live jazz band. You order at the counter and then your food is brought out to you when ready. The line was pretty long when we went, and all of the menus were occupied. Luckily, their menu online is updated so we were still able to decide what we wanted before it was our turn to order. We ordered the turkey sandwich, banana pecan waffle, and freshly squeezed orange juice. Everything was delicious, but the waffle really stood out for me. There's also a section when you grab your own condiments indoors. There's plenty of parking available and the perfect place to enjoy a nice day outside. I definitely recommend this place!
